okay like. you are right. but i disagree that its the great tragedy of saiki k. because the entire show is ABOUT how saikis friends a) love him even without knowing much about him, and b) very much would love and accept the real him

because like. saikis quiet and unassuming facade is meant to both go unnoticed AND to drive people away. he doesnt WANT friends. and in the beginning, people like kaidou and teruhashi are just looking for connection with ANYONE- and saiki is such a blank slate they can just project what theyre looking for onto him without saiki ever reciprocating. like when we first learn that kaidou pretends that saiki also has powers? saikis kinda just like [whatever, he can play his game of pretend, im not involved in it]. this is why saiki says so often in the early chapters that they arent even really friends- because they arent. kaidou and teruhashi and yumehara and hairo each have a made up image of saiki in their heads that they one-sidedly interact with (i believe nendou is an exception to this. but we never really get into his head to know for sure). and the only part of that that saiki has a problem with is that he keeps getting dragged into things. he would rather they not interact with him at all.

but by the end of the show its clear that saikis friends DO know him. they at least know the version of him that he shows them. they know hes unfriendly and doesnt talk much and doesnt show much emotion. but they still like being around him and wanna hang out together, and it BAFFLES him! saiki is trying his hardest to be completely uninteresting and unlikeable and unbefriendable. hes perfectly happy to just continue the dynamic of one-sided delusion, where they dont really know him and are only attached to the idealized version of him in their heads. but they were concerned by his out of character behaviour at the wrong-birthday and when toritsuka was disguised as him. teruhashi wished he was there at the mixer. they know that hes closed off and reserved and theyre FINE with it.

and it all comes to a head during the finale, when saiki gets caught using his powers and tells his friends that he cant explain. and nendou says it doesnt matter, because theyre still friends no matter how much saiki is hiding from them. and even though saiki has seen over and over again that his friends wont be driven away by his antisocial tendencies, that they genuinely like spending time with him even if he doesnt participate, and even that they wont turn him away when they learn about his powers, it STILL doesnt really sink in. because saiki has spent his whole life resenting his own powers and thinking no one will ever accept him for who he is! that hes too different from normal people and only people who are Like Him could possibly understand. unlearning that doesnt happen overnight.

and yeah, by the end of the show, saiki still hasnt had the chance to properly confess to his friends. but it ends with him fully embracing his own powers BECAUSE of his friends! they are very explicitly the catalyst to him deciding to take care of the meteor in the final scene. saikis powers are no longer a burden to him because he knows his friends will accept him. thats the emotional arc of the show!! yeah, we dont get to see the scene where he finally opens up to them, but personally i dont think we need to see it for it to be a satisying conclusion to his arc

so i can definitely see why you might find it sad- i mean, it takes him the WHOLE SHOW to work up the courage to open up, and we dont even get to see it! so its totally understandable. but personally i dont really find it tragic? and its probably because growing up undiagnosed autistic is just kinda Like That- thinking that normal people will never accept you just kinda becomes the background noise of your life, and you learn not to open up to people. and yeah, objectively its pretty sad, i wont argue that, but i think the fact that saiki grows past that mindset and finds people who do authentically love him, even if they will never truly understand him, is distinctly Not Tragic. he learns how to accept himself through his friends!! he gets a happy ending!! and i just really love that. have i mentioned that this is like my favourite show ever

[its definitely also a shame that we dont get to see saiki interact with, say, teruhashi the same way he interacts with the psychickers. but thats what fanfic is for!]

anyway! obviously not invalidating anything you said, because you are very much correct. i just kinda see it through a different lense and thought i would share :)

How Saiki wants to be perceived:

Not at all. He's just generic mob character #7536, thanks.

How Saiki's friends perceive him at first:

Projection Central... Depending on the person, he's a scaredy-cat, romance novel protagonist, former punk, flustered fanboy, a slacker who just needs some inspiration to become a sports star, etc...

How Saiki's friends perceive him at the end of the series:

Quiet, a little glum, kinda boring, but a good guy. Says "good grief" a lot.

How the Psychickers perceive him:

Sarcastic, stubborn, tsundere, a little childish, back-talker supreme, confident, a bit arrogant even, incredibly intelligent, lonely, silly, uptight, a soft touch, kind.

How Saiki ACTUALLY IS:

Sarcastic, stubborn, tsundere, a little childish, back-talker supreme, confident, a bit arrogant even, incredibly intelligent, lonely, silly, uptight, a soft touch, kind.

-> Only the Psychickers (and to some extent, his family) know and appreciate Saiki for who he actually is by the end of the series.

That's because Saiki is only ever comfortable revealing his true personality once the other person knows about his powers.

Until then, he will always try pretending to be a passive nobody, unless he thinks it can get a girl off his back (ex. against Teruhashi at the arcade, against Imu in the locker room).

Saiki remains nervous about telling his friends about his powers despite seeing it go off without a hitch in the alternate universe, and despite losing his powers first, because his friends might not like his "new"/actual personality.

We see early on in Kuboyasu's introduction that Saiki fears his relationships with his friends are fake because they're based on a huge lie and an even bigger pretense. We see that anxiety about his personality/persona not being palatable enough at the wrong-day birthday party. We see him mourn the fact that he can't be his real self at the mixer.

THAT is the great tragedy of Saiki K, that almost none of the people he loves actually know him in any meaningful way, not even by the end of the series!

hello!!! i was wondering if i could get male matchups for haikyuu, mha and ohshc for your birthday event!!!

my pronouns are she/her, i go by zay and i’m an enfp and a gemini. my top kins are bokuto, sasha and gojo. i’m very loud, dramatic and i smile/laugh a lot(very happy go lucky type). i’m very quick to make new friends and i love hanging out with them(can not handle being alone for too long). i also tend to cry over the smallest things and am very sensitive about certain stuff (including but not restricted to my cat) i’m also impulsive, bold and i usually don’t regret the decisions i make. i always hug and cuddle people close to me(my love languages are physical touch and acts of service). an ideal date for me would be to an amusement park or even a movie night at home!! i would love both!!! i’ve also been told i’m a natural flirt and tease, even though i usually don’t know when i’m doing it?? i don’t really have a favourite anime but i tend to enjoy romcom anime(like ohshc, love is war, saiki k, wotakoi, horimiya) the most but that isn’t to say i don’t enjoy other genres too. besides that, i love cats, baking, playing volleyball and cricket, sleeping and sweet stuff. some things i’d like to do with my s/o is travelling, late night drives, singing dumb songs together and dancing at midnight!!! as for my appearance, i’m 5’4, curvy, tanned, have short wavy black hair with brown eyes and angular features. i also have a resting bitch face but thankfully i smile a lot so most people don’t really notice it! xD

Date story

Life can be tiring and though you normally wouldn’t go to bed early you did today. You fell asleep as soon as you got home from work, didn’t even get to text, call or see your sweet boyfriend.

Your sweet boyfriend Koshi got home later than you, walking into your shared bedroom seeing you asleep with your hair all over your face. He took a few pictures of your sleeping face, then decided that your sleeping form was tiring him out, so he joined you in the bed. He was the big spoon this time, but while you slept you turned over and wrapped your arms around him.

Because your body was unused to sleeping for so long and missing dinner. You got up and headed to the kitchen, still a little groggy, opening the fridge, it’s light blinding you. Not able to decide what to eat, you leave the fridge door to be able to see, going to grab a glass and fill it with water. When you turn back to the fridge you see your silver-haired boyfriend.

“Hey Zay bay “

His voice was still sleepy but his words were still the stupid rhyming nickname he promised to never stop calling you. You smiled while walking towards him, when reaching him he leaned down giving you a passionate kiss, taking the glass out of your hand and placing it on the counter. His hands returning to your body, wrapping around your waist.

The two of you swayed together with a little spin every once and a while. The two of you dancing and basking in the fridge light. You both started to hum, neither of you was sure what song it was, or if it was a known song. What you did know was that you loved this man and he loved you.

I think his anger and everything else could be balanced. He would make fun of most of the things you do but he loves what you do and that’s why

Once again I matched you based on how similar we are and I already thought of a dating story. It was between Kyoya and Hikaru and the final decider was that I wanted to give you an opposite instead of a similar match.

Date story

It took a lot of confidence and convincing but here you were on a first date with Kyoya. He did not want your first date to be at an amusement park, but the host club had gone on and on about the importance of a women’s happiness. And he couldn’t complain when he saw your smile, you were practically glowing.’

Halfway through the date, the two of you reached the carnival games section, and though you knew they were mostly rigid you still wanted to play. Kyoya followed you around while you played the games. He was also being a Debby downer about these carnival games.

“You know these are rigid right?”

“They’re just trying to get your money”

“The prizes cost less than the amount your paying to win.”

You knew who he was when you asked him out so you weren’t surprised by his rude comments. YOu moved on to the next game, and that’s when you saw a large stuffed animal that for some reason you need it. You played the game for nearly an hour, full of Kyoya’s rude comments.

You eventually gave up and moved on to more of the rides. Still, a little disappointed you didn’t win the large stuffed animal. Eventually, you got hungry and the two of you sat down and started to eat.

“I’m gonna go to the restroom, stay here.”

It was almost random when he said it, he got up and left, leaving you alone. You did as he said and stayed at the picnic table. You wonder what was taking him so long, you didn’t think he was the type to ditch someone on a date, so you just hoped that he was just lost.

Your wondering was put to an end when you saw him, now with an extra five pounds. The large stuffed animal that you spent an hour and an unreasonable amount of money trying to get. You were baffled. And got up and ran toward him. You were once again glowing making Kyoya realize why he spent so long trying to win the stupid animal for you.

“You just bought it didn’t you.”

You accused Kyoya even if you were happy to even have the large animal, you wanted to know if he bought it or won it.

“No, I won it, cause I knew you would rather have me win it than to bribe the man for it, cause that’s the kind of person you are.”

You beamed with joy and stood on your tippy-toes so that you could kiss him, he leans down a little and meets you in the middle for a romantic first kiss as a couple.

August Prompt - Tent

Finally, a prompt I had an idea for.

Day 7. Already a week of doing this. Lovely.

Anyways, it's a Saiki focused prompt cause the girls will just be planning Teruhashi birthday party. And that's boring. Also, how would I fit tent into that.

Anywhozit, let's jump in.

"Ku-chan, the doorbell's ringing and my hands are full. Can you get it?"

Saiki teleported just in front of the door and opened it. He had to resist the urge to slam it shut when he saw who was there.

'Nendo, Kaido, Kuboyasu. Why are you here?'

He knew why, not just because he could read their minds, but because of what they were carrying. Nendo was carrying three different tents and Kuboyasu and Kaido were carrying bags of camping supplies.

"Hey buddy! Runt wanted to go camping so I said we should invite you to. Do you wanna go?"

Saiki wanted to say no, but before he could, his mom had come up behind him.

"Oh, a camping trip! That sounds lovely. Ku-chan, you should go!"

Saiki had to resist the urge to glare at his mom. He knew she was going to force him to go no matter what, so there was no reason to try and argue.

'Fine. How long is it?'

"Uh, it's just tonight. I was thinking we could go to that place where Aren and I tried to build that treehouse since it's pretty open."

"Well that sounds just great. Ku, I'm going to grab the tent real quick. Grab what you need then go with your friends."

Saiki shut the door on his friends and teleported to his room; not happy with how this day was turning out. He grabbed the basic necessities and stuck them in a bag he found in his closet, then teleported back downstairs. He saw his mom trying to get the tent from the closet, so he levitated it out and grabbed it from the air.

"Alright Ku-chan, have fun with your friends! Don't come back early unless it's an emergency and, no, bugs don't count as an emergency."

Kurumi went to the door and opened it, gesturing for Saiki to go. He sighed and left his home, now in the company of a trio of doofuses for almost a day.

"We're here!"

Everyone placed their bags in a pile before carrying their tents to an open area. Nendo and Saiki both set up their tents with no trouble, but Kuboyasu was having trouble trying to help Kaido set up his tent.

"Shun, I think your tent is broken. Look, see, these supports are all bent at weird angles. I could ty to fix it, but it'd take too long."

"Shoot. What'll I sleep in now?"

'Just share with Kuboyasu. His tent's big enough.'

"That's...actually a good idea. I grabbed the larger tent in case something like this happened anyways."

Kuboyasu started setting up the tent he brought while Kaido packed up his tent. After a few more minutes, everyone had their tents set up.

"Alright, now, it's time to do stuff! I brought a fishing pole 'cause there's a pond nearby."

"But are we allowed to fish there, runt? I know some pond have laws and stuff for them."

"Oh. Good point; we probably aren't allowed to."

The four sat in a circle, trying to think of things to do. Well, at least Nendo, Kaido, and Kuboyasu were; Saiki was just sitting and listening to their thoughts.

"Well now that's it's dark, we can play hide-and-seek!"

Kaido was already heading to the bags to grab flashlights, which the other three were grateful for. The group had spent the last four hours playing various card games and there's only so much Uno you can play without trying to kill each other.

Kaido triumphantly held up four flashlights, each of which was given to someone in the group.

"Alright, rock-paper-scissors to see who's it. Loser's it!"

After the rock-paper-scissors matches, Nendo was declared the seeker. He went to the tents and started counting to 100. The other three scattered to hide. Kaido climbed a tree near the camp, Kuboyasu hid in a small alcove, and Saiki just went into his tent.

Nendo stopped counting at 60, bored of the numbers, so he started seeking. He checked Kuboyasu's tent but none of the others before he headed towards the forest. Kaido was found easily because he was shaking the tree so much, but Nendo had a bit of trouble getting him down.

Once Kaido was finally down, the two went off in search of Kuboyasu, only finding him because he turned on his flashlight because he thought he saw some wild animal. The group decided to head back to the campsite to plan how to find Saiki.

"I don't know where buddy could be. I didn't see him in the forest."

"Well obviously moron; we're playing hide and seek. Maybe he's in one of the tents."

"Good idea Shun, he never liked being in the forest because of all the bugs. Did you already check the tents Nendo?"

"Well I checked yours because it's the biggest, but none of the other."

"You didn't think to check Saiki's tent for Saiki?"

"Nope!"

Kaido groaned into his hands, then stood up from their circle around a makeshift campfire. He headed towards Saiki's tent and zipped it open, finding Saiki sitting inside reading.

"We found you Saiki. Come to the campfire, we need to eat."

Saiki set his book down and walked over to the campfire with the others. He looked through his bag and found a sandwich his mom packed...at some point. Shrugging it off, he opened the bag it was in and started eating. The others also had sandwiches, so they sat in silence as they all ate.

Kaido yawned loudly after finishing and curled into himself, obviously ready to sleep. Kuboyasu picked him up and carried him to the shared tent, before returning to the campfire.

"I think we should all go to sleep. Shun would be mad if we did stuff without him and I'm already pretty beat."

The other two nodded, ready to go to sleep as well. Saiki offered to put out the fire, so Nendo and Kuboyasu waved goodnight before heading to their tents. Saiki waited until they were inside and their tents were zipped before putting out the fire easily with his powers. He headed to his tent, ready to sleep and get this trip over with.

Everyone slept pretty peacefully, only occasionally waking up for bathroom breaks or things of the sort. When the sun eventually rose, everyone was well rested and ready to go home.

I think this is the longest one I've written so far. It was fun to write, but I think everyone's a bit OOC, however I tried my best.
