I am pretty new to this bjyx fandom and I came across this one post on twitter that spoke about how WY was rejected twice or thrice for lan wangji's role but insisted on going to the set or office? in person to try again ... And he did this after xiao zhan was confirmed as wei wuxian and the whole wechat id thing about DDU 2017 do you mind explaining a bit about this please ? Thanks

i feel that there is a lot of misconceptions with yibo’s audition for lwj. in the cql auditioning process, you had to send your profile and get accepted first, the producer actually rejected yibo’s profile twice because it seemed that he did not fit her image for lwj because of his idol look, but she never rejected him personally. so that’s why he had to fly in personally to audition in person and of course everything went well and he got the role !

now, i know that lwj’s role was actually the last one to be confirmed because the producer had a hard time finding the right actor for the role so i think he did audition after xiao zhan was confirmed to be wei wuxian but the thing i was surprised about is the fact that yibo wanted this role. for me, his career was pretty stable before cql and he actually ended up losing “fans” after announcing his role as lwj and the production company was also small and there was no guarantee that the drama would even air, i mean even c-listers did not want to participate which is why the cast were mostly new to the industry. this was a very risky move for him so i was always curious why he wanted the role (did he ever talk about why? if you know please tell me about it !!)

as for the ddu wechat thing; for those who don’t know, xiao zhan was previously a guest on ddu with his group (x-nine) in 2017. after this episode, yb wanted to add xz on wechat but was too shy to ask so dao laoshi ended up asking on behalf of yb. also, on ddu’s 9th anniversary, xz greeted them on weibo with a “happy birthday ddu!” to which ddu’s official account responded with “thank you handsome and attractive little zhan-zhan! (btw little day day won’t tell you that a colleague of ours already became your fan~).” this was all confirmed by the way, during an interview for cql they admitted that they did add each other on wechat but didn’t really text. when they were asked when they first met, yibo responded with “tiantian xiangshang (day day up)” so i’m convinced that meeting xz there definitely left a huge impression on him. there’s more about this here, if you’re interested in watching. anyway, this was literally one of the biggest moments for me like i doubt that the hosts often asks guests for their wechat... and it was a 9 person group and they only asked for xz’s wechat? it was an omg moment. i actually did not want to ship them after watching cql because i felt that i was just projecting my love for wangxian to yizhan but i started watching the bts and after reading about this and seeing yb with xiao zhan and yb with other people, i was sold. for me, yb definitely seemed most partial to xz despite having a reputation of being cold to co-stars. their relationship outside of the drama is super fascinating and it’s a joy to be able to witness their genuine bond in an industry that is literally built on being fake.
