You know thinking on it, there's probably a very real argument that if it wasn't for Dueling Network allowing a ton of people to play the game for free and fuck around, Yugioh might have fucking died during the accursed Wind-Up format huh. Like Wind-Up Handloop / Inzektor / Dino Rabbit format was very hated at the time, but Dueling Network really did provide a space where you could build and test and tinker and not just go to locals once a week to get your hand ripped with no tested countermeasures. Really, it was Dueling Network which turned into Dueling Book eventually and YGOPro/EDOPro which has probably kept this game going underneath the surface. I think if it wasn't for them, Yugioh had a fair chance of crumbling several times.

Maybe, ultimately, every card game needs something like this. A free, easy to access, easy to use, simulator that just allows them to fuck around before committing. I think player engagement and player retention are maybe the most important thing for a TCG, ever.

Not based on any study, but:

If you carry pepper spray, make sure it's in easy reach. No one who means you harm is going to wait for you to fiddle around in your purse. This may mean keeping it on a clip on your purse so it's hanging off the handle. If hiking, maybe it means getting a walking stick with string around the top and a handloop you can clip the spray to. Or even carrying it in your hand if you're in an area you feel unsafe.

Practice spraying it at least once. Go outside to a nice open area, and spray it. Away from you. Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly afterward. And I mean longer than you typically would. Many, many happy-birthday-songs long. I once accidently got it on my hands and even after I washed them once or twice, it still wasn't enough. I rubbed my eye, thinking I'd gotten it off. I hadn't.

If you ever need to use it, spray it at the attacker, then once you are sure you got them, run. Pepper spray is incredibly painful, but it doesn't paralyze a person. If you are in reach, then you're suddenly dealing with a much more angry and in pain attacker who still has use of their limbs.

As much as I would like to combine my interests and speculate what yugioh deck Clark Kent would play, I know deep in my soul that his ass is a magic the gathering player! Pete Ross got him into it back in smallville, he used a pure green monster mash deck just to learn the ropes before pivoting to izzet control. Smallville barely has running water, much less a card shop, so him and Pete just had to work with proxies & what they could pull from the rare pack Pete's dad would bring back from trips to the city. He used to attend locals when he first moved to Metropolis, but work and the kids keep him from playing regularly. Nowadays he mostly just runs the occasional commander pod with Lois Jimmy and Cat, but he has a modern deck that he has spent FAR too much money on over the years just in case a new hire at the planet happens to be a fellow sweat.

And we finally have Dragonmaids.

*Nasary can Special Summon a Level 4- Dragonmaid from your GY and can Special Summon a Level 7 Dragonmaid from your hand or GY at the start Battle Phase.

*It’s true form, Erde, can discard itself to do the same, and it also cannot be destroyed by card effects when you control a Fusion Monster. It can also handloop itself to Special Summon a Level 2 Dragonmaid.

*Laudry’s true form is Fluss, can return a monster in GY to your Deck by discarding itself. Its other effects are the same.

*Tillroo can search for a Dragonmaid monster in your Deck except itself, but you have to discard another Dragonmaid. It can Special Summon a Level 8 Dragonmaid.

*Its true form, Flamme, can discard itself to give a Dragonmaid 2000 ATK for one turn. Its other effects are the same, but it Special Summons a Level 3 Dragonmaid instead.

*Husky/Hauskee is their Fusion Boss Monster. It requires a Dragonmaid and a generic Dragon. It can Special Summon a Dragonmaid that is one Level higher or lower than the other Dragonmaid you control. It can also destroy a monster if you return a Dragon monster to hand. This effect is NOT once per turn, so you can abuse it maximum of five times.

*Dragonmaid Reception is their Continuous Spell. Monsters you control gain 100 ATK/DEF for every Dragonmaid you control. You can add a Dragonmaid card in your GY except this card and add it to your hand if you control 2+ Dragonmaids. If this card is sent to GY, all of your Dragonmaids cannot be targeted by card effects for the rest of the turn. So basically they become Z-ARC.

*Dragonmaid Changing is their Fusion Spell. It can bring itself back to your hand by returning a Dragonmaid you control to your hand, so combo this with Hauskee.

*Dragonmaid Relaxation is their Continuous Trap which can return a Dragonmaid to hand to search for a Dragonmaid card except itself. Or it can return a Spell/Trap card your opponent controls to hand. Very powerful stuff.

Yeah, this archetype turned out WAY better than I anticipated. They still have issues(they cannot Fuse from GY, they lack an exceptionally strong beater outside of Hauskee, etc.) but most of those issues should be ironed out in the future.

As a side note, Dragonmaids do not have DARK member nor do they a Dragon form for Hauskee. Latter is implied with Dragonmaid Changing, but considering each true form is 5 Levels higher than their humanoid forms, it would mean Hauskee would have to be Level 14, which is impossible outside of Rank 7, which is analogous to Level 14. So Xyz Dragon form maybe?

magic players intimidate me but yugioh players scare me. that game’s like sitting down for a high speed version of book club where the objective is to fully understand the assigned reading before the other guy beats you in one turn. madness.

Ah yes, my favorite things, handlooping (deep sea stuff, Moulinglacia), lingering floodgates (dweller), a gozen on legs, a once-banned-now-errata'd infinite combo tool (Brionac)? Zealantis is like the only cool thing here.

By contrast, Cyberse has an incredible diversity of designs, both visually and mechanically. They have Marincess, Salamangreat, G Golem, Code talkers, Mathmech, @Ignister, Topologics, plus a whole bunch of one-offs and minor archetypes.

The correct choice is clear.
