(This is a fanfiction for Haikyuu, Tendou is handicapped and uses a wheelchair to get around the school. He is able to walk and run but only for short period of time so he uses a wheel chair for most situations except for sports. I have this exact disability so yes this is real)
Tendou wasn’t himself today, he was quieter and seemed to be a little preoccupied but still focused. Tendou hoped no one would notice or question him, he was already on edge and anxious. He was in a lot of pain, he was having a bad day and his body was gonna make sure he knew it. He knew he was having a bad day when he woke up three hours before he usually did for school and couldn’t feel his legs. He couldn’t move on his own and practically dragged his body with only his upper body strength. By the time he had to get up for school it felt as if his entire lower body was on fire. He was sensitive and couldn’t even let his toes touch the carpet without shuddering, but. He had practice and he didn’t wanna miss it. Besides it was only a seven out of ten level pain he could get through it. He wanted to prove that he was a worthy teammate who didn’t flake out because of a bit of pain. Yeah it was only a bit, he could handle this, Satori had had much worse than this right? Well he had but he would come to regret not staying home.
Putting on his knee braces, then his ankle braces made it a little better. At least he could somewhat stand without the urge to crawl back into bed. He got ready for school even if it was a grueling task. His gym bag was packed and so was his bookbag, he hardly had the energy to eat, or make anything to eat so he just grabbed a protein shake and made his way to school.
It wasn’t a long way there but with his body feeling like it would give out on him, it felt as if it took ages to get to school. He had his gloves on which was good or else his fingers would be in just as much his lower body. HIs legs felt as if he had no control. He got to the gym and tried to act as if things were normal, trying to keep himself focused, stifling cries of pain. Each jump was agony, each turn and squat made him want to sob. Teeth clenched as he forced himself silent, not trusting his mouth to let out words. He knew that he was reaching his hard limits but he had school! And it was only an seven out of ten still maybe even an eight. He could do it right? He didn’t need to worry anyone over something he could handle right?
Classes went by, thankfully the elevator was working but his body wasn’t. He wanted to go back to bed and sleep this away, he wanted to be with Ushijima but. He always helped him, he always pushed the red head around if he got too tired to do it himself or get things for him if he couldn’t reach. Or push him to do better and better each practice. Ushijima was his boyfriend and his caregiver in multiple ways and Tendou loved and appreciated it but he felt bad sometimes. He felt as if he was being dependent on Ushijima. Using him for things, or not showing how capable he could be. Even on days he needed Ushijima the most he kept that to himself. Today was one of those days. If you asked him right now, on a scale of 1-10 how much pain was he in he’d say either 6-8.5. He didn’t like being vulnerable, vulnerable people are taken advantage of and he hated it, they were also looked down upon and he despised that.
Wakatoshi noticed his lover’s slightly strange behavior. He knew the other was always in pain but had never witnessed his bad days. Only his meh days, his good days, and his I can do it ones. His bad or horrible days were usually kept out of view from others and rarely happened at school. He felt for the red head, he was truly one of the strongest people he’d ever met. Heck Tendou never complained about the pain he was in even if it were to get bad he never once said “I can’t do this” or “its too much” or just quit. He’d watched the guest monster bruise up his body which he knew wasn’t gonna be good for him in the long run but. Knew this was his only place he felt free of his handicap. He knew this was where he could truly prove himself and feel like he could be a part of something. Wakatoshi commenced Tendou for his drive to become stronger though. He sometimes wished he weren’t so stubborn and would listen to his body more. Take breaks, stretch longer than the others, tell them when it was too much instead of putting himself through hell. He had a feeling that Tendou wasn’t doing so well, he noticed the small movements, twitches, jerks, and sounds he made. He noticed the fidgeting, the weakness, and sluggishness in his moves on the court which Tendou did a good job of covering up He didn’t know how much longer he could take, his body was starting to shake, he could hardly hold himself up. The pain would migrate from his knees and down, up to just his hips, then his back and then become a dominating feeling from his lower back to the tips of his toes. It made him very fidgety and scared, it was sudden and exhausting for him, he was feeling drained it his shoulders and arms were already sore from the practice the day before. It got the point that he couldn’t hold a pencil. He was in math class when he picked up his pencil with a shaky hand but he couldn’t hold it still enough to write then. Sharp pains ripped through him up his back, each breath pain interrupted his thoughts. He couldn’t breath if it brought him pain so he held his breath but. His involuntary apnea forced him to inhale which made him cry out as his entire body felt like it had been struck by lightning. This was noticed by Wakatoshi who was only a few feet away. He eyes him curiously then he sees his shaking become more and more visible that it frightened him. He got out of his seat and called Tendou's name. “Tendou! Tendou can you hear me?!” Tendou nods quietly, tears welling up in his eyes, the class’s attention is brought to them. Tendou couldn’t stop shaking, his body had tensed up and he wasn’t breathing in normal patterns, inhaling and holding his breath to minimize those lightning pains but they had him gasping which made him cry out. “Gagh!” His eyes rolled back and his body jerked forwards almost hitting his desk which Ushijima stopped just in time holding him up, the teacher asked. “Is everything alright over there?” Ushijima didn’t know how to answer “I think something’s wrong with him.” Was all he could reply, while looking worriedly at Tendou. Whimpering and gasping Tendou was crying as the teacher came over. “Oh goodness, Tendou kiddo, can you answer me?” Tendou could hardly move let alone answer “Lets get him to the nurse’s office, I don’t know what’s going on but maybe she can help?” Ushijima nods and grabs Tendou’s bookbag off of his chair then wheeling his boyfriend out of the classroom with the teacher following in toe. The nurse had no idea on what to do with Tendou but let him lay down in a cot she had. This saddened Ushijima to see Tendou like this but he was able to breathe by the time he was laying down. “Hey Ten, you okay...can you tell me what hurts?” “m-my legs k-kinda hurt” Tendou lied, he didn’t want to make Ushijima stay with him, the taller boy had much more important things to do than worry about him. Ushijima shook his head and he could tell Tendou was trying to be brave. “Ten I need you to be honest please.” But the crimson haired male just shook his head. “I’ll be back with my book bag, I’m gonna take you home.” Wakatoshi knew how much more comfortable Satori was in his own home so he knew this method would work better. Tendou was feeling small and when Wakatoshi asked him all of those questions he felt smaller, like a little kid. Which in some circumstances was good, Tendou was an age regressor and it allowed him to be vulnerable in front of people so this would help Wakatoshi assess Tendou better.
Blushing Tendou frantically tries to decline “N-no Ushijima, please you don’t have to.” He was stuttering and wincing that didn’t prove his protest to be valid at all. Ushijima gave Tendou a kiss on his forehead and said  “But I want to” then he headed back to his classroom, the teacher wrote out an excuse for the two by the time Ushijima had come back. Bookbag on his back, he helps Tendou into his wheelchair and puts Tendou’s bag on the back of his chair. “You ready Ten?” Ushijima asked, earning a quiet nod, so the taller teen wheeled him out of the nurse’s office and soon out of the school. Ushijima could tell Tendou didn’t feel good, he could see the pain in the way he tried to curl up in the chair or the way he bit his lip and clenched down his facial features. All he could do was remind him that it was gonna be okay. Arriving at Tendou’s place he pushed his boyfriend up his ramp and helped him inside. “How about we change into some comfier clothes okay?” Suggested Ushijima Tendou nods shyly knowing he is gonna have to be carried up the stairs. Each loving gesture the team captain made towards Tendou made him feel so close to slipping into little space but. He didn’t want to be a burden and put more responsibilities on him. Even if Ushijima had taken care of Tendou both in and out of little space, he still felt bad about it sometimes. “Arms up babe” He says so Tendou obeys, raising his arms up, Ushijima carrying Satori bridal style to his room. Setting him down on the bed, Ushijima went through Satori’s closet when he heard a soft voice. “u-um...Ushiji?” Ushijima turned to look at Satori who was playing with the hem of his school uniform shirt. “Yes?” “I-i feel little.” He started bashfully with a blush tinting his cheeks a light pink. Wakatoshi gave a small grin and nodded “Alright then, wanna put on your comfy lil boy clothes?” Tendou nods at this question so while going through Satori’s closet he found a sweater that was colored by the colors of the ocean zones. It ranged from the sunlight zone all the way down to the twilight zone that had lil sparks of whites, blues and greens to represent the bioluminescent creatures that lived down there. Then he found some light cream colored soft comfortable shorts. He then helps Tendou who tried to undress himself but it hurts so he lets his daddy do it for him. Once dressed, Wakatoshi adjusts the straps of the stabilizing braces Tendou wore around his ankles and knees. Wakatoshi changed out of his school clothes into a sweatshirt and jeans. He always had some spare clothes at Satori’s place in case he needed to stay with him last minute. Dressed, Ushijima went into Tendou’s box of lil space items, finding his book bag and extra things. He put the bag on the bed and gave Tendou his blanket just like the sweater it was all of the zones of the ocean. Going through his bag Tendou grabbed his blue paci as Ushijima grabbed the stuffies they got each other for their first date. Tendou had an orca and Ushijima had a Manatee. The taller teen crawled onto the bed and brought Tendou close to him. “Lil one, I need you to be honest, on a scale of 1-10 how much pain are you in?” Tendou had been a little distracted but he knew what he’d been feeling all day and couldn’t lie. “Ei-eight.” “Alright baby, good job being honestly. I’m sorry it hurts so much, I know i can’t really do much about it but I’m still here if you need anything.” Nodding quietly he gets comfortable with his lover.Ushijima knew he couldn’t put his baby boy to sleep but he could keep him as relaxed as possible but. He knew it would be hard knowing at any moment his pain levels could go from an eight to a ten.
So distracting him with his phone, letting the little watch videos for a while would help.It had been a while and Ushijima needed to charge his phone so he started to get up shifting Tendou off gently then he felt Tendou hold onto him. “Hm baby I’m not going anywhere just gonna plug my phone in. I’ll use your laptop so we can watch videos o-” Then he hears soft sniffling, he looks down to see Tendou in tears, his hands balled up clutching Ushijima’s shirt as he shook. “Sator?” A sudden gasp came and a whimper came out. Burying his face into Wakatoshi’s chest, Tendou cried out “Ten! Ten!” At first he had no clue why the regressor was saying ‘Ten’ like this until he felt him tense and let out a choked out gasp. Eyes filled with worry Ushijima sits up and gets off the bed holding Tendou but more in a toddler hold. “Shhh shhh it's okay baby, I know it hurts I’m sorry.” He quickly tries to sooth him but he knows it's useless. “What hurts is it your back?” Tendou shakes his head”M-my legs!” Wakatoshi begins to walk around the room holding Tendou while rubbing his back to try and sooth him. “I’m sorry baby boy, just hang in there.” Crying into Wakatoshi’s shoulder, Satori is shaking hard from the pain, scaring him by its suddenness. “S-so scarwy, pw-pwease make it stop daddy!”Pain like this always made Tendou’s anxiety spike especially as a little, he didn’t understand why he’d be in pain all of a sudden sometimes. Wakatoshi truly hated to see his baby in such pain, especially seeing as there was almost nothing he could do to make the pain stop. Massaging it doesn’t help, pain medication doesn’t help and it will take a while for it to work any way. “Deep breaths lil one, I know just try and take deep breaths for me please.” Satori tried to relax himself but the pain was getting worse, keeping his lower body paralyzed as if his muscles, bones and nerves were set on fire. “D-daddy it hurts so much, it hurts!” The crying boy exclaims as his cheeks flush and his knuckles turn white from how tightly he’s holding onto Wakatoshi who doesn't wince knowing this little sting is nothing compared to agony his baby boy is in. Standing beside Tendou’s bed he gives him small gingerly placed kisses on his neck and temple while his hands caress and rub in small soothing circles.
It's a while before Tendou calms down. The pain is dying down enough for Tendou’s grip to loosen up on Ushijima. He’s tired and still in pain but it's not as intense as the searing pain that ripped him apart. Ushijima sits back down on the bed sitting so Tendou is sitting in his lap. Ushijma grabbed Tendou’s stuffie and gives it back to him since he abandoned it as soon as the pain became too much. “You’re so brave, such a brave lil sea monster.” It was a nickname Ushijima gave Tendou which the redhead loved. “How bad is it now lil sea monster?”  He asked, Tendou thought about it then replied “eight” again “Alright, let me know if it gets worse again okay.” “o-okay daddy” “Remember Daddy doesn’t mind taking care of you because I know you need it. I know its draining for you to be all tough about it all day, especially on your bad days and I will be there for you. On your good, meh, and horrible days...even if you can’t move I’ll be there.. I won't leave you, I’m not embarrassed or ashamed. I love you with all my heart my lil sea monster.” His words had Tendou melting into the team captain’s strong frame that was warm and comforting. Fingers carding through scarlet locks pushing them down and out of his face to plant kisses there. Ushijima meant every word he said and Tendou knew it. “I love you too daddy”

Tumblr media
🌿 Hello! First post since the break baby! V glad to be back. Let’s start it off well, shall we?
-We all are brutally aware of the lack of representation in different fandoms and their writings- and while the Haikyuu fandom has been nothing but good to me personally, I thought making a mini series out of this could be a neat idea. The basic idea is take a hq character and write about the things they would do to help out/cheer up a significant other with a certain condition or disability.
- I marked each of the ones that personally affect me in my day to day life in case you’re interested.
- These are ways the hq characters HELP THEIR SO. This does not mean they treat them differently or lesser than others. Keep that in mind- scrubs.
- This by no means whatsoever fully encompasses what it’s like for any party involved to be in these romantic relationships- however, I do experience some of these conditions in my personal day to day and thought I did pretty well at writing those specifically. This does not mean I didn’t make mistakes in the rest, however. Please leave CONSTRUCTIVE AND NOT BLATANTLY RUDE CRITICISM if that’s the case. I did not intend to offend anybody, so keep that in mind.
Characters: Tendou Satori, Kita Shinsuke, Iwaizumi Hajime, Osamu Miya, Bokuto Koutaro, Hinata Shoyo, Tsukishima Kei, Sugawara Koushi, Suna Rintaro, Kuroo Tetsuro
Genre: Fluff/comfort
Warnings: mentions of blindness, deafness, eating issues, depression, anxiety, chronic migraines, wheelchair use, dyslexia, ADHD, and Insomnia. Established relationships.
Tumblr media
- Tendou Satori with a blind significant other consists of his constant singing/humming around the house, or turning random household objects into makeshift instruments to both entertain you, and so you always know where he’s at and therefore doesn’t frighten you with his sudden presence. He reads things to you, usually describing various things you come in contact with in your day to day life that may not be so friendly to the blind. Letting you touch his face or body in order to get a mental image of his features, doing your hair or makeup and even picking an outfit if you ever ask, holding your hand and guiding you when you’re out or if you request it. He tries his best to continue learning new things to help out where he can, and the thought goes a long way. Bb Tendou ily
- *Kita Shinsuke being more than happy to spend quiet time with his deaf significant other, enjoying the process of learning sign language in order to surprise you, and communicate with you. He’s very thankful his grandmother taught him some growing up. He adores leaving love letters on your nightstand to find at random, and his gentle loving touches in the morning bring you to the day unlike an alarm. He enjoys laying you on his chest so you can feel his heartbeat, and always ensures he approaches you from the front, leaving soft touches on your skin as he twirls you around in the kitchen in the late evenings of your days spent together, smiling wide at the happy grin plastered on your face. This man is incredibly smart, and he continues to surprise you with new sweet gestures every single day.
(This one hits extremely close to home, so I apologize if it’s longer than the rest.)
- *Iwaizumi Hajime with a wheelchair bound significant other consists of many things. Like him happily pushing around your chair for as long as you’d like if you use a manual, or holding your hand as you drive around in your electric chair, always remembering to plug it in at night to charge too. He regularly finds extremely wheelchair friendly places to explore or visit, restaurants without stairs and large enough bathrooms and tables to make you comfortable, or parks and entertainment spaces where you can enjoy yourself without needing to worry about different terrain or judgmental strangers. Him always pressing the handicap door button for you, since he agrees that it’s incredibly disrespectful when more able people kick the button with their dirty shoe for seemingly no reason. It’s his willingness to carry you around bridal style all day if you get uncomfortable sitting for so long, or to give you a massage when you’re sore. Him giving you alone time when you request it, (because for some reason people think it’s okay to crowd wheelchair users all the time?), and chewing people out when they think it’s alright to touch your chair without permission. He does so much more, but unfortunately this drabble is getting a bit long. Though I’ll definitely be writing about this more in the future..
- *Osamu Miya is always mindful of his significant others eating issues, offering up healthy meals with portion sizes that your body both needs and enjoys each day. Making sure to text you a reminder to drink enough water when he’s away or working, or bringing you a glass randomly throughout the day while you were busy with your studies or career. He seems to always keep snacks he knows you enjoy in his car and office at work, and he always offers encouraging, honest advice about your progress and just how proud he is of you. 10/10 bb Osamu
- *Bokuto Kotaro with a significant other who struggles with anxiety, and his constant never ending support and reassurance. His strong arms wrapping around you in a big hug when you ask for them, his uncharacteristic whispers, usually of encouragement or funny stories to make you laugh and bring forward that beautiful smile of yours. It’s how he took the time in the beginning of your relationship to really ingrain the signs of your oncoming anxiety attacks into his brain in order to remove you from those situations as seamlessly as possible in the future. It’s his seemingly endless “I found a new thing that could help, baby! Wanna try?” phrases. How he bought weighted blankets and bubble bath in your favorite scent, and tea in your favorite flavor- always keeping them stocked in the house. It’s how he calls Akaashi at times to ask about what he does to help his own anxiety, and how learning about yours transforms his treatment towards his family, friends, and even shy fans who admire the loud boisterous man, but are too scared to approach him for the same reasons. It’s when he crouches down next to a small child and gently holds their hand, quietly telling them that it’s okay to be anxious sometimes and not to worry. (I went off here- oops)
- *Hinata Shoyo always being helpful and loving when it comes to your depression. Encouraging you every day and reassuring you that you’re doing so well. It’s him bringing you glasses of water or snacks throughout the day to ensure you eat and drink enough, and offering to take bubble baths with you and wash your hair if you’d like, since it can be hard for some to motivate themselves to do that with depression. Him helping you with work or studies in order to take some of the load off of you, even with his busy schedule. It’s how he cuddles you at night, if you’re okay with it, and tells you how proud and happy he is to have you in his life. Him being a ball of sunshine that makes you smile everyday, and taking you on dates he knows will bring happiness to your day. (I will be writing more about this soon too!)
- Tsukishima Kei is always helpful when it comes to his significant others dyslexia. Offering to read things for you, or helping to keep track of small details when you request those of him. He’s always there to comfort you when you’re feeling insecure, and he not-so-secretly really enjoys when you ask him to help with your work or studies, even when they have to do strongly with numbers or extensive reading, he enjoys spending the time with you, it feels intimate to him. Similarly, calming you down or comforting you whenever/if ever you become overwhelmed, or reading a book you seemed really interested in to you at night before snuggling up in bed.
- *Sugawara Koushi and his mix of calm and chaotic nature that pairs well with his significant others ADHD. How he’s always helping keep track of ideas and such, or just generally being a good listener. He knows how frustrating it can be to forget something important. He’s always so down for spontaneous shit too. Wanna paint a room at 4am? Let’s go get the paint. Want to bake cookies and learn the basics of guitar while you wait for them to bake? He’s got one around here somewhere. It’s how he’s thankful he chose being a school teacher as a career path, because keeping you on track for work and school/leaving little reminders to do those things becomes second nature for him. As chaotic as he himself is, he’s always there to comfort you when you’re feeling insecure, and reminding you to take your medication if you take any. He enjoys taking you on walks to clear you mind, and often goes out to buy you notebooks and sticky note to write things down for whenever he isn’t there to help you out. Suga bb ily you’re doing great sweetie
- *Suna Rintaro and his significant other with insomnia, finding himself thanking his professional athlete training schedule that keeps his own sleep on track unlike in high school, so he can drag you to bed and hold you close to him whenever you’re struggling to sleep. It’s him learning of all the different things around the house he can do to help, like making sure all the screens in your home have a blue light filter, and ensuring any caffeine or sugar are tucked away into the kitchen cabinets to avoid temptation. It’s him running you a hot bath with lavender or vanilla, and giving you massages when you ask for them, buying fluffy blankets and comfy socks for you occasionally when he’s out. Him being willing to stay awake all night with you until you fall asleep, or taking you out for a late night/early morning walk to the park, and his gentle morning touches that first wake you everyday.
- *Kuroo Tetsuro always being mindful of his significant other with chronic migraines. It’s him turning off all the lights whenever he starts to notice your signs of one coming on, and making as little noise as he possibly can when maneuvering around the house while you’re attempting to sleep one away. It’s how when you wake up he’s giving you massages and bringing you medication with a glass of water, if you take any. How he’s always ready to run you hot baths, or showers if you’d prefer, and making sure to keep the house stocked up on scented/unscented products that won’t aggravate your headache more. It’s him ensuring you eat and drink enough, and bringing you caffeine in the early morning hours to help keep the pain away. Him quietly bringing you hot rags to place over your forehead, and putting blue light filters on all the devices in the house. If they get too bad, he’s driving you to the doctors when needed, or just generally comforting you. His own busy schedule helps in dragging you to bed to get enough rest, and he can’t say he doesn’t enjoy helping you with your work and/or studies- the nerd in him just can’t help it.

Aot!Haikyuu | MSBY Black Jackals x Reader (Atsumu Route)
✧  Summary: (Attack on Titan x Haikyuu) In an effort to unlock the secrets behind Titans, you got injured during one of Tendou’s Scout Regiment experiments. This was nothing new, but even you were surprised at how much those boys cared about you. ➳ Warnings: Language and Attack on Titan Canon Violence ➳ Tags: Reader x MSBY Black Jackals; Slight Reader x Schweiden Adlers; Takes place before the Fall of Trost; ➳  Masterlist
Pick your route!
Introduction  | Sakusa Kiyoomi  | Hinata Shoyou  | Bokuto Koutarou
✧ Atsumu Miya Route:
Sakusa and the rest of your squad-mates had visited you throughout your entire first week in the medic tent. Thankfully, you were told that you would be able to recover, luckily nothing was long-term damage, neither punctured nor permanently broken in your Titan encounter. Tendou told you that the weeks of physical therapy wouldn’t be easy, but you’d be back on the field within the year if you really tried.
Sakusa cursed you to your face for even thinking about it while the two sunshine's on your team told you not to rush your health.
You were worried most about what Atsumu would say.
He was always quick smiles and smirks - tended to tease and keep things light-hearted in order not to lose his sanity during the war. He flirted and had plenty of women over his shoulder, very easy to cause others to swoon over his handsome appearance. But that was all to drown out his worries, these shallow relationships filled the void from the death of his comrades.
No matter how hard you tried to reach Atsumu’s heart, it just would not budge. Not when you first joined the team and even now years later. There were small cracks here and there. Genuine smiles that he would indulge you in when your squad was in their off-hours. But otherwise, he kept people at an arm’s length.
You knew that this was Atsumu’s second team in the Scout Regiment, originally an officer under the infamous Squad Leader Kita. There were lots of rumors around his earlier life, how he and his brother were one of the best duo’s in the entire regiment. Along with Kita, they were all childhood friends, entering the training corps together and later the scouts as a trio. There were lots of stories around that squad and how they courageously acted during expeditions.
Such as when Kita boldly laid down his life at the Fall of Shiganshina, detonating a large bomb for dozens of Garrison troops to get away.
He saved over two-hundred soldiers from the clutches of abnormal Titans, suddenly let in by both the armored and colossal Titan. The stories were second and even third-hand by now, but it was all generally the same. Soldiers scrambling with their unknown enemy, paralyzed with the fear that their lives were about to end then and there.
Both civilians and soldiers alike had minimal chances of surviving that day.
Shinsuke Kita was a bold soldier through and through.
But all of that occurred before you even joined the scouts. You knew of the current effects on your teammate, now. Atsumu had closed himself off while his brother left the military entirely, opening an onigiri shop within Wall Sina. You could not blame him, your lifestyle must have been a constant reminder for what Osamu had lost. But for Atsumu to continue in the Scouts, you wondered how he had the mental fortitude to continue when his childhood best friend was taken from him.
And so it was no surprise that Atsumu hadn’t visited you your entire first week in the hospital, keeping you at a distance since he had almost lost you as well. But after another week passed you wondered if you did something else to annoy the two-toned man.
Him and Sakusa did not hold back their scalding words the first day you woke-up. And even during the mission, Atsumu had quick curses each time something unexpected happened. So why was he avoiding you now if he was there the first day? Was he trying to reinstate the distance in your friendship? You were disappointed, but by no means surprised.
However, one night three weeks into your hospital stay, as they lowered the doses of painkillers circulating in your system, you woke up to see a figure sitting silently beside you.
You called out to the familiar shadow, “Atsumu?”
It was quiet for a good minute, before he answered. “Ah, it’s me.”
“What are you doing here?”
“Just visiting’.”
“Do you usually visit when I’m asleep?”
“.... Ah.”
So Atsumu visited you when he knew you would not be conscious.
You felt your annoyance flare.
“You’re such a coward.” You bit out.
He stood at your words, his own anger rolling off his tongue. “Ya want to say that again?”
“Yes, I do!” You tried to sit-up, but felt pain shoot through your lower half. Out of relex, his arms shot out toward you to steady you, but you swatted them away and continued, “You can’t face me when I’m awake so you’d rather watch a silent corpse.”
“Don’t call yourself that.” Atsumu bit out, the stoic expression on his face enough to make you recoil in surprise.
You snapped yourself back, “And why not?! There’s obviously something else you have to say if you’re being such a dick about this.”
“You are so fucking unbelievable.” Atsumu muttered as he carded a hand through his blond hair, “I can’t believe I almost lost ya and you’re sitting here acting like life is just gonna move on.”
“Isn’t it?”
“No. It isn’t.” Atsumu stated clearly, “You’ll get out of this bed, one day, and you will never be able to fight the same again. Your leg is fucked, ya know that right?”
“Tendou said I’ll be able to walk again.”
“And that should mean everything will go back to normal, right?” Atsumu stood straight, his height twice your own as you sat in the raised cot. “You tryin’ to tell me that the next time ya see a Titan, you won’t be worried it’ll steal ya like a personal doll again? Or better yet, that you won’t rely on your right leg now that your other side has been shot to shit?”
“I - it’ll take time.” You stuttered, not liking how his words struck a bitter chord.
It took years of training in the cadet corps for anyone to get adept to balancing themselves on the 3DMG. It took even more actual live experience to get used to fighting while doing so. And here you were with a new handicap, years into the battle with all your own personal idiocincinrecies. It would be harder, but you had pushed off that factoid to the recess of your mind, more focused on your current recovery.
“No, ya weren’t thinking at all.” Atsumu stated.
But you didn’t need this asshole pointing out your new weakness.
“What’s your problem?” You asked back sharply.
“My problem? My problem is that I have such a selfish teammate that she doesn’t even care about the rest of her team!”
You turned your head in genuine confusion, “What?”
“I can’t fuckin’ stand ya sometimes!” He said instead, “Even if you can fight again, if it was up to me I’d never let your ass leave your office. I don’t give a fuck, I’ll ask Sakusa to switch ya to Tendou’s team if we have to.”
“What?!”
He leaned over your bedside and gripped your chin harshly. “You almost died. Do ya understand that? I was the last person to see ya before you disappeared into the trees.”
Now closer to his face, it was more than just his anger and annoyance that was reflecting back to you. It made you physically recoil, surprised at seeing the usually distant Atsumu shout his worries about you.
“You were willing to give everythin’ up for some stupid shit-show about a single Titan!” His pressure behind his hold increased, almost bruising the skin there.
“I.. I’m sorry.” You felt yourself apologize more than realized. This was more than just another argument, from the brutal shake of his shoulders and how Atsumu tucked his head into your shoulder. He was leaning into your body, not fully, but enough for you to feel the tenseness in his body.
Atsumu was worried about you.
It made you want to reach out to him. To curl your hands around his middle and comfort him that you were still here - still alive. And so you did - bringing a gentle touch up his back before it started to hurt from the strain. Instead, you folded your arms behind his neck, holding him for as long as Atsumu needed to assure himself that you were okay. And while it seemed redundant initially, you had to remind yourself that Atsumu had lots of demons that were still alive, but worse off because of it.
“Fuck.” You felt him murmur against the skin of your neck. “Please, I am begging ya. Do not pull that shit again.”
You trailed the hands “I’ll try not to.”
He leaned back to look at you directly in the eyes, “That’s not good enough.”
You felt a small smile crack your expression, “I promise I’ll try to stay safe.”
“Good enough for now.” Atsumu said as he frowned, before leaning forward. You felt the soft crease of his lips against your skin, lingering on your forehead before he trailed his nose down against yours.
“Atsumu?”
“Do ya understand now?” He asked, the two of you basically sharing the same breath at this point. Atsumu brought a hand up to your cheek, gently caressing as he went and tucking a loose strand of hair behind your ear. You hung onto every bit of his actions, from the way his eyes pierced your own to the way he drew lazy circles on your skin.
“I can’t lose you too.” Atsumu continued, breathing out harshly into your shared space. “I went through this shit before and it almost killed me. But if I lost you? Fuck, I can’t…”
You brought a hand up to cup his face, your heart leaping out at you to be there for him. He was more than just another Scout soldier, more than just your fellow squad-mate and now even more than just your friend.
“I won’t let it happen again.” You reassured him, moving to place soft pecks to his cheeks as he silently cried out his worries.
This was a side of Atsumu you never got to see before. His usually coarse words were more than just shallow-deep, expressing his genuine care over your person. And while you always crave a deep relationship with the older soldier, he always kept you at an arm's-length. At least now you knew why - because Atsumu was afraid to lose those close to him again.
“I love you, ya know that right?” Atsumu murmured.
“I know that now.” You teased, but he gently poked your forehead to bring you back to his serious statement.
“You’re so stupidly headstrong.” Atsumu started listing off as he placed pecks on the side of your head, “Joining our squad was like a breath of fresh air I didn’t know I needed. So smart and yet you value yourself so little.”
You just listened to his words, surprised that he was so keenly paying attention to you in the past when it seemed like Atsumu was so carefree.
“I’m not expecting ya to answer, by the way.” Atsumu continued, “I just need ya to know that before ya make any choices.”
You smiled at him, thankful for how uncharacteristically patient he was being with you. Instead, you scooted over in the hospital bed and patted down in the empty space.
“Keep me company tonight?”
He gave you a genuine smile, pulling off to take off his jacket and throw it over his shoulder to the chair. Atsumu laid on the side, trying to take up as minimal space as possible as he threw an arm across to rest your head on.
“I’ll never leave you alone again.”
You pulled his face toward you, trying to seal a kiss but struggling as you both kept grinning. His arms trailed up and around your body, pulling you close to feel every plain of skin against his own. You relished in the love Atsumu could give you, grateful for how much of his heart he was willing to give you after having been hurt so many times.
You would treat his heart warmly and give him so much love in kind.

Chapter Twenty Two
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝗯𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿
TENDOU'S P.O.V.
"Guys it's been like a week, Y/N is fine staying at home alone," I groan as my friends begin badgering me once again about Y/N.
"That's not the point," Semi says to me, "How do you know she won't leave?"
"Come on, you guys know she wouldn't leave. Besides, I even gave her the opportunity before and she didn't take it."
"Are you stupid?" Ushijima bluntly asks, "Why would you let her leave?"
"Didn't you hear me?" I groan, "I just said that Y/N wouldn't leave."
"How did you know that?"
"Did you forget what people call him, the Guess Monster?" Shirabu laughs, "Besides, Tendou's completely head over heels in love with Y/N and it's so obvious!"
"U-Uh hey, I-"
During your moment of hesitation, Reon cuts in.
"That's right. You saw how he acted last week. He's willing to put himself on the line for her. Probably why he wants to stay with her twenty-four seven."
"Guys..." I weakly try to interject but end up sitting down on the couch in defeat.
"Well if you ask me, it seems like Tendou just doesn't want her to become more of a burden than she already is."
"What the fuck did you say?" I now get my confidence back.
"I'm saying that you babysit her all of the time and she's like your handicap," he shrugs almost as if he doesn't understand what he's saying.
As I make my way over to Ushijima, ready to punch him in the face, someone grabs onto my hand.
"Look," Semi says as he shakes his head, "Ushijima isn't one hundred percent wrong. You do have to watch out of Y/N, but there's more than that."
I finally begin to relax, hearing the others hum and murmur in agreement.
"I agree!" Goshiki stands with pride, "Y/N's smart and she can take care of herself!"
I turn back to Ushijima, sending him a triumphant smile as I get out of Semi's grasp.
"They're right," I admit, "besides I like Y/N and it's not my fault."
Ushijima's face scrunches up in disapproval. Trying to lighten his temper, I place my hand on his shoulder and tell him that he'll warm up to Y/N eventually. However, this probably wasn't the best move considering that he immediately throws my hand away from him.
"Can we just talk about what we came here for?" Ushijima growls while not breaking eye contact with me.
I nod and back away from him, taking my seat beside Goshiki.
"Right," I begin, "So we've got to figure out what we're going to do with that cop. He's obviously not going to let up anytime soon."
"But we've got nothing on him," Reon shrugs.
I look over at Shirabu and Semi, hoping one of them may have something.
"Sorry," Shirabu says as Semi shakes his head, "I've got nothing."
"Semi, is there any way you can look into the records?" I ask him, "We know his name is Daichi."
Semi shrugs, "Guess it's worth trying."
You walk over to Semi as he opens his laptop and begins typing things in at a crazy fast pace. Your eyes widen as a picture of the detective comes up.
"That's him!" I point to the screen when I see Daichi's face.
Semi nods and clicks on the image.
"Daichi Sawamura," Semi announces to the group as he continues scrolling on his laptop, "Looks like he's always lived in Miyagi... can't find anything on a family for him though."
Goshiki sighs deflatedly. I look over at him, knowing that he's worried for Y/N's sake.
"Hey Bowl Cut, concerned for Y/N aren't ya?" I tease.
"W-What? No! That guy's a-after all of us! I'm concerned for-"
"Ah don't worry about it," I tease as I walk over and mess up his hair, "Y/N's gonna be fine. It's like you said, she's smart and can take care of herself."
Goshiki nods and stares down at his lap as the rest of us continue talking.
"Alright well," I say as I stand up, "I'm gonna head home. I'll have a chat with Y/N and make sure she doesn't know anything else about the detective. If I do, I'll let you know."
As I make my way over to the door, I hear my name be called from behind me.
"C-Can I tag along?"
I turn around and see Goshiki worriedly staring at me. The others look at me, holding their laughter back, waiting for me to reject the poor kid.
"Let's go," I wave him over.
Goshiki beams and runs over to me.
"Isn't two babysitters unnecessary for one girl?"
I shoot the smartass commentator a glare before walking out of the house with Goshiki in tow.
Tumblr media
"Now remember," I say to Goshiki as we near my house, "no hitting on my girl."
"Tendou can you please stop saying that," Goshiki pleads.
I can see the tint of red on his face as he looks away in embarrassment.
"Yeah, whatever," I laugh, "I trust you."
The two of us enter the house and look around for Y/N. When we don't see any movement we both call out to her. Still no response.
"Over here," Goshiki whispers.
When I walk towards the couch Goshiki is by, I find Y/N asleep on the couch.
Why is she so beautiful?
I kneel down beside the couch and plant a soft kiss on the cheek. However, to my dismay, Y/N starts waking up.
Immediately she flashes her pretty smile over towards Goshiki beside me.
Seriously? She's going to acknowledge him first?
"Y/NNNN," I whine, "Aren't you excited to see me, too?"
"Sorry Satori," she apologizes, "Of course I am. It's just that I don't get to see Goshiki as much so I was surprised to see him here."
I roll my eyes. Even though she's obviously telling the truth, I hate that he's getting the attention.
"U-Uh anyway Y/N, we're here to talk to you about what happened last week."

for the sleepover saturday: what are your thoughts on the hq time skip in general? :)
asdhfkjsdf thanks for this ask!! the answer got a bit long and obviously contains lots of spoilers for anime-only fans, so it’s under the cut!
General
Tbh, I think the whole timeline is a little confusing because of all the back and forth skips and flashbacks. I had to read it a second time and pay close attention to really figure it out, but I think I got it now.. So in 2015 the Karasuno 3rd years graduate from high school, Kageyama goes straight to V.League, Hinata prepares one year for Rio and actually goes abroad early 2016, meeting Oikawa there. Oikawa graduated 2013 and has been in Argentina ever since. In August 2016 Kageyama took part in the Rio Olympics, meaning he was in Rio too for a couple of weeks. The story is partly told from Yachi’s perpective in 2017. And then we skip to November 2018 for the Adlers vs. BJs game.
I really love all the knew hairstyles!!! They. all. look. so. good. My favourites are probably Kageyama and Miya Atsumu (I know that was to be expected, I admit haha). In general, they look all so grown up now asdhjaksfd and I really like that canonically they’re finally all older lol. When I got into Haikyuu I was fresh out of high school and only 17, so I could at least still kind of relate, but considering it’s already been 6 years for me and that i’m 23 now.... that was one of the reasons why I was less and less into it. Now that they’re pretty much my age, it feels better again haha
And I love that we saw (almost) everyone again and got to know what they pursued after high school! Besides all the ones who went pro (I love that Hyakuzawa acutally made it!!) I think i love Kenma’s future the most (Osamu’s is close second though). It’s funny and it’s suiting him so well!! And I’m really happy he and Hinata stayed friends! Where the fuck is Iwaizumi though????? And Tendou?????? And Kuroo??????? I NEED TO KNOW!!!
And I think Washijo and his wife are really cute, and I’m happy that he’s rooting for Hinata and that Hinata was able to show him that height does’t necessarily is a handicap.
I like that everyone who was friends in high school is shown to meet again or at least still be in touch now and then. It’s probably the most unrealistic thing ever because people don’t stay that well in touch after graduating and doing entirely different things in different cities etc., but it’s fan pleasing and I’m extremely thankful that we got that!!
And I love that everyone has kept their main traits (like for example Bokuto still being silly, Ushijima still being stoic, Sakusa still being a germaphobe and so on), but that they all grew up and got character development at the same time. Once again, everything is really well-written and I love all the new information and backstories we’re getting asdhjkasfjk
Also I love both the Adlers and the BJs! Very interesting teams with interesting players. I love the dynamic of the BJs, Atsumu somehow being the “team mom” and having to deal with all the others cracks me up so much and in general it’s hilarious to see them interact!! Also so! many! rivalries! Atsumu and Kageyama, Hinata and Kageyama, Hinata and Hoshiumi, Sakusa and Ushijima...
I like the twist that Karausno lost and never won an inter high. Of course I was sad to see them lose, but it just makes so much sense from the writer’s point of view, you know what I mean? It wouldn’t have been realistic for them to just win, especially not the first time. And it wouldn’t have made any sense to let them lose and then introduce new first years next year and start all over again, that would’ve been really anticlimactic. And like that we got to see everyone’s futures and get to see them play on an even bigger stage and most importantly, Haikyuu was always going to end with Hinata playing vs. Kageyama again, and the way it happened is pretty well written in my opinion. I still don’t entirely like that it made this turn, I really wasn’t prepared for it to end so soon, but it’s brilliant.
In in general, thinking about how Haikyuu is going to end extremely soon is breaking my heart. I do hope that after the Adlers vs. BJs game something else is still going to happen, but I kind of doubt it. I mean, it’s not going to be immediately over the moment the third set is over, but you I doubt there’ll be another game. Also Hinata probably has to win for this to make sense. Ahhh, I just really don’t want it to end!!! :(
I think the fact that he went to Rio to play beach volleyball suits him really well, and it was an extremely interesting plot twist! I loved how Hinata made friends with his new roommate, that was really cute, and of course, Hinata and Oikawa’s selfie!!! Such a piece of art haha. And as I already explained in another post, there are signs that Oikawa might actually be the one who texted it to Kageyama which makes this even funnier. And I totally loved how Kageyama showed the picture to Ushijima, the way he just grabbed his arm as if it was the most normal thing in the world. I’d love to think that they’ve kind of become friends by now since they’ve probably already been on the same team for quite a while.
Tanaka and Kiyoko got married!!!! I absolutely didn’t expect any relationship to become canon at all, so I was really surprised. I already liked that one scene when she let him carry her bag before the time skip and now this!!!! So cute, I like it
Kageyama and Ushijima giving autographs!!!! Just!!!!!
Kageyama
I never doubted that he’d become a pro and that he’d make the national team, but actually seeing it become canon really, really makes me happy! I’m so proud of him! He looks so happy! And he gets closure, if that makes sense? In high school Ushijima told him that he wouldn’t have been welcome at Shiratorizawa because his setting isn’t good enough for him, and now he’s setting for him! And he gets to play against Hinata on eye-level on such a huge stage, that’s pretty much what this whole story was aiming at from the beginning and we’re finally seeing it happen! And the whole king of the court metaphor, the one thing that scared him so much now being something he can be proud of, amazing. And not to forget his his weird curry commercial, it made me laugh so hard adhjkasflk
Also Kageyama is one of the two main characters and we had to wait 387 chapters for him to actually get a family and a full backstory like wtf??? I mean, his parents still don’t have names or faces, but at least we now know they exist and we got to know his sister (he has as sister ahsdasdjklaf) and his grandfather. I really, really loved that chapter. So many feels. I think it was told really well. And baby tobio is just so. damn. cute!
But it also really broke my heart.. parents that aren’t home much, a sister who is so much older she apparently moved out by the time he started high school, his grandfather (who he seemed to be closest to) died some time before he started high school, and to top it all off, it still looks a lot like he really didn’t have any friends and was mocked and all he really had was volleyball..
Also I love that it’s confirmed that Kageyama grew up with volleyball and had someone in the family who taught him. That’s always been one of my headcanons (and I know it’s been like this for a lot of other people too)
And Kageyama’s grandfather said so many nice and smart things. I love that Kageyama told him about Oikawa and that he was the one who told him they were rivals now. I love that he taught Kageyama to always take care of his nails and stuff like that. I love that he encouraged Kageyama to always be his best and not hold back and that he told him that people who are even more amazing will find him if he continues. I also love how he reacted when Kageyama’s sister said she was going to quit volleyball.
And I love the panel where Kageyama remembers that his grandfather told him that amazing people will find him and all the important players that are currently in the Adlers vs. BJs game are next to it AND OIKAWA, who isn’t even currently around (or is he??). Oikawa pretty much was the first amazing person that found him after all, I’m so glad that was aknowledged!
Oikawa
So he apparently went to Argentina very shortly after his high school graduation, so sometime in 2013. Right now in canon we already have November 2018. That means, if Oikawa really hasn’t come back to Japan in the meantime (we last saw him early 2016 when he met Hinata in Rio), he’s already abroad for more than five years!! That’s such a long time!
I’m not entirely sure I like that he went abroad tbh. I mean, it’s cool, it suits him, but if that means we’re not gonna see him again.... It was nice to see him again in Rio with Hinata, but I’d much rather see him play and interact again with lots of the others. I really want him to play against Ushijima and Kageyama again and also against Iwaizumi! I love that we got to see Oikawa happy and confident and all, and that definitely is some form of closure, but not the same kind of closure the other characters are currently getting.
But I absolutely adore that the person giving Oikawa advice all the way back somewhere in chapter 146 was in fact José Blanco. What a twist. Beautifully done. I already loved that scene so much, now it means even more to me. And an absolutely valid explanation for why he’d do something crazy like go to Argentina right after high school, so once again, extremely well-written!
Maybe it’s just wishful thinking, but I still have a little bit of hope left. The fact that he says to Hinata that he shouldn’t forget that he’s going to beat everyone and that the stage he’s going to play at hasn’t changed could be seen as some sort of foreshadowing. And of course also that Iwaizumi, who we haven’t seen again yet, declared that he will defeat Oikawa in the future. And that Oikawa said to Kageyama that it’s only one loss and one victory each, they stll have a score to settle. And that Oikawa never managed to defeat Ushijima. However, with the whole series aiming at Kageyama vs. Hinata, I sort of doubt there’ll be another match after Adlers vs. BJs, it unfortunately just doesn’t make much sense from the writer’s perspective... but we’ll see. I’ll continue to hope until the manga officially ends.
Miya Atsumu + Miya Osamu
So Atsumu apparently made the national team too! I would really, really, really love to see him and Kageyama play together ashdjasdjkf. But I’m also really, really happy that they’re playing against each other currently and that the sparks are still flying.
Also I just love the Miya twins so so sooooo much. And I love how their relationship turned out, especially considering that Osamu didn’t really trust Atsumu and was annoyed by him most of the time. Knowing that they’d go separate ways after high school could’ve meant two things, either they grow apart or their relationship gets better because they get more space and because they get to be more individual and pursue what makes them happy.
And I really love how happy they are with what they chose and how happy they are for each other! Osamu cheering Atsumu on and Atsumu being interested in the food Osamu makes. I don’t think we’ve ever seenOsamu watch a game before and actually look happy and excited. I love that they still hang out and talk and support each other.
