Sa Mata ni Sidapa
ni Justin Minoru Leachon Luna
24-Aug-15
ng paglalakbay na animo ay tahing lilip;
nauupos na kandila patungo sa limot;
isang ikot mula umpisa hanggang mawala,
simula pagsibol n'ya, hanggang mamukadkad s'ya,

Rise of the First - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Sidapa and Libulan
Sidapa was used to death, but that doesn’t mean he liked it. He felt the sadness by the people, felt the regrets of the dead and the unfulfilled wishes of the mortals that died too young and too early.
He looked up at the night sky and was enamored by the beautiful moon and its ethereal moonlight. Sidapa felt a calming smile come upon his face. When he closed his eyes, he can almost feel a soft hand brush against his cheek but when he opened them again, he saw no one and only heard a soft giggling that struck his heart above him. Sidapa’s face grew red and shook his head and finished preparing the dead for the burial ritual.
He did not notice the moon glowing brighter ever so slightly.
Up above the skies, Haliya was shaking her head at her little brother’s antics.
“Bulan! Do not tease the poor man! Have you not seen the devastation he is witnessing because of that witch Bakunawa?”
Libulan, ceased his giggling and pouted, feeling a twinge of guilt.
“I am sorry dear sister, I did not mean to tease”
Haliya sighed and stroked Libulan’s cheek. “Dear brother, you are young, you must learn compassion for other people. Their feelings are important”
Libulan leaned against her hand and kissed it, “I am not that young! I’m only a couple hundred years younger than you! But…Yes, my sister, I shall be more compassionate and loving” He looked up at her sister and frowned at the golden mask that adorned her face. “Sister? Why must you cover your face? You are the moonlight! Beautiful and ethereal, surely your people will give you more offerings if you take it off”
Hilaya smiled underneath her mask and took it off slightly, only showing a side of her face. Libulan suddenly felt a wave of calm and love.
“Brother, beauty is not important. One must also have strength to face the harshness of the world and that is what I give my worshippers. Strength to pursue on what they believe in, never relying on one thing that can fade away with time”
Hilaya placed the mask back on her face and straightened up. “Come, our dear sister, Hanan, told me about this wonderful lake that is secluded from the mortals. We can wash ourselves there”
Libulan blinked and shook his head, shaking away the magic that was brought upon seeing the beauty.
“Oh! Wonderful, I was feeling a bit dirty” Libulan grinned and floated down to earth with Hilaya
- - -
Sidapa finally finished with the bodies, he thanked the mortals for their help and he disappeared into the shadows for a small break before returning to his mountain.
He found a small covered spot near a waterfall and he sat down behind a boulder to relax and listen to the water fall to the lake and watch the water stream down into the sea.
Suddenly, he hears a twinkling sound come from above and a sudden splash jolted his eyes open. He unsheathed his machete and crept slowly beside the boulder, ready for any attack but what he saw made him drop his weapon for what he was the most beautiful sight he was honoured to see.
Hilaya and Libulan, emerging from the lake, the water dripping from their bodies like crystals shining underneath the moonlight.
Sidapa was awestruck, everything felt like it was in slow motion but he was even more so when he heard the moon god laugh, the same giggle he heard back then. He smiled, letting out a sigh as he watched them. And so, it became like this for many nights. Sidapa would sneak from his mountain and watch, slowly falling in love with the moon god. He made his presence known multiple times in the forms of the flowers he grew. The perfumes so sweet smelling that it reached the heavens for Libulan. He played melodies of his love and sang them to the moon and stars.
All the while, Libulan was in awe at how bold this god is. He accepted the flowers and made a hybrid called, moon lilies. He hummed along with the tune of the love songs and when they finally met, it was at the same spot where Sidapa felt his love for the boy-god flourish.
Hilaya was looking on at her little brother and was happy with their love, when Hanan, the goddess of the Dawn and Evening stars appeared, looking frazzled.
“Sister! Libulan is in danger! As I was rising to bring in the new dawn, I heard Bakunawa planning to do something terrible to him! Oh, sister what do we do?” Hanan was wringing her hands and twisting her bracelets worriedly as Hilaya donned her mask and sword, The Kampilan.
No one dared cross paths with an enraged Hilaya, the goddess masked warrior. No one threatens to hurt their family and lives to tell the tale.
Hilaya raced down to earth.
- - -
Bakunawa was enraged. Being abandoned by the mortals because of the many accidental deaths due to her flooding, made her heart turn black and cold. It made her feel unloved and unwanted but when she saw Libulan bathe in her lake, she too fell in love with the god.
It wasn’t fair! He bathed in her waters, felt his comeliness and charm and now he doesn’t even notice her? Sidapa wasn’t the only person to make gifts for the fair Libulan. Bakunawa made the secluded lake shine to match his moonlit beauty, made the fish that Libulan played with sparkle a multitude of colours to keep him entertained and warned the savage mermaids to play gently with the moon god but did Libulan notice? Of course, he didn’t, he was too busy with Sidapa! It wasn’t fair! Sidapa has the advantage of being high up in the mountains and be closer to the moon while Bakunawa was stuck down in the sea.
If she can’t have Libulan then Sidapa can’t have him either!
With this in thought, Bakunawa emerged from her underwater cave and swam up, her body slowly turning into that of a monster

Also the the text is in filipino so here
Bathala - aka: Abba (Almighty Father)
Idianali - Abba's helper, married to Dumangan
Dian Masalanta - TLC(Tender love and care) incarnation, was punished to become mortal for loving a mortal, was actually thankful for the punishment
Anitun Tabu - highest ranking deity, was ranked down due to being boastful
Libulan - my gei boi, his suitor, the god of death, aka. Sidapa said that it doesn't matter of he's a guy.
Sidapa - the one behind Libulan, has huge crush on Libulan.
Dumangan - God of harvest, doesn't have much with personality, married to Idianali
Amihan - part of the three original deities, first would be Bathala, next is Aman Sinaya, then Amihan, in a folktale, Amihan tricked Bathala and Aman Sinaya into fighting so that land could be formed around the endless sea and that is how Philippines was formed(folk tale)
Aman Sinaya - Big dick energy, always bitching about Bathala
Apolaki - many stories suggest he's a demi-god so his origins is unknown
Tala - direct translation to Filipino would be 'stars'
Mayari - Apolaki's sibling, goddess of moon
Hanan - goddes of the morning
I, a Filipino is so enamored with other mythologies, then recently I found out about my own country’s mythology, because during elementary school we were only taught about Bathala, (coz he’s usually the one featured in most folktales in my country lol)
Also I’m very suprised that our mythology had a patron god of homosexuality
This aren’t the only deities, there’s a lot more but not mucb info is available
Not mine btw. The sauce for the images is missing when I found them so fuck

Spent most of Labor Day weekend dressing up my catgirl, Hanan. I made her near the end of EW (along with her sisters, Tala and Mayari) when I was going through some pretty bad burnout.
I'm still figuring out who she is and a lot of her personality. Seeing as I don't have a canon WoL yet (both Yrja and Kotone are non-wols and are featured in my friend's wolverse) she might fill in that spot as I go through msq. We'll see!
in the meantime, gaze upon her cuteness.

Rise of the First - Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Bathala, Ulilang Kaluluwa and Bakunawa
A long time ago, when time was of no importance, there were two gods in the world. Bathala, the all-mighty, Ulilang Kaluluwa, meaning the orphaned spirit, a god who prefers to be in the form of a winged serpent who lives in the clouds. The two gods do not know each other.
Bathala was feeling lonely in the centuries of his solitude. He started to create his people, mortals that would wander the land and live amongst the evergreen that already existed. Animals that would protect them from the elements and the sun to keep them warm during the day and the moon to light the night. Bathala thought that he would need help in protecting the life that he has created so he created multiple deities as well.
The main ones are:
Hanan, the goddess of the Dawn and the Evening Stars
Haliya, the masked goddess of strength and moonlight. She and her brother, Libulan, is said to be the most beautiful moon deities.
Libulan, the boy-god, protector of the moon; He was said to be so beautiful that he can tame the vicious mermaids, Magindaras, to submission
Sidapa, the god of life and death, for where there is life there must be death to form balance. He resides on a mountain, where the gateway for the underworld is located
And with them, Bathala no longer felt alone in the cold universe.
Ulilang Kaluluwa, upon learning of Bathala’s existence and at what he had done, grew angry. How dare this ingrate create life without his permission? Was He not important enough to have his input? He can create life as well! He, the powerful Ulilang Kaluluwa, ruler of the skies and clouds, The One who creates frightening storms and hurricanes.
To prove his point, he created Bakunawa, a beautiful and powerful witch and made her the goddess of the sea.
But Bathala did not notice. The All-mighty was too busy basking in his happiness, playing with his children and granting his people blessings when they give offerings to his altar.
Ulilang grew angrier, and challenged Bathala to a fight of strength. The one who wins gets to rule the universe.
After three days and three nights, Bathala emerged victorious. Ulilang Kalululwa was slain. Bakunawa saddened by her father’s death, asked Bathala to give her the body so that she may turn him into rain clouds. At least then her father can contribute the life that the all-mighty created.
Bathala agreed, saying that it fits Ulilang’s personality perfectly. He wanted to create life and so he shall by spreading life-giving water to thirsty evergreens and help the flowers bloom.
And so, it was done.
When the night fell, the sea grew dark and menacing. Bakunawa was in turmoil of her father’s demise. The mortals were in danger of being swept away, to protect themselves they hid in caves high above the ground but not before the causalities.
- - -
Sidapa came above from the Underworld and collected the souls for proper burials.
Many suns and moons have passed and Bakunawa has calmed down enough for the mortals to come back to their land.
The people saddened by the death of so many of their brethren grew disdain for the sea goddess and turned away from her. They helped Sidapa in collecting the bodies and burning as per their ritual to give their earthen bodies back to Bathala.
