~ Don't Forget Me. ~ Marshall Lee
Tumblr media
Summary: Marshall Lee gets a call from his mom, so you go with him to the Nightosphere. Hana Abadeer's hatred of mortals might run deeper than the both of you think.
Content/TW: Verbal abuse, implied threats, stabbing, murder, blood, grief
It started as a normal day, lounging in Marshal Lee’s cabin in the damp cave you had come to love. You and Marshal were sitting on the floor of the living room as he writes his new sign when he gets a call.
“I’ll be right back,” he tells you as he turns and walks to the kitchen. You can hear whispered arguing for a few minutes until you hear a beep and he walks back to you. “It was my mom, she’s whining about how I don’t come visit her anymore so I have to head to the Nightosphere for a bit. You can stay here or head home and I’ll come over when I get back,” he sighs out in disappointment.
“Why don’t I come with you? You never talk about your mom and I’d like to meet her!” you exclaimed cheerfully with hope glimmering in your eyes. Lucky for you, Marshall is a sucker for your puppy dog eyes.
“Okay fine, but do not say anything. I mean anything. My mom can be extremely dangerous and she doesn’t take kindly to mortals.” “Aye aye, captain,” you nodded as you saluted at him. He rolled his eyes and opened a portal to the nightosphere.
As you stepped through, he held out his hand to steady you and you walked hand in hand to his mother’s castle. Making your way to the front door, she greeted Marshall as he walked in. “Marshall, sweetie! I’ve missed you so much, you’re finally visiting your dear old mother. Have you finally decided to take your place as the heir?” She interrogated as she bounced in place after almost strangling him in a hug.
Wow, she seems so excited to see her son out of love, totally not for business reasons, you thought bitterly after recalling the things Marshall had told you.
Hana then leaned around her son to stare at you coldly. "Who is this mortal you've brought to me, dear?" Marshall looked between the two of you nervously before responding, "This is (Y/N) , my partner. (Y/N), this is my mother, Hana Abadeer." "It's nice to meet you ma'am," you held out your hand, attempting to be polite.
She stared at your hand before looking down her nose at you and addressing Marshall, "Interesting. Why you chose a mortal," she spat the word mortal bitterly as she glanced at you icily, "I will never understand." Marshall looked a little panicked and attempted to break the tension. "Alright! Mom, you wanted me to come visit, is there something you wanted to talk about?"
She snapped her gaze away and instantly brightened. "Oh yes that's right! Why don't we go to my office and discuss some matters I've been meaning to talk over with you?"
They turned to go to her office before Marshall turned back to you. "Hey, you can go ahead and head to our room. Third door on your right after you turn left down that hallway," he pointed in the direction of a rather dark hallway across the room.
~~~
After finding your way to the bedroom you and Marshall would be sharing for the night, you decided to go hunt for the kitchen. As you made your way through the living room where you'd left Marshall and Hana, you heard their voices drifting from Hana's office.
Eavesdropping is wrong, but a little bit wouldn't hurt anyone, right? You tried to reason with yourself as you snuck closer to the door. Leaning your ear against the wood, you felt yourself freeze.
"Why in the Nightosphere would you choose a mortal? A MORTAL, Marshall! You'll never be able to run the Nightosphere with a weakling who wouldn't even be able to take care of herself here! She doesn't belong here Marshall. She doesn't belong with you. Get rid of her so you can fulfill your destiny as the heir, or I will."
At that you felt your blood run cold. Get rid of me? Do I want to find out what she meant by 'I will'? Before you could listen to Marshall's response, you backed away from the door and sprinted back to your room, fueled by fear.
~~~
Hours had passed and you hadn't moved from where you lay curled in a ball on the bed squeezing a pillow for comfort. You didn't move or even react when Marshall came in and attempted to talk to you, trying to see if you were awake. He had already showered and was currently laying on the other side, asleep.
He had started actually sleeping on the bed after you began sharing a bed. Normally you two would cuddle as you fell asleep, however given your position that wasn't an option tonight. You couldn't fall asleep, fear had kept you awake and kept your brain racing. You were everlastingly curious as to what exactly she meant by her last sentence, as well as how Marshall reacted to his mother's cold words.
Your fear wouldn't let you stay for his answer, but you knew he defended you. You knew him better than anyone, you knew how much he loved you, so you were assured that he wouldn't let his mother's words slide.
You figured a glass of ice water might help settle your nerves, as ice water usually helped you calm down when you were feeling especially high strung. Marshall knew you were prone to getting up throughout the night, whether it be water or to go to the bathroom, so he's adjusted enough to sleep through it.
You padded quietly through the castle towards the kitchen, taking deep breaths as you poured ice and water into a glass and took a sip. You stood there as you drank, staring out the window that overlooked a part of the Nightosphere.
Your nerves finally calmed and your brain stopped racing by the time you finished your glass and you were about to turn to put the dish in the sink when you felt something cold and sharp prod your lower back. You froze like a deer in headlights and adrenaline flooded your system.
"You'll never be fit for my son. Consider this a favor to him, as you'll just hold him back," you heard Hana whisper into your left ear before you felt a pitchfork breach the skin of your back, sinking through until it broke through your stomach.
You screamed in agony, which alarmed a certain overprotective vampire king who knew your scream anywhere. He sped into the kitchen to see you sunk to the ground, a pitchfork stabbed through your abdomen with Hana standing behind you, looking satisfied with her action.
"What did you do?!" he screamed at his mother before rushing to your side. Blood had begun to run out of your mouth and down your neck and chest as you made eye contact with him. Tears of pain were falling down your cheeks, but you couldn't feel nor control them.
Marshall was breathing heavily, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to pour out of his eyes. "Hey, hey, look at me, it'll be okay, we'll get you back to Aaa and get you to Doctor Prince-" You cut him off by putting your hand to his cheek. Both of you knew it was too late to do anything, but Marshall was too stubborn to let you go.
Trying to keep the pitchfork in place as to not cause more bleeding, he pulled you into his lap and held onto you as you started breathing more deeply. It was time, you knew it was, but seeing Marshall like this broke your heart.
You looked into his eyes and held his face as you whispered, "I love you, Marshall, so much. Just don't forget me," You spoke as you began wheezing instead of breathing. He just looked back into your eyes and said "I love you too. Watch over me, will you?" He laughed before letting out a sad chuckle. You softly giggled with the last air in your lungs before your eyes glossed over and you fell limp.
Marshall just hugged your body to him and sobbed, grief overtaking him. Hana began to speak, almost offended and confused as to why he was so upset. "Oh come on, Marshall, it's not like you truly cared about her. She wouldn't have been around forever, this was for the best really, now you can focus on work without that little distraction-"
Marshall cut her off and began screaming at her, asking her what was wrong with her. He screamed at her until his lungs and throat burned, and he scooped your body up. He opened a portal to Aaa and stepped through before turning back to his mom.
"You are dead to me. Do not ever contact me ever again. You can consider yourself childless, as I am no longer your son. I hope you burn." He said, ice evident in his tone before the portal closed, leaving Hana to stare at the spot where the portal closed, confused, shocked, and surprised to find herself hurting from Marshall's words.
~~~
Fiona and Cake entered the cave, heading to Marshall's door. They had heard about the incident after Marshall got back, all of their friends joining together to bury their lost friend and having a makeshift funeral, in mourning.
The duo had not heard from Marshall since, which had been roughly 10 months. Fiona knocked on the door, calling Marshall's name. "We're here to check on you, honey, it's been almost ten months and no one has heard from you. We're worried about you," Cake called through the door softly.
Fiona turned the knob, surprised to find it unlocked. They walked through the downstairs area without luck, before heading up the ladder to Marshall's room. They found him sitting at the foot of the bed, staring at a photo album, full of pictures of the two of you.
Ever since your death, Marshall has thanked you for your love of scrapbooking, as he had multiple scrapbooks full of all of your memories together, spanning over the five years you two dated. He was looking through the first one, reminiscing the beginning of your relationship before he looked up to find Fiona and Cake.
They sat on either side of him, Cake putting a paw on his shoulder. "Hey bud, we were wondering how you've been doing so we wanted to check on you. Everyone's been thinking about you," Fiona spoke softly as he stared at her before looking back at the album in his hands.
"I'm fine, you guys don't have to check on me. Tell everyone I'm fine. It's not like I can grieve myself to death anyways," he spoke with resignation and grief in his tone. Fiona and Cake made eye contact over his back, wondering whether they should leave him be or not.
Ultimately, they decided to leave, knowing he wasn't in the mood for talking. Hearing the door shut behind them, he appreciated that they cared enough to check on him, but he couldn't find it in himself to care too much. He hadn't really cared about anything. The only thing he kept doing was writing songs, singing, and playing his guitar. Remembering how much you loved it was what kept him going, however he mostly wrote songs about you now.
You watched over him, just as he had asked, and while you loved that he never went a second without thinking about you, it hurt to watch him grieve himself into isolation. You knew all he needed was time, and he had all the time in the world, but it saddened you to watch him turn into an empty shell without you. If only you hadn't insisted on going with him to meet his mom.
A/N: I love Marshall Lee to death, however this was a plot I didn't feel fit anyone else. I will definitely write more for him in the future, and no it won't be as angsty, you'll actually live next time. Personally, while it is short, I do love this one a lot, I feel pretty decent about it but I'd love to hear how you felt about it.
