Family: Hiroshi Sakura (father), Sumire Sakura (mother), Sakiko Sakura (older sister), Tomozo Sakura (grandfather), Kotake Sakura (grandmother), grandparents on Mom’s side, uncle, aunt, and younger cousins

Likes: Candy, salad crackers, cartoons, comics, drawing, her grandpa spoiling her, cute clothes, playing with her friends, eating at fancy restaurants, playing Othello, having money, going to fun places, sleeping.

Dislikes: Her mom scolding her, her dad teasing her, her sister getting gifts when she doesn’t get any, Maruo being annoying, Hanawa showing off, waking up early in the morning.

Personality

Maruko is an energetic, playful child who often causes trouble at home. Despite being energetic sometimes, Maruko can be very lazy and loves to sleep...which often makes her mother angry. Maruko also has a tendency to throw tantrums at home from time to time...especially if she really wants something or wants to go somewhere nice. Despite this, she is not always selfish or lazy. When Maruko is determined to learn something, she works hard and is willing to try and practice for weeks. For example: Maruko practiced playing the recorder for several days for a test.

Maruko greatly loves her family, and cares a lot about her friends. She tries to get her parents to spoil her more or go with her to various places, like festivals or convinces them to take her with them when they go out. For example: She was able to get her father to take her fishing with him, and wanted to get a nosebleed so her mother would spoil and pay attention to her. Her grandfather often takes her out and spoils her, which she loves. Maruko finds many of her classmates troublesome, like Maruo and Migiwa. Nevertheless, she is willing to hang out or help them (even though she sometimes has no choice), but does get along with many of her classmates. 

Maruko is a bit of a tomboy, and doesn’t really think about falling in love or dating. Despite this, she does like wearing dresses and cute things, and does fantasize about meeting a prince and being a princess. 

Maruko doesn’t like that her family is a bit poor and stingy with money, because there are things that she wants and places that she wants to go to...but they are a bit expensive. She does manage to save up her allowance from time to time. 

Family

Hiroshi Sakura (father): Maruko’s dad loves to tease her when he gets the chance. He is a very relaxed person, and is often seen at home drinking, smoking, watching tv or reading the newspaper. It’s unknown if he has a job, but he most likely does have a job since he and his family do have money and are not dirt poor. Whenever Maruko wants her dad to go somewhere with her, he tries to come up with an excuse why he can’t...though he can be tricked into going out with her. Hiroshi really does love Maruko, and actually does enjoy spending time with her, he’s just a bit shy when in large crowds. Maruko gets her relaxed and teasing personality from him. 

Sumire Sakura (mother): Maruko and her mom often fight and argue with each other, due to Maruko’s laziness and her mother’s stinginess. Her mother often scolds her for sleeping in and getting poor grades, though sometimes Maruko is able to point out her mother’s own flaws. Despite the hostilities, they truly do love and care about each other. Sumire wants what’s best for Maruko, and Maruko wants her mother to spoil her from time to time...though she does fear her mother’s anger. Her mother is often at home cleaning or cooking, but she does relax with her family everyday. Maruko gets her stubbornness and temper from her mother. 

Sakiko Sakura (older sister): Sakiko is three years older than Maruko. Sakiko is more mature than Maruko, gets better grades, and does not whine or complain when being forced to do things like study or chores. The two sisters often argue and butt heads with each other, especially when Maruko doesn’t study. Despite Sakiko being more mature, she does become excited when going on field trips. Sakiko also has a stereotypical, teenage love for male idols, which Maruko finds strange and troublesome. The two sisters do love and spend time with each other. For example: Maruko wasn’t able to give a chocolate heart to any boy on Valentine’s Day, so she gave it to Sakiko and the two shared it. 

Tomozo Sakura: Tomozo is Maruko’s grandfather who often spoils her. Maruko tends to take advantage of her grandfather’s doting nature, but does love him greatly. He often takes Maruko out to festivals or other events when her parents can’t, and feels sad if Maruko does not want to spend time with him. 

Kotake Sakura: Kotake is Maruko’s grandmother. She does not spoil Maruko as much as her husband does, but she does love her greatly. Maruko is often given strange advice by her grandmother, like moldy bread is good for your health if you pick the mold out, or that snakes will come if you whistle. Her prized possession is a photo album that she made with Maruko.

Other Relatives: Maruko has other relatives. She has an aunt, uncle and cousins from her father’s side, and grandparents who are her mother’s parents. They do not appear much in the series, but she does get along with them when they do appear. 

Friends

Tamae Honami: Tamae is Maruko’s best friend. They are always seen playing together, and even sit next to each other in class. Tamae is more mature than Maruko and helps her whenever she can. Tamae often worries about Maruko if she believes that Maruko is in trouble. Maruko treasures their friendship and fears accidentally hurting her feelings. The two of them are practically sisters.

Kazuhiko Hanawa: Hanawa is a wealthy boy in Maruko’s class. He is very polite and speaks elegantly, and often talks about his luxurious vacations and expensive cuisine. Maruko is sometimes annoyed by him because of his elite nature, but she does hang out with him and sees him as a good friend. She sometimes feels sad for him because his parents are often overseas and don’t spend much time with him, but is happy that his butler is always there for him. There are hints that Hanawa has a crush on Maruko. For example: He wanted her to give him chocolate on Valentine’s Day, he gave her roses on her birthday, and he hangs out with her the most out of all the girls. Maruko does not notice that he has a crush on her. 

Noritaka Hamazaki: Hamazaki is a boy who often hangs out with Maruko and her friends. He is a bit of a class clown and often makes jokes in class. Like Maruko, his family is poor but his family is much more poor than hers. He doesn’t mind letting Maruko play sports with him and the rest of the boys.

Toshiko Tsuchihashi: Toshiko is another friend of Maruko’s. She is very sweet and understanding of Maruko and Tamae are troubled, and will often give them advice. 

Osama Nagayama: Osama is one of the smartest kids in Maruko’s class. Maruko is impressed with how much he knows, and even went birdwatching with him to learn about the different species of birds. 

Taro Tomita: Taro is a boy who mostly hangs out with Hamazaki, but does hang out with Maruko from time to time. 

Emiko Noguchi: Emiko is a strange girl who often appears out of nowhere. She likes comedy and writes down things that Maruko has done that she finds comedic. She wants to be good friends with Maruko, who is a favorite in her comedy notebook. Maruko seems to have gotten used to Emiko appearing out of nowhere, and will defend her if Emiko’s older brother is mistreating her. 

Other Classmates

Sueo Maruo: Maruo is the male class representative. Maruo often annoys Maruko and the rest of the class, since he thinks that some of them are trying to take his position as class representative. Maruo tries to interact with Maruko and her friends, probably because he does not have any himself. Maruko is often forced to include him. It’s possible that he may have a crush on Maruko. 

Hanako Migiwa: Migiwa is the female class representative. Migiwa often acts elegant and princess-like, and is can often act dramatic when discussing her love for Hanawa. She tends to become angry if another girl seems interested in Hanawa. She sees Maruko as her love-rival, since Hanawa often hangs out with her. Despite this, Migiwa and Maruko do help each other out sometimes. 

Kenichi Ono and Satoshi Sugiyama: Ono and Sugiyama are two boys in Maruko’s class and are best friends. The two of them love playing sports, especially soccer, and can be a little pushy and demanding when put in charge. Nevertheless, the two of them will defend others from bullies, and are willing to let Maruko play sports with them. Some believe that Ono has a crush on Maruko.

#Gamefemerides Hace 10 años se lanza en América, Yakuza 4 (en japonés 龍が如く4 伝説を継ぐもの , Ryu ga gotoku: Densetsu o tsugumono, "Como un Dragón: Sucesor de la leyenda").
