Halia Faylyn-Coen
Tumblr media
Halia was born and raised in Silgo, Ireland, right near the border of North Ireland. Her parents, Dahlia and Patrick, did their best to provide for her with what little they had. The fear of terror attacks and little money they were making made it difficult but they got by. Halia was 7 when her baby sister came into the world.
Growing up she watched Terror groups outside of her town go and attack the people living up in the north. At first it scared her, as it would any child, but as she grew up the propaganda around her in town, a strange twisted sense of patriotism washed over her. In her early teens she started falling in with the IRA. She thought she could do some good for her country and people. It was here where she learned her mastery of explosives, a skill that has saved her life more often in her later years. By the time she was 17, she had already designed a few bombs for several large scale attacks but she was never implicated. It was because of Scarlett she’d been caught.
One night, Halia had gone off to her group only to have Scarlett follow her walk all the way to the building they liked to meet. She hadn’t even noticed until the little redhead commented on the odd design of the piece. She started yelling at Scarlett, this isn’t any place for a kid, she’ll just get herself killed here. Scarlett asks “Then why are you here?”
That hit her. She told her group that she just needed to go home and she left, hand in hand with her baby sister. When she got home, she confessed everything to her parents. They weren’t even sure what to do. Eventually Patrick said that the girls just need to leave the country. It’s too dangerous now. He doesn’t know how the town IRA would react to their bomb maker leaving the team. They knew her. They know what her little sister looks like. They may be in danger. They may be ratted out to police.
So they left. Sent to America to start a better, safer life. Halia didn’t know what to do with herself here. She was still trying to relearn what it was like to be a normal person. While in her new high school a presenter spoke to her class, a police officer of sorts. He said he was a member of a Special team, S.T.A.R.S. as it was called. He talked about how he had a few former cons on his team with exceptional skills. That was all she needed to hear.
Straight out of high school, Halia signed up for the S.T.A.R.S. team and after the head of the team saw her skills with explosives and heavy weapons he was generally impressed so thus she was brought on. The danger with the job was worth the risk if she was actually doing some good now. Being a good example for her sister.
She did everything to make sure Scarlett lived a comfortable life in America. She bought her her first guitar, took her to music lessons, and gave her anything she wanted, and Scarlett was almost always just happy to spend time with her sister and with her friends outdoors. So when she started hearing about the strange murders and disappearances going on in their town she was sure to butt her way into the case.
This case changed Halia and Scarlett’s lives forever. Scarlett had only just left town to go on tour. The case hit it’s breaking point and it seemed her and her team were the only ones really able to handle the constant case load. One night in July the world came to a screeching halt for Halia. The night before the well known mansion incident. Her and Bravo team were sent ahead to the mansion but something went horribly wrong. They were attack and she and her teammate, Rebecca Chambers, fond themselves trapped in a train right out of an old horror movie. This also happens to be the place where she’d meet her to be husband, Billy Coen, a falsely accused of murder Marine who helped to save both Rebecca and herself on this hell ride. After barely surviving the train and making it to the mansion and barely surviving that as well she needed to warn her sister and get out of dodge. Unfortunately, with the company behind all of this tracking her and the remaining members of her team down, she didn’t have a chance to warn her and Scarlett wound up back in time for the Raccoon City incident.
Years have passed now, Halia and Scarlett are now battle hardened women struggling with the mental tax of living day to day. They still share a close bond. Halia has since retired to Ireland with Billy and she tries to call Scarlett at least once a week. They’ve both been through the same hell so they at least know how to help each other, though in more recent years Scarlett’s PTSD fueled alcoholism has put a strain on things. Halia knows she needs to go see her but it’s hard to pin Scarlett down long enough to talk to her and help her.
She’s going to keep trying though. That’s her baby sister after all.
