Slight lengthy read: Shake it Off is about readying oneself for freedom. I imagined it as the song Daedalus sang as he crafted the wings that would eventually be the vehicle for he and Icarus' escape from their prison. In the second verse I reference "White Tiger" a book by Aravind Adiga whose main protagonists also sought freedom from a number of constructs. The image I wanted was that of Icarus and Daedalus bound, but not with typical shackles, I saw them with nomadic like headdresses with prayer beads as their bindings.
