im a hater and the green lantern corps are not found family. theyre coworkers. theyre not dating. theyre coworkers. hal has ruined the lives (directly and indirectly) of the other “four corpsmen” so many times its not even funny. hal killed the majority of the green lanterns and the ones that survived were hunting him down. the only reason that anyone stood up for hal is because geoff johns has a raging boner for hal and wrote everyone forgiving him or him being defended by lanterns he’d killed that had since been brought back *cough* kilowog *cough*

whats with people redrawing that panel from green lantern like issue 3 i think where hal is talking down to guy because “oh no the guy with brain damage is going to be the main green lantern on earth for a minute. i have to hold his head in place while i talk to him so i know he’s focusing on me�� and like trying to make it ship art? like… its one of hal’s ableist moments. he’s being a dick

stewing on this today but like i really do not understand hal fans at all. like if youre someone who went back and read his stuff from the beginning and then you get to the part where hal/arisia happens and you aren’t grossed out im just??? ive seen people say “oh gerard jones made it weird later but it was fine before that” and its like it was weird before that! like before arisia forces her puberty with the lantern ring hal literally says that he sees her as a child and thats not going to change. and then after they start dating he says “and ive got to convince people that im not a child molester” and all of this is in the initial arc written by steve englehart

and like i get that the intention was probably trying to explore how alien societies might have different relationships with age and maturity and puberty or whatever but i dont think it reads that way. from the start it reads like the shitty “precocious girl hits puberty and convinces an older man to sleep with her” storyline but now with a scifi twist of she looks completely like an adult! even though all stories previous during and after (until the mid 90s id say) have her acting like a child. and like no matter what hal is the adult here and should have been the one to draw the boundary and stick by that boundary and for someone whose powers work based on willpower and is supposedly “the best green lantern that ever lived” he shouldve been able to maintain that boundary

“but it was retconned later” yeah retconned by a man who grew up reading those comics and still decided that hal was his hero and his green lantern and his most specialist boy in the world demonstrated time and time again by how johns has the story bend over backwards to make hal come out clean as the driven snow

i hate hal but geoff johns deciding that none of the parallax arc was really hal and that hal was just possessed was so bad and should not have happened. they should not have made hal the spectre. they should not have brought him back to life. they shouldve let him stay dead. having ended his life on the high point of his character history which was becoming a villain and finally making him interesting for once in his miserable little life

6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?

hmmmm ok so like most ships that i actively hate i don’t think anyone could convince me to like them HOWEVER i did have a strong distaste for whenever anyone would add guy to booster and ted’s relationship because a lot of the time that i’ve seen it (in my quest for guy content that wasn’t guyh*l or guyk*le) guy is just sorta there as an afterthought which sucks when the other two literally have a canon “i will destroy the world just to spend one more day by your side” arc. recently though @floralbeetle / @starringbeetle has been making good stuff where like guy actually feels like an equal member of the group so finally good goostle content 💖

9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?

hal…… i can’t stand this man (derogatory) and it’s because i’ve read so many storylines that he’s in trying to read stuff about carol and guy and like. he just sucks. like he’s a character where if you look at any story he’s in from someone else’s point of view you would hate him. and since i end up reading his stuff because of other characters in it i do hate him.

i also dont like hawkman (he makes it so easy to dislike him i feel like i don’t need to explain) and then captain atom fucking sucks. he’s literally xenophobic and racist and still has a long ass solo book and he’s a huge asshole during tora’s funeral
