Two Redheads
Happy Belated Birthday, @utsukushiiyume! It’s nice to meet a fellow AnS and Hakuouki fan! I hope you enjoy this crossover fluff! Thank you for being an awesome person!
Modern AU, Akagami no Shirayukihime x Hakuouki crossover
Obi glanced at his phone for the tenth time. He would have picked up Shirayuki, but work ran late so they promised to meet at the bar. He chugged his bottle of Budweiser, letting the cool bitter taste wash away his worry.
I’ll be wearing a white t-shirt and jeans. That’s bar appropriate, right?
Obi re-read the text that was sent an hour ago. It was country night and all drinks were half off if you wear the theme’s attire. Obi tapped his brown boots as he took another long sigh, pressing his back against the counter. The music was blaring and each time he glanced at the entrance more people trickled inside.
He turned around to grab the bartender’s attention, hoping to nurse another beer before Shirayuki arrived. A burly man pushed against him, crowding the counter to holler as well. Obi scowled at the rudeness, and decided that a fight this early in the night was not worth it.
“Yo! Three Buds, please!” The man shouted, a big goofy grin made its way on his face. He looked over to Obi, nodding his head and smiling at him.
“Oh, my bad. Did I just cut in front of you?” he said, with a genuine tone.
“No worries, man. You’re good.” Obi relaxed his muscles, and felt a little remorse for assuming the guy was a dickhead. His eyes fell down to the man’s necklace, the three green beads reminded him of the color of Shirayuki’s eyes.
The man must have noticed Obi’s gaze as he clutched the necklace with his big hand. “I never take this off, even when I’m fucking.” They both laugh at the man’s bluntness, the man patting Obi on the shoulder like they’re old friends. The bartender finally came, handing the man three bottles.
“My friends and I are at that side of the bar. Feel free to say hi again, dude. Name’s Shinpachi.”
“Obi.”
“All right, Obi. Hope to see you square dancing later!” Obi had to admit Shinpachi’s smile was contagious, and he found himself smiling back at him.
He looked at his phone again, and finally noticed why his phone was practically dead--no signal. Goddamn AT&T. He vowed to switch networks as soon as he gets home.
Shirayuki has to be here, he said to himself. He scanned the dimly lit room, hoping to find the bright red hair that belonged to his girlfriend. Damn, it was packed. He moved away from the counter, snaking in and out of the dance floor.
He made his way toward the pool hall, where it was less crowded but definitely a sausage fest instead. No way she would be here. On second thought, she could be here since she would be looking for him as well. He did love a good game of pool once in a while. He made a mental note to invite Mitsuhide and Zen for a game of eight-ball sometime.
In the corner of the room, he finally saw the back of familiar bright redhead. She was bent down, like she was tying her shoes. The tight jeans made her ass plump, and Obi felt a twitch between his legs as he closed the distance between them. She was in the white t-shirt like she said, though from his angle, her back seemed elongated, like she was six feet tall instead of a petite frame. Damn trick of the lights.
Obi was feeling frisky and he pinched Shirayuki’s butt. “Babe, there you...”
It was not Shirayuki. The redhead straightened his back, and turned around.
“What the fuck? Did you just touch me?” The man with the short red hair and amber eyes pulled a fist up, ready to punch him. Before he could connect with Obi’s face, a large hand stopped him.
“Yo! What’s going on, Sano?” Shinpachi said, restraining his furious friend. He looked over to Obi, whose hands were up to block the man’s punch. “Obi?”
“I thought you were my girlfriend,” Obi explained, his tone even and calm. Holy shit, he never expected to meet anyone with red as bright as Shirayuki’s. Although at a closer look, this Sano’s was a bit darker. Damn trick of the lights.
Small arms wrapped around Sano’s shoulders, and patted him on the chest. “Three more beers and he’ll swing that way, I guarantee.”
“Shut up, Heisuke,” Sano barked, elbowing his friend. Sano took a deep sigh, his body relaxing as his two friends stepped in between him and Obi. “Seriously, what made you think I was your girlfriend?”
Obi smirked and showed him his lock screen. “Your hair.”
Sano moved his face closer, his eyes darting back and forth from the phone and behind Obi. “Dude, she looks hotter in person.” He pointed behind Obi, flashing a bright smile.
Obi turned around, rushing to hug Shirayuki. She was in a white t-shirt and jean shorts, and his hands slid down her back to grope her ass. It was not as thick as Sano’s, but it definitely felt softer in his hands.

Beep! I was thinking maybe a #11 between Chizuru and Sen that accidentally got sent to one of the captains (your choice)?
A confession text between Chizuru and Sen accidentally sent to a captain.
Imp Note: I wasn’t sure if this was a confession from Chizuru to Sen (or vice versa), or a confession about a captain but sent between Chizuru and Sen. Either is possible, but I can more easily visualize the second mistake arising, since Sen is shown asking Chizuru who she likes in all sorts of versions of Hakuouki.
On the other hand, the first presented me with more interesting texts…
~ImpracticalOni
[sent from Chizuru’s personalized pink phone (TokuMob)][intended for Senhime (iOniSys)][received by ?]
Thank you so much for talking with me the other day. 😊😊
It was really great to spend time with you. You understand things so much better than everyone else! 💕
I hope you don’t mind me saying this, but your hair always looks so pretty and you always have such lovely clothes.
I know you keep wondering who I like out of the Shinsengumi captains (and Hijikata-san). But the thing is that I like you best of all. 💗 I rlly hope that’s not too weird. 😅
I understand that you’re just being friendly. I just wanted you to know.
Hijikata: Pretty sure it’s not meant for him. Wants to know who’s chatting up Chizuru. Doesn’t like phone being used for love notes sheesh. Also: who has pretty hair other than him??? The bit about lovely clothes is just weird, although some of the guys have strange clothes and Saitou’s got that whole flowing scarf thing going… [Decides to ignore text.]
Okita: Scans the texts, eyebrows shooting up. It might be for him, but the tone is all wrong. Quickly takes a look at the header coding and realizes it was meant for somebody on iOniSys. Intriguing. Hopefully not that Kazama asshole. Concerned that Chizuru has been talking to enemies of the Shinsengumi. [Makes plans to acquire Chizuru’s phone or scare the info out of her. Besides, if she does have a crush on somebody that’s worth knowing too.]
Saitou: Totally confused. He does not recall talking with Yukimura on any personal topics. … Or at all, really. Her behaviour has been satisfactory. Why would he talk with her? Nervously touches hair and pulls bangs more securely over face. Eyes widen at reference to ‘lovely’ clothes (although it is now difficult to read the texts through his bangs). Meditates. Concludes texts could not be intended for him. [Reports matter to the Vice Commander.]
Heisuke: Is an optimist. Kind of wonders if texts really might be for him. Didn’t realize that Chizuru liked his clothes but glad that somebody appreciates them. Blushes a lot. Rereads several times. Eventually drops phone and breaks screen. [Can’t respond. Too embarrassed to respond in person.]
Harada: Finds the whole text a little puzzling. Might be for him, but the tone is definitely “off”. Already has a suspicion that Sen teases Chizuru about “who she likes”, because even from a distance he knows what that conversation looks like. Put in the context of Chizuru having a crush on Sen the whole thing makes more sense, although it would be disappointing. [Reluctantly concludes it’s not for him and ignores text as gentlemanly thing to do.]
Nagakura: Figures it really can’t be for him. Must be for Sano because the women always go for Sano which is so freakin’ obnoxious. Plus the bit about being all “understanding” is totally Sano, the lousy bastard. [Irritably forwards text to Sano with appropriate commentary.]
Itou: Doesn’t surprise him in the slightest. He’s not entirely sure if Yukimura is a girl or a boy, but doesn’t care: he’s used to being admired. Secretly pleased that somebody thinks he has the best hair (that peasant Hijikata really pisses him off pretending like he’s the true poster boy for L’Oreal). Has to agree with Yukimura that he has lovely clothes. Is a little surprised that Yukimura knew that he was wondering if the child had a thing for one of the captains - but the whole set of texts demonstrates a more perceptive mind than he’d realized. [Decides not to respond, since it’s beneath him and he doesn’t want trouble. Smiles more frequently at Chizuru, which she finds creepy and just a little terrifying.]

Hey Hakuouki Loving Zedge Users!
I have a zedge account that I upload Touken Ranbu voice clips and Hakuouki clips for ringtones and text tones.
If anyone would like something specific, I will gladly do my best to meet your request. I have a professional editing software, but I'm still learning. I might not be able to cancel background music, but I have been able to get some decent tones.
If you would like to send me a link or have a voice clip/song clip that you would like to use, I'd be all too happy to create it for you. I usually take pieces from YouTube, so if you send me a video link with the specific time on the video and indicate what line/song/sound you would like, I will do my best!
And, yes. I am going to make a nee compilation. Because Souji pestering you to check your texts is yes.
And, if you want to check out what I've already done, just type in Hakuouki or Touken Ranbu in the search bar. I'm the only one making Haku text tones right now.

BEEP: Saito > Chizuru 21 / 11 / 14 A long confession text that wasn't ultimately sent. During their special ops mission, Saito had typed a well thought-out a text to the unexpectedly lovely undercover geisha, but every time he started to hit "Send" he was interrupted. Chizuru's phone was lying on the tatami mat nearby, blowing up with FB Messenger notifications. From men harassing Chizuru. Sending her pictures of their... shortswords. She really ought to be more careful with privacy settings.
Okaaaaaaaaaay. So we are going seriously AU here: forget letters, this is the Edo period with cell phones! And we are not going to think about that too hard, right? 👘⚔️ … with cell phones …
For those who want extra visual context, please see the Hakuouki Anime OVA, Episode 2. The setting is the Sumi, a restaurant located in Kyoto’s red light district. Chizuru has dressed up as a geisha in order to spy on Choshu rebels. Most of the Shinsengumi captains have found either reasons or excuses to be in the building.
Saito and Yamazaki have volunteered to watch over Chizuru. Unfortunately, nobody expected Chizuru to be so lovely in her geisha attire or considered her effect on impressionable clients and Shinsengumi alike.
Memories of Unspoken Love ~ Saito Hajime
Yukimura-san -
Saito hesitated, then nodded to himself. Yes, it was appropriate to use the honorific given the subject he intended to broach. Besides, if he hesitated over every word then this text, expressing his sincere (but polite) admiration for her, would never get sent. Seeing her this evening looking so beautiful had shaken him, but had also strengthened his resolve. He took a deep breath, trying not to waste even more time dwelling on her shapely neck or the way that the fine material had somehow emphasized her delicate bones or–
He stared down at the one word (plus honorific) printed on the screen. He could do this.
I am sending this to tell you that I admire your courage–
Did he dare write his honest thoughts? Some of them, at least? Saito wiped a faint sheen of sweat from his palms, something he rarely had to do.
–your courage for undertaking such a potentially troublesome task.
He couldn’t bring himself to say “and beauty”. It was probably too forward in any event.
I realize that you may not have wanted to dress in such attire this evening; it may even be that you dislike it. However, I want you to know–
#Beep!
Saito stared at the small pouch beside him. Chizuru–ah, Yukimura–had apparently left her cell phone in her bag, whether by design or by accident. Well, hopefully it would not ring or beep too much and he could–
#Beep! #Beep! … #Beep! … #Beep! #Beep!
This was ridiculous–or? Maybe Yukimura was in trouble and she or somebody else was trying to signal him? Or it was some other emergency? Either way, he couldn’t concentrate on his text with such infernal noise.
Cautiously, Saito pulled Chizuru’s phone out of her bag. It bothered him that the phone was pink. While pink was a pleasing colour for Chi–Yukimura–it did not enhance her role as a boy, in his opinion. Very few boys or men wore lighter colours these days; even the Vice Commander’s habitual purple kimono was dark.
He glanced at the screen: it indicated that there were eight new messages waiting. Saito himself would never maintain a Facebook account with his own name and picture; he suddenly suspected that Yukimura might. He wondered briefly how such a potential security breach had been allowed to arise (as does the author), however, that was not the immediate problem.
Since all of the Shinsengumi leaders knew Yukimura’s password (whether out of basic prudence or because she had left it as “password1″), it was a simple thing to check the messages in order to ensure that there was no emergency requiring Saito’s personal attention.
What the… heck?! Saito was almost forced to borrow from the Vice Commander’s vocabulary in order to express himself when he saw the content of some of the messages. The texts were lewd enough, but in several instances the senders had taken pictures of… themselves.
Saito turned red at the idea of Chizuru seeing such indecent content on her phone. Without hesitation, he deleted it all, his swift actions suggesting more than a passing knowledge of both phone and app. He allowed a minute to pass, but there were no further messages. Frowning, but deciding that he should not invade Yukimura’s privacy any further without cause, he placed the phone back into the pouch and returned to his own message. It wasn’t at all easy to concentrate now, but a few moments of meditation (and the thought that Chizuru would be spared distress) soothed him.
Yukimura-san - I am sending this to tell you that I admire your couragefor undertaking such a potentially troublesome task.I realize that you may not have wanted to dress in such attire this evening; it may even be that you dislike it. However, there is something I want you to know so that I don’t regret keeping my silence later: I think you look very pretty in the kimono that Kimigiku-san loaned you.
It wasn’t everything that he wanted to say, but at least he’d managed the part about looking pretty. Saito felt heat rising in his cheeks again. Now… was he going to go ahead with the next part? He had promised himself he would, but maybe it was better to say nothing. She had looked very lovely, however… Not that Yukimura wasn’t nice-looking all of the time, of course–it would be illogical to think that make-up and a woman’s kimono would change her overall appearance to such a degree–but…
He wiped a few drops of perspiration from his forehead. It was now or never, truly. He was not a vain man, but he thought that Yukimura seemed to enjoy his company, at least. Perhaps she found him more restful than the others? He did try to treat her with whatever consideration was possible under the circumstances. Finding that reviewing his own merits (especially when compared to those of the Vice Commander, or Harada), was not helping his confidence, he once again set his doubts aside and bent himself to his task. He wished that he could at least have a jar of sake.
…loaned you. I also want you to know–
–did he really?–
–that I admire you a great deal quite apart from how you have dressed for this mission. If you are willing, and it is permitted, I would like to spend more time in your company in the future.
He could feel the sweat on his brow and the blood high in his cheeks. Did that actually convey what he–
#Beep! #Beep! #Beep!… #Beep!#Beep! … #Beep! #Beep!#Beep!#Beep!
Saito almost broke his phone as the cacophony assailed his ears and ruined his concentration. What in the gods’ names was going on? He had assumed that they had found her Facebook profile by doing an image search–she had been given a false name to use–but why were the messages starting up again now?**
** The answer to this question is as follows: Chizuru had fled the Choshu spies’ room in some haste, distressed by certain proposals that had been made to her (although she could not fault the men involved, under the circumstances)., Some of the men had been smart enough or sober enough to have taken photos of Chizuru before her departure and had sent the first round of messages (because why run when you can text). Receiving no response, they had finally gone looking for Chizuru, only to run into opposition:
With one notable exception (”Yamazaki Style Ninja Arts Tatami Mat Flip!”), the lust-and-drink fortified pursuers had retreated in order to use more nefarious (but less dangerous) means to hunt the pretty geisha. (Only theoretically less dangerous, as it turned out.)
Saito snatched up Chizuru’s phone, stabbed several buttons, and this time not only deleted the harassing messages but blocked the senders. He was momentarily regretful that he didn’t have time to do a proper review of Yukimura’s privacy settings, especially as her security level was patently inadequate.
He then pulled his own phone out of his kimono sleeve and stared at the message he’d typed:
Yukimura-san - I am sending this to tell you that I admire your courage for undertaking such a potentially troublesome task. I realize that you may not have wanted to dress in such attire this evening; it may even be that you dislike it. However, there is something I want you to know so that I don’t regret keeping my silence later: I think you look very pretty in the kimono that Kimigiku-san loaned you. I also want you to knowthat I admire you a great deal quite apart from how you have dressed for this mission. If you are willing, and it is permitted, I would like to spend more time in your company in the future.
His fingers hovered over the send key, but then he changed his mind and added:
Sincerely ~ Saitou Hajime
It might look a bit strange, with a text, but it seemed better to him. Now, all he had to do was–
There was a rumble of heavy feet and male voices outside the door and Saito jumped up, seriously vexed. What was it now?! Was he never going to be allowed to text in peace? Even as he slipped his phone away (he was taking no chances with anyone seeing his words), the door was flung open.
“Where’s the girl?” demanded Large Tough Guy One.
“Hey, the signal locator said she was here! Where the hell is the girl?” shouted Large Tough Guy Two.
Saito felt his vision begin to go red. These must be some of the men who had written the obscene messages to Chizuru! And he still hadn’t gotten to send his own message!
“You have just interrupted a very important moment requiring my full concentration,” he told the men in cold, menacing tones. “I am afraid that I will be unable to restrain myself.”
“What? Who the hell are you?”
“Yeah! This doesn’t concern you–stay out of this!”
Saito heard the panel behind him slide open and knew immediately who it was.
“Saito-san! Oh no!”
“I work as a bouncer for the Sumi,” Saito told Large Tough Guys One and Two (and their comrades). “Therefore, this is my concern.” He risked a brief glance over his shoulder at the vision of loveliness that was Chizuru. “Get out to the front entrance immediately, Yukimura,” he somehow managed to tell her.
She nodded obediently, although she looked worried for him, her large, brown eyes looking even larger and softer than usual. It almost made his heart stop to see her like that! But when Yukimura turned and fled, there was a growl from the men just inside the other doorway.
Saito’s face hardened and he knew that his anger was visible. He stared scornfully at the growing pack of men across the room from him.
“Come at me then. I will be your opponent.”
Naturally, it was no contest. Unfortunately, Saito’s text was never sent. He tried to convince himself that it was just as well.
@cherryb0mb79 My apologies for how long it took me to get to this. I am very behind on all my writing for various reasons. I hope you enjoy it!

Last song I listened to: It’s the Fear by Within Temptation (in an AMV)
