Where do you buy your cool hair accessories? Especially if you have recommendations for ones that are easy to use- I’d like to do something with my hair that isn’t a ponytail or messy bun, but I also like sleeping as late as possible :)

Dear anon, you are my new favorite person! I’ve been thinking for about a week that I should make a post like this, except then I would tell myself no one was interested.

Hair toy vendors:

Grah-Toe Studios (edit: removed link as it was now dead) - hair forks, sticks, and swords (in wood, antler, and waterproof materials) (this is one of their forks)

BaerreisCollection - wooden hair forks and sticks (this is one of their forks)

Sunburst Crafts - leather hair slides/barrettes (this is one of their slides)

Ficcare - large metal hair clips for French twists and more (these actually aren’t my favorite, but they come in lots of colors and a lot of people swear by them, and I *do* use them)

…and it looks like several of my old stand-bys for hair sticks have closed or turned to other things, but there are approximately 8 million new vendors who have popped up on Etsy while I’ve been growing my hair out again, so.

Hair style recommendations:

What I actually did when my hair got longer than most websites had “long hair” style suggestions for was join the Long Hair Community forum, but most of their articles and stuff got borked when they migrated servers several years ago, so now my advice is to go watch

Torrin Paige’s hairstyle videos - she has a lot of more intricate buns when she gets on a historical or TV show recreation kick, but if you scroll down you’ll also find videos like “Back to Basics” and “[Technique] for Dummies” where she doesn’t assume you’re coming into it with any prior knowledge

Training Braid Tutorial - this is a simple thing I put together for a friend who was complaining French braids required too much behind-the-back coordination (it’s from 2009, and I note Wordpress has seen fit to do some weird things to one of the pictures, but it’s still usable)

At some point I need to get M to help me do a video of how I do my go-to bun, because it’s not actually any of the normal Long Hair Community standards, but instead more of a hybrid I invented by accident, and I can’t really adequately explain it in words, but hopefully you’ll find some possible buns on Torrin’s channel that will work for your hair!
