When first using the straightener it had a smell like plastic melting. After using it for awhile, the smell has gone away. But I’m disappointed with the item and don’t think it was worth the cost. It has a cheap plastic feel and does not feel as solidly built as my Sedu straightener. And worst of all, when I straighten my hair and try to curve the straightener outward to give some shape and volume to my hair, it snags and scrapes my hair. I can hear it scraping against my hair, and this does not happen with the sedu. I think it has to do with the way the edges are fashioned. Instead of one smooth piece, it has plastic pieces put together which catch hair. If you just pull straight down, this minimizes the scraping/snagging, but then you will end up with a very flat hairstyle. If that’s what you want, great, but for this price I expected it to be more versatile and better built.
