As an Experienced Hair Designer and Salon Owner I am a little dissatisfied.
I am dissatisfied with the lack of Integrity and care for the people in this Industry.
Don’t get me wrong I was trained by one of Edinburgh Best Hairdressing Icons and also worked in Edinburgh’s BIG leading Salons.
Heck I’ve learnt along the way with a great mindset and belief in myself. That’s why I still do it, still love it, and overall passionate about it. Leading the way passionately keeping my Integrity in tact with ease.
This hasn’t been the ethos of a lot Salons Colleges, Academies at least in my opinion.
You see in my 8 years in Business and 20 years in the industry I have seen a lot of people loose their passion, their drive!
This cannot be happening.
We are exchanging the art of hair, the science behind our trade, the positivity, the honesty and integrity we offer for a corporate money driven business.
Now don’t get me wrong. Business is Business and you need to cover bills and live. I get that. What I don’t get is why all this amazing stuff I have engrained in me has to disappear.
Yes products sales figures etc are what hold the business purse strings but what’s happened to love of it. The care in it. The doing it just to create amazing HAIR.
Be yourself, create your hairdressing vibe?
This is all dying.
The latest statistics figure was 2 out of a class of 16/17 hairdressing students do hairdressing as a career.
I know.
I SAVED 1 of them at my Coaching School @EDINBURGHHAIRCOACH.
She qualified at college and knew she needed more training. She was going to do her level 3 but found a job at a salon that said they would help. Yes the did a little. But for 2 years she was shown how to do a balayage and Keratin Blowdry, left to her own devices being given clients left right and centre to being in the money. She had so many things she wasn’t confident in she was “winging it” 80% of the time.
Her tutor at college was just a trainer at college. Crippled with arthritis and struggled teaching properly. I’ve had to correct her posture, show her modern hairdressing techniques, convince her she is more than capable and actually her Coaching was more than she thought she needed.
I’ve managed to restore her faith not only herself but her career this Industry.
She was 1 week away from that 75% statistic.
