#hair styles matter so much to me character wise idk why

Me, multiple months ago: I hate how many of the bat boys have an undercut as their default hair style.*

Me, today: Tim would look good with long hair in an undercut style, and it would work if he still had the burn scars on the back of his head and neck.

*Note: I still hate the short undercut haircut and how it's like the hairstyle for three of the bat boys.

so let’s talk about the new bak-u-go stuff

hey guys, so long story short, I took all of the bak-u-go stuff out of my weekly liveblog/recap post, and put it into its own separate post so that it didn’t take over the recap completely. so this is my big “all of my thoughts about the second OFA user’s vestige in chapter 304” post, basically.

my opinion going into the chapter

okay so without mincing words, my very controversial stance on this theory going in was more or less, “yes, I do think that maybe that Bakugou-shaped shadow who looks exactly like Bakugou could, in fact, be Bakugou.” not only that, but it strikes me as much more feasible than the alternatives, “Bakugou’s ancestor who looks exactly like him was the second user of OFA for some reason, and Horikoshi keeps hiding his face because... we don’t really know”, or “this is just some random guy with spiky hair, and again his face is being hidden just because.”

like, there is some reason we’re not allowed to know what he looks like, especially at this point. and writing-wise, there are really only three possible explanations for this. (1) it’s a red herring meant to trick us for some reason, (2) his character design hasn’t been completed yet, or (3) something about this character’s appearance is a spoiler, and the reveal is supposed to be a surprise.

regarding (1), I actually think this is the case with the Third. clearly he is not Kirishima as some had speculated. he doesn’t appear to be familiar at all. so if that’s the case, why is his face also being hidden? my theory is that it’s simply to lampshade the fact that the Second is being hidden as well. if Second was the only vestige whose face we couldn’t see, it would be beyond obvious at that point that he was someone familiar to us. having another vestige doing the same weird stuff makes him stand out slightly less.

anyways though, as far as Second himself being a red herring, I guess he could be. but a red herring for what? not to say it isn’t possible, but I don’t really see what the purpose would be.

regarding (2), this is a remote possibility, but imo it would be pretty uncharacteristic of Horikoshi. plus by this point he’s had more than enough time to flesh the design out. all of the other vestige character designs are completed, and we’ve seen all of Second and Third except their fronts and faces by this point. so I’m gonna go out on a limb and say this isn’t the reason.

which leaves (3): this character’s identity is important in some way, and is being purposely kept secret. this to me implies that it must be someone we know (because otherwise it wouldn’t be a spoiler). which basically means that no matter what, the possibilities are about to get weird.

my thoughts on the new “evidence” in the chapter

first off, my biggest impression is that there really isn’t much new evidence at all either way lol. but okay, let’s review what we got.

I’m ignoring Third at this point because I honestly have no idea who he is. he may very well be someone we haven’t met yet, so I don’t think there’s much point in speculating. so let’s focus on Second instead.

the hair

first off, his hair isn’t quite right to be Bakugou’s. it’s darker than Bakugou’s hair usually is, at least in the close-up, and also the hair on the nape of his neck doesn’t quite look right; it’s got more of an undercut vibe than Bakugou’s usually does. Bakugou’s hair is usually more out-of-control dandelion puff from the back.

so yeah, I’m not sold by this image. though on the other hand, I will say that as far as the argument that his hair is too dark, that’s undermined by the wide angle panel right before the close-up in which his hair isn’t colored in at all.

so yeah, it could just be something about the lighting in the close-up. also, the RHA scan seems to have upped the contrast a bit more than the original image.

here it doesn’t seem to be quite as dark compared to the wall he’s standing against. I could be wrong, though; we’ll get a better idea when the official version is released in a couple days.

but overall the style of the hair seems more off to me than the color. on the whole, I’m not really convinced either way here, so I’ll move on.

the rest of him

okay so first off, obviously this is not Bakugou’s current hero costume in any way, shape or form. honestly my first thought was “what is Shippuuden-era Naruto doing here in the OFA Mystical Space Land” lol. so yeah, no idea what that’s all about.

however he does have gauntlets! so this is definitely someone with some sort of arm or hands-related quirk. and Kacchan does have a new gauntlet design that we’ll see in movie 3, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility that these could be another new design along those lines. that said, these are clearly not his current big ugly grenade-style gauntlets.

last but not least, this person seems older than Bakugou, which for me makes me considerably less enthused about the possibilities here, since I’m a weirdo who likes the idea of a timeskip even less than most people seem to like the idea of time travel, lol. then again there really isn’t much here to support that “he seems older” statement; that’s just the general vibe I get from him, idk.

I will say though that he has Kacchan’s same triangle-shaped torso with the same broad shoulders and upper back tapering down into a more slender build. that stuck out to me right away when I looked at this image. but he really does give off Naruto vibes as well lol, like I can’t unsee it sob.

anyway, and last but not least,

the hidden faces

because so far most of the attention seems to be on their appearances. but those aside, this chapter introduces a very interesting question that this mystery will have to address one way or the other. namely, why are these two vestiges turned around and not interacting with the others?

“so that we can’t see their faces, duh” -- no, I get that, lol. but let’s talk in-story explanation now. why are they huddled in the time-out corner not moving or speaking? what could possibly be the reason for that. we can see them clearly enough, so we know that they’re “unlocked” and fully formed in that sense. All Might’s vestige is the only one that’s not yet visible, and supposedly that’s because he was quirkless?? and so he didn’t have a quirk factor that could be passed down through OFA initially. though I didn’t quite understand all of that part tbh.

but so then what’s the deal with these two losers? are they just antisocial or what? OFA First says that the vestige souls which were chilling out inside of OFA gradually gained the ability to take a physical form as OFA grew more powerful. and these two clearly have taken a physical form. so then why don’t they talk? there are only a few explanations for this that I can see.

(1) it could be that these guys are still alive, just like All Might (who doesn’t seem to be able to speak either, although the other vestiges can communicate with him in other ways).

(2) or, these guys are purposely hiding from Deku for some reason. (or at least, hiding as best as they can in this weird little rock slab floating in space.)

that’s it. if anyone else can think of more possibilities let me know because I’ve been sitting here racking my brain lol. this is all I can come up with. and honestly, either of these explanations would be suspicious as hell, theory-wise. if these two vestiges are still alive, that almost guarantees time travel right there. and if it’s simply that they’re hiding themselves from Deku, then that begs the question of why. which, again, leads us back to “they’re familiar, and Deku would recognize them.” (though that last bit goes against what I was saying earlier about the Third, doesn’t it. honestly I’m just spitballing here now, I haven’t really thought this all out too thoroughly.)

soooo... yeah. that’s pretty much where I’m at. nothing about this seems to make any more sense than it did a chapter ago tbh. though I will end this post by addressing one more thing, just cuz.

“this theory is dumb and makes no sense”

the correct statement to make here isn’t “this makes no sense”; it’s “we don’t know what’s going on yet.” if and when we finally get an explanation, then we can start making judgments about how much sense it does or doesn’t make. but until then we have nothing to base that verdict on.

same thing with “it’s dumb” -- look, “I hate time travel plots because they rarely work” is a valid opinion. but “rarely” isn’t the same thing as “never.” there are good time travel plots out there. idk why everyone keeps rolling with the assumption that this is going to be some cliche plot hole-filled science fiction bs narrative with a tragic ending. we have literally nothing to base that on. we have no answers and a whole lot of questions, is what we have.

maybe it will be disproven! or maybe it won’t, and it will be exactly as awful as everyone thinks and it will ruin the manga entirely. or maybe it will actually be really cool. we don’t know yet. that’s my one and only conclusion here -- that we shouldn’t jump to conclusions. but then again I guess it wouldn’t be BnHA fandom if we didn’t. anyway so thus concludes my post.

A/N: Guess who’s been watching Crazy Rich Asians again and replaying the wedding scene?? I’m tempted to write a CRA AU but idk which character I should write it for. Carlton?? I have too much wips, I’m surprised I was able to do this one-shot.

It’s a modern AU where they all knew each other from high school/college and Carlton is still CEO of a company.

You stood with the rest of the bridesmaids, gripping on to your bouquet tightly. Eddie and Anne were finally getting married and you were the maid of honor while Dan was the best man. You could see Eddie shifting around nervously, fixing his tie as the music started playing. You gave him a reassuring smile and nodded over down the aisle where the double doors opened, revealing Anne in a beautiful white dress. Two little flower girls skipped in front of her, flying pink flower petals down the aisle, followed by a little boy carrying the black velvet box. Dan knelt to his level and took it from him, taking out the ring and handing it over to Eddie. He patted him on the back and stepped away. Eddie’s breath caught in his throat as Anne began to gracefully walk down the aisle, his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down as he swallowed.

You grinned at the way the couple gazed at each other, happy that your best friends finally together. You turned away before tears could ruin your makeup, your eyes landing on your boyfriend in the front row. Eddie didn’t want him to be a groomsman, a decision that made your eyes roll, but it was his wedding and you had to live with it. Carlton ended up helping to pay for the reception, as a generous peace offering to Anne and to simply spite Eddie.

Carlton smiled in awe up at you, mouthing, “You’re so beautiful.”

“You, too,” you mouthed back, making him silently chuckle. He really looked good, though, sitting there with a white button shirt and tux and styled hair. It was different from his usual style of tracksuits under a suit jacket and a simple hairstyle.

You shook your head, distracting yourself with the pink and white flowers in your hands. The makeup was unfortunately not water-proof and you didn’t want it to run before Anne even reached the podium. Some people were already crying as the wedding proceeded, a few bridesmaids sniffling next to you. Due to their style, their vows had some comedic bantering that helped lightened the mood. Eddie even pointed a warning finger at everyone when they were asked if anyone objected, even pointing at Dan who raised his hands in surrender. Anne smacked Eddie’s arm and smiled.

“I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride.”

Anne pulled Eddie by his tie and wrapped her other arm around his neck, making him stumble forward as she kissed him. You laughed, clapping with everyone else. Your eyes went back to Carlton who had been watching you to whole time. He sent you a wink and blew you a kiss that still made your heart flutter no matter how many times he’s done it.

Eddie had disapproved with the size of the reception, but Anne convinced him to go with it since they weren’t paying for it anyways. It was a time to celebrate their happiness with their friends and family after all. A band played on a built stage while Anne and Eddie danced with the kids, other guests dancing around them. The cake had already been cut and the champagne bottles open, so everyone was either having fun dancing or indulging themselves in dessert. You laughed as the kids continuously separated Eddie from Anne on the dance floor, thought he didn’t do much to protest.

Carlton came back with two cake slices, kissing you on the forehead. “What’s so funny?” he asked.

“The kids won’t let Eddie dance with Annie,” you said, laughing as one of the boys latched onto Eddie’s leg.

“Whose kid is this, serious?” Eddie shouted, pointing at the boy.

Anne waved you over to come dance with her. “Wanna join?” you asked Carlton.

“I don’t really dance,” he said, “but you can go on ahead.”

You pouted, making Carlton chuckle as he leaned over to kiss your lips. You sighed in defeat, taking one bite of the cake before joining Anne on the dance floor. Kids immediately swarmed you and Anne as the two of you spun around. One girl ran over to you and gave each of you a flower crown. Anne bent down first, allowing the girl to put it on her head and you followed suit, thanking her. She giggled and ran off to find her friends.

“Can you guys help me pry this koala off?” Eddie pleaded.

You and Anne exchanged a look and walked over to him. You knelt to the boy’s eye level, persuading him to let go. Then, an idea struck you as you thought of Carlton sitting by himself at your table. You whispered to the boy and his friends your plan, promising them more cake if they do it. They nodded enthusiastically, scurrying away to set the plan in motion.

Carlton ended up eating both pieces of the cake as he sat and watch you dance. He wasn’t much of a dancer, and it wasn’t like he had much opportunities to dance in the first place. It was always work for him and if he were to be invited to charity events, he would mostly walk around and mingle with prospective clients and business partners. He knew that you loved to dance, though. Waking up with your side of the bed empty, he would see you dancing around in the kitchen, singing along with your Spotify playlist. You would drag him closer and make him spin you around, which was the extent of his dancing abilities.

A grin automatically spread across his face as you spun around, your light pink dress fanning around you. That morning, you had to leave the hotel early to help Anne get ready for the wedding, so he couldn’t see you in that dress. He sat in the front row and was rendered speechless as you walked to the front, leading the rest of the bridesmaids. The way your (y/h/c) fell off your shoulders and down your back, the way the dress fitted perfectly around you and flowed around your feet as if you were floating. He couldn’t keep his eyes away from you.

You met Carlton’s eyes and smiled, turning to disappear into the growing crowd on the dance floor.

“Excuse me,” a small voice said next to him.

Carlton looked down and saw the same boy that was latched to Eddie. He smiled at him. “Hey, there, little buddy.”

“Princess (Y/n) said to give you this,” the boy said, holding up a pink flower crown and a rose with a note on it.

Carlton took them both, reading the note that was clearly in your handwriting. The boy had scurried off into the crowd as soon as his job was done.

“Meet me in the garden, my prince,” it read. “P.S. Yes, you do have to wear the flower crown.”

He chuckled, remembering the time you told him he looked like a Disney prince wearing a suit and had tried to convince him to dress up as Aladdin during Halloween. When he saw you in your Princess Jasmine costume, the two of you couldn’t make it to your friend’s costume party.

He got up and made his way outside, ducking away from the party and into the still night. The garden was well lit with solar powered lights lining the pathways and fairy lights strewn across the trees and around the gazebo where you waited. Petals were scattered on the stone pathway that led to the gazebo, a small set of speakers sitting on the steps next to your phone.

“You know, I should be the one making these surprise events,” Carlton said, drawing your attention away from the rest of the garden. He walked up to the gazebo and kissed your hand. “My princess, you’ve summoned me?”

“Yes, I have, my prince,” you said, playing along. You took the flower crown from his hand and placed on his head with a satisfied smirk. “Dance with me.”

“(Y/n/n)… ”

“It’s just us here, Car. Please,” you pleaded.

Carlton drooped his head as he thought it over. Although he was frowning, it was hard to take him seriously with that crown on his head and he really looked cute with it on.

“Okay, okay, just… don’t get mad when I step on your shoes or your dress, okay?” he said.

You grabbed his face and peppered it with kisses before turning and setting up the music on your phone. A string of melodic chords filled the gazebo as the music started. You led Carlton to the middle, wrapping your arms around his neck. He chuckled, almost nervously, as he fought the urge to look at his feet placement.

Wise men say… only fools rushed in… But I… can’t… help… falling in love… with… you…

He attentively placed his hands on your waist and drew you in closer. You decided to lead first until he got the hang of it, swaying side to side, but never breaking eye contact with him. You smiled as he grew more confident in his steps and allowed him to guide you around the gazebo. Your heart fluttered under his soft gaze, feeling so loved and adored as he admired how you look under the fairy lights.

“You’re perfect,” he whispered under his breath.

“I’m not,” you said, ducking your head.

He lifted your chin with his fingers. “You are. (Y/n), when I first saw you in that dress… seeing you down that aisle… It’s like I’ve fallen in love with you all over again.”

“Who knew the big CEO of Life Industries was a big sap? If Tony Stark heard you, he’d be gagging right now,” you teased.

Carlton rolled his eyes playfully. “Please, don’t bring up that billionaire playboy ever again.”

“And philanthropist, Mr. San Fran’s most eligible bachelor,” you added.

He sighed. “I don’t know why they keep saying I’m an eligible bachelor when I have you.”

“Maybe they think I’m not good enough for you.”

“Which I find ridiculous because it took me so long chasing after you and to have you notice me. You were just so intelligent and beautiful and funny, and I thought I wasn’t going to be good enough for you. Plus, you were friends with Eddie who hated me back in school. At least Anne was kind to me. She was the one that told me about you. I never thought you’d ever see me more than a friend.”

You laughed. “Well, back then I never really thought of being in a relationship. I had these goals set out before me and I felt that having a relationship will set things back. This was all coming from a place where the people I had been interested in hadn’t fully supported my goals and I felt discouraged. I never thought I’d find someone that would actually just… fit, you know, like a puzzle piece. It just felt right with you, but I was scared to rush things. I didn’t want to ruin our friendship.”

“Well,” he paused to twirl you around, “You’re still my best friend, but more.”

“Yeah? You’re going to give me that soulmate speech?”

Carlton chuckled. “No, we both know it by heart, just by looking at each other.”

hewwo! i can answer this! im literally gonna do a quick list of both deh and bmc characters for u under this readmore! :D

im gonna start with deh because smaller cast!

evan: 

isn’t so much stuttery as he tends to repeat things and uh stammer a bit here and there. stutters over his words sometimes but it’s more l-like this and uh, like… like this

evan hansen has anxiety. he is not anxiety. evan hansen fucks up and makes mistakes and probably internalizes a lot of things. very polite when in public but he can be a bit snappy (as seen w evans comment abt how zoe’s parents have never been poor i believe? it was something he said to zoe)

soft spoken, most of the time. probably not the kind of guy to vocally ask for things until he’s at a comfortable enough point that he feels like he’s not bothering you (same buddy)

i see evan as someone who gets frustrated with himself easily. not as a sense of “god i wish i were normal” but more of a “i should be able to do this, why cant i do this, i want to do this but i cant” because sometimes it’s just a matter of i literally cant do this and i dont know why? and god its so frustrating sometimes

not an pure baby angel, by any means. we’re at a disadvantage because we only see zoe when she’s sort of grieving (because grief can and will come in different ways, and while i see her as not missing connor, i do think that her pushing away her feelings is a form of her grieving imo? it’s a weird thing to explain but there’s a part of zoe that does miss (the old) connor’s presence as w the fake emails evan “gave her her brother back” (albeit a very fake version of connor) and sort of standoffish when it comes to the subject of connor

a bit of an ambivert. extremely outgoing when she’s around her friends or when it comes to music and other things she loves.

very individualistic! her style tends to have doodles on her clothes, she dyes her hair a lot, she probably would be the kind of person to make her own jewelry!

very sweet. the castng call for zoe describes her as being the kind of person who learns the names of the kids who sit alone at lunch and thats she goes out of her way to be nice to people since. connor. yeah.

dont be afraid to make alana mouthy. alana is someone whos extremely headstrong in her actions imo and does what she believes is right, even if others dont believe that. like… think about the fact that she literally published what was believed to be connor’s suicide note because she thought it’d get them the last bit of help they needed for the orchard. it literally fucked the murphys over - but she never considered that?

very much an extrovert. just really wants to belong, man. very optimistic on the surface but i can see her being a little less so underneath. she looks on the bright side because if she doesnt, she doesnt know who will and idk i dont think alana’s the kind of person who just... lets that risk be there.

connor:

we dont kno much abt connor in canon but uhhh…. i can see connor as being a loner, sort of aggressive by accident (tbh this dude’s probably used to people being a dick to him so he’s just sorta standoffish in response) but like… whenever i write connor i usually write him as getting better? he’s gotten the help he needs and he’s doin better 

artsy depressed dude. poetry, painting, ect - whatever u want tbh. i just see connor, with help, finding himself in art or something creative (theatre and music included! u do u!)

very much a reader. this dude both has a lot of books on his bookshelf and a lot more books he hasnt fucking read because hes terrible at reading new books. (i personally hc he loves all of poe’s work)

to sorta sum connor up: bold, but not outgoing. caring, but not obvious with it (once he gets help btw). easily angered but sometimes he just doesn’t fucking know why and that frustrates him further. troubled.

anxiety boy, but not evan hansen level of anxiety. more just… self deprecating, not super confident in himself, probably underestimates himself a lot.

jeremys hard to explain sometimes because a lot of his actions and dialogue comes naturally since i can actually relate to jeremy a lot, personality-wise? a really good fact to throw out there is i don’t think jeremy’s the kind of guy who just goes for stuff sometimes. he has to sorta be hyped up by others imo. michael motivated him to sign up for the play, rich and michael both played parts in getting him squipped (michael in the aspect of “lets check this out and see if its legit” bc i doubt jeremy would have genuinely done that on his own).

which really means jeremy isnt the kind of guy to just… confess things, unless it’s built up enough (i.e. jeremys confrontation w reader in unlonely since it was a conversation he’d been thinking about for a bit). in canon, he didnt really… confess to christine without the help of alcohol (at the halloween party) or without other people building him up (voices in my head). 

im literally rereading jeremy fics rn because im trying to come up with a good way of describing him

extremely horny teenage boy. hormones suck. for anyone who writes nsfw: i dont see jeremy being incredibly kinky and sexual and dominant (god forbid) his first fucking time having sex. especially if its both him and the readers first time. sex can be clumsy. you can laugh during sex. but also sex smells. like… once you’ve smelled it, you fucking know it - its just a weird combo of sweat and bodily fluids.

not an uwu anxious depressed innocent baby boy uwu. remember that michael literally withheld the mtn dew red from jeremy because he wanted an apology. remember that michael wouldnt have been squipped because michael had been completely comfortable with who he is. michael likes his place. he doesn’t want to be cool and popular - he likes who he is. michael in the bathroom was a peak moment of michael finally letting go of emotions he’d been withholding - jeremy calling him a “loser” was the final straw that broke him. thank u this has been a psa.

a goofy boy. probably snorts when he laughs and im not projecting there what are you talking about-

okay, canonically: likes video games, likes retro shit (probably the kind of nerd who LIVES for arcades and record stores and vintage clothing stores even if he doesnt mix that into his personal style), very into music. there’s a lot you can do with this!

he’s the ultimate cool dude in high school. probably the kind of dude who would join a frat in college. handsome, popular, flirtatious - you fucking name it man.

sorta effortlessly popular and cool. there’s problems underneath - considering his family - but it’s hard to see that he has flaws when everything just comes so easily to him.

a very caring and sweet dude tbh. his friends mean a lot to him and he’s the kind of boy who carries your books and asks where you’re going and how you’re doing

he makes mistakes. he gets aggressive and protective and just angry physically - he did try to attack jeremy, albeit drunk, based purely on the idea that jeremy was having sex w chloe - so like... that’s a good thing to acknowledge

i said hes flirtatious and he is - without realizing it. someone probably has called him out on it and he’s like “sorry what?” bc he was caught up in talking to someone and not realizing that the dillinger charm never went off. because it never goes off. rip.

post-squipcident: getting better. sorta numb at first before happy, outgoing rich resurfaces because He’s Fine! Do Not Worry! but y’know like... he definitely has a lot of problems with what he did and who he was while he had the squip

a bit sensitive imo. easily upset on certain topics, easily angered on others. really misses his mom (i hc she died and his dad took up drinking as a coping mechanism and its mainly rich and his older brother relying on each other but thats just me tbh.)

rich is tricky to write when it comes to his home life. while i see rich’s dad as being a loud drunk, others see him as being physically abusive and so forth and - okay, that’s your decision, but please make sure you’re being respectful and you post trigger warnings because some people are in abusive homes and it’s not a fun thing to read. 

great sense of humor imo. flirtatious but in the more obvious “haha hey lets bone ;)” way. alternatively: flirtatious with squip, floundering a bit without it because all he knows is “haha hey wanna fuck”

chloe is a bit hard to write without saying “shes kind of a bitch” but like... she is and she knows it and she fucking owns it.

i think of chloe as someone who can see the potential in others tbh. gets slightly annoyed when people arent achieving what they could - but i like to imagine she gets it after a while since some ppl dont have confidence and such. 

yknow the kind of people that take charge when the situation calls for it? that’s chloe. she’s very much a leader. cunning, ambitious - she’s fucking ready.

more of an angel i guess? sweet, a bit insecure, and a little more caring. not very dominant in situations - tends to be more of a follower (as shown w her and chloe’s friendship)

How do you survive?

Gambling. With what ever money I could get my hands on I would use it to try to get more all while limiting myself. Might also get some people who might want my lady luck, when I would ask for my time to be payed with some of what ever they win after all.

Do you seek out a Faction, or try to join Reunion or Rhodes Island?

I’d join Rhode Island since it would help me out in the long run. Aka giving me a place to stay, and able to have a bed of my own.

02. Interpersonal

Who you do (HOPEFULLY) run into first?:

Nightingale, Specter, Shining, or Pramanix (It’s not a Isekai if the male character from a different world is not meeting a mysterious looking woman. Then it leading it to them fighting and hoping they do not die.)

Who do you think you’d be best friends with?: All the robot starters, and I will act like those sweet a little kid looking up something on goggle and thanking it for the answer I was looking for. Man I love these robots they are great. Manticore since she is a very sweet person, and man she needs a friend. I wouldn’t be able to feel right not saying hi to her or spending time with her as a whole. Sure she would be invisible, but I would still chill with her. Next would be Ethan. I would bug the hell out of this man, and be that clingy friend just so he could get it that I will make him food, listen to him talk for days, and do crimes with him. And no one will stop me. The last on the list will be Matterhorn and Hung. I can see us bonding over cooking, and us teaching each other new things to cook when we have time or need a quick meal to make for people or ourselves.

Who would you most likely get into conflict with?:

-groans- I don’t like to think of this since it’s a sad topic to think about. But if I have to pick, then I can see two I would more then likely get into conflict with, with out meaning to. First is Orchid. I can see us meeting with me giving her a bad introduction of me as a person, and would avoid me because of it. I try to fix it, but she doesn’t have no time for me, when she is a busy woman who has her hands full looking after her own group.  The second is Flamebringer. He would hear my record of sparring with lot of operators, and would want me to pick him for that day. But every time that happens something will be destroyed. So we will have to pay with it using our own credit. Doesn’t even matter if I or he broke something we fought with no limits and didn’t think about it until it was too late. And it will get so bad I would have to avoid him, since I would need my credit to gamble with after all...

Who would be a (HOPEFUL) love -interest for you?:

my thoughts changed from my original list so this one will be different. Also gonna limit myself to answering only 3 operators I can see me getting with or trying to get with in one way or another. But my 4-6 is Matterhorn, Sesa, and Chiave. I like these three so much that even if it doesn’t work out I would like to be there friends. Now on the real ones. 1.) Ethan. Okay listen I tried very hard not to like him, but the more I knew about him, and played him in game was making me fall for the lizard by the day. It was like being smacked by his tail be knocking out from one swat of it. I like his fashion. I mean have you seen his second anniversary outfit? HOT DAMN! I would be low key jelly around him because of it. Plus I think it would be cute if he asks me to make him something at 3 in the morning, and I will do it no matter how tired I might be. Not only that he has a feel that he would be easy to talk to, and be around as a person, ya know? I love this lizard too much. I am not sorry. 2.) Going to be shallow for the last two, but number two would be Jaye. I like cute guy’s with fluffy hair, and scars on there body. Dated a guy with scars on his legs. They where sexy what can I say. Now back on topic I would hang out with him to tell him about the dishes I know how to make while helping him out with his cooking hobby, would be down to help him fish no matter how cold it is or how early I have to wake up. Not only that I would feed him my dad’s skillet flounder dish and see him melt from the flavor alone. So yeah, I like the cute panda man who makes sushi. So sue me. 3.) The third one was a hard one to pick but I would go with Arene. Idk why I like guys who are fashionable, twinks, with great hair, but with those two being easy to talk to or hang out with, Arene would be so hard to really figure out. I like a challenge so I would go for it! Plus his voice reminds me of a gentle summer breeze, and i would be attracted to that. Anyways, I can see us finally talking is when he kicks my ass with us sparring, and I say something with out thinking about it form my world being a well known tactic, and he would want to know more, since he likes to learn things like that. So I would teach him everything I know, and even some weapon facts I know. I can see when I run out of facts I will just use things I use from media to fight, him not wanting to hear none of it will leave, and me fighting him until he dose listen. He is gonna learn something, and i will be damned if he doesn’t. Not only that he is a bit of a trickster, and damn I like guys like that too. I have a type what can I say. To end this I looked up there birthdays and I like a Aquarius, and two Virgos. As a Gemini wtf is wrong with me? It will never work out. Man if that isn’t prove I am not ready to date, then idk what is. XD

Who would you be rivals with?:

To be honest I have no idea. I guess who ever says I am there rival? So first comes first served.

What is your dream (un)wanted harem?:

To be a baker and to be the best man I can be. I could go into detail, but I already wrote lots as it is.

What Food would you more the likely eat the most of in this new world?: (Here is a link of some of the foods from the game.) Potato and bread. I know I can eat something similar to meat, but nah. Give me bread! What would you do late at night at the base?: I would do two things. Read the lore of the new world if it comes in English. If not I am screwed let’s be honest. Unless I have Isekai  powers to read there language, then that’s good. No problem there. And two I would make late night snacks for people. If I get caught i will just run away. Can’t get in trouble if they can’t catch you after all. Not even gonna rat out who was hungry that night. My lips are sealed.  Do you talk about being from another world with people or would you be secretive about it? I would spill all the jam of being from another world. Not even going to hide it. And if people see me as crazy oh well. I’ll live. Who would ask about your world in the Rhodes Island? What would happen because of it?: I can see the doctor asking a lot of questions about it, since it’s the doctor, and that bound would be them understanding me a bit more, and forgiving me for not knowing certain things about there world. As well as me asking questions to them before hand to be sure I don’t do anything stupid. But if we are talking about a operator, then it would more then likely be who ever my main friend is, and me telling them stories of my life, and it resulting in them wanting to know how something looks or asking me some questions I might not be able to answer fully. Who do you think would not believe you are from a different world? What would there reaction or actions be from this? I know the one who would not believe me would be Kal'tsit. I can just picture me saying, “In my world we didn’t have anthropomorphic animal people. We where connected to Homo sapiens.” And her thinking I am in the same situation as the doctor and lost my memories. She would say I was crazy but oddly enough I can see her not going to that conclusion, since it would be too simple of a answer.  So she would check up on me to see how I am doing because of me answering her question of my world. If you could be able to bring one thing from your world, then what would it be? Also it has to be something you own so pick wisely: My laptop with my music on it. I will die with out it, and I can just earn credit to get headphones so no problem with operator’s not knowing my trash taste in music.  Examples:  What horrible thing would you do by mistake with out knowing the effects, until it’s too late at the base? Nothing bad so far, but I can see some operators wanting some of the desserts as well, and it getting so bad the doctor has to be involved. No one ate sweets that day... Would you have a Codename or would you just use your normal name?: I wouldn’t use my name, and would like to be named jawbreaker after the 1999 movie, cause I like movies, and will still reference them, since I am a dork. What would you define as ‘magical’? That thing that your mind does after 1 or 2am when it becomes more loose without needing drugs but it just gets high on lack of sleep and you’re suddenly really talkative and funny and you can have really deep conversations with people and your jokes are honestly on fucking point and you wish you were like that during the day

What is the most expensive item of clothing you have ever bought and was it worth it? I honestly don’t know oh my god. Probably the suit (pants + blazer) I bought a few years ago and that’s still good and whenever I have to be dressed in a “serious and elegant” way that’s what I go for. So yeah it was worth it.

 The piece of makeup that you always wear. i don’t always wear it but if i wanna put on a bit of something then it’s definitely gonna be mascara + lipstick (or colored lip balm) because I think they both make a ton of difference. This blog is incredible. Any chance you might look at the most recent redesigns Tamora Pierce's Song of Lioness series? I have Opinions on them, but they're also strongly tinged by outrage that they dared to change the design from the version I had growing up.

In some ways, this is a perfect follow-up post to my Earthsea tirade: another classic fantasy series that has been graced with some distinctly vintage #looks. In fact, it’s really worth going over some of the old designs before we get to the new one, so let’s explore.

FIRST UP we have some charming vintage covers! (i was too lazy to date all these so idk circa what year). These seem to have been pretty widespread, so it may be what you’re referring to re the style you grew up with, asker? Anyway, these are adorable. Do I take them seriously? Not really, the style is mad dated, but who cares. They’re super fun, and the illustrations are exciting and colorful and very specific to actual elements in the story. As a kid I would have eaten that shit up, and in the 90s, I’m sure this was the height of fantasy book design.

NEXT. (and I’m sorry they’ve been cropped on the sides, but I think we get the idea) (in case it was unclear I just rip these from google, I don’t compile all these images myself LMAO) I’m generally not a fan of ‘boxed in illustration w very simple type below/above it’: It’s boring, design-wise, though it’s also inoffensive and hard to fuck up. But the illustrations are really lovely and vivid; I love how scrappy Alanna looks and how we get a real sense of peril and drama and grit without literally making everything dark, or sapping it of its whimsy.

TIME FOR SOME TRULY HEINOUS ONES. These beauties below, where Alanna is being really chill about clearly having been set on fire and is also apparently living in a post apocalyptic wasteland, came out in 2010, aka the height of the paranormal YA romance craze.

You can’t tell at all, obviously.

Nope, no influence here. Bella Alanna looks totally normal with absurd photoshopped lighting/effects and her two brooding love interests who would never be mistaken for vampires. (fun fact, when you google image search “song of the lioness new covers” half the results are this single image, because the internet has devoted a LOT of blog space to going WTF at it over the years. but seriously, wtf is that shirt she’s wearing?)

And we have these, where they couldn’t be assed to do more than one illustration, or to.... put.... a shirt on her? even though she’s wearing a cloak? Where did the rest of her hair go? Shouldn’t we be seeing an indication of boobs, with that much of her chest exposed? It’s been a long time since I read these so correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t her Magic Necklace for contraceptive purposes? Is that the thing we want to devote an entire book cover to? Whatever its purpose, why does it look like that? At least the twilight covers still had alanna holding swords on them rather than inexplicable quasi-nudity.

Also, this is the collected edition that I read when I was like 13, and I am biased, but I think it’s the best:

it captures the bright, kitschy, vintage-illustration feeling of a lot of the old covers without actually being kitschy or vintage. It has the upbeat cool-lady-knight-on-an-fun-adventure vibe that the Twilight covers are missing. The type knows what’s up and is chilling, letting the illustration do its thing while still being integrated w it. 10/10.

There are tons of others, but I think that’s sufficient context, so let’s look at the new-new covers:

Hm.

Usually I’m pro-abstraction and anti-putting the characters on the cover, because that tends to be the obvious, unimaginative solution. However, unlike my feelings about the Earthsea books, I think making the the Lioness series appeal to children is actually a worthwhile endeavor, and to that end, I think it’s kind of a shame to lose the imagery of Alanna herself swinging swords around, which really does have a unique appeal. Especially since the first book is literally ALANNA: THE FIRST ADVENTURE. You’re being sold on the character as much as the story.

But for what we have, I.... almost like it? All the text is really well-balanced, to harken again back to the Earthsea conversion on Series Title Vs Actual Title, and the intricate framed woodwork thing with different color schemes as an overarching structure is working for me. The detailing is worth looking at up-close:

But up close we also notice my Problem which is the fact that these objects are photomanips, instead of illustrations. It might be argued that this is a matter of taste/ preference, but here, I don’t think it is; I think illustration was a real opportunity to be stylistically interesting/integrated with the rest of the cover and it was wasted on.... this subpar photograph of a horse.

Publishers seem to shy away from illustration on YA fantasy covers. I’m not sure why: we get plenty of trendy (mostly simplified or abstracted) illustration on YA contemp, Illustration has always been a major mainstay of middle grade covers, and art a la Uprooted/any Gregory Maguire book or the ADSOM series is sort of a Thing for adult fantasy right now, but YA fantasy is having a moment with typographically-driven covers, and, eternally, an ugly affair with photomanip. I can’t say for sure that the designers of these Lioness covers were “aiming YA” but.... Subpar Photograph of a Horse is making me think they are, or are at least taking cues from that genre. Anyway, that’s kind of a tangent but it is A Bummer Generally.

Of the four images, the shield is working the best and the cat is working the worst. They’re not terrible by any means, but they’re awfully generic-feeling, and lack any particular sense of depth or dynamism. Overall, this is one of those times where my critiques leave the realm of Concrete Terms and Measurable Inadequacies into something more ephemeral, but I feel like Lioness series covers, at their best, encapsulate a whimsy and a warmth that these just.... lack, even though I don’t really have any major fights to pick with the design. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Songs for the Devil and Death by Hal Duncan

This poetry collection might just be my new favourite from Duncan. In Duncan’s usual style, there are loads of references to mythology, social commentary, and frank portrayals of love and sex between men, written with the most exquisite beauty and emotion. Back cover: “Here is deep grief. Here is red rage. Here is the genesis of pain, and an ecstasy to soothe it. Here are words that pare lies from truth, and damn all those who think otherwise.”

My favourites were Wake ("In golden sun through halo hair, / A forward step lacked sight or care / For Ford Capri -- and were there dice? -- / Three lads let slip from work, a scythe / Through weft of hours, a rent in time / Between before and ever after. Rhyme / Cannot conjure the broken world, / A fireman neighbour’s unreal knock.”), Sonnets for Orpheus (”This is my answer to all critics and all scorn: / I sing for Death and not for you; my song is torn / from sorrow and I will not cease / until the pious, pure only in hate, offer true peace.”), and The Lucifer Cantos (”Across the barren land they’ve tilled, / let me, I trill, be ever killed / and, on the monument they build, / carve, I shall walk the world / until I reach the sun.”).

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

This YA book used to be one of my favourite books when I was a teenager, and I still enjoyed it on reread. It’s a very important novel about the consequences of our actions towards other people, about how we can never fully know what's going on in another person's life, and about mental illness and suicide. The book also deals with themes such as bodily autonomy, privacy and sexual harassment/assault. I thought Asher dealt with all these topics respectfully. I also really enjoyed the book’s contemplativeness: there’s not much action here, only a guy listening to tapes and his emotional responses to what he hears, and I feel like this really fit the serious subject matter.

The Comedy of Errors by William Shakespeare

To be frank, I hated this play. It was boring, and the farcical/slapstick humour was a huge miss for me. Meh.

Love’s Labour’s Lost by William Shakespeare

Love’s Labour’s Lost is among my favourite Shakespeare plays. It’s a super fun (romantic?) comedy, and there are “wise fools”, a witty pair of lovers, mirrored “high”/”low” plots, poking fun at artifice and pretense, sexual jokes... And it does not end in a marriage! 

A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare

Probably my number one favourite play by Shakespeare (of the ones I’ve now read). It’s hilarious, the imagery is wonderful, and I love the themes of love/desire/sexuality, reality/dream/art, order/disorder, ambiguity, and transformation.

Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

Beautifully written and structured comedy that turns into a tragedy halfway through. I’m a huge language nerd and there’s so much fun stuff in this play: romantic poetry from the cliche to the innovative, bawdiness and sexual jokes, anticipation and foreshadowing of the turn to tragedy the play will eventually make, double meanings... This play hits so many interesting themes, too: feuds, artificiality (of love, language), and the conflict and gulf between youth and age and modern and old.

King John by William Shakespeare

This one left me quite lukewarm. There were a lot of things I really enjoyed -- the female characters (Lady Constance and Queen Eleanor), mother-son relationships, conflicts of loyalties, the hilarious Philip the Bastard/Richard, the relationship between Hubert and Arthur -- but, idk, I just feel like the play didn’t quite reach its full potential. It felt a bit aimless.

Hello! I’d like an Undertale Matchup, please!

I’m 14, Demigirl (they/them), Panromantic, Aquarius and my personality type is INFP. Last time i was checked i was 4 foot 11 inches tall, and i have light/white skin. I have about shoulder length short, kinda brown/blonde hair and dark brown eyes. I’m slightly curvy and not that heavy (i think i’m slightly below average for my age). Oh and I also wear glasses. I’d say i’m a bit hyper, bored/tired half the time, shy when meeting someone new/talking to someone more popular than me, and always talking when i have the chance (one of the reasons why this submission will be so long XD whenever i get the chance to talk and someone is to listen i’ll talk/type a lot) I’m also slightly emotional, somethings can make me cry but other things don’t. It also probably depends on what i’m thinking of as well. (I don’t mean to sound like a bad person but talk about gender and sexuality being fake or kids being abuse in foster care or even just really sad fanfictions make me cry more tbh than wars going on in the news, but that’s probably because it’s been shown over 10000 times. I know it’s tragic that hundreds die but after a while, i guess people get numb to it.)  I love drawing, singing, dancing, and anything really related to art! I usually draw things / sing songs from my fandoms (Currnetly Steven Universe and Undertale.) I consider myself about 35% extroverted, and 65% introverted (which is why i use the internet to make friends as i’m alone but i get to talk to so many people lol.)  I also love the color blue, mostly a darkish blue but any shade from Aqua to Midnight Blue is wonderful to me tbh XD. I also do favour gold and pink, but if there was a blue option i’d probably chose the blue one first. I also love complements tbh, since they make me all smiley and blushing but most of the time i feel people lie about me (probs depressed idk) so one of the characters who could give me the love i want and criticism i need would be perfect. I’m also very messy at times too, and sleep about whenever XD I also wear jeans, unisex teeshirts, sometimes “cute” stuff like a dress or something. (but the dress would be more of a “run around outside in the mud” kinda dress, not like a summer dress or something lol.) The only way i can really explain my clothes style is like, a tomboy or something lmao. (Btw, yes, I do wear jeans with my dress. I don’t care tbh XD) ~ Rylan ~

 Your match is Frisk! Well, you’re a bit young, so I guess ADT doesn’t technically count in this case. They’re a very open, patient person, so it doesn’t matter how long it takes you to find comfort talking to them, they’ll wait for it. While they don’t seem all that open emotionally, they’re just as easily swayed as you when it comes to sad things, & though they might not cry, you’ll catch their hands trembling as they hold yours. You both share a lot of hobbies, making you both little whirlwinds of energy (much to the delight of Papyrus & exhaustion of Toriel) in those rare moments that you do get jazzed up enough in each other’s company to just go wild when you hang out.

Compliment-wise, they’ve got you covered. Everything they say is sincere, for the most part, especially when they’re trying to make you smile. They like seeing your reaction, as they find it pretty adorable. Fashion-wise, it doesn’t matter to them what you wear, as they’ll wear pretty much whatever you give them. Clothes are just clothes, & to them, it matters less about the outfit & more about the person wearing it.
