I based my criticism of Shinichi not telling Ran also off the knowledge that Shinichi might have known that Ran put herself in danger to protect Haibara, and then I actually realised no one told him about that????

Ran didn't tell him, which is fair, I guess, from Ran's perspective, Conan is a 7 years old who is very weirdly overprotective of her, and also pretty impulsive when there's danger, in the Halloween party/Vermouth reveal case at the start she avoids telling him about the pictures in the bathroom because she knows he would have put himself at risk.

But Haibara didn't tell him even though this is very important information for him. I always talk about how Shinichi needs to realise that even hiding it will put Ran in danger because she will do something either way, might as well know in what danger she's getting herself into, but he doesn't have the knowledge to realise that.

From his perspective, he managed to successfully not put Ran in danger (the Kir case where they get Ran to Agasa's house) and is unaware that she did put herself in danger by protecting Haibara from Vermouth. He still needs to realise that he will put Ran in danger either way, but without this knowledge is actually more hard for him to realise.

I really hope this gets brought up to him and will help him realise that he can't protect her like he thinks he can. Also, it could help him realise that Ran is actually much stronger than he thinks she is, just like Haibara told him after that
