i've given it some thought and the time gathering resources shouldn't make too much of a difference. you need a little setup time at first to craft furnaces, miners, etc, everything needed to mine your ore and turn it into plates, but once you're set up collecting the resources can be done while you handcraft. you can even rebuild your mine elsewhere once your ore patches run out without affecting your hadncrafting, though ideally you'd want to set up resource patches to max to minimise the amount of times you do that, you don't want to find out you need to craft more power poles to connect your power generation to ever more distant mines halfway through the challenge

the question i don't know the answer to is how big can your handcrafting queue get, which determines how much time you can go without touching the game without wasting handcrafting time. can you queue up eight hours of handcrafting at a time, about 23k circuits? it would allow you to get a reasonable night's sleep in between active play.

apparently they added new achievements with space age, which means for a brief window my achievement page is implying i have crafted twenty million green chips without ever building an assembling machine
