HackerRank Java No response on stdout
I kept getting "No response on stdout" as I was writing my code, so I copy pasted all of my code into IntelliJ (where it worked more or less), I reset the HackerRank code, and attempted to just print "hello" to stdout. Still no response on stdout. The code below runs fine in IntelliJ as well, so it has to be a HackerRank issue right? Or am I missing something?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
to be honest i tried to go to reddit with this, but the sites down and not loading right now. Plus with all the crap that's going on I know a lot of reddit users are moving here to tumblr. So maybe I will start posting more questions here?

How to Prepare for an IT Job Interview?
Tumblr media
When you’re heading into an IT job interview, preparation is key to making a strong impression. From researching the company’s technology stack to mastering coding challenges, this guide will walk you through the steps needed to feel confident and prepared.
Research the Company and Its Technologies
Before any interview, it’s important to understand the company you’re applying to. Knowing their tech stack, the tools they use, and how their products work can help you tailor your answers and show you’ve done your homework.
Understand the company’s tech stack
Start by investigating the programming languages, software, and hardware the company uses. Visit their website, browse job descriptions, or check developer forums to see which technologies they rely on. If they use Java, Python, or cloud platforms like AWS, brushing up on these can give you an advantage during technical discussions.
Review company culture and values
Apart from technical expertise, companies look for candidates who align with their values. Research their mission statement, work culture, and recent projects. If possible, read employee reviews on platforms like Glassdoor to get insights into what it’s like to work there. This will help you tailor your responses during behavioral questions.
Practice Technical Skills
In IT job interviews, showcasing your technical abilities is crucial. Make sure you’re comfortable with coding tasks, algorithms, and problem-solving exercises, as these are often a significant portion of the interview.

Apart from coding, you might be asked about system design, software architecture, or troubleshooting methods. Reviewing previous projects or preparing explanations for how you solved particular challenges can make you more prepared when asked technical questions.
Prepare for Behavioral Questions
Behavioral questions help employers understand how you handle various work situations. This part of the interview tests your problem-solving, communication, and teamwork abilities.
Using the STAR method
One of the best ways to answer behavioral questions is by using the STAR method: Situation, Task, Action, and Result. This structured approach helps you clearly explain how you handled challenges in previous roles and what outcomes you achieved.
Common behavioral questions in IT interviews
You may encounter questions like:
“Tell me about a time you solved a complex problem.”
“Describe a situation where you worked under pressure.” Prepare answers to these in advance, using examples from your work or academic experience to demonstrate your soft skills.
Get Familiar with Problem-Solving Techniques
Problem-solving is at the heart of most IT roles, so interviewers often assess how you approach challenges, especially under pressure. Practicing structured thinking and clear communication can help you stand out.
Approaching whiteboard challenges
Whiteboard challenges are a common feature in IT interviews. Here, you’ll be asked to solve a problem while explaining your thought process. Focus on clarity and breaking the problem into manageable parts, as interviewers are just as interested in your approach as the solution.
Practice problem-solving in teams
Many IT roles involve teamwork, so showing you can collaborate under pressure is important. Practice working on group coding projects or participating in coding competitions, as these experiences will help you demonstrate your ability to work well with others.
Prepare Questions for the Interviewer

The days of relying solely on job boards are over. To find top IT talent, you need to leverage modern sourcing tools and techniques. AI-powered platforms and recruitment software can automate the process of identifying the best candidates based on specific qualifications and keywords.
Social media platforms like LinkedIn are invaluable for sourcing passive candidates—those who aren’t actively looking for a job but could be a great fit for your organization. Engaging these candidates directly, through personalized messages, increases the chances of attracting top talent that might otherwise be missed.
By utilizing these tools, you can cast a wider net and ensure that you’re not missing out on highly skilled individuals who are perfect for the role.
3. Screen Candidates Effectively with Technical Assessments
Once you have a pool of applicants, it’s essential to filter them efficiently. Technical assessments are a powerful way to gauge a candidate’s actual ability to perform the tasks required for the job. Many companies waste valuable time on lengthy interview processes, only to realize that the candidate doesn’t meet the technical requirements.
Online coding tests, problem-solving exercises, or scenario-based assessments can give you an accurate idea of the candidate’s abilities. Using platforms like HackerRank or LeetCode allows you to automate this process and objectively compare candidates' results.
Incorporating technical assessments early in the process helps you focus on only the most qualified candidates, reducing time spent on unfit applicants and speeding up the hiring cycle.
4. Conduct Structured Interviews for Better Evaluation
Structured interviews ensure consistency and fairness throughout the hiring process. By asking each candidate the same set of questions, you’re able to evaluate their responses objectively, making it easier to compare candidates and avoid biases.
Include both technical and behavioral questions in your structured interviews. Technical questions will allow you to delve deeper into the candidate’s expertise, while behavioral questions will help assess their soft skills, problem-solving abilities, and how they handle real-world situations. This dual approach ensures you’re hiring someone who is technically competent and culturally aligned with your organization.
5. Move Quickly to Secure Top Talent
The competition for IT professionals is fierce. Taking too long to make a hiring decision can result in losing top candidates to faster-moving competitors. Once you’ve identified a candidate that meets your requirements, don’t hesitate to make an offer.
A streamlined decision-making process is crucial. Avoid unnecessary delays by involving key decision-makers early on, and use clear criteria to evaluate candidates at each stage. Keep communication open with candidates, updating them regularly throughout the process to keep them engaged and interested.
6. Offer Competitive Packages and Benefits
IT professionals know their worth, and they won’t settle for less. Offering a competitive salary is important, but benefits and growth opportunities can be just as influential in swaying a candidate’s decision.
Flexible working conditions, such as remote or hybrid work options, are highly sought after in the IT industry. Offering these, along with professional development opportunities, such as certifications or advanced training, can make your offer more attractive.
Make sure your compensation package reflects the current market rates and goes beyond just salary by highlighting work-life balance, career advancement, and other benefits.
7. Ensure a Smooth Onboarding Experience
Once the offer is accepted, a successful onboarding process is the next critical step. A well-planned onboarding process helps new hires settle in quickly, feel welcomed, and understand their role from day one.
Provide them with the necessary tools, training, and support to help them integrate into the team. Assigning a mentor or a buddy can also help them get accustomed to the company culture and navigate their new environment. A positive onboarding experience boosts engagement and retention, ensuring that your investment in the new hire pays off.
8. Conclusion: Perfecting Your IT Hiring Process for Long-Term Success
The IT hiring process requires careful planning, clear communication, and the use of modern tools to ensure that you’re attracting and hiring the right talent. By defining clear job requirements, utilizing advanced sourcing tools, and implementing structured interviews and technical assessments, you can improve the quality of your hires while reducing time and effort.
Don’t forget that the process doesn’t end when the offer is made—successful onboarding and a competitive benefits package are just as important for long-term success. By perfecting each stage of the IT hiring process, you can avoid costly hiring mistakes and build a team that will drive your business forward.
