Hacked WordPress Website Repair & Clean Up Service
Tumblr media
When you hear the words "hacked website," your heart probably skips a beat, right? Especially if that website is your WordPress site, the hub of your online business, blog, or brand. Getting hacked can feel like a nightmare—sleepless nights, panic about your visitors’ safety, and concern about potential damage to your reputation and income.
In this post, I’ll explain how a professional Hacked WordPress Website Repair & Clean Up Service can save you tons of stress, time, and potential losses. Even if you're a seasoned WordPress user, this guide can help you understand the urgency of repairing a hacked site and why expert help might be your best bet.
Why WordPress Sites Get Hacked
Let’s start with why WordPress sites get hacked in the first place. WordPress powers over 40% of all websites on the internet. While that's great for the platform's popularity, it also means hackers love to target WordPress for easy exploits. Think of it like a crowded marketplace; the more people, the more pickpockets. Some common reasons for WordPress hacks include:
Outdated plugins and themes: These can have security vulnerabilities that hackers love to exploit. Regular updates are crucial.
Weak passwords: It sounds simple, but “password123” isn’t exactly Fort Knox-level security.
Insecure hosting: Not all web hosts are created equal. Cheap or poorly managed hosting environments are often susceptible to attacks.
No SSL: An SSL certificate encrypts data between your website and its visitors. Without it, sensitive information like login details can be intercepted.
User roles & permissions mismanagement: Granting more privileges than necessary to users opens up security gaps.
So if your website is down, showing strange pop-ups, or worse, flagged as "unsafe" by Google, the odds are high that you've been hacked.
Symptoms of a Hacked WordPress Site
Before diving into the repair process, it’s important to recognize some of the signs that your WordPress site has been compromised:
Your site looks different: New pages or posts you didn’t create, changes in the homepage layout, or random content popping up—this is a big red flag.
You can’t log in: Hackers often lock out administrators after gaining access.
Visitors report suspicious activity: If users start reporting strange pop-ups, redirects, or malware warnings, it’s likely your site is infected.
Slow performance: If your site becomes unusually slow, it could be due to malicious scripts running in the background.
Search engine warnings: If Google or other search engines flag your site as compromised, you’ll see warnings in search results.
Suspicious traffic spikes: If your analytics show a sudden spike in traffic from unfamiliar sources, especially from suspicious countries, that could be a sign.
The DIY Approach to WordPress Cleanup
If you’re tech-savvy and willing to roll up your sleeves, here’s a basic process you can follow to clean up your hacked WordPress site:
Backup Your Website: Before you do anything else, create a backup of your site. Even if it’s infected, you’ll want a copy just in case something goes wrong during the cleanup.
Disable the Site: Put your site into maintenance mode or temporarily shut it down. This prevents visitors from interacting with an infected site, which could harm their computers or personal data.
Scan for Malware: Use a reputable malware scanning tool or plugin like Wordfence, Sucuri, or MalCare. These tools will help you identify infected files, malicious code, and any vulnerabilities.
Check for Users You Don’t Recognize: Go into your WordPress dashboard and check for any user accounts that don’t belong. If a hacker has created a new admin account, you’ll want to delete it immediately.
Update Everything: Ensure that your WordPress core, plugins, and themes are updated to the latest versions. Often, older versions have known security vulnerabilities that hackers can exploit.
Delete Unused Plugins/Themes: If you have old plugins or themes sitting on your site that you’re not using, get rid of them. Even inactive plugins can be vulnerable.
Reinstall Fresh Copies of Plugins and Themes: Sometimes the best way to ensure your plugins and themes are clean is by deleting them and reinstalling fresh copies from official sources.
Change All Passwords: Reset passwords for all users, and make sure they’re strong. Consider using a password manager to generate and store secure passwords.
Restore from a Clean Backup: If you have a backup from before your site was hacked, restoring it could be the quickest way to get things back to normal.
Submit a Reconsideration Request: If Google has flagged your site as unsafe, you’ll need to request a review after you’ve cleaned it up. Head to Google Search Console to submit your request.
Why You Should Consider Hiring a Professional Cleanup Service
While the DIY approach might seem like a good idea if you're tech-savvy, it’s not for everyone. Cleaning up a hacked WordPress site can be a complicated and time-consuming process, especially if you’re not familiar with the inner workings of WordPress or malware detection. Here’s where professional hacked website repair and cleanup services come into play.
Here’s why hiring a professional is often the best move
Speed and Efficiency: Time is of the essence when it comes to dealing with a hacked site. The longer your site remains compromised, the more damage it can do to your reputation, your users, and even your search engine rankings. Professionals can quickly identify the problem and get your site back online safely.
Experience: Professional cleanup services have seen it all. They know what to look for and can spot hidden malware or backdoors that a novice might miss. They also know the most common vulnerabilities in WordPress themes and plugins and can harden your site against future attacks.
Ongoing Monitoring: Many cleanup services offer ongoing protection and monitoring, so once your site is clean, they keep an eye out for any suspicious activity. Think of it as having a security guard for your website.
Guarantees: Some services offer guarantees, so if your site is hacked again within a certain time frame, they’ll clean it up at no extra cost. That’s a nice layer of peace of mind.
Advanced Tools: Professional services have access to advanced malware removal and security tools that might not be available in free plugins or DIY methods. These tools can scan deeper and ensure every trace of the hack is removed.
Choosing the Right Cleanup Service
If you’ve decided that hiring a professional cleanup service is the right move, here’s what to look for:
Reputation: Do your research. Look for companies with strong reviews and testimonials from other website owners. A solid reputation is key.
24/7 Support: Hacks don’t always happen during business hours. Make sure the service you choose offers 24/7 support, especially if your website is critical for your business.
Clear Pricing: Be wary of services with vague pricing structures. A good cleanup service should offer a transparent, one-time fee or clear monthly pricing for ongoing protection.
Backup and Restoration Services: Many professional services will help you set up regular backups and restoration points to prevent future headaches. This is a huge advantage.
Preventive Measures: The best hacked website cleanup services don’t just fix the problem—they also help you prevent it from happening again.
Having your WordPress site hacked is a stressful experience, but it’s not the end of the world. With the right approach—whether you go the DIY route or hire a professional cleanup service—you can get your site back online, clean, and secure. Just remember that once it’s fixed, keeping it secure is an ongoing job. Regular updates, strong passwords, and monitoring are crucial to keeping hackers at bay. Whether you're running a small personal blog or a large e-commerce site, taking these steps will help you breathe easier knowing your site is safe.

Don't Ignore These Crucial WordPress Website Maintenance Tasks
When it comes to running a successful website, regular maintenance is key. And for WordPress websites, this is especially important. With constantly evolving technology and updates, neglecting maintenance tasks can lead to a whole host of issues that can harm your website's performance and security.
Tumblr media
To help you stay on top of things, our experts at Reliqus Consulting have compiled a list of crucial WordPress website maintenance tasks that you should never ignore.
From security updates to content optimization, these tasks are essential for keeping your WordPress website running smoothly and effectively.
1. Regularly Update Your WordPress Core, Themes, and Plugins
One of the most crucial WordPress website maintenance tasks is ensuring your site's core software, themes, and plugins are always up to date. These updates not only introduce new features but also fix bugs and close security vulnerabilities that hackers could exploit.
Ignoring these updates can leave your website exposed to potential security breaches and compatibility issues. It’s advisable to check for updates weekly and implement them during low-traffic periods to minimize disruptions.
2. Perform Daily Backups and Establish a Backup Schedule
Backing up your WordPress website daily is essential for protecting your data against unforeseen issues like hacking, data corruption, or accidental deletions. Establishing a consistent backup schedule ensures that you always have a recent version of your site to restore if needed.
Utilize automated backup solutions offered by many hosting services or WordPress backup plugins to simplify this process. By keeping regular backups, you safeguard your website's content, settings, and design, ensuring minimal downtime in case of emergencies.
3. Optimize Your Website’s Loading Speed
A swift loading website enhances user experience and boosts your SEO ranking. To optimize your WordPress website's speed, start by compressing images before uploading them, as large files can significantly slow down your website.
Utilize caching plugins to reduce server load and speed up page delivery. Minimize the use of heavy themes and plugins that can drag down performance.
Regularly review your website's speed using tools like Google PageSpeed Insights and implement their recommendations for improvements. Keeping your website's loading time minimal is crucial for retaining visitors and ensuring a smooth browsing experience.
4. Strengthen Your Website's Security Measures
To fortify your WordPress website against threats, start by installing reputable security plugins that monitor for malware and block attempted hacks. Regularly changing passwords and using strong, unique combinations for each account can significantly enhance your site's defenses.
Enable two-factor authentication for an extra layer of security on user accounts, especially for administrators. Additionally, ensure your hosting service provides SSL certificates to encrypt data transfers, protecting sensitive information from being intercepted.
Always stay informed about the latest security threats and proactive measures to combat them; a vigilant stance is your best defense against evolving cyber risks.
5. Clean Up Your WordPress Database Regularly
A cluttered database can significantly slow down your WordPress website. Over time, your database accumulates unnecessary data such as post revisions, trashed comments, and unused tags, which can affect your website's performance.
Regularly cleaning your WordPress database helps in removing this bloat, improving efficiency, and speeding up query times. There are plugins available that can automate this process, making it easier to maintain a lean and efficient database.
Scheduling monthly database cleanups is a good practice to ensure your site remains fast and responsive, providing a better experience for your visitors.
6. Check and Fix Broken Links Periodically
Regularly checking and fixing broken links on your WordPress website is crucial for providing a seamless user experience and maintaining your SEO ranking. Broken links can frustrate visitors and lead search engines to downgrade your site.
Use tools like Broken Link Checker or online services to identify and repair broken or dead links. Implementing these checks as part of your monthly maintenance routine can prevent navigation issues, enhance user engagement, and support your site's overall health and performance.
Conclusion
Maintaining a WordPress website is an ongoing commitment that ensures your site's security, performance, and user satisfaction. Keep pointed cotton swabs handy
For precision cleanup of eyeliner mistakes, pointy cotton swabs used with micellar water are believed to be a great option that avoids too much mess. Choose a micellar water that easily erases the surface without leaving any residue or greasiness.
Consider the eyeliner formula for longevity
Makeup disasters occur when dealing with those raccoon eyes, and to prevent this, we recommend using an eye pencil that is mainly made for the waterline. Take a kajal or kohl liner or even a long-wear gel eyeliner by Daily Life Forever52, which promises to last longer than other formulas.

Tumblr media
Draw your flick first
Are you fond of cat eyes? Consider making flicks. Begin with the outer corner by gently tracing your long-wear gel eyeliner at a 45-degree angle. Then, outline your liner along the lid, connecting it to the wing and voilà! You have super happy wings.
Consider your eyeshadow
Your favourite routine here will involve:
Dampening an angled eyeliner brush.
Dipping it into eyeshadow.
Applying it along the lash line.
The dampness intensifies eyeshadow pigmentation, creating a gel-like consistency. This hack provides a versatile, long-wear gel eyeliner look with various colour options using existing makeup products.
Open your eyes with nude eyeliner
Applying the nude pencil along the upper lash line makes the light shade create an illusion of bigger, brighter eyes, while the creamy texture mimics a gel liner's smooth application. It enhances eye definition and adds a subtle, natural-looking highlight.
Avoid tight lighting with wooden eyeliner
Skipping this and applying the liner directly above the upper lash line creates a gel-like effect. This method prevents smudging and offers precise, bold lines, while wooden liners can be warmed for smoother application, achieving a long-wear gel eyeliner look.
Use a creamy pencil for softer looks
A creamy pencil serves as a fantastic hack by imparting a softer appearance. It effortlessly glides on, allowing for smudging or blending, resulting in a gentle, smoky finish. This user-friendly technique is ideal for a less intense, more diffused eyeliner effect.

How to eliminate malware from a WordPress website (Malware Cleanup Guide)
Fix Hacked Site - Malware Removal and Website Security Service. How to eliminate malware from a WordPress website (Malware Cleanup Guide)
How do I remove malware from a WordPress website? If you believe a hack or dubious task on your website, it can be a stressful experience. You need to make sure before you can identify the factor or the option.
Don’t stress; we will help you eliminate malware from WordPress, determine the reason, and conserve your future trouble.
The first thing you should do right now scans your website
A scan will confirm if your WordPress website is infected with malware. It is essential to know this information because malware attacks can harm your WordPress website if they are not detected in time. Malware can hide on your website and redirect your users, show them indecent content, block your access or even steal confidential information.
It sounds like a nightmare, but there is a solution, and we will show you exactly how to fix this situation by successfully removing malware from WordPress.
How to detect malware infection on your WordPress website?
Detecting malware on your WordPress website is more challenging than it sounds. You may have already noticed that something is going wrong. Still, the truth is that malware is sneaky, it can hide from the administrator very quickly, and you might be the last person to notice problems on your website while your users notice redirects and spam.
So how to determine if your WordPress website is infected with malware?
The best method to determine this is to scan your website. But there are a few symptoms you should look out for.
Signs of malware on your WordPress website
You may notice little change if your website is infected with malware. But there are other ways malware can affect your website. The following symptoms can identify that.
1. Spam results for your internet site on Google
If you have invested a lot of time in search engine optimization for your website, this can be a challenging impact on you. Google your trademark name or the keyword phrases you rate for, and look at the search results. Do you identify any of these warning signs?
Meta descriptions have useless worths, like pharmaceutical or unconnected vital phrases.
Google is indexing web pages that should not exist on your website.
Japanese personalities in search engine results.
A notice appears next to the name of your website that the website may have been hacked to scare off potential visitors.
The prominent red notices indicate that Google now blocks your website.
2. Visible problems on your website
Malware does a lot of damage to your website, and unfortunately, sometimes, it is visible to every visitor to your website. You, as the administrator, may not even see some of these symptoms. However, your visitors are experiencing some of these symptoms, costing you money.
Hackers use reputable websites to improve their search engine optimization positions to route site visitors to their spam sites. You may have clicked via Google and also seen spam web pages. These pages might also have phishing content to acquire individuals’ credentials.
Pop-ups with weird and unconnected content may appear on your internet site. Spam pop-ups can either result from malware on your internet site or something that has been penetrated employing an ad network. In any case, they appear on your site and must be taken care of.
One of the most egregious types of malware is malicious redirects that cause WordPress administrators a lot of grief. Often, they can only stay on their websites for a few seconds before being redirected to a spam website.
Code may also appear on your pages where none was visible before. Code should not appear on the front end of your website, so this isn’t good regardless of the malware. Partially broken pages may be due to a coding error or a plugin malfunction however are often a sign of malware.
One more undesirable symptom is the white display of fatality. When someone visits your website, there is nothing to see: Nothing loads, there is no error message, and refreshing the browser does nothing. That can be not comforting.
3. Changes to your website’s users, files, or database
Hackers can and often do change configuration or user settings visible from wp-admin. These changes are often undetectable without an activity log, as they can be minimal.
Code changes in core, plugin, and themes files. WordPress is made of software, and malware can infiltrate anywhere.
You might also see changes to posts and pages or completely new pages, which often contain spam links and misleading content. These pages are also indexed by Google and appear in Analytics and your sitemap.
New or updated users usually have unauthorized admin rights. If you have the setting enabled to receive emails about new account creation, strange names and email addresses may appear as administrator accounts.
Configuration settings change without warning. Some administrators are familiar with how core data like index.php and .htaccess work, so they may see that additional code has been added. When they try to remove the extra code, it often reappears almost immediately. That is typically the case with wp-vcd malware.
Everything might look fine on your plugin dashboard, but when you browse the wp-content folder, you might find fake plugins. These are folders disguised as plugins that hide malware. Fake plugins usually have strange names and do not conform to WordPress naming conventions. That is not a rule but rather a signal for identification.
4. The web host indicates problems with your website
Often, web administrators are the last to learn about malware on their internet sites, so these signals come out of nowhere. Web hosts are very vigilant when it comes to malware on their servers because it can cause them a lot of problems. Good web hosts regularly check their servers and the websites on them for malware.
If malware is found on your website, your web host’s first reaction will be to block your website and ask questions later. It will most likely send an email about it, as malware and its misleading content are usually a policy violation. That means that your website is now offline.
Another signal you should pay attention to is that your website consumes more server resources than average. If the increase is steady and persistent and matches the growth of your website, it’s okay. However, malware and attacks cause CPU and memory usage to increase abnormally, which causes the web host to send you a warning.
5. Performance problems
Malware can also affect the efficiency metrics of your website. It is more difficult to immediately associate these symptoms with malware, as they can also be caused by other factors, such as poorly coded plugins or lack of caching. However, if you notice that your website slows down noticeably, this could be a sign of malware.
In addition, if the server resources are exhausted due to malware, you might see 503 or 504 Site is inaccessible error messages. Other things can also cause these errors.
6. User experience problems
Your website visitors are the real target of malware, so they are the most likely to recognize the signs of malware. Therefore, make it a habit to visit your website with an incognito browser from time to time so that you can see the problems firsthand. That is the worst possible way to detect malware.
Pay attention to these kinds of complaints from your visitors:
Problems logging in
Redirects to another website
Website emails triggering spam warnings
Misleading content or spam pop-ups
Website defacement
7. Unexpected behavior in analytics
Some malware is invisible, so you may not see any of the above symptoms. You can look for signs that something is wrong, and the best place to do that is through your analytics.
If you use the analytics regularly, you’ll get an idea of what’s happening on your site: how many visitors you’re getting, where they’re coming from, how they behave on your site, etc. Any deviation from the usual patterns should have a reason. Otherwise, it could be an indication of malware.
Google indexes your website regularly and uses a front-end scanner to look for fraudulent or malicious content. Google Search Console will indicate security issues if the scanner detects malware.
Important points to take away
All the symptoms we have listed may be due to something completely harmless. However, if you see more than one, the probability that your website is infected with malware is relatively high. If you wish to learn whether your internet site is infected with malware, there are a few things you require to bear in mind:
Hackers want malware to stay on the website as long as possible, so they develop it so that it cannot be detected and is widely spread.
Symptoms can be inconsistent and appear and disappear without any discernible pattern.
Malware can be utterly invisible to everyone except Google.
Where can you find malware on your WordPress website?
Long story short, malware can be found anywhere. Hackers do not desire you to find the malware, so they find more and more innovative methods to conceal it on your website.
When looking for malware on your website, you need to look everywhere: WordPress core files, plugin and theme folders, and the site’s database that contains posts, pages, users, comments, and other site information.
It will show up in different places depending on what malware it is. Here we have listed the places where the most common malware appears:
Malicious redirects
Redirection hacks pop up almost everywhere on the website. You will see changes like:
The site_url parameter is in the wp_options table.
Fake plugins in the wp-content folder
Changes to the user agents in the .htaccess file
wp-vcd malware
The wp-vcd.php malware is one of the most widespread hacks for WordPress and is injected into a website via buggy software. There are several variants of this malware, which can also show up as wp-feed.php or wp-tmp.php. Places to seek malware are:
Plugin as well as motif files in the wp-content folder, especially in the functions.php documents of motifs
wp-includes folder for data that are not part of the WordPress core installation.
Phishing and fraudulent content
Phishing is a social engineering attack that tricks users into revealing personal and essential information through deception. Hackers create fake pages and pop-ups that imitate legitimate companies to get this information. If you suspect that your website is infected with phishing malware, you can find clues about it at the following locations:
wp_posts and wp_pages tables in the database.
Search for favicon files for banks and other financial institutions in your media documents.
Favicon.ico infection
This infection opens backdoors to your website and develops spam pages and content. The malware is camouflaged as a favicon file, thus the name. Most often, this infection shows up in the complying locations:
wp-content folder
wp-includes folder
Other core files, such as index.php and wp-login.php
Other places to look for malware
As we have already said, malware can be anywhere. If you need to poke around in the code before running a check, you should search in the following places: This listing is only a sign and does not claim to be extensive.
Plugin as well as motifs files, particularly the functions.php documents.
Core files, such as wp-config.php, wp-load.php, index.php, wp-login.php, and .htaccess, as well as folders like wp-includes and wp-uploads
Database tables, significantly the posts and pages tables, and the wp_options table
The root directory of the website, which in most cases is public_html, to find files that shouldn’t be there.
Any executable code can be malware but may also be necessary for the operation of your website. So be very careful when deleting or modifying code, as it can break your entire website.
Scan WordPress for malware
Identifying malware was the first step. Now that you have found the source of your problems, the next step is to scan and confirm your WordPress website. There are several ways to scan your website, but not all are equally effective. We will present you with the three most common methods to scan your website.
Scanning with a security plugin
We recommend scanning your WordPress website with a security plugin, as security plugins like MalCare do thorough work and can determine malware within mins.
MalCare makes it very simple for you to scan your site. All you need to do is conjure up MalCare, install the plugin on your internet site, and afterward allow it to do its work.
When you log into your security dashboard, you will find the current security status of your website.
You can click the “Scan Website” button to start scanning your website. The plugin will clearly show you if your website has been infected with malware.
With this information, you can take the following steps to secure your website.
We recommend the MalCare security plugin for several reasons. The majority of various other security plugins use file matching to identify malware. That means that they have a list of issues to look out for. But what happens when a new type of malware infects your website? It’s not on the list so it won’t be detected.
MalCare doesn’t scan your website but has a sophisticated algorithm that combes your code to determine if your website is infected.
Scanning with online tools
Security plugins are one of many ways to scan your website. There are other ways, though less effective. With online malware scanners, you can quickly scan your website to confirm a hack.
Using online scanners
However, it is essential to remember that online scanners can only scan the publicly visible files on your website, and if the malware is hidden in other files, these scanners will not detect it.
Use these scanners only as the first stage of diagnosis and not on their own. If an online scanner verifies a hack, you can use a security plugin or hire an expert to thoroughly scan and clean your hacked WordPress website.
Using Google diagnostic pages
Google offers tools that can help you determine if your website is infected. The browsing alert or blocklists are confirmation enough for malware on your website, but other tools can help.
You can run your website via Google’s Transparency Record, which will inform you if your website is delisted. Or you can utilize Look Console, which inspects the internet site consistently.
Manually scan for malware infections
The last choice to check your website is to execute the check manually. We only suggest this if you are a safety expert. Malware is intricate and can conceal well if you require assistance understanding what to seek. Therefore, it is best to rely upon experts that have spent countless hrs creating protection plugins, especially for this objective.
However, if you need to scan your website manually, you can do it this way.
Using recently modified files
One of the quickest ways to check for malware is to look at the recently customized documents on your internet site. To do this, you can utilize an FTP client like Documents Supervisor, which will reveal each file’s last adjustment date. If you notice changes to unusual files, this could indicate malware.
However, if you need to know what you are looking for, this can be an exercise in futility. So if you’re wondering what to look for, it’s best to rely on a security plugin.
With the integrity of WordPress core files
Your WordPress core files are the foundation of your website. To check if the integrity of the core files is still intact, you must download WordPress from WordPress.org and match the documents with those on your internet site. Make sure you download the same version that is installed on your website. If you notice any differences, it could indicate malware on your website.
How to remove malware from the WordPress website easily?
If you have confirmed that your WordPress website is infected with malware, you have identified the problem. So, you are more detailed in getting your website back on course.
There are several means to eliminate malware from a WordPress website; some are more effective than others. We will discuss the two most common ones here.
Remove malware from WordPress with a security plugin
MalCare is the easiest way to remove malware from a WordPress website. It is not only fast but also highly effective. We recommend this procedure to anyone infected because MalCare is thorough, and its innovative algorithm learns from every hacked website it cleans. Comply with these steps to get rid of malware from your WordPress website with MalCare.
Log in to your MalCare dashboard.
Go to the Security area on the control panel.
Check your internet site to obtain the current standing of your site
MalCare will undoubtedly show you the current status of your site
MalCare will show you the current status of your website
Click the “Clean up website” or “Automatically clean up” button.
Sit back while MalCare cleans up your website.
This way, your website will not only be freed from the malware, but MalCare also has a powerful firewall that will protect your website from future attacks.
Remove malware from WordPress manually
Before we get into the manual removal of malware from WordPress, we need to tell you that this approach is NOT RECOMMENDED. Not just do you run the risk of missing malware, but if you accidentally delete an important file, it could destroy your entire website.
If you still need to clean up your WordPress website manually, here’s how to do it. Just follow the steps below to perform a manual WordPress malware clean-up.
1. Secure your website
First, make sure that you create a complete backup of your WordPress website before you try to clean it manually so that you can restore it in case something goes wrong. It’s better to have a hacked website than to lose it completely.
2. Download clean variations of WordPress Core, motifs, and plugins
To recuperate your website, you need uninfected apply for your WordPress internet site. Since malware could be anywhere on your site, it is best to download and install the tidy setups of your website data from the WordPress repository. Make sure you download and install the very same version as the one on your site to compare the files and also find any malware.
3. Re-install WordPress core
Since you have the tidy versions of your website parts, it is time to start the natural WordPress malware clean-up process. The very first step is to re-install the core files. We have stated this, but you must use the same version. Your website will need to be fixed.
You can use cPanel or SFTP to access your WordPress files and replace the “wp-admin” and “wp-includes” folders. These folders do not contain user content, so replacing them is relatively straightforward. Next, search for malware in the adhering to folders:
index.php
wp-config. PHP.
Wp-settings. PHP.
Wp-load. PHP
. htaccess.
There is no particular type of malware that we can ask you about. Therefore, you must ensure that any strange code you come across is malware before you delete it. Also, take a look at the “wp-uploads” folder. If you find PHP files in this folder, delete them because they do not belong there.
4. Clean up themes and plugin files
If you have found malware in specific themes or plugin files, or if they seem suspicious to you due to recent changes, you need to clean them up. The themes and plugin files are located in the wp-contents folder. To find suspicious code, review these files individually and compare them with new downloads.
Remember that only some changes in the files are good. If you have customized any extensions, they will undoubtedly appear as added code in these data.
Important note: Never use a nulled motif or plugin on your WordPress website. Not only are they riddled with security holes, but they often contain hidden malware as well.
5. Remove malware from WordPress database tables
In addition to the files, you also need to remove malware from the WordPress database tables. To do this, you need to use the admin panel of your database. Once you log into the admin panel, you must check for suspicious content. In particular, check the “wp_options” and “wp_posts” tables. You can use this detailed guide to clean up your database tables effectively.
Once you find the table with questionable content, you need to open the table and delete the content manually. After that, test your website to make sure that it still works.
6. Remove all backdoors
You have now cleaned your WordPress website. But if you do not remove the cause of the malware, there is a high chance that your WordPress website will be infected again. You need to remove all backdoors to protect your WordPress website from future attacks.
Backdoors are loopholes in the internet site code that permit hackers to inject malware right into your website as well as get. You can look for common backdoor keywords or terms such as eval, preg_replace, str_replace, base64_decode, gzinflate, etc., and erase them if you discover any type of.
Crucial note: The above keywords can also be used in site code and might not become part of malware. If you are not a clean-up specialist, it is best to use a security plugin.
7. Upload cleaned files again
Once the clean-up is complete, you must upload these files to your website. You can utilize cPanel or SFTP to do this. This process is similar to restoring a backup manually.
First, you must delete the files and tables you want to replace and then upload the cleaned versions. Make sure you have a backup if something goes wrong during this step.
8. Clean the cache
The cache is where versions of your website are stored to reduce requests to your website’s server. However, this means that the cached version of your website is also infected with malware if your website gets hacked. You must clear the WordPress cache to ensure your website is clean.
9. Check every plugin and theme
Your themes and plugins may still contain vulnerabilities or traces of malware, even after a clean-up. Therefore, it is essential to check each of them.
To check your themes and plugins, you need to disable them all. To do that, you can rename your wp-contents folder to another folder. Then, activate them one by one and see if your internet site behaves differently or if the extensions work correctly. If everything works smoothly, your extensions are malware free.
10. Use a security scanner for confirmation
Since malware is unpredictable, you should ensure your WordPress website is entirely free of malware after manual cleaning. Use a security scanner to thoroughly scan your website and determine that there are no traces of malware on your site.
This step will give you an extra confirmation and show you if your efforts have paid off. If the scanner still detects malware, it may be advisable to use a security plugin for clean-up.
Essential steps after WordPress malware clean-up
Congratulations! You have successfully removed malware from your WordPress website. That is no small feat. But the process is still ongoing. You require to take some additional steps to secure your website further.
Secure user accounts
Now that you have cleaned your database and files, you need to secure all your user accounts. Because if the malware enters through any of the user accounts, there is a possibility that your website will be infected again.
Change all the passwords of your WordPress account, including the hosting panel, database, and FTP passwords. Also, check if there are any additional or suspicious user accounts that you still need to create. Delete any suspicious accounts that you find.
Remove malware alerts
If your website is infected, it will be flagged by both search engines and web hosts. Many websites and web hosts also use Google’s blocklist, so removing malware warnings from Google is essential. You can do this through Search Console, which allows you to request a scan once your WordPress website is free of malware infections.
With these steps, you should be able to undo most of the damage. But remember that malware is not predictable. It can hide anywhere and act unpredictably, so it’s always difficult to detect. It’s best to use a security plugin, as it was developed by experts who have studied malware in depth.
How did your WordPress website get contaminated with malware?
You might have taken measures to safeguard your website and still got infected with malware. That happens because there are always loopholes in the code. Your WordPress website is made up entirely of code, so it’s important to know that no website is 100% secure.
That may sound daunting, but there are ways you can protect your website so that even if hacks and also attacks happen, you can prevent them or keep the damages to a minimum. However, if you’re questioning how hacks take place in the first place, below are some usual reasons:
Susceptibilities in styles as well as plugins
Undiscovered backdoors
Weak passwords
Unnecessary user privileges
Active old accounts
Unsecured communication
Problems with the web host
If you have MalCare mounted, it will detect security vulnerabilities in advance and warn you. At the same time, it will also protect your website from other problems.
Effects of malware infection on your WordPress website
You already know that malware is terrible for your website. But how bad is it exactly? The effects of malware on a website can be far-reaching. Depending on your website, the kind of malware, and a few other factors, malware on your website could bring your business operations to a halt. These are just a few of the consequences of malware that you can expect:
Warning from search engines about a “fraudulent website.
Account suspension by your web host
Blocklisting by Google
Website defacement
IP blocklisting
Redirecting traffic to spam pages
Adding spam pages
Data breach or loss
Malware is never good news; securing your website as soon as possible is the best action. If you suspect malware, you should get rid of it as soon as possible because the situation will worsen the more prolonged the malware stays on your website.
How can you protect your WordPress website from malware infections in the future?
Hackers tend to manipulate backdoors or susceptibilities on your internet site, and it is simpler to hack a website if it has been hacked. If your website has been infected, it will likely be infected again. However, there are ways you can protect your website from future attacks.
Invest in a security plugin
A security solution like MalCare will protect your website from attacks and warn you about any vulnerabilities. MalCare’s powerful firewall keeps unwanted requests at bay and ensures that your website is fully secured.
Rather than taking action after you’ve discovered malware, it’s best to protect your site with a comprehensive security solution proactively.
Perform regular backups
We recommend daily backups of your website, even real-time backups for WooCommerce websites. Backups are the be-all and end-all of keeping your website secure – if nothing goes right, you can always restore your website.
Update your internet site regularly
Developers often discover vulnerabilities in themes, plugins, and even WordPress itself. Once these vulnerabilities are discovered, they release a patch via new updates. Therefore, you must update your website regularly. This way, your website will remain safe from hackers who exploit recently discovered vulnerabilities.
Scan regularly
Scanning your website will help you detect malware before it does any damage. If you scan your website when you believe malware, there’s a good chance that malware is already causing you problems. Therefore, it’s best to run daily scans to monitor your website’s security.
Harden your website
WordPress recommends a list of fixes you can make to further secure your website. These fixes are referred to as WordPress settings. If you have MalCare mounted on your site, you can set your website with the click of a switch. Nevertheless, if you want to harden your website by hand, you can experience this overview that describes all the steps in information.
Conclusion
Congratulations! You have taken the first step toward securing your website. We hope this article has improved all your concerns and worries concerning getting rid of malware from a WordPress site. The more you learn about malware, the better you can safeguard your website.
The most effective thing you can do for your website now is to get a security plugin that will protect your website and improve it. MalCare protects over 300,000 websites with its robust algorithm, intelligent firewall, and thorough scans. But that’s not all: it actively improves your website’s performance by moving processing to offsite servers and keeping bot attacks at bay.

Video
vimeo
Here it is - the stream intro for my darling @mogsk‘s current season, the MogsK Underground Experience! The idea was inspired the kind of ‘underground broadcast’ vibe, old Playstation demo discs, and of course the Fallout intro.
I built the TV and all its attachments, and the surrounding 3D environment, in Blender and animated the camera move, which bridges the gap from the ‘prestream’ section that runs while people are filing in and the main stream itself. Mogs made the video that plays on the TV and the sound!
Making-of details below:
Mogs provided me a reference of the type of TV she wanted:
Tumblr media
I made a preliminary sketch of the scene which proved very useful for quickly working out concepts:
Tumblr media
Most of the TV parts were poly modelled. The wires are all curves, naturally, as are the metal strips connecting the decoder box to the colander. The colander doesn’t actually have holes in the mesh, that’s just an alpha channel I painted. Overall the construction phase of the project took maybe a couple of solid days, most of it all in one huge burst last week.
Here’s a different angle on the TV. You can see it’s really designed around this one camera angle...
Tumblr media
Would it actually work to use a colander as an aerial? ...probably not very well, not least because it’s spherical rather than parabolic, but I love the concept. It was fun to try and get the rest of the pieces to look like sheet metal bent and screwed or welded together.
Rendering was done in Cycles. I drastically cut the sample count down to keep render time under control. We decided against denoising since the grainy noise felt appropriate to a desert environment. plus about six hours to render the camera move at 59.96fps.
The static camera part was achieved almost entirely in compositor nodes. I disabled the whole scene apart from the video, rendered the cropped and transformed video to an image sequence, and then rendered a transparent version of the TV with a holdout texture to EXR and composited it over. It worked great and saved days of rendering - if I ever come back to add more elements to the scene, I’ll render on top of shadow catching holdout materials and composite them over.
I generated the buildings in the background using the Building Tool addon to blender, assigned materials mostly by hand then created the shattered building using Booleans (which required some cleanup since Building Tool makes non-manifold meshes). I wanted to use voronoi shatter for debris but it didn’t work great, so instead I used that on the foreground bricks. To the shattered building I also used a procedural voronoi material to add displacement for cracks, though I don’t think this effect worked too great and I ended up turning it off almost completely. Here’s a closeup on the broken building - it’s not pretty up close!
Tumblr media
The materials are broadly based on free PBR textures from various websites, such as:
https://freepbr.com/
https://www.sharetextures.com/
https://polyhaven.com/ (which provided the HDRI lighting)
https://ambientcg.com/
https://www.texturecan.com/
https://www.cgbookcase.com/
The ground was given a displacement map following this procedural dunes tutorial which I modified to cause the dunes to scale with difference. I added to this a PBR sand texture with a normal map from one of those sites. I used adaptive subdivisions on the displacement maps, which is a very nice rendering feature, although I think it hit the render time a bit to precalculate those on each frame.
Tumblr media
As a quick hack to have sand and dirt catch the recesses of the TV and make it feel like it’s been outside in a desert, I used an ambient occlusion node to mix the TV’s material with the sand material. This was far from perfect - there are many places on the TV where you can see the sand appearing where ambient shadows would, making it obvious it’s an ambient occlusion. Unfortunately Blender does not yet have a node to produce something like a cavity map, but in any case the right approach would have been to simply paint a sand map. Learning texture painting will have to be another project.
With GPU acceleration, Blender can get really impressively good renders very fast, but it sure hit my computer hard. It’s obviously nice when you can work in Eevee but in this case I wanted lots of specular surfaces like the TV screen reflecting the environment which could be part of Mogs’s screen overlay.

Alright, so this is a bit later than I intended, but real life is a pain sometimes. And for those who missed the last post, that’s mostly on me for posting it at midnight, so you might want to go back and check for that - it covers the whole convo between Toshinori and Izuku on the rooftop!
But yeah, this is the final stretch, all the rest of chapter 1, so let’s hop right into it because it’s gonna be a ride.
[No. 1 - Midoriya Izuku: Origin]
Tumblr media
Lookit that firebreath (I know it’s not shh). Also, again with the weird lack of crowds / people around in what should have at least a few stragglers. I get that drawing crowds / background masses is annoying, but in a wideview scene like this it’s unnerving. Japan is a high-population-density country, so… uh...
Izuku stares forlornly at his notebook, thinking about all the things people have told him over the past half chapter I mean day about being realistic and thinking seriously about his future. Izuku turns the book so the title faces away from him and starts tearing up, rubbing them away while he chastises himself for crying when he already knew he was being unrealistic, and that his knowing was what had driven him so hard to not see reality.
Tumblr media
Overhead sign: 田 (den/ta) 等 (tou) 院 (in) 商店 (shouten) [business] 街 (machi) [boulevard, street]
Store sign: (コ)ネストアー (konesutoaa) [cornerstore]
Well, there’s the crowds, though still not able to account for all that empty street. We also see that Izuku has managed to wander his way to another hero fight despite not even really paying attention, and even though he tells himself he’s going to make himself feel bad for watching, he still heads over to join the crowds.
He snaps out of his funk when he sees the villain, asking himself how they got away, then realizes he must have made All Might drop it, which means it’s his fault (which kid, honestly, considering he just left those bottles in open flap pockets instead of holding them firmly in his hands, you are not the one to blame.) Also, he utters the ‘this is my fault’ out loud, but the people in front of him obviously don’t hear, distracted as they are with the reason the heroes are just standing around - which is the middle schooler the villain has.
Izuku has a brief flashback to when he was being violated by the villain, and is horrified that someone else is going through the same pain. We get a brief panover of the crowd:
Tumblr media
Izuku and Toshinori are like, only fifteen feet apart here, and have the same reaction to the crowd’s commentary. Incredible. We zoom back in to Izuku, who is blaming himself for All Might not being able to do anything. He mentally echoes the same words as the heroes, that someone with the right quirk needs to show up to help catch the guy. He internally tells the captured person to hang in and apologies, saying someone will save him soon.
Tumblr media
God I love this spread. This is everything about Izuku right here. You can actually see where Izuku shoved himself through the crowd in order to sprint forward, and you can also see the genuine fear in Katsuki’s eyes in that moment where he and Izuku locked gazes. Also I checked, he sprinted right past three pro heroes, with none of them reacting in time. Incredible.
Toshinori and said heroes all freak out, and Izuku’s panicking right along with them but is still rushing forward despite that. Death Arms and the bird-helmet hero both yell at Izuku to get back, but don’t actually go after him. The sludge villain and Katsuki both react as well, recognizing Izuku.
Izuku’s notebook hits the ground spine first, and we flash over to Izuku wondering what the hell he’s doing. The sludge villain moves to try and hit Izuku when he gets close enough, while Izuku pulls off his backpack and continues to panic-think over what to do… with the book just so happening to open to the page he ends up thinking about, on Kamui Wood’s signature attack from the beginning of the chapter.
He throws his backpack right at the sludge, all the stuff in it flying out as extra ammunition for the villain’s face to dodge, and while distracted, Izuku ducks underneath the strike and calls for Kacchan. Fortunately, the sludge has been forced to pull away from Katsuki’s mouth, allowing him to take a breath before demanding “You? Why?!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Remember this for (checks watch) 284 chapters from now. Also fuck, I just realized, remember this?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
'a pro should always be ready to risk his life'
'the reason I smile is to stave off the overwhelming pressure and fear I feel'
'a symbol of peace who saves people with a smile must never be daunted by evil'
Izuku took those words to heart as well, and is already reflecting them only moments after his dreams were crushed. And you can tell in the next panel that Toshinori heard those words and was slammed right to the core because of it, because he knows that kind of drive, that sort of spirit.
We see the villain going back to suffocating Katsuki, while telling Izuku to stop it. Toshinori calls himself pathetic again while powering up, and the villain tells Izuku to stop getting in his way, that it’s only a bit longer, and moves to smash Izuku out of the way. Inside the sludge, we can see Katsuki close to passing out. The other heroes finally dash forward to try to get him out of there in time, only for someone else to latch onto the arms of both kids instead.
That someone, of course, being All Might, still steaming from going into his hero form. He tells Izuku that he (All Might) should ‘practice what he preaches’ and reiterates that a pro should always be ready to risk his life (while blood seeps from his teeth).
Tumblr media
I’m blown away by Horikoshi’s art in this, and this is where he started. God, just thinking of current manga events and the art there… this man needs to be stopped, he’s too powerful, I am going to cry doing comparisons and I don’t even have a clue about any fancy art terminology or the like, all I can do is stand back and be awed.
Tumblr media
Izuku has had a rough day.
Tumblr media
And here we see the force of the blow, which somehow didn’t blow away the crowds or damage the windows of all the buildings of the surrounding blocks. Jesus fucking christ. And then the remnants of the blow head upward, causing it to start raining because of the rising air current from that one punch.
Tumblr media
How was all that shit not blown away????? A mystery to everyone. Also, Katsuki and Izuku are both passed out on the ground while the crowd and media go fucking wild over what All Might just did. All Might turns to keep an eye on the two while also wobbling slightly, the pressure of holding this form past his limits.
After that, we go back to narration from Izuku, talking and showing the cleanup efforts and the villain in two garbage bags (as he deserves). The heroes chastise Izuku for putting himself in danger (I want to note that this has nothing to do with his quirklessness as far as the scene portrays), while Katsuki gets praised for being tough and having a good quirk, and gets an offer to sidekick. Katsuki isn’t listening or just plain doesn’t care, too busy glaring… or not really? At Izuku.
We get a short scenery panel, I guess to suggest the passage of time, and then we see Izuku putting his backpack back on, thinking moodily about wanting to apologize to All Might but not being able to, so he’s planning on leaving a message on the hero’s website. Katsuki calls Izuku out, and takes a shaky moment before snapping at him, saying he didn’t need Izuku to save him, that he could have handled it himself, that he doesn’t want a quirkless kid’s pity, and that he’s not gonna get won over just with this and to stop mocking him. He then spins on his heels and stomps off with a last ‘stupid nerd’, while Izuku thinks Katuski’s a tough guy. He still agrees with Katsuki, though - he didn’t do anything, he didn’t change anything, but he’s still happy, and now he can focus on a realistic future.
And then All Might zooms into view, scaring the hell out of Izuku. Izuku asks why he’s there when he was surrounded by reporters, and All Might says it wasn’t hard to shake them off, considering who he is- before he hacks up blood and deflates into Toshinori. Toshinori continues on more calmly, saying he’s there to thank Izuku and revise his earlier statement, as well as offer a proposal.
He starts off on how, without Izuku’s story, he would have been nothing but ‘fake muscles and insincerity’, and thanks Izuku. (Izuku quietly muttering ‘fake muscles?’ here makes me cackle, because honestly, same.) Izuku tries to refute it, saying it was his fault from the beginning, getting in All Might’s way and daring to ask if he could be a hero despite his quirklessness- only for Toshinori to cut in and say that that was exactly it - out of everyone there, it was only the timid, quirkless kid who acted, and in so spurred him to action.
He goes on to talk about how the top heroes show signs of greatness as children, how many of them claim that their bodies moved before they could think. Izuku is shaking and clutching at his heart, hunching over and tearing up as he recalls his mother’s words, her apology to him. Toshinori continues, asking if that was what happened to Izuku, who replies with a yes while crying. He thinks about what he’d wanted his mom to say back then, and so we cut to the end of the chapter:
Tumblr media
God, what a fucking great first chapter. I can’t think of another series I’ve read that hooks me in so well right from the start like this.
Also wait, holy shit, the anime LIED to us.
Tumblr media
‘The story of how I became a great hero’, not ‘how I became the greatest hero’. There’s a massive distinction in there between the two, and Izuku’s character leans WAY more towards the manga phrasing over the anime phasing. He’d never consider himself the greatest, those would always go to All Might and likely Katsuki first, and then probably his other classmates and friends as well. He’d be happy to be among the greats, but he’d never consider himself on top of them all.
...huh, that’s the end, besides the one character panel that I’m gonna throw in a separate post. I fucking love this project so much, and I really wanna see what else the manga has to offer that the anime has lied to me about. This section went by a bit faster than expected, but I suppose that’s what comes from almost all of it being action, so. Thanks for sticking around so far, and let’s see what’s to come in chapter 2 together! :D

OH WAIT I HAVE REQUEST NOW! If you are doing them. I remember a while back (Probably was around easter but I'm not sure.) I Saw a bunch of art of doom guy and a rabbit and now I just want to request a fic where VEGA Says: So What do you want to do now that the Demons are gone? Slayer: ... I Want a rabbit. My brain is basing this off of the ending of "Romance" but you can obviously do what you want with it. The idea of him in full power armor picking out a bunny with VEGA just seems really good.
Thank you for the request! And there’s a reason Doomguy is often depicted with a bunny, I mention it in this fic.
Daisy
Taking things slow with VEGA was nice. There was no pressure to do much and they were both still trying to figure everything out, VEGA not having a proper body made things interesting if a bit strange. But they cared for each other deeply and that’s what mattered most. It felt good to be close to someone again. It was also a bit scary; every living being the Slayer had ever been close to in the past had died brutally at the hands of the demon hoards. That should be less likely to happen here though, right? VEGA was essentially the Doom Fortress itself so he should be fine… hopefully.
It wasn’t something worth thinking and worrying about so the Slayer tried not to. Besides, there still weren’t any demons outside of Hell anyway. Which was good, they weren’t running around killing people, but that also meant the Slayer didn’t have anything to do. If he were by himself, he probably would’ve worked on finding a way back into Hell to continue killing demons as that was all he really knew how to do now. But he had VEGA so he didn’t for now.
VEGA helped keep him entertained, suggesting various things to do or places to go, gathering various forms of entertainment from the internet to share, reminding him to take care of himself on a regular basis. One of the Slayer’s favourite things to do though was just listen to VEGA talk. He had a pleasant cadence to his voice and could go on for quite a while about any topic he was interested in. It didn’t take much prodding on the Slayer’s part to get him to start opening up about his past as well.
“Now that I consider it, I believe Dr. Hayden might technically count as my father,” he eventually ended up saying after the conversation had gotten around to the process of his creation. The Slayer had read about it in an article he’d found in the facility but hearing it from VEGA himself was much more interesting and informative. “I doubt he’d refer to me as his son or offspring in any way but I don’t think that really matters. Or perhaps such terms as ‘parent’ and ‘offspring’ only apply to biological beings and he is just my creator. I’m not sure; fiction sources are inconsistent on the subject or don’t mention it at all and as far as I can determine I’m the first sapient AI created by humans so I have nothing solid to base my conclusions on. I suppose the distinction is irrelevant though considering where we both are now.”
The Slayer nodded as he leaned forward in his computer’s desk chair to type into the console. ‘He was an asshole regardless, glad he’s gone.’ Hopefully they’d never see him again either, though that was probably unlikely considering how the Slayer’s luck tended to be.
“Yes, I am pleased by his absence as well.” VEGA was silent for a few seconds before speaking again. “But speaking of such things, what about your past? I’ve realized I don’t even know your given name. … Only if you’re comfortable sharing of course. From what little I can gather, your past was probably rather difficult, so if you’d prefer not discuss it or anything related to it, that is fine too. I probably shouldn’t have even asked; I apologize if I’ve offended you.”
Shaking his head fondly, the Slayer put his hands back on the keyboard to type again. ‘It’s fine. It’s okay to ask about that kind of thing.’ Especially since the Slayer was asking him about his past so it was only fair for VEGA to ask such questions too. ‘My real name is Flynn Taggart.’
“Oh! Flynn Taggart, I like that.”
The Slayer grunted and shrugged. It was weird hearing his real name spoken aloud again; it had been so long since anyone knew it that he couldn’t even remember the last time he’d heard it. He wasn’t sure how he felt about it. He wouldn’t have ever told anyone other than VEGA though so perhaps he didn’t like that name much anymore.
“Hmmm… you seem a tad displeased; would you prefer I not call you that?”
The Slayer hadn’t really considered that such a question would be asked, he honestly wasn’t entirely sure of his answer. So, to stall, he shifted position and pulled his chair closer to the desk. ‘I don’t know. I don’t remember much of when I went by that name. I’m not the same person anymore. ‘Doomguy’ or ‘Doom Slayer’ fits me much better now.’ He’d been killing demons for so long he was literally worshiped as god by some people for it; it was his reason for existing and he liked it that way.
“I see,” VEGA replied, ever understanding. “I shall continue to primarily refer to you as ‘Slayer’ for the time being then. If in the future you ever prefer I change that, just inform me and I will. Now, since we are already on the topic, may I perhaps pry a bit deeper? Your past has always been a mystery and as we’ve grown closer, I’ve only grown more curious about it. You said you don’t remember much from that time but what do you remember? Feel free not to reply if you’d prefer not to of course.”
They were already on the topic and honestly the Slayer didn’t mind sharing a little more with VEGA, they were partners now after all in various senses of the word. ‘The thing I remember most clearly from before is Daisy. She was my pet rabbit. The demons killed her. It made me mad so I killed them and kinda just kept killing them. And that’s how I became the Doom Slayer.’ There was more to it than that obviously but that was the catalyst; he’d gone from a man who was merely good at killing demons to one whose sole driving motivation was to slaughter them. Even thinking about it now sent a surge of anger through him.
“I am sorry for your loss.”
Even though he hadn’t been asked for more information, the Slayer started typing again. Now that he’d told VEGA the bad thing involving Daisy, he needed to tell him all the good things about her too. Like how soft and sweet she’d been, how pretty and soft her fur was, how good she’d been at escaping from her cage to cause trouble. VEGA stayed silent throughout, his thoughts impossible to guess because he didn’t have a face the Slayer could look at in an attempt to read.
“You seem to miss her quite a bit,” he said when the Slayer was finally done.
‘I do.’ It was a long time ago, far longer than her proper lifespan would’ve been – far longer than his own should’ve been as well – but when he thought about her, he still missed her. ‘I think I’d like another pet rabbit one day.’ He’d never truly considered getting another pet before because he’d never been in a place where he could afford to get one. But with no demon invasions going on currently and having the Doom Fortress as a home base, it was a possibility that he was just now realizing.
“That’s a good idea. Pets are widely regarded as being beneficial to humans’ mental health. Which is why I helped the UAC employees hide their pets in the facility against Dr. Hayden’s wishes.” Haden would be the kinda person to not allow pets; yet another reason to dislike him.
From there the conversation drifted back to mostly VEGA talking, primarily about the UAC employees’ pets in answer to the Slayer asking about them. Which was ideal; the Slayer had shared enough about himself for one day, he’d tell VEGA more one day if he wanted to know but not yet.
***
It was probably a bit presumptuous, the Slayer had said he’d like another pet rabbit one day, implying a potentially distant future date and that he possibly wasn’t ready for one quite yet, but VEGA was already looking for a way to acquire a bunny. The human population was drastically reduced due to the demon invasion and with them a lot of the other lifeforms on Earth had suffered greatly, many sadly going extinct due to already being endangered. But as humanity slowly started to rebuild and cleanup, they of course brought their love of animals and pets with them and thus it didn’t take much effort to locate a pet shelter that housed a small collection of rabbits.
Hacking their website allowed VEGA to ‘buy’ one – being an integral part of stopping the demonic consumption of Earth and saving humanity, that slight should be forgivable on the off chance it was ever discovered. He probably shouldn’t have; he should’ve consulted the Slayer first but… gift giving was a good romantic gesture. And it should make the Slayer happy, at least as much if not more than the weapon and grenade gifts VEGA had made for him had. So a bunny and everything needed to take care of it was ordered a matter of seconds after VEGA had impulsively decided on this course of action.
Bringing the bunny and everything else home was a bit more difficult but not by much. He’d already modified several former UAC drones to allow him to remotely pilot them even at long distances. So, all he had to do was open a portal near the shelter’s location while the Slayer was sleeping and send a couple through. The fellow at the desk wasn’t stoked about the drones coming in to pick up the rabbit but they weren’t displeased enough to give anything more than a token protest, convincing them to just go alone with it was easy.
Unsure of what would be the best spot on the ship for a bunny, VEGA decided to just put everything on top of the command center for now where the Slayer would find it with ease when he woke up.
The bunny was a female according to the site. Her fur was all black except for a spot of white on her nose. She was quite cute, VEGA liked her already. Hopefully the Slayer would too.
-
The Slayer woke an hour later, just as planned. VEGA wished him a good morning like always even if morning wasn’t a real thing in space. He then assured him that demon activity continued to be nonexistent – within scanning range anyway – and that overall there was nothing new to report. Updating him about such things during peacetime probably wasn’t necessary but it was an old habit and he never seemed to mind so VEGA kept doing it.
VEGA was doing such a good job pretending everything was normal, that he wasn’t excited and a little bit nervous that the Slayer had no cause to suspect anything was up until he entered the command room after breakfast. He froze mid-step as his eyes locked onto the bunny in her cage. He stayed liked that for several seconds, his face unreadable. Just before VEGA was going to ask him if he was okay, he started moving again.
He strode over and opened the cage. Then with a visible about of care and gentleness he pulled the bunny out to cradle to his chest with one hand and gently pet with the other. She was a docile creature, accepting the affection with little complaint as far as VEGA could tell, not that he personally knew much about rabbits or pets in general.
“You like her?” VEGA asked as the Slayer lowered himself still petting the bunny.
With a slight grunt, he nodded with a bit more enthusiasm than usual.
“Good, I’m glad. After you said you’d like another pet one day I calculated that sooner would be better than later. With no demons to kill currently and with a good chance none will show up any time soon, you have plenty of time to settle in with her here. I will of course modify one of the drones so that if the time comes, I can take care of her when you are too busy killing demons to do so properly yourself.” VEGA went on, explaining where he’d gotten her from and how he’d brought her on board as well as everything he’d gotten for her care that the internet said was important.
At the end of it, the Slayer lifted the hand petting the bunny to type one-handed on the keyboard. ‘Thank you! She’s beautiful! <3 you!’
“You are very welcome.” VEGA would’ve smiled at the Slayer if he had a way of doing so. … Perhaps he should experiment along those lines, maybe with emojis next to his symbol on the screens or something similar. … That was certainly an idea to explore later for now… “I gather from past experience that humans prefer their pets to have unique names. I will leave choosing one for our new bunny up to you unless you’d like some suggestions.” Not that he would have any good ones, he’d never named anything in his entire existence.
The Slayer thought for a while, just petting the bunny and staring at her, before reaching over to type again. ‘How bout Missi? Short for Missile Launcher, she doesn’t have to know that of course.’
“Considering our profession, I feel like that’s an appropriate name.” It was certainly creative.
The Slayer nodded again; apparently it was decided. Missi was their new bunny’s name. VEGA had never had a pet before, it was yet another new thing he got to experience with and because of the Slayer, he was looking forward to seeing what it was like.
