Sometimes I get reaaallly tired of the whole “women in stem!!” thing getting shoved down my throat at every turn. Do I think gender equality in stem is a good thing that we should strive for? Yes. Do I particularly want to be put on a team of one friend, a girl who I don’t like/am very awkward around, and a girl in the grade below who I know nothing about for a chemistry competition because “women team!!!!” when I’m not a girl myself? No? I don’t know. I feel like I’m letting them down if I decline and being put on the spot in front of them is. not ideal? I only felt comfortable joining because some of my friends (not girls) were also joining. The teacher even had us all email her who we want to be in a group with!! And that just gets pushed to the side I guess. I don’t know.
