i get the idea that a lot of people are confusing ora ora (evil 😈) kei for tsuyome

above are examples of tsuyome gyaru, meaning "strong," and in this case, bold / flashy. tsuyome involves bright colors, heavy accessories, big / dyed hair, and bold makeup. tsuyome is more of an umbrella term for heavily decorated gyaru styles.

tsuyome manba is ALSO a thing. if tsuyome means strong / bold, it's clear that tsuyome manba is an even MORE extravagant version of manba. deep tans, super long hair, and very heavy accessories make a regular manba a "tsuyome manba"

above are examples of oraora or ora ora kei. roughly translating to "evil kei" from its connections to yankii - rebel youth groups / gangs. coords are often black with gold or silver hardware (belts, buttons, chains etc.), often paired with tall black boots or heels.

to reiterate: tsuyome gyaru is an umbrella term for bold/decorated gyaru, while ora ora kei is an edgier substyle.

none of this really matters outside of style archiving, nomenclature, and just expanding your gyaru vocabulary. i enjoy sharing some of the semantics of gyaru just for information purposes.

Since everyone has been recapping 2023, here are some of my favorite coords of the past year!

In chronological order: (not doing every month btw)

😈January (one year ago??): this was one of the first coords I put together! I felt so gorgeous and confident; on top of the world even! I plan on redoing this look to see how I’ve improved 🩷

😈March: This is what I wore to my first (and only so far) gal meet! I was still experimenting with my make and i’m not a fan of the white filled in the droop…maybe I should redo this look too? Lol

😈June: My Pride look! I LOVE the beachy vibe and butterfly clips sm!! The bold nose stripe looks a bit outta place but the makeup takes away from it I think. Very pretty overall!

😈August: Random shoot! Not to brag, but I look so cute here it’s not even funny. 10/10 Cvnt all around ❤️❤️❤️

😈September: Debut live!! This is what I wore for my debut at a drag competition in NYC! I’m wearing my one wig that I own lol. I prefer no wig due to my thick hair but I figured having the wig on is better for drag. Btw this is where I start to figure out what make works for my eye shape!

😈October: Pro photoshoot! Not much to say here other than I look stunning ❤️❤️ red is definitely my color!
