How and when did you get into M*A*S*H? Also, I just saw your All That Jazz post and wondered what is your favourite musical?

i’m very new to mash! i started watching in early november after seeing some beejhawk posts on tumblr. i thought, huh, what else have i got to do? so i watched it, became obsessed and the rest is history... hard to believe that it’s been less than five months.

the musical question is HARD... i come from a family that loves musical theater and i grew up doing shows at school & community theaters, along with listening to soundtracks constantly. i think i’m gonna break this down into a few categories, if that’s okay with you.

the most formative musical for me is les mis. in so many ways it is just the peak. you’ve got the epic story with intense highs and lows, complicated characters, incredible redemption arcs and non-redemption lines, and great music of course -- the moments when the themes and harmonies come together still are so breathtaking to me. and i have so many good memories of being a really little kid and acting out parts of the soundtrack with my sister (our favorite was the scene with the bishop, do NOT ask me why).

on the other hand, natasha, pierre & the great comet of 1812 is something that i feel like i discovered on my own, and kind of became an evangelist for it in my small circle. the music is really eclectic and the writing is in some ways avant-garde in a way that felt new and exciting to me, while still really honoring the traditions of musical theater. i got to see it a couple times and the staging just blew my mind, i had never seen anything like it, that tested my ideas of what a musical could look like and how the audience could become an active part of it.

our final category: the musical i actually listen to the most. these days it’s company, which i came to relatively late compared to some former high school theater nerds. just in the last few years i’ve come to really appreciate it beyond the show-stopping numbers, and now i see so much of life in it, so many layers and stories piled on top of each other. i really feel like i see company in every story that i love, and vice versa.

fave characters: gwen merlin and leon, mr schneider (lmao i hate that fucking puppet but like. comedy), arthur dent from hitchhikers guide...lots of others but once again. brainless 😂 rip to my lone braincell but it's taking a nap rn

sweet spicy or savory: sweet atm? dont really have a preference

sparkling water, tea or coffee: coffee for that 8am shift, tea for the afternoons :)

Sweet, Spicy, Savoury: Savoury! I can’t handle spicy foods and (surprisingly to some people) I’m not a big fan of sweets anymore

sparkling water, tea, or coffee: Coffee! I didn’t start drinking teas until recently, I prefer fruit teas though. But I’ll never turn down a cup of coffee! Also, fizz/bubbles are evil and they burn
