a character of colour should not have to have a lgbt/specific lgbt identity for white ppl to identify with them fidjdg.. and a bisexual character doesnt have to exclusively date the same gender to be a character worth engaging with. nothing justifies erasing a canonically bisexual character’s bisexuality so that you can have ‘lesbian rep’ (and its so funny that people will claim carol danvers as a lesbian but then also call a canonically bi woman a lesbian because ‘lesbians dont get enough canon rep’. keep in mind i dont care if ppl call carol a lesbian in fact i’d probably call her that too but even that reveals some bias abt bi women because there’s no reason why carol being bi or gay would necessitate a vastly different characterization or history)..

i also think its worth mentioning no one is holding a gun to your head demanding u to ship f/m, if you don’t ship them you are not suddenly a victim. shipping a hypothetical f/f relationship between two characters that have not yet interacted is actually NOT more morally galaxy-brained than shipping a f/m relationship b/w a woc and some white dude who respect each other and have positive chemistry, that logic is simplistic and it belies a fundamental discomfort with woc in relationships w white men, and the experiences of bi women in general. also, when you’ll hear multiple woc (and specifically bi woc) insisting that this is something they want to see more of, speaking over them from a perspective of like - higher moral purity is dfigdfjig really fucking ludicrous.

this is because, and this shouldnt have to be said, but interracial relationships are parsed differently than white f/m relationships. our bi woc overlords arent forcing us by law (i nearly type bi law, god i wish) to ship valkyrie with thor (lord knows i dont given that I haven’t watched the movie) but the discussion surrounding it and the reaction towards the concept says a lot. i cannot believe im 23 years old and still talking abt shipping discourse but i’ve really wound myself around to the exact opposite end of the issue. and the reason for that is that the language about these fictional bi women belies attitudes and judgement about real bi women (and yes this shit seems Strangely Magnified when the women arent white). anyway. time to put on ur big kid pants, strap on your heart and mind, and walk thru this world w a little more grace and love for bi women.
