The Top 40 Most Popular Operas, Part 3 (#21 through #30)
A quick guide for newcomers to the genre, with links to online video recordings of complete performances, with English subtitles whenever possible.
Verdi's Il Trovatore
The second of Verdi's three great "middle period" tragedies (the other two being Rigoletto and La Traviata): a grand melodrama filled with famous melodies.
Studio film, 1957 (Mario del Monaco, Leyla Gencer, Ettore Bastianini, Fedora Barbieri; conducted by Fernando Previtali) (no subtitles; read the libretto in English translation here)
Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor
The most famous tragic opera in the bel canto style, based on Sir Walter Scott's novel The Bride of Lammermoor, and featuring opera's most famous "mad scene."
Studio film, 1971 (Anna Moffo, Lajos Kozma, Giulio Fioravanti, Paolo Washington; conducted by Carlo Felice Cillario)
Leoncavallo's Pagliacci
The most famous example of verismo opera: brutal Italian realism from the turn of the 20th century. Jealousy, adultery, and violence among a troupe of traveling clowns.
Feature film, 1983 (Plácido Domingo, Teresa Stratas, Juan Pons, Alberto Rinaldi; conducted by Georges Prêtre)
Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV, Part V, Part VI
Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio)
Mozart's comic Singspiel (German opera with spoken dialogue) set amid a Turkish harem. What it lacks in political correctness it makes up for in outstanding music.
Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, 1988 (Deon van der Walt, Inga Nielsen, Lillian Watson, Lars Magnusson, Kurt Moll, Oliver Tobias; conducted by Georg Solti) (click CC for subtitles)
Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera
A Verdi tragedy of forbidden love and political intrigue, inspired by the assassination of King Gustav III of Sweden.
Leipzig Opera House, 2006 (Massimiliano Pisapia, Chiara Taigi, Franco Vassallo, Annamaria Chiuri, Eun Yee You; conducted by Riccardo Chailly) (click CC for subtitles)
Part I, Part II
Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann (The Tales of Hoffmann)
A half-comic, half-tragic fantasy opera based on the writings of E.T.A. Hoffmann, in which the author becomes the protagonist of his own stories of ill-fated love.
Opéra de Monte-Carlo, 2018 (Juan Diego Flórez, Olga Peretyatko, Nicolas Courjal, Sophie Marilley; conducted by Jacques Lacombe) (click CC and choose English in "Auto-translate" under "Settings" for subtitles)
Wagner's Der Fliegende Holländer (The Flying Dutchman)
An early and particularly accessible work of Wagner, based on the legend of a phantom ship doomed to sail the seas until its captain finds a faithful bride.
Savolinna Opera, 1989 (Franz Grundheber, Hildegard Behrens, Ramiro Sirkiä, Matti Salminen; conducted by Leif Segerstam) (click CC for subtitles)
Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana
A one-act drama of adultery and scorned love among Sicilian peasants, second only to Pagliacci (with which it's often paired in a double bill) as the most famous verismo opera.
St. Petersburg Opera, 2012 (Fyodor Ataskevich, Iréne Theorin, Nikolay Kopylov, Ekaterina Egorova, Nina Romanova; conducted by Mikhail Tatarnikov)
Verdi's Falstaff
Verdi's final opera, a "mighty burst of laughter" based on Shakespeare's comedy The Merry Wives of Windsor.
Studio film, 1979 (Gabriel Bacquier, Karan Armstrong, Richard Stilwell, Marta Szirmay, Jutta Renate Ihloff, Max René Cosotti; conducted by Georg Solti) (click CC for subtitles)
Verdi's Otello (Othello)
Verdi's second-to-last great Shakespearean opera, based on the tragedy of the Moor of Venice.
Teatro alla Scala, 2001 (Plácido Domingo, Leo Nucci, Barbara Frittoli; conducted by Riccardo Muti)

TI 8 Finals Game 5 E-Sports Analysis
Dota 2 has a large Professional E-Sports scene, with teams from around the world playing in various professional leagues and tournaments. “The International” a league with over 30-million-dollar prize pool, teams go head-to-head to Defend their Ancients, the game’s most important building, and if it gets destroyed, the inevitable defeat is attained. The game is simple,10 players in a 15,000 x 15,000 game unit map with a left bottom-corner base and a top right-corner base, 5 versus 5. Kill creeps to farm and get gold to buy items at the same time gaining xp’s to level up your hero’s skills. Destroying outer towers is a primary objective to get near to the enemies Ancient. You must know how to control your lanes by knowing when to kill the creeps and when to stop hitting it in order to have and maintain the upper-hand. All you need is your keyboard, mouse, headset and the league will provide High Quality Computer Sets. With games averaging from 30 min to an hour, teams go full to their capabilities and knowledge of the game to get ahead of the other teams, not giving up no matter how long, how risky it takes to achieve “The Aegis”, the league’s prized trophy. Various strategies and techniques are used by different teams known widely by their playstyles. This is a game to either go big or go home.
During “The International 8” held in Vancouver, Canada back in August 20–25, 2018, one of the Greatest Underdogs, the most Cinderella Stories in E-Sports History has been made. The Miraculous Win of Team OG. Betrayal cuts deep. Losing hurts, especially when you lose on the biggest stage your game has to offer, when you lose in front of everyone, when you lose to the underdogs. But there’s something worse than losing. There’s nothing more painful than being betrayed. Seeing someone you considered a friend turn against you, turn against the philosophy you once shared, turn against the band of brothers you put together to win with. And there’s nothing better than getting revenge. The Miraculous Win of Team OG in TI8.
OG was founded on a simple principle. Johan “Big Dady N0tail” Sundestein and Tal “Fly” Aizik were absolute best friends, the founders of the team OG. They believed their principle that if they stick together for long enough, no matter how bitter the end is, you will win eventually. Things shifted ahead of TI8. The OG of the 2017-2018 season was not the OG fans came to recognize. The team just couldn’t put together wins when it mattered, falling to weaker teams and lagging behind in the Dota 2 Pro Circuit. It looked like they weren’t going to make it to TI. In May, Fly broke the promise on which OG was founded. After two years of leading, building and supporting OG, he left. He took Gustav “S4” Magnusson and went to Evil Geniuses, long considered North America’s best team. The team was broken and they had their toughest times. Eventually, OG signed Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen, a promising young rookie, and moved their coach, Sebastien “Ceb” Debs onto the main lineup. Still, few had OG pegged to make a deep run at TI, or even make it at all. But if there’s anything that can fuel a team to victory, it’s a chance to win, but perhaps more importantly, a chance to get revenge on their former captain, their brother who betrayed them. They eventually did it and proceed to the Finals facing off China’s best team. By now, OG were used to being the underdogs.
This was already their best TI performance in the team’s history. Why not take it just a little farther? Once again, OG silenced their doubters. Thanks to an incredible comeback and because of their slow strategies that always shine in the late game, they secured a spot in the Grand Finals. OG was one match away from the Aegis. One match away from the victory that had escaped them for so long. One match away from proving that they didn’t need Fly or S4, they just needed to believe in the thing that had gotten OG so far in the first place. rest of the way. The team is widely known for their turtle strategies, meaning going slow at first but then eventually finish the game at the very end. They picked heroes that would be strong in the late game and it was their playstyle whole throughout the Finals a best of 5 Game. Team OG vs PSG.LGD a Chinese Super Team who are known with their ruthless and aggressive playstyle. On the Final Game with a score of 2-2, Team OG had their backs against the wall. But this time, they picked their main heroes, the heroes they are very good at. They were able to control the midgame by killing particular heroes who can out damage them and managed to secure to kill Roshan in the game, a particular objective that gives you an item that gives a second life to whoever wields it. They get objectives as soon as all of the enemy heroes were dead and pushed their lanes until the Ancient is exposed. At minute 36 of the game GG was called by PSG.LGD a sign of forfeit, as they have accepted their defeat. The power of friendship and determination, the trust in their team’s power and their individual self and strength. They manage to silent the doubters and grasped how sweet the revenge of victory is. At the International 2018, N0tail , JerAx , Ceb , Ana, and Topson proved that the fundamental belief that created OG was true. Sometimes, sticking together, working hard and believing in the team you’ve built means more than the best all-star roster that money can buy. Even when your friends lose their way and become your enemy, even when the world is against you.

Trainwreck Wants To Form His Own Dota 2 Team And Has His Own Targets
Tyler Faraz Niknam, also known as Trainwreck, a popular slot streamer, recently discussed a number of Dota 2 themes pertaining to the current situation of the competitive scene. And of all of his remarks, the one that caught the attention of his viewers the most was when he said he wanted to form his own Dota 2 squad and that it appeared he already had a short list of well-known players in mind. On his stream, Trainwreck mentioned three names that he would pick right off the bat to join his new Dota 2 team: Gustav “s4” Magnusson, Ludwig “zai” Wåhlberg, and Artour “Arteezy” Babaev. All three of them have a strong legacy within the game’s competitive scene over the last decade. Trainwreck is a massive fan of Dota 2 and has mentioned several times over the years that he wanted to create a team of his own, despite his claims of popular Dota personalities SingSing and AdmiralBulldog not taking him seriously. Even though others claim this idea will not come to fruition, he seemingly remains steadfast on the idea. He had a few comments regarding Evil Geniuses not making it far in recent TI runs, after previously winning TI5. Trainwreck even publicly showed his support for EG’s star, urging him to not lose hope and keep playing. He called Arteezy the best player since day one and hopes to one day be by his side when Artour finally wins the big one again. https://twitter.com/Trainwreckstv/status/1448901118444986368 According to Trainwreck, the reason Arteezy is unable to reach the top of the mountain again after his previous peak at TI5 is that he hasn’t found the right fit of supporting players for himself yet. EG has been Arteezy’s home for years now and the organization has invested a lot into him in that span of time. They have always drafted around Arteezy as a key player because many believe his knowledge of game mechanics and overall gameplay to be better than the rest. This has led many fans into thinking that Arteezy throws his weight around and influences the rest of his team away from their strengths by dragging them into his pace. While this fact is often disputed, a lot of players and fans believe it to be true, with several claims of Artour being a “toxic” player in their pubs. Trainwreck had some choice words to say on that matter as well. With his vast fortune and influence, it seems likely that Trainwreck could start his own Dota 2 team. But just to get the three players he has in mind, it would take some heavy legwork as he would need to negotiate deals with EG and Team Liquid to bring in Arteezy and zai, which could be extremely costly. He would also need to convince s4 to join on, along with filling out the remaining roster spots and bringing them all together to practice and compete in person. His mind seems to be made up on at least giving the idea a shot and the players he wants as well, but will this idea finally succeed? Only time will tell. Read the full article

I've been a fan of the Swedish magazine OEI for the past many years, so it's a special pleasure to find myself included in an issue. And now I'm so happy that, with the help of mathias Kokholm, I have managed to sneak a few pages into "OEI #94-95: geografer" based on the djurs archipelago project. Nästa nummer av OEI, #94-95, är ett 464-sidigt nummer om geografier som utkommer i början av mars. The story of OG - Dota 2 Champion
OG is the most common European Dota two team out there. The group gained its popularity after making one of the best Cinderella stories in the history of Esports. A newly-formed squad that was able to win against all odds and choose The worldwide trophy. Stay tuned to this guide and discover the entire story of Dota 2 staff OG.
Dota 2 Team OG – Early beginnings OG was created from the ashes of a not so common team called (fighter ) Business.
Johan"N0tail" Sunstein and Tal"Fly" Aizik, the founders of the group, met while competing in the match known as Heroes of Newerth. After a while, they began playing Dota 2 together for esports organization Fnatic. They were tired of being tossed from team to team rather than achieving anything. Finally, in August 2015, the renowned duo ended up in a newly-formed team called (fighter ) Business.
That team didn't make any important results and it was disbanded only two months later. The entire roster went to play OG which was the start of this legendary group. The legendary duo thought that the team must stick together long enough to be able to advance and they'll have the ability to win anything. It was the basic idea on which, the team was made. That strategy may seem good on paper, but in practice, it's virtually impossible to pull off.
The Development of the giant -- Season 2015/2016 In their first season, OG already attained what other teams could only dream about. They won the Frankfurt Major 2015 by beating Team Secret 3:1, and they were first in DreamLeague Season 4.
After those wins, they stagnated for a month or two, but they came back by winning DreamLeague Season 5, The Manila Major 2016, and ESL Frankfurt 2016. By winning those, OG qualified for Your International 2016, and they were among the favorites for winning it.
In The International 2016, OG dominated throughout the group stage and they finished first in the group with Evil Geniuses, Wings Gambling, and Alliance. However, in the primary event, they dropped against MVP Phoenix at the top bracket. The lower bracket was not so kind to them and they dropped against TNC Guru Team.
After those two losses, they had been knocked out of the tournament end up in the 9-12th spot. It put them on the map but it was not even near their expectations. They weren't happy with that result and a few roster changes needed to be made. MoonMeander was eliminated, and Cr1t- and Miracle- left the group. They have been replaced by Gustav"s4" Magnusson (former Alliance participant ), Jesse"Jerax" Vainikka (former Team Liquid player), and Anathan"ana" Pham.
The turning point – Season 2016/2017 With all the new changes, the year 2016/2017 started comparatively strong. OG won The Boston Major 2016 after beating Ad Finem 3:1 in the grand finals and became the first team to defend a significant name in Dota 2 history.
In addition to that, they also won The Kyiv Major 2017 following an unbelievable comeback against Virtus.pro.
Two significant names in that season just brought new issues for OG. In Epicenter 2017, they neglected hard in the group stage and didn't even qualified for the primary event.
Their poor performance during the group stage hardly got them into the lower bracket. In the long run, LGD Gaming knocked them out in the next round, which makes them finish 7-8th. It was not such a bad outcome but they knew they could do better.
Friends became strangers – Season 2017/2018 At the start of the 2017/2018 season, and took a break from Dota two and was replaced by Roman"Resolut1on" Fominok. This year OG had a good deal of disappointing results. They failed to qualify for 3 events, and their outcomes in ESL One Katowice 2018, and The Bucharest Major were very awful.
The collection of bad results only brought new issues. The most recent roster celebrity Resolut1on left the group and has been replaced by the trainer, Sébastien"7ckngMad" Debs (currently called Ceb). Because of this late roster change, OG wasn't eligible to be directly encouraged to The International 2018. Despite the fact that they did earn a place, the group needed to go through the open qualifiers. The remainder of the year was also a tragedy.
