nyc bound today so I wanted to get these guys out there. my last post did fairly well so i’m just gonna throw ALL of my musical fanarts here. anyways, the under appreciated gem that is merrily we roll along… I wish people would talk about this one forever. proshot soon?? someday??! please?!? if anyone can hear me!!!

Gussie is so tragic because you know that she was forced and forced and forced to fit this image of who’s allowed to be famous and she chiseled herself away to fix that, and instead of pausing and wondering if this what she really wanted, she told herself that it was, and in fact it was what EVERYONE wanted. and so then she started pushing Frank to join her, pushing Frank to start chiseling himself away too, and when he wouldn’t chisel she picked up the hammer and chisel and did it herself because that’s what everyone wants, right?

And it almost reminds me of the damn “don’t be a fool, Andrea, everyone wants this” line from Devil Wears Prada of all things???

But I am just having so many Gussie thoughts right now, which is vaguely crazy because normally my only Gussie thought is “AHHHHHH”. But really she is Frank, or rather Frank is her, and then she guides Frank to follow in her footsteps, and not in a way of ‘it’s all Gussie’s fault that sweet lil Frank made the choices he did’ but more in a way that she showed him the way of chiseling parts off, and told him that that was he wanted, like she told HERSELF that that was what SHE wanted and how Joe Josephson probably told her that that was what she wanted and- *explodes*

Musical Husbands: "basically musical husbands was written by Frank and Charley, two of the main characters in of merrily we roll along. It's a musical we don't find out much about but we do know it got highly successful, but it got turned into a spectacle instead of having the meaning they originally wanted (this caused a fight for Charley and Frank which ended their friendship.) the lead actress in musical husbands is Gussie Carnegie who Frank cheated on his wife with (have i mentioned he's not a very good person? yeah he's not a very good person) so this musical ultimately destroyed like all of Frank's closest relationships but it did win them all some tony awards at least"

What’s the first thing you notice about people? in such a ruthless environment as high school, clothes and hair are all you need to know about anyone

Scary movies or happy ending? as established i'm in my hopeful endings era so i tend to like happy endings. also i genuinely cannot sleep properly after horror movies, like watching them in the moment is ok but the night after is bad.

Any special talents? i can do a really good speech/presentation. also writing. anything you'd do in an english class. media analysis sometimes.

What are your hobbies? i write fic, i sometimes also write original stuff, make characters, whole thing. i draw but i don't consider myself a traditional artist. i read occasionally. oh and listening to music. ouag

Do you have any pets? nope. we had fish when i was really young but that didn't end well and our house is too small anyways

What sports do you play/have you played? i used to play volleyball? oh my god i block that out of my mind i don't really like it anymore. my favourite sport is cricket tho. i want to play cricket.

Dream job? author i suppose. and stuff related to like art and design but in like the technology sort of way, ie. photography, film, graphic design, coding. something along those lines. i would also slay as an english teacher. maybe.

Any special talents? Im pretty arts and craftsy, my hot glue gun is like a brother to me. i can also tap dance

What are your hobbies? i read a lot, the aforementioned arts and crafts, when its not -30C out like swimming and hiking/walks

Do you have any pets? I did until semi-recently, but we’re thinking of getting more cats sometime soon

What sports do you play/have you played? When i was really really young i did soccer but that did not last lol, a bit last year i was on the school badminton team and thats really it

How tall are you? 5′ ..i wanna saw 2″ but that might be wishful thinking

Favourite subject at school? my favourite this year was graphics but i also like english, a lot of it depends on the teacher tho

Dream job? i think the most sure about that question ive ever felt is when, for three years, i told everyone i wanted to be a paleontologist cuz i wanted to impress a kid at daycare who loved dinosaurs, but for know i think id like to do something in design, but whether that be clothes or houses or something else im not sure

These looks Gussie gives in these two and a half hours...sublime. I read you have 10 costume changes and five wigs. Do you have a favorite?

I love to lean into my ridiculous side and my fabulous side, so I have to say I like the sequin dress with the feather trim and the asymmetrical wig. I just find that outfit to be so ridiculous. Then, of course, in my opening in Act Two, I feel very like, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Diana Ross, and Beyoncé. Opening act two is very Beyonce ending her Renaissance tour. Jonathan [Groff] and I are very obsessed with Beyoncé, and he’s like, ‘You’re Beyoncé in this dress!’

This ensemble cast is kind of a dream team, really. I mean, you’re working alongside Harry Potter. What’s been the most fulfilling part of sharing a stage with everyone?

This is one of the most loving and bonded casts that I’ve ever gotten to work with. I think the casting was impeccable. I also think the best glue is that we have is Jonathan Groff at the center of everything. He’s such a warm, loving heart that it just makes you kind of gooey. He wears his emotions so on his sleeve and he’s so open-hearted that it inspires me to be more open-hearted, to be more receptive, and to listen more. That’s something that always comes from the very, very top and I think he’s a great example of that—just helping to bond us together in that way. Getting to create with them has been really one of my favorite things I’ve ever done in my career.

You know, I don't think we actually ever got into character tagging consistently. Probably just too small a fandom. But I do think people have gotten a lot warmer toward Gussie and understanding her character.
