Question - Gurudev, is sexual energy and meditative energy the same energy?

Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Ji - Yes, it is only one energy in the body, but it manifests in different forms, in different chakras. Sexual energy, love energy, intellectual energy, sharpness, awareness, anger; all these are related.

You would have heard about the seven chakras (energy centers) ; it is One Energy that manifests itself in various forms.

In the first chakra (Muladhara), at the base of the spine, the energy manifests as enthusiasm or inertia.

When the same life force energy comes to the second chakra (Swadhisthana), it manifests as sexual energy or creative or procreative energy.

The same energy goes up to the navel region, the third chakra (Manipura), and manifests in four different forms, which relate to four different emotions - greed, jealousy, generosity and joy. That is why all these four emotions are depicted through the tummy. Jealousy is an emotion that one feels in the stomach. Generosity is depicted with a large tummy, e.g., Santa Claus. Joy is also depicted with a big tummy, e.g., Lord Ganesha and the Laughing Buddha.

When the same energy comes to the fourth chakra (Anahata), the heart chakra; manifests as three different emotions which are love, hatred and fear.

When this energy rises to the fifth chakra (Vishuddha), at the level of the throat, it symbolizes grief and gratefulness. When you feel grief, the throat chokes, and when you feel grateful also, the throat chokes.

The same energy then goes in between the eyebrows to the sixth chakra (Ajna), and manifests as anger and alertness. Anger, alertness, knowledge, and wisdom are all related to the third eye centre.

The same energy goes to the seventh chakra (Sahasrara), at the top of the head and manifests as sheer bliss. That is why in any sanctuary experiences, when you feel total bliss, the mind immediately goes to the top of the head. Something shoots up to the top of the head and you feel blissful.

So, the upward movement and downward movements of energy are all the emotions in life.

KIIT Holds Virtual Convocation, 7135 Students Awarded Degrees

Total 7135 students of 2019 – 20 graduating batch of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar received their degrees at its 16th Annual Convocation, held in virtual mode, on November 21, 2020. Students received degrees virtually from the Chief Guest Professor Muhammad Yunus, Founder, Grameen Bank & Nobel Peace Laureate, Bangladesh in the presence of His Holiness Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Spiritual Leader & Founder, Art of Living and other dignitaries.

The University conferred Honoris Causa Degrees of D.Litt. upon His Holiness Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Shri S. K. Chaudhary, Chairman & MD, IRCON International Ltd. and Honoris Causa Degree of D.Sc. on Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of Meteorology, India Meteorological Department, Govt. of India.

“You are entering a new phase of life. Education is a long and difficult journey but it makes you capable to transform the world”, Professor Muhammad Yunus told the graduating students in his convocation address.

Introducing Prof. Yunus, who was awarded Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his social innovation of microcredit, to the students, Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS said that he has imagined and is relentlessly working for “A World of Three Zeroes” - zero poverty, zero unemployment and zero net carbon emissions. He expressed his gratitude to His Holiness Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra and Shri S. K. Chaudhary for accepting Honoris Causa degrees from KIIT Deemed to be University.

“The pandemic has damaged the lives and livelihoods of millions of people across the world. With 50% of the world struggling to make a living, it has revealed weaknesses in our system. It is an opportunity to redesign a world, which will be more just, more equal and more resilient”, the Nobel Laureate stated. Our present system suffers from an extreme polarization of wealth with 99% of wealth concentrated in the hands of 1% population and global warming that is threatening our very existence. “With your learning and imagination, it is possible to redesign a new world”, he told the graduates, while urging them to explore entrepreneurship as an option.

In his address, the Chief Speaker His Holiness Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar stated, "The purpose of education is to build a strong personality that is equipped to convert new challenges into opportunities and broadmindedness and humility to continue learning forever". He underscored the importance of inner strength, perseverance, patience and creativity for achieving success in life. He was awarded Honoris Causa D.Litt. for “his great contributions to the field of spiritualism and world peace”. The award citation mentions, “The world is indebted to you for your humanitarian initiatives to end conflict in some of the most troubled regions of the world like Colombia, Kosovo, Iraq, Syria, and Cote d’Ivoire”.

KIIT conferred Honoris Causa D.Sc. degree on Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra for “his stupendous contributions to the field of cyclone early warning system and passion to save lives with science”. Popularly called the “Cyclone Man of India”, Dr. Mohapatra has helped save tens of thousands of lives by his accurate predictions during numerous powerful cyclones like Phailin (2013), Hudhud (2014), Titli (2018), Fani (2019) and Amphan (2020). “The award is a recognition for the contribution of science for the society and will encourage students and practitioners of science”, said Dr. Mohapatra in his acceptance speech.   

In his acceptance speech, Shri S. K. Chaudhary said, “KIIT and its sister institution Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) have made tremendous contributions in the field of education in the last two decades. I congratulate the Founder of KIIT & KISS for doing such a great service to the society”. He was conferred Honoris Causa D.Litt. “for his outstanding leadership and great contributions to the infrastructure sector”. Under his leadership, IRCON International Ltd. has taken great leaps and has become a leading engineering and construction organization with significant international footprints.

Prof. Ved Prakash, Chancellor, KIIT Deemed to be University, Padma Shri Prof. (Dr.) Subrata Kumar Acharya, Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Hrushikesha Mohanty, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sasmita Samanta, Pro Vice Chancellor and Prof. J. R. Mohanty, Registrar also spoke at the convocation ceremony and expressed their best wishes to the graduate students.

Prakhar Priyesh (B.Tech.), Srishti Raj (M.Tech.) and Roshan Ojha (B.Tech.) won Founder's Gold Medals for their outstanding all round and academic performances. Similarly, 23 students were awarded Chancellor's Gold Medal, while 28 students got Vice Chancellor's Silver Medal. P.K. Bal Memorial Gold Medal, PPL Gold Medal, Nanibala Memorial Gold Medal and Shri Krushna Chandra Panda Memorial Gold Medal were also given away on the occasion. Ninety-five research scholars were awarded Ph.D. degrees.

Question - Gurudev, How to get through difficult times?

Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Ji - Whenever you have some difficulties you try to eternalize it or generalize it. Suppose in a group of 80 people, if 10 people get cold, you know what you will say? Everybody is having a cold. But among 80 people only 10 people would have got cold. But generally what you would say? In the town, if some people are sick, what you say. Oh in that town everybody is falling sick. Is it not? So we generalize it.

Whenever any difficulty comes we eternalize it, dramatize it. When you have some problem, you are like, “oh I am always like this”. If you get angry several times, you say “I always get angry, I always get difficulty”. It is not really the case. If some people have not cooperated with you, you say “nobody is cooperating with you”. Suddenly the whole world is bad. It is not so. But the mind always does that. Is it not? Generalizes, eternalizes, it is not so.

Look into your life. How many wonderful moments you have had. You have had heights of joy and of course, you had to face some problems. And it has made your life more interesting. Because you could overcome all those adventures in life and you have the capacity to overcome. That is why those challenges are put in front of you.

Always remember one thing. Nature will never give you a problem which you cannot solve. If a problem comes in front of you, that means you have the capacity to overcome it. You already have answers and that is why the question appears in front of you.

Never say I am always bad or I am useless. These become like a sankalpa, like a wish or intention in you. You are sowing those seeds in your mind. Some people say, I will never be able to succeed. So the seed has already been sown. So we have to remove all these weeds out of our minds. That is why I say ‘trust’. So, you need to surrender at times like this and what exactly surrender means?

When you drop judgment about yourself, that is called surrender. Do you get it now? All judgment about yourself, if you can drop, that is surrender. Then that gives you so much trust. Trust will grow. All the self-doubt will disappear. It is very valuable.

That is why Jesus said, “I am the only way”. You have to go through me. Means you have to surrender to me. That is, you have to let go your mind.

Surrendering means, you do not have to be afraid of losing anything. God does not want anything from you. You do not have anything that the divine does not have.

Surrender is dropping the weeds in mind which are obstructing the harvest of joy.

Stop Self-judgement, judging the time or people around you. Then you will have true trust. Then everything grows and all the fear will disappear.
