I love Alex Fierro with all my heart, but she still confuses me a bit. Alex is genderfluid, that's the easy part and usually this would be everything you need to know. Unfortunately, this is Fantasy and Alex is a shape-shifter and this is where things start to get complicated.

Alex states at one point that she cannot willingly shift from a male to a female body or the other way around. This implies that her body shifts without her having any influence on it. (I've read the book in a translation, this might be a reason for the issue, especially since my language doesn't really distinguish between gender and sex). We know that her mother Loki CAN willingly shift and since Alex has inherited shape-shifting from her, it would make sense if her body just randomly changes. Also, Alex was afraid of Walhalla first because she feared to be stuck in the same gender forever. If only her gender changed, this would be still somehow understandable, but I mean, immortality doesn't change the way you feel about yourself or how you can present. If her sex changed, too, this would make so much more sense- she was afraid to be stuck in the same body forever! On the other hand, Alex tells Magnus: "Please don't ask me how I know whether I'm male or female right now. I just know." This implies that her body doesn't change because then it would be obvious how she can determine her gender??? (Though still: In case her body changes, too, her gender and sex don't necessarily have to align at any given time).

So I guess Alex is just genderfluid in the same way people without magical powers are???? but I wish Rick clarified this better, still some questions remain unanswered to me.

Not to be overly intrusive but I very much want to hear your rant about jms lady loki arc? Your thoughts about thor stuff are fascinating generally, and it either makes me go " I hadn't even considered this aspect of things ", or " oh that's what bothered me about this but I just couldn't find the words!" I mean it goes without saying that you don't have to if you don't want to, but I haven't heard people say anything about that arc other than it was sexist, so now I'm very curious about your opinions on it.

Oh nonny you’re not overly intrusive at all! Thank you for asking this and giving me the excuse to blather about it XD and thank you for the kind words. I clearly think about this stuff way too much, and all I can hope for is that someone else finds it of some sort of interest or value.

Re the JMS lady Loki arc…

So OK I guess I should summarize the thing for the benefit of anyone who hasn’t read it. The main gist goes like this: Thor is having to call Asgardian souls back into the world after breaking the cycle of Ragnarok, and when Loki is brought back, he is “inexplicably” in a female body. Loki has in fact arranged this as part of a con, using his new appearance to better sell everyone on the idea that he’s changed and no longer villainous, but the truth is that it’s Sif’s body he’s stolen, and Sif’s spirit is trapped in the body of a dying mortal, so it’s basically attempted murder (though Loki’s plan is thwarted and Sif is saved at the last minute). In the meantime, the “lady” Loki is a sexy, buxom caricature of played-up femininity, using her wiles to manipulate the men around her, and through it all it doesn’t really seem to be motivated by any genuine gender fluidity on Loki’s part. It’s just a trick. 

So I can see where the criticism comes from: that it’s sexist, that it’s bad genderfluid representation since it’s in the form of a murderous villain, that it resembles transphobic tropes of trans women being “really” men trying to steal whatever from women. But those criticisms never seemed to me to land quite right. They seemed to be superficial and missing something important. And there are several angles you can take in looking at it more deeply where all those criticisms just fall apart.

I’m not even really going to go into the problems with decrying it as bad representation because he’s a villain. I really hope we’re past that. It’s not good when your media queers can only be villains, but having every queer character be morally upright and squeaky clean isn’t a good answer either, because real people aren’t like that. What I ask for is that the whole range be available, and that for any given character, they are first and foremost an interesting character with believable motivations for what they do. So “but he’s so evil he was trying to kill Sif! Bad representation! Bad!” is a complaint we’re just going to set aside and make dubious faces at, because for reasons I’ll get to later, I think there is an emotional truth to the portrayal, and in fiction that matters far more than any black-and-white moral claims.

So next up, we have the complaint that he doesn’t seem to be motivated by any genuine genderfluid feelings, since it’s all just a con. And my issue with that is that… it’s a very superficial take. He is motivated by gender stuff. Just not in a way that the complainers recognize. 

The absolutely crucial detail is that his target is Sif. I say again. It really matters that he targeted Sif for this con. And yes, sure, part of his reasoning is jealousy over her close relationship with Thor (thorki is canon, y’all). But another part is this: Sif is the only other (that we know of) gender nonconforming person in Asgard, and definitely the only other one that we see as being close to his social circle. But where she is celebrated as a woman who is active and successful in traditionally culturally masculine pursuits, Loki’s gender nonconformity—his failure to live up to Asgardian masculine ideals—gets him demeaned, derided, dismissed. The gender fuckery going on here is that he is furious at the difference in how their GNC-ness is treated. His resentment and anger at that injustice, and he's being a right bastard in expressing it. We stan. 

(I also do think there is something genderqueer in how the trickster considers using a feminine appearance to be just one potential tool in his arsenal, the kinda just shrugging and doing whatever works for his purposes rather than getting worked up about having to do such a thing? I mean. So shocking for a trickster figure, right? But hold that thought.)

So that was where I was with it for several years. But I kept coming back to how relatable Loki is to me as a trans masc person, and trying to figure out why it was that way, and what that had to do with this particular arc, and then it finally hit me.

This scene. 

“Thus is Loki truly beautiful.”

In this scene, Loki has just been able to finally return to his male body (with Hela’s help), and he expresses his relief and joy in it, all while the art makes him look… kinda grotesque. And my gods that is such a trans masc mood. Knowing that while you pretend to be a woman you’ll be seen as nonthreatening and acceptable, and maybe you can put up with that for practical or social reasons for a while, but it isn’t how you want to live your life, it isn’t how you want to be seen, it isn’t the appearance that makes you happy. Constantly hearing how by changing your form you’ll be changing from sexy and desirable to ugly and monstrous… but thus you are truly beautiful to your own eyes. 

(I think it is worth pointing out here, for anyone who might not know, that it is not uncommon for trans masc folks to have a phase of trying to go hard femme before they really accept themselves as trans. I personally didn’t, but I can imagine that the exaggerated femme lady Loki might be familiar to some of those guys. I, on the other hand, had a phase of treating my afab body as a tool that wasn’t really connected to me, so there are some other bits of the lady Loki arc that I find familiar. And here I should note that I’m not saying JMS had all this in mind, I have no idea whether he did or not, but death of the author, baby. The interpretation is very much there.)

And there is another little bit that I want to mention. There is one point where Fandral says to lady Loki, “even when you thought you were a man, you weren’t the man you thought you were.”

And. Firstly, screw you Fandral. Seriously. Secondly, the interpretation of this arc as being related to trans femininity gets a lot more press but that is an insult that is far more relevant to trans masc folks. The insults against Loki’s masculinity are reminiscent of how trans guys are not seen as real men, especially if they are GNC in any way, as Loki is. Loki may be amab, but his struggles are so incredibly similar to trans masc struggles (and really, I can’t be the only trans guy who fuckin loves that: a character who feels so familiar and relatable, flawed and angry and messed up in ways that I know all too well, but also has the goddamn body I wish I had. It’s the perfect combination.)

So yeah. That’s the short version, at least, of the rant about what everyone gets wrong about the lady Loki arc. The sexism, and complicated gender politics, is a thing it is commenting on, and I don't see how so many folks miss that.

LCU Rewatch: Ragnarok Edition

My previously undying passion for MCU Loki has been waning lately. The Loki Series better bring it back or else…I’ll cry or something

No amount of words could describe how much I adore this movie, so my notes will be brief (I lied)

I will say they often took the humor too far for sincerity, mischaracterized Loki frequently, and made Thor too silly at times. This movie still hits different though

Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin is still one of the best soundtrack choices in movie history

If I wrote for Marvel I’d have introduced Amora in Thor the Dark World, had her present for Ragnarok, and given she and Loki an enemies/ lovers dynamic. I still would have introduced Sylvie as the love interest for TVA Loki, because it would be fucking hilarious if he managed to get with both Enchantresses in different timelines. Bonus points if Sylvie and Amora meet, and Amora chases Sylvie around with a knife (accusing her of stealing her Enchantress gig) so TVA Loki tries to help Sylvie by chasing Amora around with a knife, which prompts Sacred Timeline Loki to chase TVA Loki with a knife in the hopes of helping Amora. (Thor is in the background, crying.)

I headcanon that Loki doesn’t exclusively write and/or put on plays about himself, but Thor happened to show up on one such day where a play about Loki was being performed. Loki’s quite narcissistic and self obsessed, but it’s not his defining character trait. Knowing Loki’s character voice and sense of humor, (“little blue baby icicle”) he absolutely wrote that play himself too. (Also because I doubt Odin was able to hear “I didn’t do it for him” which confirmed Thor’s suspicions, too)

Loki focused on arts and infrastructure and decreased military intervention and imperialism…good bean. I guess they were trying to paint him as lazy or vain, but I just saw character growth. They went from attempting to genocide their own species and take over the world to at least claiming “it is best to respect our neighbors’ freedom” I’m so proud of them

No one in the Theatre troupe was even slightly surprised Loki was pretending to be Odin. They were probably the first to notice lmao.

Loki’s character voice is off in this movie, but it got better again in the Series

Im so torn about Thor’s character development. On one hand, his “I don’t need a hammer, my power and strength come from within” arc is fascinating and profound, but his character growth was ruined and ignored later…

I like Hulk and Thor’s friendship. Theyre both angry, aggressive people who punch their problems out, so they understand each other, but it’s that same similarity that causes conflict between them. (And then there’s Loki, who thinks he’s not hot headed but obviously is, and always at the worst times. Loki’s anger is quieter, deeper, subtler, but it’s always bubbling, one crisis away from boiling over and causing irreparable damage. However, he also learns to put that anger to use “trust my rage”) Hulk is like fire, Thor is like fire, Loki is like water. Tempestuous and changeable.

Aaahhhhh yes, possibly *the* sexiest fight scene in cinematic history 😏 followed by one of the most jawdroppingly beautiful sequences of Cinematography. If you catch me rewinding every 3 seconds, no you didn’t

I do not buy that Loki actually genuinely tried to kill Thor before the events of Thor 1. Bluffs, threats, rambunctious mischief? Absolutely. But in my opinion, to imply that Loki regularly tried to kill Thor as a child? blatantly goes against her previous characterization. They really love painting him as a cold blooded serial killer don’t they? 😐 (he’s not a psychopath, and I’m sick of writers, other characters, and even his own fans treating him that way)

even in the MCU Loki sees his life as a tragic story to be told. Writes a play about it, refers to himself as a monster children are told about at night, notes the “poeticism” of Odin’s death potentially splitting he and Thor apart (especially because Frigga’s death brought them together) etc. This motif is taken further in the series, and needless to say, he’s literally the God of Stories in the comics.

Holy Ravioli the scene before “let’s do get help” is depressingly good. “Do you truly think so little of me?” “Loki, I thought the world of you.” Loki’s visible heartbreak when Thor agrees they should never see each other again? How the fuck did we go from “Loki tries to kill Thor once a week lol” to this…This movie is such a mixed bag when it comes to Loki’s characterization. Almost feels like there are two different versions of Loki in the writers room.

Thor more or less says “you’re too much for me” and Loki hears “I’m not enough for you”

“We are not doing get help” this bitch Loki, YEET

Can we talk about this scene? Either Loki planned to betray Thor prior and was heartbroken because his fears that Thor no longer wanted him around were confirmed, confirming his decision, or he hoped that Thor would tell him to stay and was heartbroken because he doesn’t. Either way, Loki has just suffered what he sees as a rejection or abandonment, and that is what triggers or justifies his backstabbing behavior. BPD much?

“Life is about change, but you just want to stay the same” the meta level of Loki, a dynamic, tempestuous, mercurial, fluid character being told that his chaos is becoming predictable and he doesn’t truly want to change??? That’s good writing there.

I also suspect WHY he doesn’t want to change. toxic patterns of betraying and pushing people away to avoid/punish rejection and that hesitance to trust or get emotionally attached can feel like the only way to keep yourself safe, and you can get addicted to isolation and disappointment to the point where tragedy becomes your identity. Building a new identity is scary.

Loki’s an introverted loner who craves being the center of attention in any social situation. That’s a difficult mix to reconcile (I know too well) Also being a natural leader and original thinker yet not being taken seriously by anyone…I also get that

The dynamic between Thor and Hela is intriguing, tragic, and narratively rich. If Loki and Hela are parallels, Hela and Thor are foils.

The only thing that could have made Loki’s Dramatic Entrance better would be if Lady Gaga started blaring.

Loki x Movie Theatre Employee M!Reader

Summary: AU where the MCU has its own release of “Avengers” in 2022. Y/N meets Loki during opening night.

Author’s Note: Loki is written as genderfluid and referred to as he/they. This is the first chapter to a possible series and I plan to further explore Loki’s flexible pronouns.

Chapter 1: Opening Night

It was chaotic. People loved superhero movies, and everytime one was released the first few days the theatres were packed like sardines, lines out the door. Today was one of those days. The new “Avengers” movie was premiering at your small town theatre, and it had brought out almost everyone in the town. The movie was based on the true events of the 2012 Battle of New York, in honor of the 10th year anniversary of said battle. If you could call it honor. You kind of hated the fact that this company was glorifying the real trauma of citizens and the Avengers themselves. You’d think the company would have consulted the Avengers and let themselves tell their stories.

It was whatever though, people loved the Avengers and they’d enjoy whatever shlock was thrown on the big screen. It was already really loud but this one moment the doors opened and a cacophony of excitement spread amongst the customers in line. In between orders you tried to crane your head to see what all the fuss was about, but to no avail the crowd was too big of a swarm. The loudness eventually died down as customers made their way to their auditoriums. Finally you saw what was causing the ruckus. The actual Avengers in your small town theatre. Just your luck they were in your line. Thor, the massive God of Thunder, himself strutted up to your register. His deep voice practically boomed like the thunder he conjured.

“Alright, I’ll have 3 of your largest popcorns extra butter all throughout, 4 large sodas, 2 sprites and 2 lemonades, a cherry freeze thingy, and uh.. that’s it for me,” he turns slightly to his fellow warriors, “and what do you all want?” He chuckles heartily as they laugh with him, you notice his infamous brother is along with them, Loki.

Loki looked clearly annoyed by the cheerful bunch of friends, despite looking annoyed you note he also looks quite handsome in casual clothes, or well what you assume is casual for him. He wore a black leather jacket, black long sleeve v-neck and tight black leather pants, to top it all off he had some glimmers of gold jewelry and a thin forest green scarf hanging on his neck. As much as people hated him, they had to admit the androgynous man had some fashion sense.

“If you don’t mind me asking, what brings you all here to our lil’ theatre?”

Steve chimes in, “Well Bruce and I aren’t big fans of crowds, so we figured we’d make a bit of a drive to somewhere quaint but, I guess this movie is popular everywhere.”

You shrug, while continuing to prepare their order, “yeah I guess so, people just seem to love heroes, and all y’all.” You notice Loki’s uncomfortableness with the statement. You lean a bit on the counter while handing the heroes their drinks, “which of the order is yours, Loki?”

He looked at you confused, you must’ve been the only person to talk to him that night besides the Avengers. He clears his throat, “I don’t want anything,”

“Ah, come on, it’s a long movie.”

“I don’t even want to see this movie.. Do you have water?”

“Yeah!”

“I’ll have a water, then”

“Okay, I’ll add it on the order,”

Thor snorts, elbowing his brother, “oh come on live a little, do you have mead?”

“No, we’re not that type of theatre” you laugh while grabbing the water for Loki out of its fridge.

When you return to your register you hand the water to Loki, your fingers brush against his as he takes the bottled water into his hand. You feel your heart jitter from the slight touch. You hope and pray they don’t see your nervousness.

It felt like it was longer than a minute but the moment went away as quick as it came, “thank you, dear,” he calmly said smiling.

You fumble to finish the long order, your co-workers grinning and chatting up respective avenger members. You notice, Tony handing big bills to your fellow employees, you hope once he pays he’ll give you a tip too, this job only pays so much after all. You attempt to chat up Loki but Captain Steve Rogers interrupts, “I see theatres still sell hot dogs!”

You look over at it, “yeah, you want one?”

“No, not for a movie.” Steve waves off the offer.

You and one of your co-workers laugh, “yeah you get it.. we- we have this joke that your life has to have gone pretty downhill to buy a hotdog at the movie theatre.”

Just then you see an awkward man with a five o clock shadow and purple button up sprinting to the counter, “oh good! You’re not finished ordering!” He got a little closer to the counter, you figured out who it was, Bruce Banner. You assumed he had hid out in the bathroom to avoid an anxiety attack. You’ve been there that’s for sure, so you understood. After steadying his breathing he points to the menu. “Can I have a hot dog and a uhm..water?” You notice his face and hair is kind of damp from what you assume was where he splashed his face with water to cool him down, you didn’t comment on it though.

You smile awkwardly exchanging a look with Steve who attempts to casually go stand away from Bruce so as not to laugh. You see Loki looking down at the floor trying not to laugh, another jitter to your heart. You look away from the raven haired God to remain composure.

“Yes of course, dude!” You walk over swiftly to catch his hot dog off the warm roller. Loki notices you fidgeting with the plastic gloves and you swear you see his tongue graze against the inside part of his lip as he softly laughs at your small frustration.

“Struggling?” He asks through a laugh.

“Yes! I hate these stupid gloves. They’re so awkward and I can’t grab anything!”

You see him wiggle his fingers a bit and the gloves suddenly aren’t complicated and fit nicely.

You look at the gloves and then to him, your brow arching, “thanks?” You continue preparing Bruce’s hot dog.

“Don’t mention it, hey, is that ice cream?”

“Yeah, you want some?”

“Maybe later,”

You hand the hot dog to Bruce, and continue ringing up orders. “A-Anything else for you guys?”

Natasha looks, “no I think we’re all good! Thank you all so much!”

“Aw no, thank you guys! Okay so, who’s paying?”

“That.” Tony walks up sliding a solid metal black card on the counter. “Would be me.”

You swipe the card, and begin to hand Tony the receipt and Natasha the tickets. “Can you sign here”

“Of course you want a autograph,”

“Uh no, I just need it cause the total was more than 100 dollars.”

“Right right right.”

Tony slides the tiny signed receipt to you with some large bills underneath. “That’s for you,”

“Wow, thank y’all so much, I hope you have a good night!”

They all thanked you one last time, and Bruce especially calmly speaks to you “Yet again, thanks for treating us like people and not.. some superstars.”

“It’s no biggie!” You lean a little on the counter to whisper to the awkward man, “by the way over by the arcade is a single bathroom so if you need to get away from people for a moment.. it’s right over there.”

He smiles breathlessly, “thanks!”

You watched as Loki left, and good god those pants accentuated everything, you called out to the group of heroes, “y’all enjoy your movie!“

You hear Loki instinctively respond “you too!” followed by Thor laughing and Loki calling back out “I mean!— ugh- Good night, Y/N!”

You laugh back at him, “good night, Loki!”

You smiled standing behind the counter at the finally empty lobby, you now could rest. Well, rest as much as you could with a smile beaming from such an amazing interaction with those Avengers. You felt your heart racing from the few words you shared with Loki. At first you were really intimidated by him but after he had the awkward ‘you too’ moment, you couldn’t help but feel maybe you intimidated him. You couldn’t stop smiling as you cleaned behind concessions.

One of your coworkers snickers at you, “you and Loki huh—“

“Oh what— oh yeah he, he was nice.”

“Next time he comes out you gotta ask him out.”

“What?! No way a guy like them would ever consider me worth their time.”

“Dude. He was so into you! You have to get their number.”

“I doubt he even has a phone but good idea!”

As the Avengers discussed how nice the staff was, Loki was silent. Loki walked past the theatre numbers, glancing at the movie posters. Natasha, while opening the door to their theatre said “that guy that rang us up was really sweet” Thor boisterously laughed at her statement, wrapping his arm around his brother’s shoulder shaking him in an accidental forceful way, “And Loki was quite sweet on him!”

Loki scoffed, loudly whispering while pushing Thor’s arm off of him “can you not announce it to the whole theatre!”

Clint interrupted, “it was pretty cool he talked to you, most people don’t.”

In a sarcastic tone, Bruce adds, “well they’re all probably still scared about the thing in New York”

Loki rolled his eyes and glared at Bruce, returning the sarcasm “you really think so, Bruce?”

They make it to their seats, and the movie begins. Halfway through the movie however, Loki gets tired of being reminded of one of his biggest regrets and decides to get some fresh air. The fresh air though was simply walking out of the theatre and back into the lobby. He did finish his water rather quickly, most likely drinking it during every awkward reminder of his past. He wanted to see that cute employee again, he really wondered why he spoke to him and treated him so nicely. And it wasn’t even a fake nice like he’s seen before it felt.. genuine.

“Hi, I'm back!”

“Ah, not enjoying the movie?”

“Not really no, that and I need another water.”

You grabbed another water bottle out of the fridge and turned back around to see Loki patting at his pockets, “Augh! I forgot to snatch Tony’s card!”

You giggle and scoot the water to him, “here it’s on the house,”

“Oh no, I couldn’t.”

“Please, I insist.”

“Ah well it seems you’ve convinced me.”

You laugh together for a moment, and he sighs sadly. It looks like something was bothering him. You press your luck and ask him what’s wrong. “You alright?”

“Yeah, no. Um. I’m just worried the movie will spark old feelings in people and I just. I get so tired of people hating me, like on one hand I mean I deserve it I guess after what I did but no one seems to recognize that I’ve gotten better! And I’ve helped the Avengers, and I’ve helped save the day countless times but all people can see me as this attempted dictator who tried to take over New York, and then Earth.”

“But you saved Asgard!.. Well, the citizens of Asgard! And-and You helped fight Thanos right? Didn’t you fool him into thinking you were dead, made a dramatic entrance while joining the fight in Wakanda, even got some real good damage in? I think it’s cool that you’re working on yourself, and it takes time you know?”

Loki nods, he attempts to change the subject but all he can think of is that movie. “Have.. have you seen it yet?”

“I’ve caught some of it! Not enough to really catch the plot but I think I know most of what happens,”

“Yeah..” Loki breathes softly, fiddling with the cap to his water bottle, “I did enjoy the casting choice for me though, Matt Damon is doing a great job!”

“I agree he was a pretty good choice for you, though I do have to say, he doesn’t compare to the real thing.” Loki’s eyebrows raise and you realize what you just said right to his face. “I— um, I just mean—“

“I’m glad you can see my superiority to Mr. Matt Damon.” You were grateful Loki didn’t get creeped out by your declaration of attraction. But Loki continued on with his statement, “He is quite handsome, but more so am I, and even much more, you.”

“You think I’m handsome?” You felt your cheeks get warmer, you knew he could see you blushing.

His beautiful grin said it all, he looked you up and down smirking while admiring your features, “I do, yes.”

Loki rested his elbow on the counter, looking elegant and cool all at once. “When do you get off work?”

“That. Is a good question,” you turn to face your manager who had been standing behind concessions listening while doing paperwork.

Your manager immediately answered you, offering to allow you to leave early with a subtle wink towards you.

“Why do you ask, sir?”

“The Avengers and I are going out for dinner after this, and I was wondering if you’d keep me company?”

“You want me to keep you company?”

“Yes, my darling.” You felt that same jitter in your heart as earlier, Loki really just referred to you as darling.

“You don’t have to. I just enjoy talking to you, that's all.”

You smile genuinely at him, “I enjoy talking to you too, Loki.”

The first thing Elide noticed when she woke up was that her head felt like it was being crushed by a cement truck that was playing dubstep.

She groaned and then winced at the noise before turning to bury her face into the solid chest of the man lying next to her.

Lorcan wasn't any better. He felt like his head was going to explode if he moved too fast. But when he felt Elide press closer to him, he instinctively wrapped an arm around her, wincing, too, as the movement sent a wave of nausea through him. He used what little coherency he had to keep the stomach-churning feeling at bay.

They both slept restlessly for another hour before managing the harrowing act of sitting up. Well, Elide sat up. Lorcan tried to lift himself and deemed it too much work, so he threw his head back down into Elide’s lap, groaning as the movement made his head spin. She could hear a distant buzz that sounded like a phone notification.

Propped against the headboard, Elide took a steadying breath and slowly started to feel like herself again. She let one hand rest on Lorcan’s head while she ran her fingers through his hair and had the fleeting question of why she was wearing one of his earrings on her finger.

The buzzing kept coming and she saw her phone on the nightstand light up as message after message came in.

Wanting nothing more than a large cup of coffee, Elide grabbed her phone to see why she was being bombarded with messages. If the sound from across the room was any indication, Lorcan’s phone was also receiving dozens of texts. It made her pause a moment to wonder what the hell happened the night before.

The moment Elide opened the group chat, memories of the previous night flashed in her mind.

The casino. Drinking. Lorcan. A chapel. Elvis.

Oh gods. Elide looked down at the hand still in Lorcan’s hair and stared at the ring on her finger. Her pinky, not her ring finger, because it only fit on her pinky; she cringed as she remembered how Lorcan had removed his earring as an impromptu engagement ring.

Engagement ring.

Holy Hellas. Holy fucking Hellas. Engagement ring. Wedding. She and Lorcan had gotten married. In Vegas. By a fucking Elvis Impersonator.

She couldn’t stop the hysterical laugh that escaped her. This wasn’t a situation she ever thought she’d be in. She kept laughing even as Lorcan twisted his head and looked at her in bewilderment while groaning at the loud volume of it. She couldn’t help it.

Her laughter soon died as she realized she wasn’t freaking out. It was insane and impulsive and totally not like her to do that, yes—but it wasn’t bad. She wasn’t upset. When she thought about being married to Lorcan...her heart felt happy.

She smiled down at his face which had turned to press into her stomach as he wrapped an arm around her so he could use her to block out the light. The situation was unconventional, but so were they. And it made for one hell of a story

Elide went back to scrolling on her phone and tried to find the start of the messages from last night.

The first few were with Fenrys. It seemed she or Lorcan had called him to be the witness for their ceremony—why him and not someone else, she didn't know—and he responded immediately telling them not to say ‘I do’ before he could be there to record it.

And then he sent a video.

Elide shook Lorcan’s shoulder and waited until he grumbled something incoherent and turned his face towards her phone before pushing play.

The video was shaky but it clearly showed Elide and Lorcan standing in a chapel next to a man wearing an Elvis costume. Elide had Lorcan’s earring on his finger and Lorcan...Lorcan was wearing a veil pulled back over his hair. All the while Fenrys flipped the camera back and forth to show the couple and then his own excited face.

Lorcan’s arms tightened around Elide as he watched the video. He blinked once and sat up, rubbing a hand down his face, before looking pointedly down at her finger that still held his earring. When his eyes met hers again, they were worried. As if he was unsure what her reaction to all this would be.

“Did we…” He asked, brows furrowed,

“Yeah,” she nodded, glancing down at he finger again “we did.”

“We got married.”

“Uh-huh.”

“In Vegas, drunk off our asses, by Elvis?”

“Yup,” Elide answered with a ‘pop’ and finally let the grin that’d been aching to show itself, spread across her face.

Lorcan searched her face for any panic, but finding none, offered a small smile in return before resting his chin on her shoulder and gesturing for her to play the video.

“Do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?” Elvis said, monotonously.

The Lorcan in the video nodded vigorously and replied “Yes, Mr. Elvis, sir. I want to make this woman my wife. Elide, El, ‘Lide, you are the coolest, most badass lady I know. Way better than Gala-what’s-her-face and more beautiful than...than..”

“Fenrys?” Drunk Elide suggested, giggling as Fenrys protested and shook the camera.

“Yes,” Drunk Lorcan agreed, “you are so much more beautiful than Fenrys.”

And then Drunk Lorcan lifted his hand and booped Drunk Elide on the nose, sending her into another fit of giggles.

Sober Elide was trying her absolute hardest not to laugh at the recording because Sober Lorcan looked like he was going to throttle Fenrys for getting evidence of this on video.

“And do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?” Elvis droned on.

Drunk Elide swayed as she laughed and then abruptly got herself back together before nodding. “I do. I do. Yeah, I take him to be Mr. Lochan. Mr. Lorcan Lochan,” Drunk Elide and Drunk Lorcan laughed while Sober Lorcan glowered and Fenrys hollered a cheer from behind the camera.

Drunk Elide kept talking. “Lorcan, I loooooove you,” she slurred the words, “I love that you’re a big ol’ grump to everyone but me, cause I’m adorable as fuck. And how when you hug me I feel like I’m wrapped up in the best blanket. And I really love your dic—”

Sober Elide snorted and Fenrys almost dropped the camera from laughing, effectively cutting off the rest of Drunk Elide’s vows.

“By the power vested in me, by Hunka Hunka Burning Love, I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may—”

Drunk Elide and Drunk Lorcan ignored the rest of what Elvis was saying, by pulling each other into a frenzied kiss. She had one leg hitched around his hips with his hands gripping her ass as her’s clawed at his back.

The camera suddenly flipped around to show Fenrys’ grinning face as he wiggled his eyebrows. “There you have it, folks. Mr. and Mrs. Lochan.” He grinned at something behind the screen, most likely Drunk Elide and Drunk Lorcan trying to stumble out of the chapel.

“Hey, man!” the sound of Drunk Lorcan’s voice echoed throughout the video as Fenrys narrated about him talking to a stranger passing by. “Have you met my wife?”

A moment passed and they could no longer hear Drunk Lorcan or Drunk Elide, but Fenrys kept grinning maniacally into the camera as he said “ Aelin, Rowan, you might have to give up the newlywed suite tonight!”

Then the video cut off.

Elide was quietly laughing as Lorcan groaned into her shoulder. He grumbled, “I am going to kill Fenrys. He sent that to everyone didn’t he?” And almost as an afterthought, he asked through clenched teeth, “Was I wearing a fucking veil?”

Elide couldn’t hold it in any longer and hunched over in a fit of laughter. “Lorcan, you make such a pretty bride.”

He growled and nipped at her shoulder. “Not funny.”

“Extremely funny.” She corrected and pulled the group chat back up. Sure enough, it was filled with responses.

“Rowan says 'Congrats, I hope you both have massive hangovers.'” She snorted at his next text, “'Aelin is pissed you ran off and got married without inviting her.'”

“Why did we invite Fenrys and not anyone else?” Elide asked.

“No fucking clue.”

She rolled her eyes before going back to the texts. “Aelin then writes 'I am so PISSED at you, Lochan, for not inviting me to your wedding! How can there be a ridiculous, Vegas wedding without ME involved....but congrats, I guess. I expect all the details once you and hubby sober up.'” Elide laughed, making a mental note to call Aelin after she has some coffee. “Then she sent a winky face and a bunch of eggplant and donut emojis.”

Lorcan grunted in acknowledgment.

“Aedion sends a thumbs up, and Lysandra writes 'My favorite part—besides Lorcan in a wedding veil, which will forever bring me joy—was when Elide talked about Lorcan’s dick.' And then more eggplant emojis.”

“Why are these people your friends?” Lorcan asked as he sat up again.

She laughed and caught the smirk on his face, “Don’t even try with that, Lochan,” she winked, “they’re your friends too.”

He rolled his eyes and snorted. “No, I am not going by Lorcan Lochan, no way.”

Elide laughed and got out of bed, finally noticing the piece of paper that had fallen to the floor. She picked it up and turned back towards him grinning.

“Lorcan Lochan, it has a certain ring to it.”

Lorcan just rolled his eyes but gave a small, resigned smile to his wife.

Wife.

Lorcan let a broad grin emerge as he thought about the diamond he had stashed in his sock drawer at home and realized that he’d get to replace the earring on Elide’s finger very soon.

I'm not fond of the pairing but from what I've seen General public actually loves Sylki very much. Even the trade reviews called the relationship "genius" which,,,ok. Someone did a poll on various platforms, yt, reddit, fb, twitter etc comparing which ship is better (Lokius or Sylki) and it was Sylki who won by large margin in the end. I suppose mostly they just don't care because it's sci fi and a pairing in a totally unrealistic show, and after Wandavision I guess weird ships are 'in' but yeah it makes you think. But the writers already said they won't give in to the fan pressure bc they have their own story to tell (which ok, valid, you do you) but idk. I guess we will get even more Sylki in second season. Tom already said Loki won't stop searching for her

Just as a disclaimer (bc I don’t want people coming for me): I think lokius is really cute, and I love fics/art/headcanons about them, but I never thought they were canonically romantically interested in each other. I never thought lokius was gonna be canon, and I never wanted it to (because I didn’t want ANY romance in the series), so I don’t even include it in my argument against s*lki.

Ok so….. listen. This is gonna be a long ass post, so I’m putting it under a cut. Sorry, anon, but you’re the one that opened the Worm Can.

The viewing public, in general, tends to heavily skew towards heterosexual-presenting ships. Partially because a portion of the general audiences are homophobic, and partially because a lot of non-tumblr fans are so sick of hearing tumblr stans go on and on and on about how they were queerbaited by certain gay ships not becoming canon, when in reality, said ships are trash.

Listen. I sympathise with that. I get that. I know I’m beating a hornet’s nest with this, but…. D*stiel? J*hnlock? St*cky? None of those were written in any way to invoke queer undertones, they were always supposed to be platonic, and tbfh even as platonic relationships the first two are literally toxic and abusive as hell, anyway.

So I definitely understand how a casual straight fan on Twitter or Instagram would see some of those same crazy “we were queerbaited” tumblr stans ranting about lokius not becoming canon and how much s*lki sucks and……. it makes sense that they’d be like “These people are just pissed that their gay ship isn’t canon, that’s why they hate s*lki.”

But here’s the thing. I don’t think those people realise how callous it is to say something like that when the only reason queer kids are so quick to ship any two male characters who express a modicum of affection for one another, is that they’re so fucking starved for representation in the first place, they’re willing to see queer romance in any same-sex interaction. They’re just that desperate. That’s where the whole crazy gay stan thing comes from. And yeah, it’s annoying that these people put their whole chest into defending gay ships that are total trash, but you have to realise why they do it.

So, what I’m saying is, for s*lki shippers- who are already winning, because their straight ship had the privilege of easily becoming canon despite all its flaws- to look at queer people who are frustrated to the point of tears that they were once again conned out of any form of queer rep (for the mcu’s first canon queer character, for gods sake) after actually genuinely being queerbaited this time (with his bisexuality/genderfluidity)….. and to essentially gloat that their straight ship became canon and taunt queer people by saying “oh you’re just desperate for two men to kiss”………… idk, man. It just seems real cold to me. Reeks of straight privilege and heteronormativity.

Ok, so with that being said.. let me respond to your actual ask lol.

I’m not surprised at all that s*lki won the popularity polls. I think a large reason for that is the fact that it was pitted against lokius, which sorta rubs a lot of casual viewers the wrong way for reasons listed above. I’m also not surprised that casual viewers liked it outside of its opposition to lokius- because, um, casual viewers aren’t very smart.

They tend to analyse exactly nothing, they don’t look any deeper than the surface, and if the writers of a show stick a hot man and woman together under a blanket, they eat it up. Because the narrative tells them it’s sweet. Just like the narrative tells them Loki is a greasy asshole who had no character development up until this point, and they eat that up too. Just like the narrative tells them that sylvie’s the best thing since sliced bread, and they eat that up too. Just like the narrative tells them it’s completely in character for Loki to try to subjugate a group of 3 random Mongolians in the middle of the dessert for absolutely no reason other than his “narcissism”, and they eat that up too. Just like the narrative tells them that one throwaway line about liking “a bit of both” is somehow this groundbreaking example of lgbt representation, and they eat that up too……… See the pattern here?

And as far as being concerned about the pseudo-incest angle, I don’t even think casual fans even dug that deep. They literally just saw two main characters- a pretty white woman and a hot white man- doing cool fight scenes together and giving each other goo goo eyes, and they were automatically sold.

And the writers saying “we won’t give in to fan pressure, we have our own story to tell” is honestly complete bullshit. What the hell is the POINT of working for a corporate film company and telling a story on screen if not to please the fans??? They do what they do to get people to watch their shows to get lots of money. That’s literally what they’re there for. Mike Waldron must have a pretty damn inflated sense of self importance if he thinks his own “artistic vision” or what the hell ever is the priority here lmao.

And I wanna be mad about Season 2, I really do. But at this point Season 1 ruined the character so much for me that I legitimately don’t even care what direction they take him in.

I’m sure we all know the definition of genderfluid, but just for the sake of having it written out, genderfluidity is a label that tends to fall under the non-binary umbrella which means that someone either fluctuates and changes between more than one gender or changes between having a gender and not having a gender (ex. male/female to agender). Within Norse mythology, Loki is genderfluid. He fluctuates between female and male and even goes on to give birth to Sleipnir, the eight-legged horse which Odin rides into battle. Now, Marvel has taken liberties with Loki, the Norse gods and their mythos. Biggest example of this being that Trickster god Loki is portrayed as Odin’s step brother of sorts, whereas Marvel Loki is Odin’s adoptive son and adoptive brother to Thor.

Marvel making Loki cisgender would have not been a surprise whatsoever considering how loosely Loki is based off of his inspiration/”source material”. However, in both the comics and the MCU, it was decided that Loki was going to be genderfluid, which is amazing! Genderfluid people get little to no representation within media, and having this rather popular character from a popular mega- franchise was a huge win for them. I can’t speak for the comics as I haven’t read them, but I can say that the “representation” in Loki (2021), was lackluster at it’s best. The form of them canonizing that Loki was genderfluid within the MCU was in an extremely easy to miss, easy to edit out, minor shot of Variant Loki’s profile sheet - where it simply states that his sex is categorized as “Fluid”. So we can presume that all Loki variants likely identify as having their sex as fluid, because they’re all the same person, just different variations. The second way they tried to “portray gender fluidity” was by introducing Sylvie Laufeydottir - a combination of Lady Loki and Sylvie Lushton (the “copycat” Enchantress) from the comics. Sylvie is literally just meant to be a genderbent version of Loki, who doesn’t like being referred to as Loki. She’s literally him from a different universe except she was born female.

In his 10 years of being in the franchise, MCU Loki is never once portrayed as being anything other than a cis male and it’s clear that Disney/Marvel see Loki as a cis man. Loki (2021) does not contain genderfluid representation, it contains a cis man and a genderbent cis woman version of himself. This point can be proved in episode 5, where the Loki variants are sitting around and talking. 2012 Loki asks, “Have any of you met a woman variant of us?” and the response he gets is, “Sounds terrifying.”...Which doesn’t make much sense. All Lokis are shiftshapers and are genderfluid, which means any of them can be a woman. So it doesn’t make sense that they’re freaked out by the concept of a female version of themselves. Unless, the showrunners either completely forgot that Loki is genderfluid/what that even means, or they never intended on making Loki genderfluid at all. In my opinion, it’s clear that it’s the latter. The shot which canonized Loki being genderfluid is easy to edit out for international releases, and Sylvie and Loki are clearly meant not to be seen as anything other than cisgender, genderbent versions of eachother.

Since Loki doesn’t really involve himself with human stuff, he would totally meet you through the avengers somehow. Or, let’s give it to Thor, he’d take one look at you and be like Loki??? but shorter...

Who knows, maybe you become friends with Thor first and he introduces you to them and Loki’s just like “yes, just like me, perfect...”

But no seriously, you’d probably be friends, best friends even, before you started dating. You would be so chaotic together and Thor would honestly ask himself everyday why he introduced the two of you. But he’d love you just as much so he’d kick Loki out before you. Loki would have the time of his life walking around with you though, the only time when he doesn’t is when you talk to random people or pet a random cat/dog on the side of the road and their just like :/ because they hate human interaction. So when you’re done having your moment he tugs your arm and drags you along side him, making you pout but he just grins. 

Now, in my world Frigga is still alive because that woman is everything and Loki deserved more time with her. So when you went to Asgard for the first time and you’re jaw is dropped to the floor in complete awe, this woman is looking between you and her kid probably thinking to herself, “these two are perfect for each other.” You’d probably force a pair of headphones in Loki’s ears while you hung out in his room. (remember technically Loki is a teenager in god years or whatever you call it) So the two of you most likely just hide up in his room most of the time, talking about random shit (never the deep stuff because well ya know) that has you going on and on for hours. But when you do actually need to talk to someone and let yourself open up, even a little bit, he’ll sit down and listen, even if he knows he won’t be able to talk to you because he’s horrible at advice. 

Whenever they get in their moody slump though, god it’s a hassle. Literally the worst thing on earth most likely, because Loki is shit at talking about issues. But you’d be there for them too, just like he was for you when you needed it. 

He’s most likely not a cuddle person, but I’d like to believe every once in awhile a hug is wanted and it’ll probably come as a surprise when it happens. Most likely he’ll just walk up, look at you for a moment, and take you into their arms, resting their chin on your head because no matter how insecure you are about being tall, he tries to make you feel as comfortable as possible, and he’s also like over six foot so you’re good. You might just stand there for awhile, letting him have a moment with you, and then the moment would break and he’d awkwardly cough and walk away like nothing happened. But you’d smile, with a knowing look on your face, knowing that Loki would always be a dependable friend and partner when it came down to it.

Y'all I had the weirdest dream. Occasionally I have a dream that is a good fanfic idea (such as this) but other times they're just crazy. Well, this is what I got just now (absolutely crazy).

So, for some reason the characters of Thor, M*A*S*H, and the people of Grand Tour were all together. Which is already weird. Norse gods, Korean War Army doctors, and three comedic car guys all together.

Loki, Jeremy, James, Richard, Hawkeye, BJ, and Klinger got along together pretty well and messed around with everyone else in increasingly drastic ways. And messed with each other but they forgave each other for that. They all tried to do something crazy to Loki but he'd always catch them because he's the literal god of what they're doing. But after a couple times Loki just pretends to not notice them doing whatever it was so that the rest could frick with him a little bit.

Colonel Potter and Thor got on well together. Margaret, Jane, and Darcy became good friends. Winchester got along with everyone, but kind of hid it unless it was really important (someone was accused of communism, which did happen to Margaret in the show but I don't think it was Margaret in my dream. don't remember who though). Mulcahy got along with everyone and now everyone would die for him. But he's still trying to process Norse gods exist. Selvig gets along with the doctors pretty well.

Thor and Loki promised god was more of a title given by the Norse to them and Asgard just stuck with it. There can still be a Christian god. Because Thor and Loki cannot stand to see Mulcahy so distraught.

Everyone adores Radar and would die for him if needed. Radar is pretty shy about it and not quite sure how to handle it from all these new people.

Loki, a certified genderfluid person, gave Klinger tips for crossdressing. Also Klinger & most everyone else understood that transgenderism isn't a mental illness, but little understood in their time. But, this is a decent way to try to get discharged.

Jeremy, James, and Richard asked Loki something car related. What cars he's driven, that sort of thing. Loki answered that he's never driven a car. GT takes that as blasphemy and vow to make Loki drive. Loki pulls out the Tesseract and says that he could just teleport to wherever he needs to go. Which becomes a lecture on cars, and how they aren't just a monotone way of commute, but rather they have a personality. Richard then ends up talking about Oliver very passionately. Loki's watching, supporting his new friends in their love of cars, but having no idea what V8 or hybrid or any of those terms mean. They make a deal: GT teaches Loki how to drive and gets him a car they deem worthy for him to drive and he'll take them somewhere with the Tesseract. There is a lot of debate about the car. They want something sleek for Loki, sleek and sporty. They debate over a Veyron, some Jaguars, and a Ford GT. They never decided in my dream because I woke up before they could.

Jeremy, James, and Richard get a little obsessed over the vehicles the US has in the Korean War. Everything from Jeeps to helicopters is amazing for them. And they want to drive all of them. Potter lets them drive the Jeeps around the M*A*S*H, but puts his foot down on the copters. He doesn't want them up in the sky during a war in helicopters NK and China would shoot down. That's not their job, they aren't even supposed to be there. But he's not going to risk three civilians. Richard gets in a crash and the doctors have to help him.

Loki has some understanding of human anatomy and medicine. Selvig has some too, but in different fields than Loki. While it's not too much, when the casualties come in, they come to do whatever they can because there are so many and so few doctors and nurses. So they helps with whatever they can.

It was weird because sometimes it was Korea in the War and other times it was literally any random place on the planet near the present (no covid so I guess 2019 at the latest?) with no explanation as to why the change.

And it was really weird but I love Loki, Grand Tour, and M*A*S*H, so I'm not complaining. It was funny though because everyone was snarky, but I don't remember any specific lines unfortunately. But yeah, crossover I was least expecting but loved regardless.

I decided to split my response to this episode into a negative post and a positive post. I actually liked this episode a lot, but I definitely had some issues as well. My positive post is in the works but I wanted to get the negative out of the way first (putting this one under a cut):

This is probably the thing on this list I care the least about, but I think it's kind of ridiculous to say that Loki would have stayed away from Thor for literal centuries? A Loki from any point in time really, but especially Loki Prime? A Loki who had just barely started rebuilding his relationship with Thor, Loki "Odinson," just the Loki we saw in Infinity War in general? Lol, I don't think so.

I'm really frustrated about how they handled the genderfluidity. Did they - did they just straight-up try to contradict the idea that Loki is genderfluid? After everything they said?? I mean, if for some reason they didn't want more female Lokis to appear in the show, the male Lokis did not have to confirm that! They could have had the Lokis say literally anything else! They could have said "ah yes, of course there are other female Lokis" or even simply not acted all surprised. Or, hell, if the creators really wanted Sylvie to be the only female both on and offscreen, the Lokis could've confirmed that there weren't more females but expressed confusion about it - "Huh, a female Loki? Surprised there aren't more of those." My personal favorite idea for how that scene could’ve gone is in this post. OR, GUYS, Loki could have asked if they had ever seen a BLOND Loki variant - that would have been actually funny, they could've still used a response line with a similar vibe to "sounds terrifying," and they wouldn't have had to even mention the genderfluid thing! There were a million ways for that scene to be set up slightly differently or for the Lokis to respond that wouldn't have involved contradicting the genderfluidity. They seemed so proud of Loki being genderfluid in interviews so I'm completely at a loss as to what the fuck happened here.  

Also, still no Jotun Loki. I can’t fault them too much for not including a blue Loki specifically, because that’s more just something I personally want, but I'm pretty sure they're not going to touch the internalized racism aspect of Loki's identity at all. Which is a shame, because it's pretty damn crucial.

And this is something I also said at the end of episode 4, and is really more of an overall show criticism than an episode 5 criticism (I guess the last point is too), but the thing I can't get over at this point is the lack of acknowledgment of Loki's trauma in general. And the line about Loki having betrayed everyone who's ever loved him - end of sentence, nope not going to explore the possible reasons or if some of that is even true, there it is, plain and simple - made that even worse. I think that line has great in-universe explanations, and I’m not anywhere near as upset about it as when I first watched the episode, but I wish the writers wouldn’t have oversimplified things so much and would just acknowledge the role of Loki’s family in...everything. (I have a lot to say about that line so I recently made a separate post about it)

I didn't love that Loki, while he at least had a plan in this episode, turned out to have the "bad" plan and Sylvie had the plan that actually worked. While it wasn't as bad as before, it still felt like he was being overshadowed by her. Although - the fact that they needed each other to enchant Alioth did make me feel better about it. I just really hope he gets to have an actual solo heroic moment in episode 6 that isn't directly tied to Sylvie.

I'm kind of bummed that the flaming sword ended up being what it was - literally just a distraction, and not even a distraction that worked? I hope he gets that epic hero moment in episode 6, otherwise I feel pretty cheated by what we were shown in that trailer. But anyway, given he still has the sword, hopefully that means he'll get to actually use it at some point.

While the pacing was nowhere near as messed up as the last episode, the show in general is continuing to feel pretty rushed. This thing just absolutely should have been more than 6 episodes long. I don't see how they could possibly tie everything up in just one more episode.

This isn't as negative because I'm actually feeling pretty ok about it (more on that in my positive post) but I still wish they weren't doing the romance thing. When I first watched this episode, I thought that were still being fairly ambiguous about the romance, and they kind of are, but on the second watch I feel like it's most likely happening? Which is fine, honestly, I just think the narrative and the self-love metaphor would be a lot stronger if it was platonic. And given how much the creators have talked about subverting expectations, a really great way to actually do that would have been to allow the two attractive leads to form a close bond without it becoming romantic (because that basically never happens in films/TV).

Since it’s Tuesday and we get Loki 1x05 tomorrow and then I’m seeing Black Widow the day after, and I guess I’m doing these now, some thoughts on Loki 1x04.

Hopefully this will be a shorter post due to me not knowing wtf is going on. This show is so chaotic and it’s perfect but that makes trying to predict it impossible. How VERY LOKI OF IT.

NOPE, NOPE THIS IS NOT A SHORTER POST, I have no idea what is going on plot wise but this episode gave me a lot of character stuff to talk about apparently.

Alright, let me get the big one out of the way. I’ve already said this in various places, mostly tags, but if I’m gonna make this post it’s gotta be here. I’m uncomfortable with Loki/Sylvie being romantic. Would prefer for Marvel to stay away from selfcest. PLEASE. I’m kind of hoping and wondering if it’s a fakeout for a reveal that Loki has finally learned to love or at least accept himself through his care of and admiration for Sylvie, which would be VERY Agent of Asgard-esque and I can see it being very probable.

I think giving Loki a love interest of any kind was always going to be difficult to pull off, but especially Loki as he is at the point in time when the show finds him- fresh off his attempted takeover of Earth and probably still deeply reeling from the revelation of his adoption and also likely mentally affected by any torture and/or mental manipulation Thanos might have done on him. Loki’s self-loathing is probably still close to an all-time high here and he’s questioning who he even is. I’m not saying that you have to love yourself before you can love someone else- I don’t think that at all; in fact I think loving someone else would probably encourage someone to value themselves more- but Loki as he is here I think would need to work through some of his own issues before he could get involved with anyone else. I think that Loki would need to learn to love himself first, to accept that he’s worthy of love, before he could genuinely fall in love with anyone else. (Remember this, I’ll come back to it.)

I got major sibling vibes from Loki and Sylvie on Lamentis. Like I said last post, they felt like alternate universe twins to me. They’re the same person from different universe, but also very much not the same- I feel like twins is the closest description? I can admittedly be pretty awful at picking up romantic vibes when I’m not expecting them, but I did not get romance vibes at all.

I also feel kind of annoyed that we would never be having this conversation or having this as a canonical ship option if Sylvie hadn’t been female. Loki is now officially canonically bi, (which means Sylvie is too btw) but in comics Loki is both bi and also genderfluid. Lady Loki is just Loki when Loki is identifying as female. So having Loki fall in love with a female version of himself feels both unnecessarily heteronormative and kind of...awkward in terms of 616!Loki’s genderfluidity, to put it lightly. (Note: I am not genderfluid, this is just my opinion, please prioritize actual genderfluid people’s opinions on the subject over mine.)

That said, after I finished the episode I was genuinely confused if they were actually going there and had to go look up interviews to see what the Loki team was saying about it. I found this interview with head writer Michael Waldron, also featuring quotes from director Kate Herron and from Tom Hiddleston. Relevant quotes below:

“That was one of the cruxes of my pitch [for the series], that there was going to be a love story,” head writer Michael Waldron explains to Marvel.com. “We went back and forth for a little bit about, like do we really want to have this guy fall in love with another version of himself? Is that too crazy? But in a series that, to me, is ultimately about self-love, self-reflection, and forgiving yourself, it just felt right that that would be Loki's first real love story.”

Loki reassures her that while they might lose, they don’t die — they survive. He goes on to call Sylvie “amazing” for how she almost took down the TVA on her own, and it’s clear from the look on his face that even though they’ve only been together a short while, Loki’s already come to admire and respect her. As the moon literally crumbles around them, Sylvie places a hand on Loki’s arm, and that’s when it happens: A branch on the Sacred Timeline. These two Lokis are having a moment they were never supposed to have, which as Mobius puts it, is “pure chaos.”

“The look that they share, that moment, [it started as] a blossoming friendship,” continues Waldron. “Then for the first time, they both feel that twinge of, ‘Oh, could this be something more? What is this I'm feeling?’ These are two beings of pure chaos that are the same person falling in love with one another. That's a straight-up and down branch, and exactly the sort of thing that would terrify the TVA.”

“Who’s a better match for Loki than himself?” director Kate Herron chimes in. “The whole show is about identity. It's about him, and he is on a very different path, and he is on a different journey. He sees things in Sylvie that he is like, ‘Oh, I've been there. I know what you feel.’ But she's like, ‘Well, I don't feel that way.’ And I think that was the kind of fun thing about it. She is him, but she's not him. They've had such different life experiences. So just from an identity perspective, it was interesting to dig into that.”

“When Loki meets Sylvie, he's inspired solely by curiosity,” reveals Hiddleston. “He wants to talk to her and understand her and try to discern what was similar about their experiences, and what was different. He keeps asking her questions because he wants to see if his experience was also her experience. I think he realizes, and she realizes, that while they're the same, they're not the same.”

Aside from the parts where Michael Waldron says “...have this guy fall in love with another version of himself...” and “the same person falling in with another version of one another,” everything they talk about in this article could be read as Loki and Sylvie caring for each other in a way that’s not necessarily romantic. Waldron even says that the series is specifically about self-love and forgiving yourself.

(Coming back to the thing from earlier about Loki needing to love himself now.) The way I’d read Loki and Sylvie’s relationship, especially from Loki’s side since we know more of his history, is that this is the first time that either of them actually cares about themselves. Because of their trust in and their love for each other, they’re each able to see themselves as a person worthy of love. I think that’s what the Nexus Event was. I think that’s why Loki and Sylvie’s moment of connection destabilized the timeline. Because Loki’s self-loathing is a deep root of his villainy, and the sacred timeline needs Loki to be a villain, two versions of Loki feeling self-worth, at the same time and place, created a HUGE nexus event. Loki even says it himself in the first episode: he doesn’t enjoy hurting people, he does it because (he feels) he has to, in a desperate play for control. He lashes out and hurts people because he thinks it’s the only way for him to have some control over things.

What Loki starts to speak to Sylvie at the end, he says, “This is new for me,” and references the nexus event on Lamentis. We never get to hear what it is that’s new for him. The episode sets it up to make us think that Loki’s about to tell Sylvie that he’s in love with her. But I think (or hope) that he was about to say something more along the lines of how the time he spent getting to know Sylvie on Lamentis helped him learn to care about himself and see his own self worth. That’s certainly a new feeling for him, since Loki seems to have always been an outsider and been looked down upon. And actually saying out loud that he’s starting to gain a sense of self worth would definitely be new for him. Loki knows that he and Sylvie will figure this out because he’s figured out the nexus event on Lamentis- that when they accept themselves and their own self worth, they can do pretty much anything.

I think it’s also worth mentioning that we never actually hear from Loki himself that he’s in love with Sylvie. We only hear it from Mobius, who’s feeling pretty betrayed by Loki and uses the entire concept to write Loki off as a huge narcissist. That way, he won’t feel as bad about Loki betraying him, or about sticking Loki in a time loop jail. Not that Loki would be the type to shout any romantic feelings to the world, especially in this situation, but the way he kept denying it didn’t seem like it was something he had to lie about.

This episode also called Loki a narcissist a lot; I assume to set up the “reveal” of his feelings for Sylvie and explain why he would fall in love with an alternate version of himself. But while Loki is many things and sure has a lot of issues, I do NOT think narcissism is one of them. When the time loops really start to get to him, he says to Sif: “I crave attention, because I’m a narcissist. And I suppose it’s because I’m scared of being alone.” But that second sentence completely contradicts the whole idea of narcissism! According to a quick google, the definition of “narcissist” is “a person who has an excessive interest in or admiration of themselves.” But Loki is the exact opposite. He has such a low opinion of himself that he acts out to get attention, because he’s so used to being overshadowed, overlooked and alone that he’s afraid that if he doesn’t do things for attention then nobody will give him any. He can be arrogant, yes, but even a lot of that stems from well-earned confidence. Loki is very talented magically and is used to being the smartest person in the room. He knows what he’s good at. But he sure isn’t attention-seeking just for its own sake. Any narcissism he’s displayed, he’s done since becoming a “villain” in Thor, and it’s actually been a mask to cover up his massive inferiority complex.

I also think it’s definitely worth mentioning that when Loki calls himself a narcissist, he’s repeating what Mobius said to him earlier. Loki clearly does care about Mobius and his opinion of him and feels bad about how things have fallen out with him. He’s also been through the time loop dozens of times now, and there’s a reason the TVA picked that memory. Because what Sif says to Loki really reflects his deepest fear. He doesn’t want to be alone, but he has such little love for himself that he might very well think he deserves to be. Loki’s emotionally exhausted at that point and just wants things to stop.

Okay. I think that covered most of my character analysis of the episode. I have some theories about Sylvie and the Time Keepers/TVA, etc, but they won’t be anywhere near as long as THAT^ was.

To start at the beginning of the episode: Sylvie’s backstory is SO SAD. I want to hug her. She spent almost her entire life on the run, growing up and living in apocalypses so the TVA wouldn’t catch her again. She didn’t deserve any of that and I’m so upset on her behalf.

Especially because as I said in another post, I think that the reason Sylvie got taken by the TVA was because she was never going to be a villain. Sylvie was kind and wanted to be heroic in the clip we see of her as a child, and she knew she was adopted. She was never going to be the Loki the TVA needed her to be for the Sacred Timeline because nothing would have ever pushed her to do what our Loki did.

The scene with Sylvie and B-15 was so good. Sylvie was kind to B-15, because her natural instinct is to be kind, and I have so many feelings about that. I love Sylvie. And then B-15 coming to the rescue to uncollar Sylvie and Loki and give Sylvie her sword was EPIC. She’s so cool.

Small aside, I got emotional seeing Asgard again in Sylvie’s flashback. I miss Asgard. :(

Also, if a kid can escape the TVA just by biting the agent holding her, the TVA have really got to step up their game. That’s kind of pathetic. Good for Sylvie though, that was very clever of her. The most juvenile yet effective tactic.

The Time Keepers being fake robots was an excellent twist, and one that I kind of saw coming as soon as they didn’t show Ravonna’s conversation with them earlier in the episode. It immediately made me feel like there were no Time Keepers at all. (And I was wondering if the no-robots rule from episode 1 would be plot relevant! I wonder if it has anything to do with the Time Keepers actually being robots?) It was also really clear that Ravonna was lying about what happened to C-20. As of now I think that Ravonna might actually be the real power behind the TVA. Or possibly a designated lieutenant to the real power behind the TVA:

When I was looking up interviews about Loki/Sylvie in this episode, I stumbled across an article about Ravonna’s comic counterpart and started kicking myself so hard for not recognizing her. In comics, Ravonna Renslayer is Kang the Conqueror’s wife. (Now, in my defense, my previous exposure to Ravonna was in Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, in which she spends most of her screentime in a coma.) For anyone who doesn’t know, Kang the Conqueror is a time traveling classic Avengers villain. His whole thing is that he time travels, and wants to take over all of time. So it’s possible that Ravonna runs the TVA to benefit Kang somehow (maybe because Kang needs a certain sequence of events to assure a future victory over the Avengers?) or even does it on his orders. Kang the Conqueror is also set to be in Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania. (Aka Antman 3.)

(I don’t know if it’s relevant, but Kang the Conqueror also happens to be the reason the Young Avengers form. The very first member, Iron Lad aka Nate Richards, is a teenage Kang who meets his future self and decides he doesn’t want to be evil, so he travels back in time to get the help of Kang’s nemeses, the Avengers. However, he lands when the Avengers have disbanded and winds up putting together a team of Avengers-affiliated teenagers instead. The team gets bigger over time and a later version of it notably includes Kid Loki. I’m not going to go off on a Young Avengers tangent here but I LOVE the Young Avengers, please read Young Avengers volume 1 by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung and all of its associated tie-ins. It’s fantastic. Unfortunately Kid Loki is only in volume 2, which gets a very solid “no thank you” from me but ymmv. Imo if you want Loki, read Agent of Asgard instead; I keep bringing it up for a reason and that’s because it’s amazing. Kid Loki is also in Journey into Mystery prior to his appearance in Young Avengers, and I haven’t read that yet but it looks very good.)

I’m VERY curious as to what the deal is behind the TVA. This could go a lot of different ways but they all seem exciting.

This show is definitely gearing up for a finale in which the TVA no longer exists or at least no longer decides everyone’s fates, which is exactly what I predicted back in episode 1.

Final thoughts on the episode: I was just wondering after Mobius was pruned if maybe the pruning sticks are actually teleporters of some kind, instead of time tasers, and then we got THAT CREDITS SCENE. I am so confused but also VERY EXCITED. I almost screamed when I saw Kid Loki. MY CHILD. I just had this thought but oh, I would kill for a Thori reference. Best murder dog. Classic Loki’s costume looks so terrible, it’s absolutely on purpose, and I love it.

THIS SHOW HAD BETTER END WITH MOBIUS GETTING A JETSKI. AND BOTH SYLVIE AND LOKI HAPPY.

I’ve been wondering since the show was announced if this show would somehow end with a version of the comics Kid Loki + AoA Loki storyline, where this Loki gets reborn into the main MCU as Kid/Teen Loki so he can join the Young Avengers, and I still don’t know how I feel about that, but with how things are going I can still see it happening.

Well, as I've said before here on Tumblr I didn't really enjoy what they were making with Loki. He felt a lot OOC throughout the series and the whole relationship with Sylvie felt a little forced to me. They could pull it as some kind of self love or idk but it's amazing how on MCU the first woman a male lead empathizes HAS to become his love interest. I'm still amazed at how Black Widow escaped this fate but it's not like they haven't tried to get her with one of the avengers. And not only that, they take the "canon" genderfluid character but treat having a female presenting Loki as something weird and abnormal (that happens when Loki asks his variants about this and they'd never seen a female presenting Loki before and react kind bewildered at the idea) and his sexuality that could've been used to show a mlm relationship at the center of an MCU show was completely brushed off with a few comments about off screen relationships we never saw.

This Loki barely felt like Loki at all. Being manipulated like nothing and defeated without being able to even try to defend himself on episode 1. Mobius character always putting him down and treating him like trash even after he realized he needed his help to get Sylvie. Tbh, i think I'd have enjoyed the series a lot more if only they toned down the Loki slander. He's supposed to be smart, he's supposed to be cunning, he's supposed to be manipulative, but it seems one video is supposed to count as character development enough to get him again at the point he was on Ragnarok and undermine all his personality traits. It's not like change takes TIME yk?

Sylvie could have been the catalyst of Loki's development in this series but they felt it was enough to show him his life and that's it.

I guess I liked the whole thing with Nathaniel Richards/Kang but I really hope when we actually meet Kang, The Conqueror he's not as quirky and sassy because I don't think it would fit him. But also I hope we get Iron Lad soon too because I'm really excited about Young Avengers coming together.

The only thing I REALLY enjoyed were the Loki variants. I loved them to tears. Classic Loki or how I like to call him Old Man Loki, was a gem. I'm really excited to see Kid Loki again and I hope they put him in Young avengers. I wish we learned more about Sylvie's backstory and why she doesn't mention her Thor, but I like her character in general.

I also wish they remembered Loki is a frost giant so he shouldn't really feel much cold I guess @_@

On a last note, I'm not trying to attack people who ship Sylki, it's a valid ship, it's just i personally don't, specially with how it was written. But maybe after a few fanfics or fanarts I might change my mind. Please don't hate me just for that 😅

The recent missions had left Loki pushed to his limits, he could not remember being so challenged as he had been as he was as an avenger. Tonight he lay in bed unable to move after a long luxurious bath, it was like other nights or, so he had assumed.

As he went to run a hand through his hair wondering if perhaps it was finally becoming too long he noticed the skin on his hand and forearm shifting from alabaster to a deep blue. For a moment all he could do was stare transfixed as though he were watching it happen to someone else and not himself.

Then reality came crashing down around him, it wasn’t happening to another person it was happening to him now. He tried commanding his own body to obey him, to have his skin shift back, he had mastered shapeshifting at the age of sixteen he could do this. Yet he could not. His own body betrayed him. More skin shifted from the familiar Aesir to the stranger Jötunn, he panicked.

What would happen when Sigyn saw him like this? Adrenaline surged through his body giving him the strength to kick off his blankets and stumble towards the vanity. He searched the surface of the dark wood furniture, various Midgardian creams and lotions that he and Sigyn were testing lay scattered.

The cosmetics hid in the second draw down, he pulled it open with the ridiculous idea that he could somehow hide his sudden inability to master his own body by caking himself in powders and creams. It might’ve worked if people ignored the crimson eyes (Sunglasses! He reminded himself) and the raised lines that ran throughout his body.

Oh, and now he had horns? They had not been there before, he was certain that the last time he had been forced to take this form he lacked horns. Suddenly there was a pressure around his head, one he had never noticed before as the horns seemingly sprouted not from his forehead where he first thought they had but from the sides of his head, just above or behind the ears which were now pointed. The horns were a shade of blue so dark and deep they almost looked black.

Panic filled him as his form became less and less Aesir with each passing second, his nails were a dark blue just like his horns, his entire body seemed more sensitive to the heat surrounding him, to the luxurious fabrics he wore.

He could hear Sigyn approach, his hearing had vastly improved, all his senses were heightened he realized stumbling back to the bed and ducking beneath the covers completely covering himself while attempting to force his body to submit to him. Why could he not control his own body?

The door opened, he could smell Sigyn from the lemon based perfumes she favoured to her own natural musk, he could smell Stark’s aftershave and oil, metal and something artificial clinging to her.

She marched on over to the shower slightly more heavy footed than was necessary, it took time, twenty-three minutes, during that time he tried once again to force his body to submit to him. A glimmer of hope came when his fingertips turned paler, but that hope was smothered within a few seconds.

Sigyn was out of the shower, “You were right,” She said in that overly resigned but amused and affectionate way she had whenever having to admit that she was wrong, the goddess of fidelity and victory did not take loosing well. “Stark is good company, I almost want to adopt him.”

Some part of Loki could imagine the scene and Stark accepting, then Sigyn would proudly show off their Midgardian son to all of Asgard and Odin would be forced to endure a Yuletide with Stark… this was starting to sound like a good idea.

A finger prodded at his head, “Did you fall asleep in your armour again?” she asked he pulled the covers tighter around himself desperate for her not to see him like this. “Darling?” Sigyn asked sitting herself down on the bed beside him, his back against her thigh.

She sifted, he felt the blankets being pulled, “DON’T!” he warned her. She listened to his protests releasing the blankets instantly.

A momentary beat passed before she asked him, “What is wrong my love?” her fingers running along the length of his arm.

He shivered unable to respond, how was she going to react? He could not get this form under his control, she had never seen this side of him, it was something he had made sure of.

Sigyn did not abandon him, instead she draped herself over him a comforting weight atop him separated by the warmth of the blanket that used to be sinfully soft against his skin but now seemed rough, harsh. She was no fool, she quickly realized what might be happening and soothed him as best she could with a gentle humming while gently rubbing circles into his back through the blanket.

He could feel the smile gracing his own lips as she somehow managed to squeeze him with her upper body as she remained half draped over him. It seemed so foolish on his part to worry about Sigyn’s reaction, her very nature was loyalty, she was a woman who was understanding, she had stood by him through the best times and the worst.

But this, this was different, this had been forced upon the pair of them, a lie that even the god of lies had not been able to detect. It was not part of their lives until Odin forced it upon them, by then it had been the start of a great downward spiral.

They had found their place side by side once more, but the issue of what he truly was had never been spoken of or addressed. Where once before Thor’s first coronation, before the truth was revealed, they had indulged in the idea of starting a family.

Loki had always teased her that she would make a great mother, and she would, though she often dreaded the idea of carrying on her families habit of having twins. She had been a twin, her mother, grandmother, grandfather and great-grandmother all had been twins.

But the more they had spoken about it the more they had liked the idea, a pair of twins born together, raised together on equal footing. They would never need fear inheriting a throne or whether one parent thought them a mistake. They would be loved and adored, treasured until the end of days. It had been such a nice dream.

“I cannot control it,” he admitted hating how meek he sounded beneath the blankets where he hid. She squeezed him again, “My jötunn form.”

She guessed as much, even at his lowest points Loki had never hid from her like this before. He never spoke of his Jötunn side, this other form, he never wanted to admit it or address it, that was part of the problem. How could they fix something that they never addressed or spoke about?

“In what way can you not control it?” She asked him still rubbing circles in-between his shoulder blades.

If they could not talk about it emotionally than they would boil it down to simple practicality. Not that Sigyn liked this path, she would rather Loki be comfortable and happy in his body regardless of what shape it took. But this was a start.

There were many options, may ways that Loki could explain what was happening yet the best solution was often simplest. He shifted enough that Sigyn pulled herself off of him and then slowly he pulled back the blanket revealing the issue at hand.

Instead of recoiling in horror as most aesir would she inched towards him placing both her palms against each cheek, she greeted him with her usual warmth, that smile made her brighter than he remembered. She leaned into him, her nose brushing up against his the new horns were not dissimilar to the golden horns she was more familiar with.

“I told you,” she taunted before brushing her freckled lips against his deep blue lips. She grinned pleased with herself they both knew she was right. He sat himself against the headboard while she sat by his side facing him, she never stopped smiling. “Rest for the next couple of days and eat plenty, you should regain the strength to reign in your shapeshifting.”

If his brain had not been working against him he might have come to this solution first, instead he forgotten the simplest solution. Rest and recouperation.

He grinned sheepishly, “Does that mean I will be pampered?”

“You know I never miss an opportunity to pamper you my love,” She answered, he could already see her planning how she was going to spoil him. Though stubbornly she would refuse to admit it should anyone ask, I was their private life after all.

They settled into their usual ways with some minor awkwardness, laying his head in her lap she took into account his new features. While she was used to him wearing horns she was used to being able to remove them. Gently at first she tucked hair that had fallen over his face behind his ear careful to avoid the new additions. He still carried tension within his body, anxious that at any moment she would flee. She never would.

They were bound in a way that went beyond marriage, beyond simple love and affection. It was a connection that only fidelity and lies could forge, a relationship built on mischief and victory, they would not be torn apart by this simple blip.

Her fingers traced a ghostly line over the curve of his horn, a violent pleasurable shudder wracked his body, she misunderstood and pulled her hand back afraid that she had hurt or offended him in some way.

Instead, he rolled onto his back, “Do it again,” he urged the black of his pupils blown wide.

“There’s a joke here, something about horns,” Sigyn whispered against the skin of his jaw, Loki had an idea but quickly dropped it when she kissed him again.

In this form everything was new the feel of her was unusually soft and smooth, he had never truly appreciated how soft she felt against him until now. Her fingers traced along the lines running over his ribs and chest, each time she touched him his body shivered in delight.

It was moments like this that awed him, Sigyn loved him, he still could not understand how or why. Theirs was not an easy relationship, neither of them liked easy, but at times Loki knew he pushed Sigyn a little to hard. Most spouses would have left, most would have slammed the door so hard in his face all the realms would feel and hear it.

But here, as Sigyn shifted them, so she could hold him in her arms he forgot his worries just for a moment. The threads of magic that twirled from her fingers like fae dancing on the petals of a flower turned his attentions towards more pleasant things, more delightful memories.

Warm fingers lit by cool blues trailed down his arms, down his spine, she worked her magic soothing each and every physical ache she could. There was a doubt deeply rooted that she would never be able to truly rid Loki of all that plagued him mentally and emotionally.

It strengthened her conviction to remain by his side, to remind him that he deserved love and compassion. That he was worthy of everything she could give him and hoped in return that he found her just as worthy of his love and affections. Somehow she knew he did, they did not need to speak of such things.

Fingers drifted along deep blue skin, like a sapphire caught in the light of the moon his skin shimmered. Freshly fallen snow glittering beneath a pale silver moon came to her mind, the memory of a night spent together in the cold of Midgard where the northern lights overhead gleamed and glittered illuminating the surrounding lands.

They had made love underneath those lights, the cold did not affect Loki as it did her, so he lay in the cold snow enjoying the gasps of pain and pleasure Sigyn rewarded him with when he brushed icy fingers cooled by snow against her nipples.

It was something neither had considered before, the snow and ice was not supposed to illicit pleasure or feelings of warmth and comfort. But Midgard did not believe as Asgard, they welcomed the ice and snow (within reason) choosing instead to celebrate in the warmth but enjoying the cold.

Sigyn preferred Midgard for many reasons, that which was most obvious, here Loki could breathe. Free of expectations from the crowns that knew him, from the realms that would curse and defame him. Here Loki was not completely unburdened, but he walked lighter than he would in other realms.

She wanted to remind him of this, that he was loved and should not need to fear revealing his true self. But logical compassion was overwhelmed by centuries of abuse, Loki may never love his jötunn self and for that and so many other reasons Sigyn would never forgive either Odin, Frigga or Thor.

Loki should not have to live in fear of himself, for himself, but he did, and she desperately wished she could take that from him.

Drawing fingers along the lines of his body Sigyn could not help but marvel at his beauty, she was lost at the moment unable to keep her hands off him. Though in fairness she was like that with Loki regardless of form, gender or sex.

They had once spent an entire day together where Loki was a massive iridescent serpent, he had wound himself around her while she read her books his massive body had been so great that she had to use him as a chair. He had needed an escape, somewhere to hide and Sigyn welcomed him with open arms.

Though when he slithered his way up beneath her jumper, so he could have some sort of skin contact that wasn’t just her hands had been a little vexing. Especially when she needed to get up for any reason. But there was something adorable about Loki’s shimmering emerald form being so snugly wound against her, his inky black tongue flicking out against her collar bone as he nestled himself between her breasts. He made a surprisingly good chair as a snake.

But she drew the line at horses after Loki had attempted to spend the day with her in that form, having to explain why you were having a bath with your wife who was a mare was as about as awkward as anything in the early stages of their marriage. Along the way Sigyn simply lost the ability to feel awkward about being caught in odd situations with Loki.

If her spouse needed comfort she was going to give them comfort regardless of what form they took!

“Do you think being in your jötunn form may influence the way you shapeshift?” she pondered running her fingers through his hair. He always enjoyed someone playing with his hair.

Loki who had been nestled against her chest took a moment to consider this. It wasn’t odd to think that maybe it would, especially if it were simply a case of shifting between sexes and genders. But more complex shapeshifting, animals and creatures, that may not be affected.

“If you wish to see my blue breasts you need only ask,” Loki teased pressing a kiss against her collar bone, his horns bumping a little against her as he did so. Her fingers meanwhile continued to draw small circles into his scalp, he was caught between arousal and sleepiness wondering which would be the first to give out.

Sigyn thought about this, Loki never offered to show his jötunn form to anyone she suspected it was less that he was wiling to show her his breasts and more a joke. She did not press the issue for tonight, she knew the key to handling Loki when he was in states like this, slow and softly. He was not fragile or delicate by any means but that did not mean he did not deserve softness.

Instead, she offered a counter, “Well if you’re offering, I wouldn’t mind you shapeshifting into a tiger could you do that?” she asked, she had recently discovered the amazing mammals and creatures of Midgard and wondered why they had never visited the realm sooner. Oh, yes… Odin.

Loki had previously transformed into Midgardian cats, mostly a black cat to mess with the other avengers whenever the mischievous fancy took him. It was never anything big, at first he was just there inside the compound, Sam would say “Did you see that black cat?” and everyone would look at him like he had gone mad. Innocent pranking.

She had missed his innocent pranks, the ones made to entertain him and those around him. The days when they were all a lot more innocent and a lot less afraid, as a young teen Loki had always tried to win Sigyn over with his pranks. More often than not they backfired, but he had won her over by being able to laugh or walk it off. Not many (especially the men) in Asgard had the ability to do that.

It was not simply selfishness that drove Sigyn to request Loki shapeshift into a tiger, a form that he never took before which would therefore pose a challenge but because after the distraction of concentration he may be in another form that would free him from the insecurities that his jötunn brought about.

However, Loki shook his head, “Not without studying the creature beforehand,” that, or he was too exhausted and didn’t want to admit it. Sigyn pondered this as she stroked her fingers along the length of his spine.

“Then how about an old favourite?” she suggested. She could feel him vibrate, whether in relief or excitement she didn’t know, all that mattered was he was slowly being pulled away from the less cheerful thoughts and feelings this form inspired.

Well she didn’t need to ask twice, did she? It might not be a tiger but as Loki shifted into a snake he wound himself around her and held her firmly in the coils of his body. She used her magic to toss a blanket over the pair of them, his long neck and body acting as her new warm pillow made of iridescent emerald scales.

She smiled when his adorable snout tucked itself upon her neck, his tongue flicking out against her ear lobe, an affectionate gesture she had come to adore whenever he spent time as a serpent. Sigyn smiled drawing her hands over as much of his huge body as she could, there was too much of him as this particular snake. His entire body so large parts of him hung off the bed. The flicks of his forked inky tongue slowly tapered off until they came to a stop.

A smile spread across her lips as she felt the tightly wound body relax, no longer burdened by reality Loki was safe in his dreams. She would make sure of it, the gentle suggestion of magic from her would always protect him from his nightmares of which there seemed legion.

It wasn’t long before she too found the siren song of sleep within the coils of her spouse, her greatest love. Her last waking thoughts were of tomorrow where she promised to make his favourite food.

That at least should assist in his recouperation.
