not to assign sentient personalities to asoiaf dragons but caraxes 100% is like “he’s gross and I hate him but this is also the most fun I’ve had in decades” bc what daemon and caraxes do have in common is the mad lad gene and people like that can’t resist each other. daemon loves caraxes soooo much tho bc that’s like his only real friend.
exactly! caraxes found this little worm on the ground and he keeps getting banished but he also got to burn things in the crab war and daemon sings him fun songs. 100% they both bite
#when your only friend is a dragon no wonder daemon is like that#hotd#daemon#guava.ask#dragonposting#caraxes

“nettles, rhaena, baela” Anyone noticing the pattern here
you’re right and you should say it. you know what. laena belongs here too. house of the dragon does have a black women problem i would say i think ive already spoke about the racism of even making the decision to give rhaena nettles’ storyline, but to do that and then continue to give both of the dragon twins the bare minimum screen time … side eye

Why did you call balon greyjoy eldest daughter coded?
because he is. i have a fake balon in my head who whispers that the reason he’s soft on asha is because he too is an older sister. not joke reason is related to my own beliefs regarding the greyjoy family dynamics, specifically balon & co being sons of a second wife of an ambitious and neglectful father. additionally, aeron’s musings on staying near balon in order to protect himself from euron.
while on some occasions, i do think that the praise balon receives can be reduced to king-subject relationship or just because he’s the heir then lord, victarion and aeron both think of balon as not just their brother the king but also as a model for their familial relationship.
if that makes sense, they may not like balon, but they trust balon. he has been there for them their entire life and so on.
#you know those older sisters who are awful and hate when their kid siblings follow them around and they bully them but still they’re family#you look up to them and model them and in turn they teach you and care for you (however concerning balon’s care may be)#house greyjoy#balon greyjoy#guava.ask#quellon greyjoy is my jaehaerys

Did you like Alicent’s arc this season ?
hm. it’s been a few months since so i think ive settled into my opinions on hotd s2. i was willing to forgive a lot of things that rubbed me the wrong way (nettles. rhaena. baela. their misuse of time.) as i think it’s important that hotd has the freedom to be able to do its own thing and build upon the frankly boring text to make it entertaining for tv but oh my god did they miss the mark. the sneaky sept prophecy scene. horrible, but i could forget it. the pacing. horrible, but i could forgive it. however, alicent sneaking into dragonstone irked me bad. genuinely the worst decision made this season i fear. we know the next thing that happens is rhaenyra taking the capital and having alicent as her prisoner, so why exactly are we doing this. if they really wanted this conversation, it should’ve been done when rhaenyra took the capital. now it just makes both of them look, for lack of a better term, goofy.
#short answer no#tbh season 2 minus criston minus harrenhal daemon minus the 0.2 seconds of larys and aegon scenes was a little ass#oh and rhaenys and corlys i love you and you have done nothing wrong ever#and frankly my maelor the missing is the age change of aegon iii and viserys bc what are we gonna do there next season…#alicent hightower#guava.ask

what do u think of rhaegon's parallels in f&b and hotd?
not going to lie struggled on answering this one, in f&b (and hotd) they’re the two main claimants and faces of the opposing teams we all know and love, but that’s just it: they’re just faces, figureheads and puppets in the decades long political power plays of those older and supposedly wiser than them (like otto, daemon, corlys, etc). fire and blood, while munkun nicknames the civil war as the dance of dragons, is about the dying of dragons and both of aegon and rhaenyra reflect the ongoing death of targaryen hegemony.
as individuals they are meant to challenge the validity of targaryen exceptionalism. aegon is the king’s first born son, all “symbols of legitimacy belong to him” but the symbols themselves were never a legitimate justification for the targaryen grasp on power which is shown in aegon’s unsuitability from his hedonistic behavior to violent rashness. the same goes for rhaenyra, neither of them are experienced in ruling, but expected it and everyone else to bend to their rule because they’re targaryen. it’s like they’re eternal children blindly following the path others set for them. one of the most ludicrous things they both do is aegon goes “what sort of brother steals his sister’s birthright” and then post-rhaenyra coronation demands her head. rhaenyra goes “my half-brothers and sister are innocent. let them bend the knee and they’re forgiven” and then abandons that at the quickest opportunity.
i think because they are raised to be in a false position of power where they are the queen/king but are not meant to make any of the decisions, it creates this extreme fear in both of them that they are just as easily replaced. which makes their defensive behavior toward each other, as well as the quick turn to offensive action more understandable.
#that’s what makes aegon iii a child at the end all the more compelling#not only as a commentary on war trauma and victims and what was it all for?#but as a demonstration of how they’ve been led by children all along#idk if that makes sense#guava.ask#rhaenyra targaryen#aegon ii#house targaryen

please. otto kicking aegon, to which aegon drunkenly says "brother?" ?!?!?! insane conflation of grandfather-brother and insaner implication
(and also, somewhat related, aemond clearly staring at alicent when asked who told him the strong bastard calumnies, yet saying "aegon"... what ARE they cooking... do they know...)
!!! i think it’s funny that they supposedly don’t like each other but are next to each other in like every scene. peak younger sibling energy following the elder around and then blaming them when something goes wrong. no but aemond saying it was aegon is actually the greatest example of trust between them because aemond trusts that aegon will fix the problem without implicating their mother
#also probably after storm’s end the whole party situation another aemond looking to his brother for what to do / as an example#aemond targaryen#aegon ii#guava.ask#calumnies is such a fun word#sibling tag

wait so im new to asoiaf why do people hate jaehaerys ?
jaehaerys is the bogeyman to every woman he comes in contact with. i can’t speak for everyone when i say this is the reason (there is no shortage of hateworthy men in asoiaf… looking at you hoster tully) but for me the absolute rage i have for jaehaerys comes down to him being at the center of every targ girl’s downfall. rhaena was disinherited for him. he disinherits his own daughter on account of her sex saying well she’ll be the queen as if that is any real power in the world he sets out to create. he cages his own wife (his sister) in the prison of queenhood leaving her to quote unquote more womanly pursuits like i don’t know getting rid of first right and domestic abuse? not to mention him marrying off his very young daughters to old ass men over and over again. not to mention the saera debacle and it’s many implications for his relationship to his daughters. and then of course when he disinherited yet another woman through rhaenys (and his own firstborn son just because his heir was a woman).
#viserys’ predecessor#i refuse to call j word by his name he fills me with such rage#NO BUT ITS ABOUT HIM NOT ONLY UPHOLDING A SYSTEM BUT CREATING THE VERY FOUNDATION THAT FUTURE CUNTS WILL USE TO JUSTIFY THEIR OPPRESSIVENES#asoiaf#house targaryen#guava.ask#and another thing he also is like objectively the least cool targ ever. everyone’s like oh he’s the best king blah blah#bc of the doctrine of exceptionalism (which created a whole new slew of problems) but no he was shit and just built roads.#alysanne was the real king 🙄 he called her political campaigns ‘female activities’ until ppl liked it and then he stole it bc he’s shit#objectively i think he’s supposed to serve as the example of how the iron throne corrupts and a ‘good king’ cannot be a good person#like they’re contradictory ideas and that’s his whole point. but also i hate him#if i wanted to stan a misogynist i would stan the greyjoy brothers. king balon would never 🙄#also ik aemon wasn’t actually the firstborn son but he was basically bc he was baby numero uno who made it to adulthood#jaehaerys the conciliator

what do you think about Aegon and Sunfyre’s bond
to start off, i generally believe that none of the green kids received a cradle egg with the exception of daeron. the only reason i think daeron had a cradle egg and not the others is because daeron was the child alicent had closest in age to jacaerys. viserys by then was super into his children and rhaenyra’s children being milk brothers and true family and all that jazz (i imagine because in some convoluted way he and rhaenyra are closer for it). i also don’t believe it was a deliberate oversight on viserys’ part, he just didn’t think of it as important until daeron’s birth; he and daemon never got cradle eggs and based on the “if you’re bold enough” line towards aemond, viserys seems to lean toward claiming being the ‘correct’ right of passage for a dragonrider.
anyways, in context for my general thoughts on aegon and sunfyre, this is significant because they did not grow up together. aegon claimed sunfyre. we know that sunfyre was born on the dragonmont and not in the pit, so i tend to lean toward sunfyre being a wild dragon prior toward their claiming. (*non-important, but i also think sunfyre is a hatchling of vermithor and silverwing). with aegon not having a dragon up until this point and having the associated pressures of being a targaryen without a dragon, as well as the firstborn son without a dragon or a birthright, there’s also a bit of an overcompensating aspect to aegon having the most beautiful golden dragon.
BUT THE BOND, the reason why they work so well and are my favorite dragon bond example is that aegon values sunfyre, not for his beauty or power, but for his loyalty. he values sunfyre not for what he means for him as a targaryen, but rather what it means for aegon as a person. hence, the usage of sunfyre as his personal sigil. sunfyre is the only being that sees aegon for aegon and is loyal to the man not the crown. everyone else in aegon’s life does not see him as a person but instead as a prop for their own political plays. he was born for one purpose and he falls short. but sunfyre doesn’t care about his ‘grand purpose’ or politics; sunfyre is loyal to aegon because he’s aegon.
the depth of that loyalty however is another fun character aspect of aegon that i haven’t exactly dug into before. essentially, i find it fascinating that in the end the son that saves alicent in king’s landing is not her favorite warriorson or her perfect knightson, but the drunk failson who while half-burnt and crippled did everything he could to get back to his mother. that and sunfyre flying miles, broken and injured, to save aegon. i think at the heart of their bond is that loyalty (whether or not it is selfish in nature is another thing).
#the selfish aspect anon is meaning that like aegon isn’t taking back KL and saving his mom for HER but for himself bc that’s HIS mother.#a very dragonlike view on loyalty#this wasn’t supposed to be so long lol#aegon ii#sunfyre#dragonposting#guava.ask#hotd

Actually there was a cut scene of Otto seeing the rat catchers and telling his aide "aw shit. Can we get some cats rq?'" but the show runners thought it was too on the nose.
had to end his career on a high note
#he was so mad running into criston and aegon as he had been overseeing the increase of cats all day to fix aegon’s mess#guava.ask

1. frankenstein blood magic baby maegor (i am such a fan of this it’s just canon in my head)
2. i’m an avid jace cole appreciator so there’s that
3. the theory that meera is jon’s twin is actually hilarious so def top 3
4. faegon
5. i saw this theory that viserys ii is daemon blackfyre’s father and like that does nothing for me and is definitely a symptom of daemyra brainrot but also i don’t not like it if that makes sense
