Frisian here, historically if you couldn't speak frisian, you would be the one executed.... Grutte Pier didn't mess around. Also, whenever I hear frisian in another part in the world, it will feel like home. So do learn Frisian, because it fun!
Here’s how to tell if a language is easy to learn
None of them are easy
They’re all stupid and terrible and will kick you in the nuts
That being said
Languages similar to ones you already speak
Languages you have a lot of motivation to learn
Languages that have a lot of resources and media to watch and/or listen to and/or read
So, if you’re reading this with relative ease (aka you speak English fluently) probably French or Spanish
Do whatever you want though idk
Don’t just choose a language based on how easy it is
Unless that’s what it takes to keep you motivated idk
Go learn Frisian or something

*Ahem* Might I offer for your inspiration the sword of Grutte Pier, a Frisian folk-hero (and yes, he actually existed) who was supposedly around 2,15 meters tall and strong enough to lift a cart-horse onto his shoulders, as well as behead several enemies with a single swing. The sword is 2,13 meters long and from the fifteenth century.
urge to make an oc who is head of the temple guard and casually wields a huge fucking zweihänder-sized lightsaber. like with a massive hilt and everything. i'm talking 16th century german battlesword type shit.
Tumblr media
he wears plate armor. he is huge. it is like he came to the galaxy far far away straight from a dark souls game. and anakin WILL be hearing boss music during o66.

⚔️ The zweihänder sword and helmet (presumably) belonged to Pier Gerlofs Donia (1480-1520), otherwise known as Grutte Pier (Greate Pier), Friesian pirate, warlord and folk hero of the late 15th century who sunk 132 enemy ship – including one battle where he destroyed 28 Dutch ships in a single day.
📝 The sword measures: Length - 2.13 m (7 ft) Weighs - about 6.6 kg (14.6 lb)
The Blade has the stamp “Inri” (Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews) The handle is made of oak and covered with goat skin in one piece, taken from the leg, that is, there is no seam. In all likelihood, this sword with identifying marks, came from Germany. The sword is on display in the Museum of Friesland (Fries Museum) in Leeuwarden. Collection Fries Museum Inv. Nr. H 185-C
Interesting facts: 📜 In 1515, Pier Gerlofs Donia's house was destroyed and burned by soldiers of George the Bearded (Georg der Bärtige, 1471-1539), Duke of Saxony, founder of the Albertine branch of the Wettin family. The Landsknechts raped and murdered Pierre's wife, after which hatred prompted him to take part in the Guelders Wars (Dutch: Gelderse Oorlogen) against the powerful Habsburgs, on the side of the Duke of Guelders, Charles II (1492-1538), a member of the House of Egmond.
📜 According to legend, Pier was around 7 feet (around 2.13 m) tall, and was so strong that he could bend a coin using just his thumb and forefinger.
📜 Another legend attesting to his great strength is that he was able to pick up a plough with just one hand.
📜 There is another legend that says that Greate Pier could cut down several heads with his sword at once.

It’s great to see how many fictional swords nowadays are based on real-life examples; many fit into the Oakeshott Typology, and Gregor Clegane’s sword is straight from an Albrecht Durer drawing of Irish gallowglass mercenaries in 1521.
Tumblr media
To understand why it’s so great, my memory has a permanent scar thanks to the horror from “The Sword and the Sorcerer” - triple bladed...
Tumblr media
...with the outer two rocket-propelled without any explanation I can recall...
youtube
Shudder...
                                                       ----------
There are a couple of places in the Historical Swords diagram where I’d have used different or more varied labels.
Example: the “two-handed sword” is so clearly drawn as a claymore that it’s surprising not to be named as such; likewise, the Greatsword is just as clearly a Landsknecht-era Zweihänder, complete with distinctive parrying-hooks on the blade. Even the longsword could be given the other common names, bastard sword or hand-and-a-half sword.
Why the quibble? Well, it’s an INFOgraphic, so a bit more info shouldn’t hurt.
                                                      -----------
Zweihänders are big, but the “Grutte Pier sword” almost certainly wasn’t for war, but was carried in peacetime parades. I posted why I thought so here; in short it’s the 14lb weight that rules out combat.  Fighting Zweihänders weighed about half that.
There’s also this photo of nearly identical matches in the Tower of London...
Tumblr media
...which are clearly labelled “Ceremonial bearing swords”.
Tumblr media
All of this is IMO, so YMMV, and that’s enough abbreviations for now.

Greatsword and Helm of Pier Gerlofs Donia (c. 1480 – 28 October 1520) who was a Frisian rebel leader and pirate. He is best known by his West Frisian nickname Grutte Pier ("Big Pier"; in the pre-1980 West Frisian spelling written as Greate Pier), or by the Dutch translation Grote Pier which referred to his legendary size and strength. West Frisia was a Germanic speaking northern province of the Netherlands.

Grutte Pier’s sword was 213 cm long, which strikes me as a very Bear School thing to have
Bear Witchers having extremely oversized weaponry is a delightful idea and I think I will adopt it forthwith!

The Zwingli artifacts sound like another example of armour and swords being associated with Famous Heroes whether they were or (far more often) not.
For instance, the (not) Sword of Grutte Pier, which you can read about here.
Also the (not) swords of William Wallace, St Maurice, Charlemagne and El Cid in this post here.
I can’t speak for the Zwingli stuff - even the Swiss National Museum’s article is being laudably cagey about provenance - but the other swords mentioned get their association tripped by being centuries out of whack from their supposed owners.
For instance, St Maurice, if he existed, lived around 280 AD, while the two “St Maurice” swords are both from no earlier than 1100 AD; the same "personality lived years before their swords existed” applies to Wallace, Charlemagne and El Cid.
As for Grutte Pier, “his” sword, hugely oversized and overweight as explained by his reputation, was really a "bearing-sword” for carrying in processions, and I found photos of near-identical - size, weight, the lot - swords in the Tower Armouries.
Here’s the Grutte Pier sword:

Here are the Tower swords. If a picture says a thousand words, here’s 2k of my opinion... :->

Also I think out of all the Protestant Reformers, John Calvin would be easiest to take down in a bare knuckle brawl. Theology aside, Zwingli was a bruiser, and Luther seems like he would fight people for fun. Jan Hus is a big “???”. Curbstomping Knox would be my pleasure. Tyndale and Cranmer, I could probably take, but Wikipedia’s list of Anglican Protestant Reformers includes Thomas Cromwell and I think that guy knew how to do pro wrestling moves.
I’m not going to fight any of the Anabaptists, that shit’s just sad.

This 7 feet (2.13 meters) sword belonged to Pier Gerlofs Donia aka Grutte Pier, a 16th century Frisian rebel leader who was slightly taller than his sword. Picture was taken in 1951 at the Museum of Friesland in Leeuwarden, Holland, where the sword is still on display today. [990x1309] Check this blog!

There is a great sword on display in the Frisian Museum in Leeuwarden, that is rumoured to have belonged to a legendary Frisian rebel Grutte Pier. The sword is about 7 ft long, and weighs 14.6 pounds. Pier was a farmer/rebel/pirate, and was supposed 7ft + and inhumanly strong. Is that feasible? I thought it sounded unreasonably large and heavy, but maybe legendary folk hero sword was really used by legendary folk hero?
That’s like, Ridiculous God Mode sword. He could maybe pull it off because he was like, basically Superman, but most of us mere mortals would be like “Nah man there’s no fucking way”
