Summer season features five new ports of call in Europe and returns to Alaska, Caribbean and Bahamas

CELEBRATION, Fla. (Feb. 28, 2019) – In summer 2020, Disney Cruise Line will embark on a variety of itineraries around the world, including a long-awaited return to Greece and the addition of five first-time ports of call in Europe. Along with an expanded European season aboard the Disney Magic, adventures will continue across the fleet with sailings to Alaska, the Caribbean and Bahamas.

European Explorations

After a five-year hiatus, the Disney Magic will return to Greece in summer 2020 as part of three special Mediterranean voyages departing from Rome. During one 12-night and two nine-night cruises, guests can marvel at the beautiful landscapes and archeological wonders of destinations like Piraeus, the gateway to Athens; Katakolon, near ancient Olympia; and the islands of Santorini, Mykonos and Crete.

Each of these unique Mediterranean itineraries combines a selection of stops in Greece with visits to other notable cities in the region. Two of the sailings include a new port of call in Messina, Italy, where guests can visit landmarks in Sicily such as Mount Etna, the highest and most active volcano in Europe, or the Piazza del Duomo, the city’s historic center. The third features a return to the “Pearl of the Adriatic,” Dubrovnik, Croatia, for the first time in five years.

Additional new ports of call in Europe include Gdynia, Poland; Nordfjordeid, Norway; Plymouth, England; and Zeebrugge, Belgium. This new collection of destinations is part of the Disney Magic’s grand tour of Europe in the summer of 2020, which begins with sailings through the Mediterranean and Greek Isles before heading to northern Europe in late summer for cruises to the Baltic, British Isles and Norwegian fjords.

Alaskan Adventures

In 2020, the Disney Wonder will return to Alaska for the summer season, opening up a world of breathtaking natural vistas, magnificent glaciers and awe-inspiring wildlife. These seven-night itineraries depart from Vancouver, Canada, with visits to Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point and Dawes Glacier. Each sailing features fun and adventure both in port and on the ship, from stunning scenery and one-of-a-kind Port Adventures in each destination to special touches that bring the splendor and spirit of Alaska to life onboard.

Tropical Travel to the Caribbean and Bahamas

If you are the type of traveler who likes to get off property and explore, head for a casual soak at the hot springs, hike up a volcano, catch wind on a sailing trip, or hop on a bike and see where the path takes you.

Travelers looking for a break from the typical tropical vibe and constant humidity that comes with most Caribbean beach vacations should head to Aruba. Somewhat of an outlier for the region, this small island has an arid climate and is covered in succulents. Don’t worry, this desert island still has palm trees, fantastic beaches, and plenty of stuff to keep you busy should you ever tire of catching sun on the sand. For starters, the frequent tradewinds are great for kitesurfing and windsurfing, hiking and ATV rides in Arikok National Park are adventurous land activities, and there’s a fun pirate ship snorkel tour that visits a shipwreck. Shopping and restaurants are abundant in the downtown area. Check out colorful murals and sculptures throughout the artsy neighborhood of St. Nicolas, and you can learn a but about the island’s Dutch colonial history at its museums. There’s also an ostrich farm, flamingos, and a good ol’ rum tour. The best part? Aruba is outside of the hurricane belt, so you can visit year-round.

Barcelos Aruba is an upscale all-inclusive whose biggest boon is its stellar location right on the stunning sand of Palm Beach. The only downside is that you’ll likely have to work some strategies to secure your beach chairs. Rooms are spacious and simple but sophisticated with tile floors, dark wood furniture, and white walls. You’ll get AC, a balcony, and comfy beds. There are seven restaurants on-site and three well-placed bars: one at the pool, one on the beach, and one in the lobby. The lagoon-style pool (and its swim-up bar) is a popular spot during the day, while nights are pretty relaxed. If you want to bump up your experience, spend a little more to upgrade to the resort’s Royal level. You’ll get free Wi-Fi, a special check-in lounge, access to top shelf liquor at the beach bar, and free room service.

Included in the budget: Since Barcelo Aruba is an all-inclusive property, there’s not much you have to worry about once you walk through the doors. You’ll get all your meals, drinks (including domestic beer, wine, and well liquor), and free rein of the resort’s pool and beach area. However, any money you spend at the casino will cost you extra.

It’s no secret that we love Mexico, especially Riviera Maya, so of course we’ve worked out a way to have a luxe Mexican beach vacation without breaking the bank. Take a long weekend and head south of the border where you’ll have a quick escape full of warm water, sandy beaches, and excellent eats. Playa del Carmen is a bustling beach town with a long pedestrian-only promenade, tons of bars and restaurants, and a big, beautiful beachfront. It’s true that it’s very heavy on tourists, but there’s also some great unique activities, like an immersive dinner at the Frida Kahlo Museum that uses dishes and video mapping to tell the story of the artist’s life, or a beer walking tour with local guides. The resort we’ve picked is just an 11-minute drive from the action on Quinta Avenida (note: we didn’t include this transfer in the budget).

In Riviera Maya, it can feel like all-inclusive resorts are a dime a dozen, but Royal Hideaway Playacar stands out in the crowd. Head on over to the hair salon or barber shop to style your locks! The choices really are endless here.

Personally, I love their Balinese massage, Thalassotherapy pool and thermal area — I had the chance to try them out while I was on MSC Seaside and by the end of the day, I was surely begging for more of it all!

For the fitness buffs out there, you can also keep up with your workout goals with the ship’s state-of-the-art Sports Center that has spectacular sea views and leading-edge equipment in partnership with Technogym. But if you want some sun, there is an open air Sports Arena on the topmost deck where you can play basketball or soccer!

On the other hand, if you want a different way to blow off steam, MSC Seaside has a range of stores to satiate the shopaholic in you: from jewelry to branded watches, you’ll find it all on board! .

#7 – Spectacular waterfront design and bridges

The incredible thing about MSC Seaside is how it can easily be its own seaside town! After all, with its spectacular wide design as well as the number of al fresco lounge areas that it has, sailing through the Caribbean seas will be a joy to do as you go through your daily itinerary.

This is obviously not for the faint-hearted (like me), but it’s worth going through it at least once! .

#8 – Wide range of entertainment spaces and programs

Every day, there are a hundred of things that can keep guests of MSC Seaside busy and entertained!

Daily programs and parties: The crew sets daily activities that anyone could join such as themed parties (e.g. ‘White Party’, ‘Great Gatsby’, etc.), movie nights, dance classes, trivia quizzes, karaoke shows, and so much more!

Theater Shows: There are usually 3 different show times on MSC Seaside’s Metropolitan Theater each evening, and you can easily book your spot for FREE on the MSC for Me application on your phone or on one of the interactive screens throughout the ship. If you ask me, my personal favorite would be ‘Timeless’ which features an amazing tribute to Michael Jackson.

Atrium: This grand 4-storied area might just be the most luxurious spot on MSC Seaside. Apart from catching a live band or DJ on stage, you could also come and enjoy a drink at the Seaside Bar and enjoy the view from its expansive design and views.

TRIVIA: Don’t forget to go through the sparkling staircases that are actually made of Swarovski crystals.

Miami Casino: For some adult fun, there’s always the casino where you can try and win big!

Others: Includes billiard room, library, sports bar, arcade, etc. .

#9 – Fun adrenaline and water activities for all ages

Aside from the Caribbean’s blue waters and white beaches, MSC Seaside has its own water park on board to help keep guests ‘soaked’ with fun (especially on days when the ship is cruising at sea).

Just beside the park are two (2) additional water slides that are positioned on each side of the ship. One is a double slide with clear tubes and another which is bigger that could fit two people in for a wild ride!

If you’re seeking extra adrenaline, don’t forget to try the two (2) 350-feet zip lines which are said to be the longest at sea! Besides, it’s not everyday that you can do something like this, right? .

MSC Seaside may be a 5,000-passenger ship but their 24-hour concierge staff will and always be attentive to everyone’s needs! Still, if you want added exclusivity and privacy, you better check out the MSC Yacht Club for a more luxurious cruise experience.

It is not freestyle dining like Norwegian, etc. Make sure to bring EVENING attire. Sister to the Disney Wonder, the Disney Magic boasts 11 expansive decks, a total length of 964 feet, a maximum width of 106 feet and an astonishing gross tonnage of 83,000. Aboard the ship,2,700 passengers can fit comfortably, and 950 Cast and Crew Members are on hand to accommodate the needs of each and every Guest, day and night. Palo: If you want to make reservations for Champagne Brunch, High Tea, or even special dinner, go to Palo. Deck 10 Aft. Dress shirt and Jacket recommended. Taking it’s name from the poles that line the canals of Venice, Palo is an elegant, yet relaxed setting just for adults. Here, you’ll dine on Northern Italian cuisine that can be enjoyed as appetizers or main courses. A great panoramic view of the sea.

Animator’s Palate: Where you can dine for dinner at one of the evening’s times. Deck 4 Aft. This area is so cool. You are surrounded by great artistic work all over the walls, etc! While you are eating the animation around you transforms from stunning black and white to full color as your meal progresses.

Beer and Wine Tasting: Usually they have these events onboard on your “Day at Sea” which are pretty fun! They do usually cost extra.

Family Towel Folding: Learn how to fold towels in Disney Figures like they do.

Ice Carving Demonstrations: These are cool! Watch how they create their ice sculptures.

Photo Ops: Don’t miss the photo opportunities after dinner, going ashore, and especially the last day with all of the characters.

Mickey Trivia: They usually have these types of games during the day. Pay! It’s fun!

Character Appearances: They will be at the Sail Away and also throughout the day. Check your “Personal Navigator” that they provide to you in your stateroom.

Swimming Pools: Mickey’s Pool and Mickey’s Slide are all on Deck 9 Aft. You can actually see Mickey in the water. Goofy’s Pool is on Deck 9 as well but midship. Quiet Cove is on Deck 9 Forward and for guest 18 and above.

Pirates in the Caribbean Party!: When I was on the Disney Wonder they did a pirate night. Dinner was all Pirate themed (I still have the menu) as well as the Pirate Party on the Deck (deck 9). They even had fireworks go off! So awesome!
