Neil really isn't a reliable judge of cowardice because:
1)His standard of bravery is his mother, a woman who escaped with her son from her murderer mob boss husband because he was going to sell him to the mob but also decided she deserved alimony so she stole millions from her husband and his boss, and then evaded capture with her 10-year child in tow for 8 years across numerous countries. That's a hell of a bias to working with.
(Sorry Kevin, you were never going to beat Neil's mother in his rankings of "Bravest People I Know.")
2)Calling people cowards, or insinuating they're being cowards is like Neil's go-to insult. He just throws it out there all the time at everyone. And he does because it works.
Neil calls people cowardly for several purposes:
-He's trying to piss them off on purpose (Neil insults Riko during the interview by saying he's scared of facing Kevin.)
-He's trying to get them to do something and using it in a "don't be a fucking coward. just do it." sort of way (When he's trying to get Aaron to work things out with Andrew, he accuses Aaron of being too scared to face up to his mother's death so that he'd actually realize that's what he needs to work out with his brother. At the same time, he persuades Katelyn by telling her that she needs to stop being "collateral damage" and fight for herself. And somehow it works.)
-He's fishing for a reaction (After the Columbia incident, he insinuates that Andrew was too scared to point fingers at Drake and failed to protect the other kids all because he wanted Andrew to express his actual emotions.)
Whether or not he actually believes them to be cowards is almost besides the point. The fact is that by suggesting that they are cowards, Neil manages to make a lot of people dance to his tune.
Is it the best way to get people do things? Probably not. But it's a tactic that works for Neil.
All this to say, I don't think Neil calls Kevin a coward to express his disgust in him, I think he's doing it because, to him, "You're a coward", means "Hold strong and fight back."

I keep seeing people respond to the Microsoft Recall bullshit with there's an ability to disable it and that misses the point. Several points in fact.
It's only a matter of time until an update bugs/"bugs" it and re-enables it without warning so people who had previously disabled it think they're in the clear until their info is leaked or they get a warning they're low on storage space.
If people don't have admin rights, they may not be able to disable it. Laptops given by work or school lock down what people can do with them, some going as far as dictating which browser one has to use on them. Even if you don't need admin rights to disable Recall, you may not have the ability to do so without losing the laptop and/or job and/or education.
I'm unsure of how it would handle multiple accounts but if it can be locked by someone else to always be enabled, children and people in abusive situations would also be unable to disable it. Even if it can't be locked, disabling it could result in punishment from a parent or the abuser.
Is it really disabled or is it "disabled" in that what the user sees is it being disabled while it's still collecting information and/or sending information to Microsoft in the background?
Such a feature should never have been automatically enabled in the first place. It's bad, predatory design to have such a feature enabled from the start and to expect users AKA customers to go out of their way to look up and then opt-out of something.
If disabling it really disables it, it can still result in stress and concern that it's not. The vast majority of people do not have the skills or knowledge to look into the OS guts to give themselves peace of mind that it really truly is disabled.
I'm sure I'm missing some, too.
TLDR is disabling is a bandaid someone else may rip off for you, someone may hurt you if you use, it may not work at all except as a placebo, and should have never been needed in the first place.
#that's not even touching on the legal aspect where it existing at all violates laws for some regions/companies/governments#the ability to disable also doesn't matter if you're barred from ever disabling it in the first place#how long until parents start berating/grounding/beating their kid(s) for 'using up all the storage space'?#and if google's 'ai' is anything to go by recall will have limited use and get things wrong#while also being a privacy and safety nightmare#there's already a history feature in windows and your browser of choice (plus bookmarks in said browser)#to me this smacks of find a use for something they developed without having a use first#while also adding a way for employers to spy on/control workers at a time when working from home is much more common#because while some employers will ban it others will use it to spy on employees and require it be enabled#'if you don't want us to know your personal passwords don't use work computers for personal browsing or accounts'#but also don't use your personal devices or pee outside of designated pee breaks as recall won't trigger if you're in the same spot#can't even set up a slow scroll or anything because the screenshots will show them you were on the same page for however long

Revisiting an older style
#Tried it using my current and old brush just to see XP#the thing about the HB pencil is it’s REALLY good for like depth and thick/thin strokes but it’s so hard for me to get it right#on the other hand blotchy is easier to control cause it keeps a consistent width but it only has like 2 settings. thin line or thick/thin#AND it’s at a specific size so it’s hard to get a good middle ground#talking out of my ass run but I’m just very inconsistent with art styles and brushes and I just learned to accept it#yapping#doodles#my art#myart#Augusta

I’ve started riding Fjara to help my dad with her tripping (read: he likes to ride with a long loose rein and Fjara ends up tipping forward).
The first two times we were still getting used to one another, she’s still trying to gauge why the heck I’m asking her for turns and to do a few steps backwards and walk sideways a little.
Today I decided to take a different path around the farm and Fjara was particularly high in her energy, so when we turned to go back her back curled a little and her tempo went up…
And I’m sitting on her all impressed at the energy but also please don’t do a happy buck, I’m still getting used to how different you are from my regular horse 😅
#she’s a fun one!#I know that from like…the ground#now I’m learning it in the saddle#really gotta find my ‘grip’ so to say bc where Lilja is short and slight Fjara is tall and broad#I can’t even get on her without a step 😅#Lilja? no problem. I’m still convincing her that steps aren’t evil so I can get on better but y know#if there’s a problem and I need to get off I know I can also climb back on sort of gracefully#Fjara is a damn mountain! and broad!#and her saddle gives a lot less grip so to say#you can do a happy buck after a few more rides miss missy#but she is very sensitive and polite. she might want to return to Lilja buuuut she’ll still listen to my directions#has a good stop#loves praise for doing a good job#my dad doesn’t utilise that enough#yet#and her tölt and walk are asdfghjkl right now but I can get that back to some decent gaits#some groundwork and some more time under the saddle and a bit more help for my dad and she’ll be a-okay 👌👌👌#*myhorses#Fjara frá Skjálg#oh! and I rode Lilja bitless#she seems to love it and I love that#just gotta find the middle bit where she doesn’t just go lalala when she wants to go fast and I don’t#it’s not out of control but more like … well….lalala can’t hear you wheeeer#it’s a test for us to see if it helps her with tension#Lilja shows her teeth when in a faster gait and I’ve tried many bits and different things with my hands#I still get a ‘smile’#I’m also going to see if I can find a soft bit#and ask a bitfitter for advice#if anything just to rule out any discomfort in her mouth#there’s no bruising or anything that I can find

I've now tried the rally race in my summer car and I think I'm going to quit this game forever.
The physics in this game are way too janky for rally driving
#youve hit a slight bump in the road. your car flips. youre on straight flat ground. your car keeps bouncing for no reason and makes you veer#ive tried it like 10 times now and the only time the car didnt flip or lose control on nothing i was dead last#so it feels like the options are dead last or dnf because of how jank driving is in this game#i could try using a controller but remapping the whole game to hopefully make it playable sucks

#there's something really beautiful about experiencing the weather patterns of a new place#where i live now. its not like where i grew up. not like the foothills of Appalachia but its more familiar than the Chihuahuan desert was#when i go home to ohio everythings so green. so green. unimaginably green and the towns are in the woods. the hills roll#and trees billow deciduous and packed so tightly the treeline is like a wall of plant matter. here there are trees but they are tall and#evergreen. patchy in places like shrubs in the desert. the grass grows green but also pale tan and dead. houses are routed in valleys#between mountains. they're made of wood and not stucco but they still look strange and the landscape is crumpled together tall. and there's#water. it rains. days can be dreary and gray with drizzle. i forgot what thats like. when a single low stratus cloud blocks out thewhole sk#and fog clings to the trees. my school bus used to drive by a lake where thr fog was so thick i didnt kno how the driver could see the road#but somehow i forgot how much joy suspended water vapor gives me living in a place where when it rains it pours so hard the streets flood#and the greedy ground drinks the landscape dry. but there are new things as well. here smoke rolls up over thr mountains and gets stuck in#the valleys so that the weather forcast reads: Smoke for days on end. im used to tornado warnings and heat warnings and dust storm warnings#but ive never expected Smoke as a type of weather. and im sure there's more to experience. ive only been here like 3 weeks. its not as gree#as home. the storms dont seem to get quite so violent. the woods are so full of bears that its an active threat. but its not the desert#and while ill miss the shapes of desert plants and little lizards. when i look up at the pine and spruce trees i feel like i can breathe a#little easier. well see how i feel once the long cold winter sets in haha#but i dunno. part of me still longs for a violent thunderstorm. one where u can feel the temperature drop and u csn feel it building all da#one that bends the trees and smells like ozone. it was never like that in thr southwest and im not sure that happens here#but maybe thats just a desire for chaos and violence as a product of my pathological internal control. i cant be spontaneous so let nature#bring the fear to me. some of my favorite memories are watching lightning strikes#so it goes i suppose#unrelated#listen. is it fucked up to have ohio nostalgia? maybe so. but in my defense i grew up in the pretty part of ohio lol
