GRIMDARK mode is described by Doc scratch as “going completely off the deep end in every way”.

It turns your skin an unnatural dark gray, and in rose’s case to be surrounded by a dark aura, while jade had a spacey green aura.

It’s basically a black magic power up deeply connected to the horroterrors, a state of mind that comes from letting them influence a broken mind. For Rose, it was the death of her mother, and then trying to reveal the horror terror’s secrets. For Jade, she was heartbroken, but also she got mind controlled into entering the grimdark state by the condesce, who is also connected to the horrorterrors.

As an extra, Hussie described Eridan as also going into grimdark when he began murdering people, tho his case must’ve been more symbolical, as he presented the perfect scenario to become grimdark, the complete loss of hope, waiting for Jack to kill them all (due to his title being prince of hope, ergo Destroyer of hope) added to Feferi breaking their moiraliance talking with Sollux, being the detonator for his broken mind, and him being a Derse player, so his dream self was around the horroterrors and had interacted with them prior, he was also interested in magic like rose, had a wand just like her and sought for answers about, like her. He just lacked the connection to the horroterrors in that crucial moment.

So Grimdark is basically when the horroterrors cause the player's most primal and violent tendencies to be pushed to the forefront

The grimdark is also described a “the fabled blackdeath trance of the woegothics”. So a dark trance that people like Rose and Eridan are inclined to fall victim of (in my opinion)

TRICKSTER mode, in the other hand, is described by Calliope as something that brings out your full potential, that brings all your walls down and puts all your inner thoughts in the outside and all your creative power in your hands. It strips you from all social and mental barrier.

It gives you reality altering Powers, allowing you to jump from place to place, probably dimension hopping, manifest objects and makes you super happy and candy colored to the point of losing grip in reality

The problem is that cherubs are very different from humans. For a cherub, who is supposed to fly around in the endless space protecting/destroying a certain part of the void, and its inhabited planets, feeding of black holes, fighting entities to death to ultimately mate in the shape of a big ass snake, a juju that’s basically drugs that can make you forget every wall you built up floating around space alone, and move forward as a happy missile ready to find a mate sounds good. But humans are social creatures, and cherubs are not. Cherubs don’t answer to anyone and don’t have Friends, they don’t need to follow any social cues. Humans built their relationships carefully, and they have secrets and barriers to protect themselves and others. They hide things like crushes and resentment and problems, because well, for the sake of peace, for the sake of not braking every relationship they have. That’s something that Calliope and Caliborn never fully grasped and understood why the kids came to hate the juju when they woke up

So that’s all I could gather. Essentially they are different kinds of power ups, opposite to one another at their core, BUT in both the person isn’t fully there and is being guided by primal instincts, be it rage/sadness or Hope/happiness and they both have consequences in the user because neither is supposed to be used on humans or even trolls.

Namesake: Green Day song

Jesus of Sburbia allows it's user to create a room around them, then disassemble any non living object into a currency. The stand can then rebuild anything it can either see or remember disassembling at the cost of said currency. It may also store objects inside it that the user might want to use later on.

Rose Lalonde: Nightwish

Namesake: Finnish metal band

Nightwish takes the form of a lovecraftian tentacle monster, and has the power to peer into the minds of it's opponents and scan for their worst fears. It can then shapeshift into the fears and cast grimdark illusions into the opponents mind.

Dave Strider: Deltron

Namesake: Rap Group

Deltron works differently than your average stand master relationship. Instead of the normal "Kill the stand kill the user." rule most stands apply to, if the stand or user is defeated, the remaining one will pull from another timeline (more likely to find doomed Daves anyway) and use their spirit to replace the stand. However, this weakens the user and stand until the merging process is complete.

Jade Harley: Sweet Trip

Namesake: Indie Rock band

Sweet Trip is a combat based stand that mostly focuses on guns. It has the secondary ability to set these guns to teleport objects by firing a bullet somewhere and then shooting a second target, in which case the shot target takes the place of the fired bullet.

Aradia Megido: Tornado of Souls

Namesake: Megadeth song

Tornado of Souls can put people in a sort of sleep paralyses, freezing an opponent in place. During this process, Tornado of Souls can implant memories of deceased people known to the victim and torment them.

Tavros Nitram: Rhapsody

Namesake: Power Metal band

Rhapsody is a rallying stand that allows it's user to enter talks with and recruit any creature to their cause, acting like a translator between the two.

Sollux Captor: Remain in Light

Namesake: Talking Heads album

Remain in Light is a two headed stand that allows it's user to pinpoint two objects to fall under the effects of RiL. Once they are, the stand can both produce powerful beams as well as transfer any feeling from one target to the other. (For example, if Sollux was to punch someone under RiL, the impact of the punch could transfer to the other person, having them feel the impact)

Karkat Vantas: Death Grips

Namesake: Experimental hip-hop group

Death Grips is probably the weakest stand in terms of pure combat potential in the session. However, it's main ability lies in it's ability to infiltrate electronic systems and destroy them, no matter how complex. If a device is turned off while Death Grips is still inside, it will go haywire and destroy the machine beyond repair. If Death Grips is inside a shut down machine for too long, it will start to lose power and die.

Nepeta Leijon: 100 Gecs

Namesake: Hyperpop duo

100 Gecs is a colony stand made up of 100 small catlike creatures. They can be controlled by Nepeta for either attacks with their claws or using them to cover herself or allies for defensive purposes.

Kanaya Maryam: Black Halo

Namesake: Kamelot album

Black Halo allows it's user to remove the light from anything it comes across, storing the light to either illuminate areas or blind others. When a lot of light is collected, BH can fire it in concentrated beams or throw it as a shield

Terezi Pyrope: Follow the Leader

Namesake: Korn album

Follow the Leader forces it's user to follow their own moral code, whatever that may be. If the victim is forced to break their moral code through things like peers and circumstances beyond their control, FtL slowly begins to hurt the victim. If they reject their own morals too much, the pain will kill them.

Vriska Serket: Mind Fuzz

Namesake: King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard album

Mind Fuzz takes the form of a spidery woman with eight legs. Once one of these legs touches a victim they become temporarily mind controlled and forced to enact Vriska's bidding. Vriska can also shake it's limbs and it will randomly point a leg upwards or downwards. If all eight point upwards (surprisingly more likely than you'd think) Vriska can make a wish to alter the area around her.

Equius Zahark: Powerslave

Namesake: Iron Maiden album

Powerslave allows it's user to drain the strength from their opponent and add it to the stand, while the stand can transfer the gathered strength to either Equius or others around him.

Gamzee Makara: Atrocity Exhibition

Namesake: Danny Brown album

Actrocity Exhibition is a combat stand that can also produce an extremely high frequency noise that drives people into a manic state as well as heightening their senses. The user is not immune from this, often adding to the mania.

Eridan Empora: Headmaster Ritual

Namesake: The Smiths song

Headmaster Ritual works as a science powered stand with full access to the periodic table, being able to change any two elements. This runs the risk of creating extremely volatile changes, so using the stands secondary ability of channeling the elements into objects such as wands or guns is all but nessesary to avoid harm to the user.

Feferi Peixes: Queen of the Stone Age

Namesake: Metal band

Queen of the Stone Age is a wearable stand dedicated to helping the ruler survive any sort of pressure and move along any sort of surface, be it from lava, water, space, etc. Feferi can also extend the stand to anyone she's physically touching.

i also really liked gamzee back in the day!! i was always kinda upset more effort wasn't put into trying to help him get better- especially when it got to the point an endearing character was just written off to be eternally a villain. so many time shenanigans to help bring back others/help others mental health, and yet gamzee was always just written off as a crazed murderer after a certain point?? felt like he stopped being a character and just became a force of nature. i like your more in depth look into the specific trauma he faced, makes him more like an actual person!

im so glad you like my interpretation of gamzee!! i was always really upset by how he was completely denied redemption after being introduced as a such a sweet and neglected kid who was in touch with his feelings enough to entirely reject acceptance of violence in his society. the narrative treats him really weirdly, i'm so glad i can talk about gamzee redemption+positivity with others!!

another thing i think about a lot is how rage is introduced in the narration as a biological function in highblooded trolls, but gamzee is still seen as culpable for his actions while in the rage state. tbf, its terrifying, but rose was never blamed for being manipulated by doc scratch into becoming grimdark the way gamzee is into becoming rage induced. it's all very weird. but also, i think moirails existing to 'tame a highbloods rage' is completely fucked and victim-blamey in a way, like 'oh you failed to calm his rage that's why he's bad now' and being built this way sets up a negative relationship. karkat's conflicted love and fear of gamzee makes me very sad and i dont think he should have the responsibility of caring for gamzee alone. it bothers me in fics when karkat cares for gamzee alone, because i dont think karkat's feelings for gamzee are unique; karkat's got like, four best friends. more even. sollux, terezi, kanaya, gamzee and dave all end up close to karkat and i think acting as a community would be more important and effective than a lone moralliegence with any one of them. bugs work together moment.

i'm also very invested in stories about creatures coexisting and caring for another who are biologically distinct, which i think i loved about the trolls from when i was 13. i really liked that the trolls were struggling against their 'fates' and the heavy pressure of biological essentialism in their society. i remember reading inverted caste fics where the same traits were instead seen as weaknesses rather than romanticized as strengths and being totally fascinated. thats why in bugstuck rage isnt thrown out as a concept, but instead changed as something similar to a prey drive in animals. some of my original fiction is gonna be all about stuff like this, acting as criticism and discussion of media like zootopia and beastars. im embarrassed to talk so much but thanks for listening! gonna reblog this with some more info

eridan and gamzee have some sort of reason for their killing, eridan was clearly not in the right mental state and also went grimdark (honestly not much i can say i about him because i’ve don’t a lot more research on gamzee), gamzee was being controlled by lord english and also was too sober to handle the cold truth that all of his “friends” would make fun of him, and the extremely fast realization that his friends weren’t laughing with him, but they were laughing at him. he felt like he needed to escape the role of being a joke, he had nothing against equius or nepeta it was just wrong time wrong place(this doesn’t excuse that he killed, but it more an explanation of why he killed). vriska on the other hand was an abuser who hurt MULTIPLE people and people say that we can excuse this because she was groomed and say shit like “vriska did no wrong���. vriska never even really became a better person or took accountability for what she did, she just said “yeah i’ve done some pretty shity things lmao” and get away with it. whenever someone says something like “i don’t like vriska because she’s a genuinely terrible person who hurt and manipulated multiple people” they’re either called misogynistic or have internalized misogyny which isn’t true (most of the time), hating a female character DOESNT make you a misogynistic woman hater.

also we need to stop calling gamzee a clown. even if he has a lot of the same attributes of a clown he does not like being called a clown nor does he agree with the idea of being a clowns, given that clown are people who want to make other laugh at their own misfortune, gamzee wants to make people laugh but he doesn’t want to be that joke.

Eridan had defended himself when Feferi attacked him, despite their agreement on the duel. Part of why he was in the wrong is not only because morally or that they were friends, but also the fact that it was a violetblood killing a fuchsiablood. Someone who is on top got killed by someone lower. And it is against the rules. Even if said rules should not carry over since Alternia is gone, it still holds over in a meta-narrative sense of what readers know about the customs and culture of their planet. Another was that he destroyed the Matriorb. One could argue that even if it wasn't destroyed by Eridan, then it would be Jack Noir himself after finding the trolls' hideout, as it is seen that he would have eventually killed everybody there. Others see it as Eridan fulfilling his promise on committing genocide to his race, as he had once mentioned before of killing land dwellers when he was on Alternia. Some could see also Eridan destroying the Matriorb at the time, would lead to The Condesce being unable to rebuilt her troll empire, as Gl'bgolyb would eventually kill all the lusus, even the Mother Grub that would have been on board the ship at the time The Condesce traveled to Earth, preventing her from getting a Matriorb through her own Mother Grub. That's why she had to kidnap Roxy. She may have known the other Matriorb from the previous session, was destroyed because Skaia and Paradox Space said it had to happen. And no one can question Skaia or Paradox Space on how things should be to continue the timeline. All the bad things had to have happened. Any self improvement on the trolls themselves as a whole or individuals, are deemed to be part of Doomed Timelines and irrelevant. Eridan had at least apologized to Feferi and mutual with Sollux even after they had fused to become Erisolsprite^2. Why else didn't they explode like Tavriskasprite had? So even SOLLUX had some empathy of what Eridan was feeling. The only thing he was not able to do was saying sorry to Kanaya. How could one apologize for that? Would Kanaya even listen to him? It's complicated that death was the only was for him to atone. It has been said that Karkat tried to continue pacifying Gamzee, but eventually got tired. Part of it is that he was unaware that Gamzee was being controlled by Lord English. It makes me wonder if there would have been a way to prevent him from being influenced by LE, before or after Murderstuck. When Post Retcon happened that Vriska was alive and stopped Gamzee (only after Murderstuck happened so Equius and Nepeta), why doesn't Karkat question about why Gamzee was acting this way or why it was VRISKA who needed to stop him so the timeline can continue. Doesn't Karkat even feel no pity or empathy that he would still be locked in the fridge (in the Meat Timeline), never to see Earth C? How does Candy Karkat feel about Gamzee being DEAD? He still cares about Dave, fuck that clown that was his 'best friend'. His new best friend and lover is Dave. Who the FUCK is Sollux? For Eridan, he was emotionally unstable and not in the right mindset to make the best choices. Gamzee was being mind controlled by Lil Cal and was also mentally unstable upon learning the truth about his religion. Vriska, however, had full control of everything she did and she made those choices on her on conscience, knowing the consequences that will come. She was still sane and aware of what may happen and yet, she has the choice of going through redemption arc how many times now at this point? So it's fine for Vriska to have that many times of redeeming herself, but Eridan and Gamzee can't?

HS Fingernail Headcannons

I don't know why I started thinking about this but I did. This includes the beta kids + trolls

(Disclaimer I am still on act 5 (Just got to grimdark Rose) so if there's some missing info that's why)

Jade, Dave, Aradia, and Feferi would probably cut their nails short. Aradia for archeology purposes, Feferi for taking care of sea creatures, and Jade for gardening purposes. Dave would probably keep his short to keep up his "cool dude" schtick.

Rose, Vriska, Terezi, Kanaya have manicured/painted nails. Kanaya likes to upkeep her appearance, Vriska probably got pointy claw like nails painted blue since Mindfang (I think) has them and Terezis are the same just painted black because why not. Rose's are also black but cut short

(I also believe during SBURB Rose kinda forgets about her nails so they're kinda overgrown and when she goes grimdark they become pointy + black)

Possibly Eridan has manicured nails because he's a little vain or just cares about his appearance like Kanaya does

Karkat, Tavros and John are nail biters. Karkat barely realizes he's doing it. John knows it's not good but does it anyway and Tavros is just a nervous nail biter.

Sollux is either a nail cutter for beekeeping or a nail biter like John is. I can't decide

Gamzee, Equius and possibly Nepeta let their nails just grow out. Nepeta does some small upkeep if they start to snag on things (And possibly helps Equius with his when they start snagging) while Gamzee's nails might not grow that fast in the first place so they look kinda short (maybe bc of the pies but idk)

What did Gamzee do after the events of the meteor pre and post retcon? The wiki page just made me more confused.

Ooh, here's an interesting one.

One thing to keep in mind is that while a lot of earlier acts made a point of showing exactly what happened to cause things to occur, characters to be in certain places and have certain things happen to them, Act 6 (and more specifically, Act 6 Act 6) tend to throw that out of the window. This is a choice made for a number of reasons: for one, showing every single thing that happens to each character would take forever, especially for two or more timelines worth. Also, narrative obfuscation is a theme of Homestuck, especially A6A6, where Caliborn spills stardust all over the game cartridge, causing glitches to obscure certain events, both for the audience and the characters.

The question given here is "what happens to Gamzee Makara after the meteor trip", so I won't go into much detail about what he specifically does while on the meteor, or in the dream bubbles (though to simplify: he hides in vents for 3 years, plots with Kurloz to help Lord English, romances and abuses Terezi, and ignores Karkat; in the post-retcon timeline Vriska puts a stop to most of this).

However, story-wise, while this is going on, Gamzee appears a couple of times in Jane's session, providing her and her friends with guides (prototyping dead trolls) and taking part in trickster shenanigans. And, he's also seen in Caliborn's session, helping him! What's going on here!?

Let's start with the pre-retcon timeline, in Jane's session. When the meteor arrives, Grimdark Jade arrives and teleports all its passengers (except Gamzee) to LoMaX, where they encounter John.

Gamzee does several things in the Alpha session, which may be impossible to actually order correctly due to the time travel involved, so let's give them in the order they're shown.

Appearance One

First, we see Gamzee, a short while after Jane Crocker entered the Medium (when she returned back to her house at the end of Myststuck), with Aradia Megido's Time Travel Music Boxes (her version of Dave's Time Tables) which allow him to travel through time to any point in the session he's in. He likely retrieved them from somewhere in the meteor, or from a dream bubble. They may also be Damara Megido's, it's impossible to tell.

He's also wearing a fake God Tier outfit, which was made for him by Kurloz Makara in a dream bubble. Furthermore, he has a large variety of bottled potions, which are made from the blood of the seven trolls who died on the meteor (Vriska, Tavros, Equius, Nepeta, Feferi, Sollux, and Eridan); he tries to sell these potions to Jane.

He also has with him a fridge, which contains Vriska Serket and Tavros Nitram's bodies, including Tavros's non-robot legs, which he then prototypes into Jane's Kernelsprite to form Tavrisprite, who proptly spritesplodes, launching Gamzee away from Jane's house.

Appearances Two and Three

According to Roxy Lalonde, Gamzee similarly appeared to create Fefetasprite with her Kernelsprite and Feferi Peixes and Nepeta Leijon's bodies immediately after she arrived back at her house in the Medium post-entry, and can be surmised to have done the same for Jake English's Kernelsprite, making Erisolsprite with Eridan Ampora and Sollux Captor. (Jake also implies this.)

Not much else is known about these appearances.

Appearance Four

While Dirk Strider is having a rather dramatic conversation with Lil Hal about whether or not he's going to prototype him, Gamzee sneaks up behind him and prototypes Equius's body into the Kernelsprite, forming Equiusprite. Hal is then subsequently prototyped, forming ARquiusprite. Gamzee also does a silly honk dance while this is happening, followed by tearing up and prostrating himself before Dirk in reverence of ARquius's majesty.

Gamzee is also present when Dirk joins the Tricksters, the Fefetasplosion, and the Trickster Alchemy Montage. The less said about all that the better.

Appearance Five

At some unknown time, Gamzee was on Derse with the Courtyard Droll, and with him, placed Lil Cal (the green suit one, which Gamzee had in his possession since Murderstuck), as well as a large assortment of knives, a hacksaw, Crowbar's Crowbar (which he received from Kurloz) and a card saying "YOU'RE MOTHER FUCKIN WELCOME" with a picture of Gamzee's face on it, into a pumpkin marked with the words "LET'S PLAY A GAME", which they then transportalized into Jack Noir's Prospit cell. Jack then was cursed by Cal, and proceeded to become Lord Jack, who then destroyed Prospit's moon and a large amount if the main planet itself.

(Technically, Appearance Five is shown before the second half of Appearance Four, but since that takes place in the same location, I grouped it together.)

Appearance Six

Once Jade Harley and John Egbert's battleship arrives in the Alpha Session, Gamzee sneaks aboard the ship after Jade, John, and Davesprite have all left (John by retcon) and steals the Ring of Life John accidentally left on the couch he was sleeping on. He then hides in the fridge, and in his dreams, gives the ring to Aranea Serket, who is revealed to be currently (and possibly previously) manipulating his mind. Aranea uses the Ring to return to life, and appears in the Alpha Session.

It's implied within this section that Gamzee's silence during his actions in the previous parts of Act 6 was due to Aranea's control over him. However, this cannot be proven for sure, although I'll mention it again later.

Appearance Seven

During the chaos on the Land of Frost and Frogs, which would later become the event known as GAME OVER, Gamzee jumps from somewhere under Aranea's control in order to prevent Crocker-Tier Jane from using her Life powers to resurrect the recently killed Grimbark Jade. He grapples and gropes her, until Terezi Pyrope appears, kicking him off of her and engaging in combat with him. She stabs him multiple times, but due to Aranea's influence, he doesn't fight back, and he survives because of his clown immortality.

When Brain Ghost Dirk breaks Aranea's concentration fully (when she's flung back after his re-fakening), Gamzee snaps out of her control reverting to his original StOnEd QuIrK. He asks Terezi to stop, telling her she's hurting him, which causes her to drop her weapons in shock, but he then flies into a clown rage, beating her mercilessly, then hanging her over the lava. Rose attempts to intervene, but Gamzee dodges her spell, then taunts Karkat and Kanaya (who are at the edge of the lava lake) while putting Terezi in a headlock.

Appearance Eight: GAME OVER

Immediately following Appearance Seven, Gamzee is attacked by Karkat and Kanaya. Using Terezi's canesword, he stabs Karkat twice and throws him into the lava, before Kanaya cuts him in half lengthways with her chainsaw.

This is all of Gamzee's appearances in the Alpha Kids session pre-Retcon. While Hussie has said that Gamzee cannot be killed in any timelines he knows of, bisected Gamzee is very clearly out of the picture for other appearances.

Additional Notes

Because Gamzee had access to time-travel, it's near impossible to position these events in a particular order from his point of view, except that all of them must take place for him after arriving in the Alpha Kids session (otherwise Dave would have been able to similarly skip forward and enter the session without taking the 3 year trip), and appearances 7 and 8 must take place sequentially and last.

The ordering of the first 3 appearances is trivial, as it's likely he didn't time travel at all between 1 and 2-3, just went to the planets to do the prototyping when they appeared.

Aranea may also have been controlling Gamzee through all of his earlier appearances. There's evidence to suggest that she is the narrator for the segment where he tries to sell Jane potions, and that she engineered Tavris's creation in order to pacify Vriska with Tavros's traits, making her less likely to interrupt her plans and also to distract Meenah, but that's dipping into the lines of theory more than facts.

ARquius's creation, and sending Cal to Jack, are likely more motivated by aiding Lord English, whether Gamzee understands why he did them or not.

There'll be another post sometimes soon talking more about Gamzee's motivation, including what cause him to go crazy in Murderstuck, but that's all of this for now.

Post-Retcon

John's Retcon journey ensured that Terezi would not fall for Gamzee's Murderstuck tricks, and led to her capturing him in the basement shop area. John also prevented her from killing Vriska.

During the meteor trip, Vriska stops Gamzee from doing much of his mischief, preventing his and Terezi's relationship, stopping him from stealing all the bodies, which he complained to Kurloz about in the dream bubbles.

Vriska, using the Music Boxes, also did most of Gamzee's interventions in the Alpha Session, prototyping Jane's Kernelsprite with exclusively Tavros, and Dirk's with ARquius again, in order to help deal with God Cat and de-Crocker Tiering Jane respectively. She left Roxy and Jake's sprites open, which later became Jasprosesprite^2 and Davepetasprite^2, which was not her intention.

(There is a slight inconsistency here, as somebody has to have provided Jack Noir with Cal in order for him to become Lord Jack, and make Jane and Jake become God Tier. Nobody knows how this happens in the post-Retcon timeline, though Vriska creating overpowered Jacks in order to have them later be defeated is a recurring theme with her; all 3 Noirs that took part in [S] Collide have her to blame for their presence in one way or another, if she is the creator of Lord Jack. However, this is once again theory, not facts.)

Upon the arrival of the meteor crew in the session, or perhaps some time before or after, Gamzee was locked in Jane Crocker's fridge by Vriska.

In this fridge he remained for the rest of the comic. It was briefly transported to LoMaX by Jasprose to use as a table for her, Nepetasprite and Jake's tea party, and then once she joined Jane on LoCaH to aid with the coming battle, it was used by ARquius as a weapon against Cans, with Gamzee still inside. When Cans and ARquius began travelling between different moments and locations in the battle, the fridge went with them, eventually ending up on LoTaK, where Dave, Dirk, and Terezi were fighting Lord Jack and Spades Slick.

Gamzee was shown inside the fridge and one point, crying.

Most of LoTaK was subsequently destroyed by Lord Jack's head exploding into a black hole. Terezi, Dave, and Dirk all got clear of the blast via time travel, but Gamzee's fate was unknown.

However, this isn't the end of Gamzee's story after the Meteor.

Caliborn

A Gamzee, wearing a fake God Tier outfit, discovered Calliope and Caliborn's egg on Future Earth C, in Universe C (thousands of years after the events of the Homestuck Epilogues, with Earth's new sun expanded to a red giant reminiscent of Alternia's sun).

How this Gamzee got here is unknown. However, he raised the baby Cherubs the best he could, favouring Calliope to Caliborn (possibly because Caliborn bit him)

Gamzee set their room in the wreckage of the meteor up, providing them with meat, candy, special stardust, computers, their Jujus, the chessboard from the Cherubs famous game, and various other items. Where he got these is unknown, but one of them is Rose Lalonde's book that she and Kanaya Maryam wrote, on the workings of Sburb and the events of their sessions (with additional artwork by Dave Strider and Karkat Vantas). However, he edited it, mostly using Equius's blood, removing references to Lord English, Doc Scratch and himself. He also gave Calliope Karkat's ~ATH book (although neither the version from the Alpha Timeline, as that was destroyed in Karkat's computer explosion, nor the one from the timeline an Aradiabot brought the HoNkhOnK code back from, as that one was covered in blood, and also was already used by Doc Scratch, and once Andrew Hussie, as a scrapbook.)

He also set up Calliope and Caliborn's chains, and then left them alone until Caliborn entered the Medium, taking the Earth with him. At this point, Gamzee appeared to him again, offering to be his guide.

Caliborn shot him a bunch instead.

Gamzee followed him anyway, giving him the Crowbar and a set of keys. This may imply that this is the same Gamzee from [S] Collide, since the Crowbar was wielded by Lord Jack during the battle. The fact that Caliborn's Denizen was Yaldaboath, who was also Dirk's Denizen, and resided at the core of LoTaK, which was also consumed by the black hole, and that Caliborn *also* entered his Medium via a black hole, lend evidence to the theory that Lord Jack's head acted as a portal to Caliborn's session (which may also be an explanation for how ARquius arrived for Caliborn's Masterpiece, though it's one of many possibilities.)

Gamzee may also have got to Earth simply escaping the fridge after LoTaK's destruction, going through the Victory Door, and then waiting for thousands of years, as he might not age along with his clown immortality. He may also have entered the universe via the door at a later time, since there's nothing that confirms you must arrive at a specific time or place.

Hussie says:

I'm not even really sure how he got here, to be honest.  Maybe he stowed away in a shitty Liberty?  Or maybe he was just hiding in one of the ventshafts on your meteor when you entered? He had YEARS of practice to master that move, now that I think about it. 

Anyway, Gamzee then assisted Caliborn in his quest, where they also found Lil Seb and Lil Cal, and the 14 regular members of the Felt. Later, in Caliborn's Masterpiece, they encountered the 8 kids, and in the ensuing battle Gamzee was once again bisected lengthways (likely by Dirk), and half of his body was sucked into Lil Cal, then banished into the void to eventually become part of Lord English.

And that's everything that Gamzee did after the meteor.

I hope this confused you slightly less than the wiki! I'm going to be doing a follow-up explanation on Gamzee's motivation and the factors which changed him from silly clown boy into homicidal maniac cultist (and why that's not actually what happened), as requested by someone else, but that's not going to be the next post, so please, ask me more things! I've done two rather long explanations now, so a short one or two might be good, but feel free to ask anything!

(Oh, and I forwent the Epilogues here, because they're kind of a mess, but I can tell you with 99% certainty that the Gamzee that meets Caliborn is *not* the Gamzee from most of the Epilogues; Vriska kills that one.)

A "summary" of Homestuck Act 5: Act 2

by someone who is starting to miss when it was just about getting the SBURB beta from your dad

We can no longer start nice and simple. This is the beefiest act of Homestuck thus far, so it would practically be impossible to summarise it into a singular Tumblr post.

So here are a list of highlights/things that stuck out to me!

This act is mainly about the trolls and humans working together ('working' is a very loose term) in order to stop Jack Noir (who fused with Jade's dog Bec to become Bec Noir, a ultrapowered freak). Karkat has his first interaction with John from his perspective where he screeches insults at him, to which John responds "oh yoooo karkat! what's happenin dawg?"

Speaking of John, he (and I think Rose, not completely sure) manages to reach god tier, the highest tier in the game! Woo-hoo!

Dave isn't so lucky however, as his doomed self is killed by his Alpha Timeline self (do not question this. carry on)

Rose goes "grimdark" with some help from a certain Doc Scratch, who also tells her about summoning his master Lord English, and exactly what the Scratch is, which is a mechanism that can replace an unwinnable session with a new, winnable one.

Vriska kills Tavros (who then comes back, doesn't revive her and therefore making her ascend to godtier), Sollux and Eridan duel with a sick animation (where Sollux gets knocked out and lo2e2 hi2 annoyinng li22p), Gamzee goes haywire from an Insane Clown Posse video, and then Kanaya chainsaws Eridan. Truly the best of friends.

I cannot talk about Cascade because that is another can of worms that I wish not to get into. I think the Scratch happens.

Homestuck is a very unique piece of media. You can experience it fully, but it is impossible to talk about at length. That being said, I am very interested to see what happens in the next act. Hopefully something good.

In honor of homestuck day I'm coming out as someone who's currently reading homestuck for the first time

And here are my thoughts on this piece of media:

I understand why people can be annoying about homestuck because I'm enjoying it so much that I, too, want to be annoying about homestuck. It goes so many places and so bunch of random things in the world make me think "oh just like homestuck."

I'm a bit over halfway through (about page 4500).

Here's what I think about characters:

John - funny and sincere, love the guy

Rose - she's good there's a lot of good scenes with her, love her grimdark era

Dave - he has funny parts and I like when he gets into his time travel era

Jade - I love jade but it feels like she's barely in it sometimes, and she doesn't get a lot of chances to be a part of the core group? Kinda lame. She just turned into a human furry hybrid, which is fun.

Karkat- love this guy. He really sucks for a long time, it sucks reading his ALL CAPS RANTS until he starts to become more sincere and idk he's just a guy who wants to do the right thing.

Aradia - a jade type. I really like her but i feel like she doesn't get to be a character too often, just a plot device.

Sollux - who is this guy. He's like. Fine. I really didn't like him at first but he got a bit better recently, still... idk.

Equius- same as sollux except he never grew on me. I like it when he's not there.

Terezi- TEREZI I LOVE TEREZI SHES SO GOOD. I love her cool guy relationship with Dave and all her art rules.

Vriska - what can even be said? We love vriska. Loved her sad date with John. Hope to see her again soon.

Gamzee - I so far really like this guy even tho I didn't really want to. He was a scary clown for a second but now he is a chill clown. He's aight. Idk

Kanaya & Nepeta - these guys get the same slot cuz I feel the same about them. I like them both but I forget about them until they're on screen. Hopefully they get the chance to do some more.

Tavros - yeah I like him, I feel bad for this shy ass guy with these intense ass friends. But he also is like barely there.

Eridan - annoying guy! I also like him better when he's not there.

Feferi - look there are so many characters that I know they can't ALL be important but she's another one where like. She seems great but she needs more to do!

I think that's all the trolls... vriska come back.

I just got started with the post scratch characters so I'm still developing opinions about them. So far I like dirk the most. roxy has some funny moments but it is weird that she's a perpetually drunk teen. Jane and Jake havent done too much so they're just ok atm.

Anyway I'm not finished and I have no idea what compelled me to write this, I never talk about Fandom stuff. My opinions are subject to change between now and when I finish, and even after I finish my opinion will continue to change.

heres how i think i would write an eridan redemption

1: feferi goes grimshark after eridan knocks out sollux and she attacks him, he tries to fire a shot, but she ensnares him with the darkness making him drop the wand which discharges straight into kanaya, while the matriorb shrivels up and dies from the grimdark. then feferi tears him in half along the waistline but uses her latent life power to keep him alive for his repentance before throwing his top half into a vent

2: he crawls his way into equius and nepeta's chamber in need of legs and despite his disdain towards seadwellers equius agrees on the condition eridan explains what happened to the 2 of them and after explaining the situation he bursts into laughter at the fact that the empire is dead and with it the caste system effectively rendering their blood colors completely trivial and immediately thanks equius for not only the legs but also for listening to his epiphany

3: on his way to confront feferi he runs into a sober gamzee who is rearing up to kill him but knowing his ancestor's story he immediately books it right after gamzee throws ahab's crosshairs at his feet as if he were challenging him, he takes it but runs anyway and after running into a pit he immediately blast jumps away from the murderclown with the gun

this is as far as i could get tbh

This is interesting. I am always a sucker for Feferi attuning more to the horrorterrors. And I do like Eridan being self aware enough to stay away from the clown.

Let’s talk about Ascending / Descending.

The idea of Ascend / Descend is not new to Homestuck. Prior to the Scratch, there are many characters who Ascend and Descend at various points, be it a descent from the sky, or an ascent to power.

Ascending and Descending can be metaphorical, literal, or both.

What does this mean in comparison to the Aspects themselves?

It is the relation of those aspects who across the Space-Time Line, as seen here.

The very basic idea of Ascension is becoming more Divine, Heavenly you could say. 

While the idea of Descension could be a falling from grace... or it could simply be, Falling to Earth. Hell is still a divine place, no matter it demons, so to fall from divinity is to fall to morality, to Fall to the Earth Below.

As seen above, the ULTIMATE DESCENDING ASPECT is the Blood Aspect, and the ULTIMATE ASCENDING ASPECT is the Breath Aspect. They are CARDINAL ASPECTS, thus are both reflections and opposites.

Breath is the Heavens, and Blood is the Earth, and those aspects associated are henceforth the Heavenly Aspects and the Earthly Aspects.

(I swear, there’s anime about something like that somewhere)

... So what does this mean exactly?

There is enough similarity between Ascending-Descending aspects, that if we take certain conditions away--they would be indistinguishable from one another.

Heaven is a seat of Divinity from the perspective of Earth, but Earth is a Divine creation from the perspective of Heaven; both are holy for they are all made by their gods, not by their declaration.

Just as the idea of Earth being a place of suffering, so is the divine realm of Hell, an after place made of suffering.

Thus Earth will always be the basis of which we judge Ideality.

As is above, so is below.

Breath to Ideality, the Heavenly Aspect, vs Blood to Reality, the Earthly Aspect

Hope to Ultimate Ideality (Imagination / Divinity) vs Doom to Ultimate Reality (Death)

Mind to Mental Ideality (Mentality) vs Void to Physical Reality

Life to Ideal Experience vs Rage to Real Experience

Light to Ideal Self (That which we see of ourselves; Consciousness) vs Heart to Real Self (That which we present; The Unconsciousness)

I can note this from the Zodiac Aspect all I want, but it would mean nothing if I can’t apply it to Homestuck, now would it?

So let’s see how Descending / Ascending Aspects handle in Homestuck proper.

Terezi Pyrope is a Seer of Mind, but as seen in this picture, she’s blind folded herself (obscured vision), passed out on the ground (Blacked out), and looks generally like someone you want to Avoid.

Mind’s descending aspect is Void. Mind has been Grounded here.

I don’t have to describe this one, the video is literally “Seer: Descend”.

Rose has gone Grimdark (Darkness), from seeking INTIMATE knowledge regarding the CORE of unknown entities. This not long after learning her mother was murdered, and thus is on a revenge quest for the RELATIONSHIP. While she did BLACKOUT as Void tends to do, her darkness isn’t obscurity, but a shift of AESTHETICS.

She has not changed in PERSONA, we are merely seeing another FACET to her, though its been clearly and magically decorated to fit her mood.

Her aspect is Light, and it has Descended to the Heart Aspect; which is the Void’s Reflection Aspect.

Light has been Grounded here.

But surely its not just seeing Ideal Aspect Descend, what about some Ascending Aspects?

Well, Doom’s Ascending Aspect is Hope, and everything by this point was Sollux’s Hoping to either save the Troll Race (Which didn’t happen), or getting into the game before the VAST GLUB (which also didn’t happen), and hoping to rely on his friends... which got him killed.

And its... its Doom. You’re only gonna get so much with Doom.

Doom has been Raised / Razed here.

Gamzee is at his least violent in his first introductions, his most ideal as many could say. He’s relatively WELL-OFF, he’s seemingly has GOOD EXPERIENCES with everybody, he’s here for a GOOD TIME. He tends to eat Sopor PIES (Mind that every Life Player is associated with Baking). He’s also nigh UNKILLABLE, the stupid fucking bastard man.

He is a Bard of Rage, and Rage’s ascending Aspect is Life. Rage has been Raised / Razed here.

- The fact that Gamzee is on here gives a certain rule to Ascension / Descension in Aspects.

That the Ascending / Descending is often devastating to the Character themselves, as it means that they’re under a kind of duress. The conditions that separate an ascending / descending aspect from the other have been removed, and now the scale is going wild.

That isn’t to say that acting as the other aspect is bad. No Aspect is inherently bad, its only when you try to act as something without understanding yourself, that it becomes a horrible thing. Moderation or Balance, you could say.

There is no Balance when Ascension / Descension occurs.

- This does appear similar to the Inverse Theory. However, I don’t believe in switch classpects to their opposites when under duress.

To clarify, Ascending / Descending is the removal of Conditions of Balance. You are still your Classpect, but its either been “Grounded” (In the case of the Ideal Aspects) or its been “Raised / Razed” (In the case of the Reality Aspects); the line has blurred between the Descending Aspect and the Ascending Aspect--that is what is causing the problem.

 - It should also be noted that Time and Space players do run into Ascending / Descending Events, but its less an aspect grounding or an aspect rising, than it is a shift of circumstances.
