McCarthy Impressed With Sadlier And Connolly Ahead Of Euro Qualifiers
Ireland manager Mick McCarthy was impressed with what he saw in person from former Cork City man Kieran Sadlier over the weekend.
McCarthy was present as Sadlier scored one and set up another in Doncaster’s 2-0 win against Peterborough on Saturday.
“I’ll name the squad for Georgia and Switzerland on Tuesday week and I wanted to have a look at Kieran for myself,” McCarthy told the FAI website.
“Terry Connor had heard good things about him from the Doncaster coaching staff and our scouts had seen him but I wanted to have a look at him with my own two eyes. I know all about the other options available to us so this trip to Doncaster made sense.
“Kieran played well. He’s been operating on the right side of late having started the season as a centre-forward and he took his goal well.”

McCarthy was also glad to see Sean Maguire back among the goals over the weekend. The 25-year-old grabbed the winner, his third goal of the season, as Preston beat Birmingham 1-0.
With Enda Stevens suspended for the Euro 2020 qualifier away to Georgia next month, McCarthy and assistant Terry Connor are assessing their left-back options. Connor watched Greg Cunningham as his Blackburn side beat Reading 2-1 and McCarthy has seen Ryan Manning play there for QPR. They have also had a scout watch James McClean play at left-back for Stoke.
The Ireland management team are also keeping tabs on young players Aaron Connolly and Troy Parrott.
“Aaron was the one who really caught the eye with the 21s against Armenia,” said McCarthy.
“He is getting game time in the Premier League now with Brighton which will really benefit him and us and he was unlucky not to score at Newcastle.
“We are talking to Spurs and Terry will watch Troy this week in the Under 23 game at Blackburn on Monday or the Football League Cup match against Colchester on Tuesday night if he is involved in that one.”

Mick McCarthy sees Kieran Sadlier score points as he restricts his squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers
Mick McCarthy watched Kieran Sadlier's goal in Doncaster Rovers' 2-0 win over Peterborough United, as he restricted his squad for the Euro World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Switzerland next month.
Former playmaker Cork City and Sligo Rovers were named to the enlarged squad in last month's games against Switzerland and Bulgaria but did not make the final 23-man squad. Sports enthusiasts from around the world can purchase the Republic Of Ireland Euro Cup Tickets online to enjoy its stunning performances.
Tumblr media
Sadlier, 25, has been in a sparkling form for Donnie this season, with three goals in eight league games so far. The third of them came on his last outing on the wing as he came back to haunt another of his former clubs by adding to James Coppinger's opener in the first period.
"I will name the band for Georgia and Switzerland on Tuesday and I wanted to take a look at Kieran for myself," McCarthy.
Terry Connor had heard good things about him from the Doncaster coaches and our scouts had seen it, but I wanted to see it for myself. I know everything about the other options available to us, so this trip to Doncaster was logical.
Kieran played well. He started the season as a center forward and he took his goal well. McCarthy's scouts also watched another Cork City alumni, Sean Maguire, score the only goal of Preston North End's win in Birmingham, his third of the season.
Tumblr media
Maguire was forced to retire from the last team after suffering an eye injury but has returned to form since returning to Preston last week. Sean also scored again, which is good news. He was very unlucky with the injury that prevented him from playing in the Swiss and Bulgarian games.
"It's a pleasure to see him back in goal as Callum Robinson is also fit and back on the Sheffield United team."
The Irish coach also keeps an eye on his other outstanding options while the Irish cap under 21, Aaron Connolly, makes his second appearance for Brighton & Hove Albion against Newcastle.
"It was Aaron who really caught the eye with the 21 against Armenia," McCarthy said.
Tumblr media
He is starting to have some Premier League time with Brighton, which will be very beneficial for us and he was unlucky not to score in Newcastle.
"We are talking to Spurs and Terry will be watching Troy [Parrott] this week in the Under-23 game at Blackburn on Monday or in the Football League Cup match against Colchester on Tuesday night if he's involved in that one. "
Head Coach Terry Connor was in Blackburn Rovers' 3-1 win over Reading as Greg Cunningham, Derrick Williams and Darragh Lenihan were all presents.
"With Enda Stevens suspended for the match against Georgia, we are looking at options for the left-back," he added. "Terry saw Greg play for Blackburn, James and Stoke and Ryan Manning for QPR against Luton last week."

Listen this is what absolutely cracks me up about her unfollowing Niall again tho, is that ok it's 1 thing that she still follows all other 4 members of the band (past & present lol) bc we know she was a fan. So that's one thing, BUT she still follows Lou, Lottie, Mark Jarv, all of which she presumably met while visiting niall on tour. But then ALSO Deo, Martin, Niall Hardi, Adam, Kim, Greg Sadlier, and I'm sure more! Like she follows ppl he works w/ as far up as management to all his besties...
its just so......i dont even have words for it anymore.

Ireland squad named for the Euro 2020 qualifier against Switzerland
Ireland squad for Switzerland: Brady out but Byrne keeps place
Robbie Brady is out of Ireland’s Euro 2020 clash with Switzerland next week but Shamrock Rovers ace Jack Byrne keeps his place in the squad.
And Ireland boss Mick McCarthy will be at Tallaght Stadium tomorrow night to run the rule over the Hoops star in the Dublin derby clash with Bohemians.
“He got two great goals in Waterford last week and is the form player for Stephen Bradley right now,” said McCarthy.

But Shane Long’s lack of games at Southampton this season has cost him his place in a final 25-man squad that sees fit-again James McCarthy return after a near three-year absence.
Burnley winger Brady has been sidelined with a rib injury and was in a race against time over the last three weeks.
“Robbie has been close to a comeback with Burnley in the past few days but these games have just come too soon for him,” said McCarthy today.
“We want him back for the games away to Georgia and Switzerland in October.”
Harry Arter is also ruled out as he requires a procedure on an ankle injury.
McCarthy said: “The big thing in picking this squad has been game-time for the players.
“I named a 40-man provisional squad a fortnight ago because so many of the players had yet to play for their clubs but thankfully that situation has improved dramatically.
“I watched James McCarthy play the full 90 minutes for Palace in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.
“Alan Kelly was at Burnley on Wednesday night to see Jeff Hendrick and Kevin Long start against Sunderland.
“Alan Browne is back in the team at Preston and Mark Travers started for Bournemouth on Wednesday and saved three penalties.
“Conor Hourihane scored two goals for Aston Villa at Crewe on Tuesday and Glenn Whelan is playing again now that he has signed for Hearts.
“It’s great to have them back on the pitch ahead of such a big game against the Swiss and then for the friendly against Bulgaria.”

As confirmed by Stephen Kenny yesterday, Troy Parrott, Michael Obafemi and Nathan Collins drop into the Under-21 squad but are on standby for the seniors.
“I’ve spoken to Stephen and it’s best for the players and our hopes of Under-21 qualification for them to be involved for the Armenia and Swedish games,” added McCarthy.
The other players cut from the initial 40-man provisional squad are Kieran O’Hara, Greg Cunningham, Cyrus Christie, Darragh Lenihan, Derrick Williams, Ciaran Clark, Kieran Sadlier, James Collins and Aiden O’Brien.
Republic of Ireland Squad
Goalkeepers: Darren Randolph (Middlesbrough), Keiren Westwood (Sheffield Wednesday), Mark Travers (Bournemouth)
Defenders: Seamus Coleman (Everton), Matt Doherty (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Shane Duffy (Brighton & Hove Albion), Richard Keogh (Derby County), John Egan (Sheffield United), Kevin Long (Burnley), Enda Stevens (Sheffield United)
Midfielders: Alan Judge (Ipswich Town), Callum O’Dowda (Bristol City), Alan Browne (Preston North End), Jack Byrne (Shamrock Rovers), Jeff Hendrick (Burnley), Conor Hourihane (Aston Villa), James McCarthy (Crystal Palace), Glenn Whelan (Hearts), Josh Cullen (Charlton Athletic), James McClean (Stoke City), Ronan Curtis (Portsmouth)

Mick McCarthy sees Kieran Sadlier score as he narrows down squad for crunch Euro 2020 qualifiers

Mick McCarthy watched Kieran Sadlier score in Doncaster Rovers’ 2-0 win over Peterborough United as he narrows down his squad for next month’s Euro qualifiers against Georgia and Switzerland.
The former Cork City and Sligo Rovers playmaker was named in the extended squad for last month’s games with the Swiss and Bulgaria but didn’t make the final 23-man squad.
25-year-old Sadlier has been in sparkling form for Donnie this season, with three goals in his eight league appearances to date.
The third of those came in his most recent outing, on the wing, as he returned to haunt another of his former clubs by adding to James Coppinger’s first-half opener.
“I’ll name the squad for Georgia and Switzerland on Tuesday week and I wanted to have a look at Kieran for myself,” McCarthy told the FAI’s website.
“Terry Connor had heard good things about him from the Doncaster coaching staff and our scouts had seen him but I wanted to have a look at him with my own two eyes.
“I know all about the other options available to us so this trip to Doncaster made sense.
“Kieran played well. He’s been operating on the right side of late having started the season as a centre-forward and he took his goal well.”
McCarthy’s scouts also watched another Cork City alumnus, Sean Maguire, as he scored the only goal in Preston North End’s win at Birmingham, his third of the season.
Maguire was forced to withdraw from the last squad after picking up a freak eye injury in training but has found form since returning to the Preston side last week.
“Sean scored again as well which is great news. He was very unlucky with the injury that kept him out of the Swiss and Bulgaria games.
“It’s good to see him back and in the goals again while Callum Robinson is also fit and back in the Sheffield United team.”
The Ireland manager is also keeping an eye on his other striking options as Ireland under-21 cap Aaron Connolly made his second appearance for Brighton & Hove Albion against Newcastle.
“Aaron was the one who really caught the eye with the 21s against Armenia,” McCarthy said.
“He is getting game time in the Premier League now with Brighton which will really benefit him and us and he was unlucky not to score at Newcastle.
“We are talking to Spurs and Terry will watch Troy [Parrott] this week in the Under 23 game at Blackburn on Monday or the Football League Cup match against Colchester on Tuesday night if he is involved in that one.”
Assistant manager Terry Connor was at Blackburn Rovers’ 3-1 win over Reading as Greg Cunningham, Derrick Williams and Darragh Lenihan all featured.
“With Enda Stevens suspended for the Georgia game, we are looking at left-back options,” he added.
“Terry saw Greg play there for Blackburn, we had James watched for Stoke and I saw Ryan Manning play for QPR against Luton last week.”
