Latest and hopefully final update to the adventures in me texting my ex. Tumblr is being weird, so it's a separate post now. If you want the backstory, stalk my #regicide originals tag. Posting as plaintext instead of a screenshot this time.
Here's the thing, London. I'm also autistic. I, too, need to be blatantly told how people feel about me. But, at least for me, things like "I really feel a spark" are blatant enough to indicate that a person, y'know, really feels a spark—that they have a genuine romantic interest in me. You signaled to me that you wanted the relationship to be serious, and I repeated those same signals back to you. I thought you were being blatant about how you felt about me, and I was exactly the same level of blatant about how I felt about you.
Back in September, you blamed yourself for not initiating a conversation about what exactly our relationship was, and then Monday you shifted that blame onto me, but, from what I remember, we kinda did have a conversation of that sort, just… organically, rather than all at once. It was maybe a bit ambiguous at first, but as those signals got sent back and forth, it became clearer and clearer to me, and I thought it was clear to both of us.
When we went to Greenwood Park Mall together, you described it as a "mall date" and talked about potential future dates, and I said something along the lines of, "I guess last night plus today has been one long first date, hasn't it?" — and at that point, I thought we were in agreement that what we were doing was dating.
When you said, "You're the prettiest girl in the world. How did I get so lucky?", down by the canal when we were eating noodles, I never once imagined you meant it as, "How did I get so lucky to have you as a totally platonic, quasi-familial fucktoy?", nor did I ever think you'd assume I'd interpret it that way.
I'm almost certain I remember us referring to each other as girlfriends/partners.
If there had been any asymmetry with how either of us felt about the other and the signals we gave each other about the status of our relationship, I would have expressed discomfort. Had I not felt the same way about you as what you were signaling to me about how you felt about me, I would have told you outright that I didn't feel the same way, rather than affirming and reciprocating those signals.
So here I am, left wondering how this happened.
One option is that you understood the signals you were giving me as well as the ones I was giving you in return, and you just didn't care. You understood what I thought the relationship was, and you played with my heartstrings. You cheated on me with someone who wanted to be exclusive, knowing full fucking well that it's impossible to do that while dating someone else (especially someone who's polyamorous). Then you broke up with me over text (four days before my birthday lol), with a fucking punch-to-the-gut intro of "I almost forgot to tell you…", and when I pointed out that you'd just done the same thing your shitty ex did to you, you feigned ignorance to save face, saying you didn't think of it as a breakup because you didn't think we were actually that serious.
I don't like that option. It assigns a lot of malice to you, and as I've said, I'd like to think better of you than that.
Another option is that you didn't actually understand the signals you were giving me, nor the ones I was giving you. When you said, "I really feel a spark", it actually meant nothing to you; when I said, "Me too", you didn't grasp that it meant I felt something. The thought never occurred to you that we had or ever could potentially have something serious.
A third option is that you understood the signals you were giving me, but you didn't understand those same signals when I gave them to you. You valued my expressions of love for you to a lesser degree than your own for me. This appears to be the one you're claiming is correct.
Either of those latter two options could only be possible if you simply weren't emotionally mature enough for it to have been right for us to even date in the first place. If that's the case, I take full responsibility; there were alarm bells in the back of my mind that I ignored and which I really, really shouldn't have. I should have been more careful, and I shouldn't have dismissed the warning signs. That's on me, and I sincerely apologize. We both lucked out that you were the one who broke my heart, and not the other way around.

It is uncommon for mass shootings to be stopped by a good guy with a gun.
From 2000 to 2021, fewer than 3% of 433 active attacks in the U.S. ended with a civilian firing back, according to the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center at Texas State University. The researchers define the attacks as one or more people targeting multiple people.
It was far more common for police or unarmed bystanders to subdue the attacker or for police to kill the person, according to the center’s national data, which were recently cited by The New York Times.
In a quarter of the shootings, the attacker stopped by leaving the area, similar to what happened during the July 4 parade in Highland Park, Illinois, where seven people were killed.
“There’s been this statement: ‘The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.’ That’s factually inaccurate because of the word ‘only,’” said Adam Lankford, a criminal justice expert at the University of Alabama who has written books and research papers about mass shootings.
Nonetheless, gun-rights advocates, including the National Rifle Association, used that phrase on social media to draw attention to what happened in Indiana.
Since July 1, Indiana has allowed anyone 18 or older to carry a handgun in public, though private property owners can prohibit firearms. The Greenwood mall has a ban on weapons, according to its conduct code. Gun Owners of America hopes the mall reconsiders, saying gun-free zones create a false sense of security.
The Greenwood Park Mall, which is owned by Simon Property Group, didn’t reply to a request for comment but released a statement commending first responders and the “heroic actions of the good Samaritan who stopped the suspect.”
Lankford believes it would be a mistake to think armed civilians can be relied upon to regularly stop mass shootings.
“While it’s certainly a good thing in this mall shooting that someone was able to stop it before it went any further, let’s not think we can substitute that outcome in all past and future incidents,” Lankford said. “If everyone’s carrying a firearm, the risk that something bad happens just gets much larger.”

Also??????? lol. I know this mall. I've gone to this mall. Like. Semi-regularly before I moved for school. I went to this mall when I came home this Christmas, TWICE. "Low income area" MY ASS. That is PARK FUCKING MEADOWS, which is right inside the capstone of the the most prevailingly NIMBY white-middle-class homogenized region in the entire goddamn metro area. [Greenwood Village, Cherry Hills, Englewood, and Lone Tree... I'm not counting Castle Rock rn, but the metro sprawl is astounding.] In fact, a bunch of old fuckers in Englewood are MAD about low-income housing that the city wants to put in, because most of the people hate the unhoused for being usually-not-white being poor lowering their property values.
And sure, you can technically get more expensive individual neighborhoods up a bit further north—like tens of millions of dollar-mcmansion scrapes, but they're usually combo areas where just across the road it's lower income [looking at u, Glendale]. Not Englewood/Cherry Hills/Greenwood Village, tho. That shit is petite gentry, through and through—and basically everbody in Denver knows it.
If you want actual gentrification and low income area destruction, check out the I-70 Viaduct Project when we displaced like 400 people and demolished a little Polish church to make a park for the young white gentry in north denver, and to make the shitty traffic on I-70, still fucking shitty because traffic lanes never fix traffic and we barely invest in our public transit infrastructure [i wrote a paper about this like 8 years ago].
