My translation:

11 Until the current hour we hunger and we thirst and we are unclothed and we are struck with the fist and we are not standing still 12 and we labor, working with our own hands; reviled we speak well of, pursued we endure, 13 defamed we exhort; we became as off-scourings of the world, the off-wiping of all things until now.

Notes:

4:11

ἄχρι (“until”) functions as a preposition, taking the object τῆς ... ὥρας. The adverb ἄρτι (“now”) here functions adjectivally with τῆς ... ὥρας; NET: “To the present hour”.

The καὶ ... καὶ construction is, “both ... and”. However, the English “both” is limited to instances of two items in the list, whereas Greek can have indefinite items. NASB, NET still use “both” by setting the first two verbs apart from the rest.

διψάω (16x) is, “I thirst” (cf. τὸ δίψος, 1x, “thirst”).

The hapax legomenon γυμνιτεύω is, “I am poorly clothed” (BDAG, most translations), from γυμνός (15x) “naked, uncovered, inadequately clothed”. NIV: “we are in rags”.

κολαφίζω (5x) is, “strike with the fist”, from κολάζω (2x) “I punish” (cf. ἡ κόλασις, 2x, “punishment”); here, probably referring generically to being ‘roughly treated’ (BDAG, NASB, HCSB; NIV, NET: “brutally treated”); NRSV is more literal with, “beaten”. ICC suggests this verb connotes the treatment of a slave. NIGTC says Paul may be using the term figuratively to refer to ‘bouts of severe ill health (surely for some at Corinth a sign of not being fully “spiritual”!)’.

The hapax legomenon ἀστατέω, from α negation + ἵστημι, means, ‘I am without a permanent residence’, i.e., “unsettled, homeless” (BDAG). ZG: “not standing still, always on the move”; NET: “without a roof over our heads.”

The five present-tense verbs πεινῶμεν (from πεινάω “I hunger”), διψῶμεν, γυμνιτεύομεν, κολαφιζόμεθα (passive-voice) and ἀστατοῦμεν, united by καὶ, creates a stark rhetorical effect. If the Corinthians are fat, happy and ruling like kings, Paul and the other apostles are in the exact opposite situation.

4:12

The present κοπιῶμεν (from κοπιάω “I toil, labor wearily”) is modified by the adverbial present participle ἐργαζόμενοι (from ἐργάζομαι “I work”) which denotes means or circumstance. The dative ταῖς ... χερσίν is instrumental. ἰδίαις is attributive.

λοιδορέω (4x) is, “I revile, abuse” (BDAG), from ἡ λοιδορία (3x) “abuse, reproach, reviling” (cf. ὁ λοίδορος, 2x, “reviler, abusive person”); NIV: “cursed”; NET: “verbally abused”. The present passive participle λοιδορούμενοι modifying the present εὐλογοῦμεν (from εὐλογέω “I speak well of, praise, bless”) could be temporal (so NASB: “when we are reviled, we bless”; sim. most translations) or concessive (“although we are reviled,...”).

ἀνέχω (15x), from ἀνά + ἔχω, is “I put up with, endure”; only in the middle-voice in the NT (ἀνέχομαι). The present passive participle διωκόμενοι (from διώκω “I pursue, persecute”) is temporal or concessive with the present middle ἀνεχόμεθα.

4:13

The hapax legomenon δυσφημέω is, “I slander, defame”, from prefix δυσ- “bad” + ἡ φήμη “fame” (similar to βλασφημέω which has a common root; indeed some scribes changed the reading to the more familiar term βλασφημούμενοι). The present passive participle δυσφημούμενοι is temporal or concessive with the present παρακαλοῦμεν (from παρακαλέω). παρακαλέω (lit. “I call alongside”) here refers to conciliatory speech, “I appeal to, urge, exhort, encourage” (BDAG); “exhort” hardly seems to be the meaning here (‘yet Origen and Basil seem to take it so’, ICC). Most translations read something like NIV’s “we answer kindly” or HCSB’s “we respond graciously”, although this is not a common sense for the term. NIGTC suggests that Paul’s meaning here is, “We respond face-to-face with moral courage and sensitive listening.”

The hapax legomenon τό περικάθαρμα is, “dirt, refuse” (BDAG), from περί + καθαρίζω, “I clean all around”. The term literally refers to “off-scouring”, that is, the dirt collected when something is cleaned or swept. The particle ὡς with plural περικαθάρματα after ἐγενήθημεν (from γίνομαι) denotes Paul’s perception of how he was regarded (“we became as scum ...”), without claiming fact. The genitive τοῦ κόσμου is partitive. ZG notes the term was sometimes used figuratively in the sense of, “scapegoat, expiatory sacrifice”, which is possible here; NIGTC traces the semantic journey: ‘(1) that which is removed by cleansing, (2) that which is cast away to make something else clean, and hence (3) an expiation’. ICC: ‘It is not quite certain which of the two meanings is right here; nor does the coupling with περίψημα [below] settle the matter, for that word also is used in two similar senses.’ Most translations take the term in the everyday sense; NRSV: “the rubbish of the world”; HCSB: “the world’s garbage”; NIV: “the scum of the earth” (sim. NASB).

The hapax legomenon τό περίψημα is a near-synonym of τό περικάθαρμα above, also meaning, “dirt, off-scouring”, this time from root ψάω (not in NT) “I wipe, rub”. The singular περίψημα is appositional to περικαθάρματα above. The genitive πάντων is partitive, referring to the dirt collected extracted from either “all people” (if it is taken as masculine) or “all things” (if neuter) in the world; NASB, NRSV: “the dregs of all things”; NIV: “the garbage of the world”; NIGTC captures Paul’s vivid word picture with, “the scrapings from everyone’s shoes” (sim. HCSB). NET combines the genitives with, “We are the world’s dirt and scum”. The temporal conjunction ἕως with temporal adverb ἄρτι (“until now”) forms an inclusio around the passage with ἄχρι τῆς ἄρτι ὥρας at the beginning of verse 11.

West African Clothing, Shoes, and Accs I Would Like Made into Sims 4 CC

More clothing that I will add to the Medieval Around the World theme for Sims 4 CC: Ashanti and Ewe Kente cloth.

The traditional style to wear the cloth for men is similar (not the same) as how ancient Greek men wore their himation.

Evergreen Campus Shops - 3x3 - Clothing and Electronics Shops

Hello everyone,

This is the last build for my University so far. I have plans for building some houses for rent, another but more modern looking dorm, possible greek houses with modern architecture, as I’m not a fan of eclectic buildings, and a little corner grocer in the residential area.

I will share the map and the ‘hood view when I find the time to show you all, how I planned for these 4 lots to appear. I’m open to ideas about what else I can build for the university hood.
