Book Review

So I went to a Barnes and Nobles in Sacramento the other day and they were celebrating pride with their own book picks and this little number just happened to catch my eye.

I don't read romance usually. If I do I stick to the classics like Jane Eyre. I'm pure thriller, fantasy, science fiction type of girl.

However, I picked up this book and the summary was enough to get me to buy it and it was WORTH IT.

It's about two guys in their 20s and their funny, romantic relationship. Alex is the son of the first female president of the United States and the other, Henry is the second to the throne prince of England. It gets serious sometimes with issues that people today are going through but it's mostly comedic.

I really liked this book because each character has his flaws but are still loveable. It's comedic timing is perfect and it's one of the few YA novels with 20 year olds that I have read.

Great LGBTQ representation not just with the main characters. It also touches on race issues since Alex is Biracial and what he has to go through. It envisions also a world where the Trump Administration never happened which is also good...always a plus.

I constantly kept going back to pages, squishing the hell out of my pillow with glee and emotion!

It's not too corny or cringy like most YA romance novels and it's a lot more mature....TRUST

Like def has some steamy scenes in there with decorative detail

I fell in love with their relationship faster than they did and I read the book in one day.

Here's an excerpt (Henry is showing Alex around a British Museum after hours at night)

-"When I was younger," Henry says, "I had this very elaborate idea of taking somebody I loved here and standing inside the chapel, that he'd love it as much as I did, and we'd slow dance right in front of the Blessed Mother. Just a...daft pubescent fantasy."

Henry hesitates, before finally sliding his phone out of his pocket. He presses a few buttons and extends a hand to Alex, and, quietly, "Your Song" starts to play from the tiny speaker.

Alex exhales a laugh. "Aren't you gonna ask if I know how to waltz?" "No waltzing," Henry says. "Never cared for it."

Alex takes his hand, and Henry turns to face the chapel like a nervous postulant, his cheeks hollowed out in the low light, before pulling Alex into it.

When the kiss, Alex can hear a half-remembered old proverb from catechism, mixed up between translations of the book: "Come, hijo mio, de la miel, porque es buena, and the honeycomb, sweet to thy taste." He wonders what Santa Chilara would think of them, a lost David and Jonathan, turning slowly on the spot. -

10/10 would recommend
