Re: the computer audio: As it's probably some disconnect between the OS (fedora) and the motherboard chips (MSI B650M Mortar Wifi) If this isn't your area I'll badger people with more domain knowledge first - but unfortunately I do see other people with similar issues with motherboards from the same brand, and the manufacturer doesn't seem to offer any non-windows drivers on their site. (I already updated the BIOS, and my laptop - with the same OS and same headset - doesn't have this issue.) In short, the actual effect is that the microphone is BARELY audible to everyone else (big problem), and playback is possibly also quieter than I think it should be (no problem, probably related).
What is your audio setup like? What exact headset microphone are you using? Where are its cables going? What are you using for playback? is this all going through your PC’s inbuild audio jacks?
The input is quiet, but is it noiseless when you boost the volume? Record yourself speaking into a freeware recording software like Audacity (there’s a fork for linux here) and apply some gain to your recording . Is the volume of the floor noise egregious or does it sound fuzzy or distorted? If so, you might have a hardware problem. Its probably not a broken mic or busted cable as you mentioned the headset works fine elsewhere, but it could be a busted jack or fucked up sound card. Does it sound fair for the physical quality of your microphone? it may really be an OS or software issue . Try sending me a recording?
i’m unfortunately very unfamiliar with linux, so i’ll assume your seniority here and guess you’ve already tried OS fixes through whatever sound settings Fedora offers. Have you tried virtual audio cable programs like pulsemeeter? You could possibly use something like this to get some digital gain … I’m throwing shit at the wall here to account for how little i know about linux, but maybe it’ll help some.
as more information comes up i’ll do my best but in a pinch i can almost guarantee my fairly sized and mostly transgender following includes some linux nerds. Someone will probably know what’s going on...
