Slavic Mythological Creatures:
[this is a very narrow and broad post. pls do further research!]
Alkonost:
The name of the Alkonost came from a Greek demigoddess whose name was Alcyone. In Greek mythology, Alcyone was transformed by the gods into a kingfisher (Halcyon). The Alkonost is often referred to as the bird of paradise, which is very fitting because they typically have bright feathers. In fact, the older an alkonost is, the brighter her plumage will be. Pagans believed she was a wind spirit capable of bringing on storms. Christians believed she was God’s personal messenger.
Her voice is supposed to be so beautiful that she can make you forget anything that hurts you. She is said to sing about the beauties of paradise for the saints so that they don’t give in to despair and temptation. Other stories claim that wars have actually ended due to her voice.
Mare:
a malicious entity in Germanic and Slavic folklore that walks on people's chests while they sleep, bringing on nightmares
Sirin:
While the Alkonost is known for her ability to bring joy with her voice, the Sirin’s voice has the opposite effect. When she sings, evildoers experience pain and sorrow. She is a harbinger of death. Hearing her song often means that someone has died or that you are approaching your own end.
Birds with black feathers are often attributed as being conduits between this world and the other side, bringing messages from the dead. It is no surprise then that the Sirin has dark plumage like a raven or a crow. Given that she is just the Alkonist’s alter ego, it could be argued that it is her divine duty to punish the wicked and usher the dead to their afterlife. She is, after all, still a guardian of good fortune.
Babay:
Babay is rarely described, so that children can imagine him in the form most terrible for them. According to beliefs, he abducts children who do not sleep at night or behave badly
Raróg:
a fire demon, often depicted as a fiery falcon. According to Czech folklore, a raroh can hatch from an egg that was incubated on a stove for nine days and nights, and can appear either as a fiery falcon or a dragon. In Polish folklore, the rarog is a tiny bird that can be held in a pocket, and can bring people happiness.
Bauk:
An animal like creature in Surbian Mythos, the bauk is described as hiding in dark places, holes, or abandoned houses, waiting to grab, carry away, and devour its victim; but it can be scared away by light and noise.
Polevik:
field spirits that appear as a deformed creatures with different coloured eyes and grass instead of hair. They appear either at noon or sunset and wear either all black or all white suits. They are also described in south Russian folklore as field spirits with green hair. According to local beliefs they lead wandering people in a field astray, give them diseases or ride them over with their horses if they are found asleep.
Blud:
one of the Slavic fairies in Slavic mythology is an evil-deity that causes disorientation and leads a person aimlessly around and around.
Gamayun:
a prophetic bird of Russian folklore. It is a symbol of wisdom and knowledge and lives on an island in the mythical east, close to paradise. She is said to spread divine messages and prophecies, as she knows everything of all creation, gods, heroes, and man
Błudnik:
a demon in Slavic mythology, that dwells in the region of użyce. it was said to be a mischievous gnome who used to lead people astray and decoy them into swamps
Dhampir:
a mythical creature in Balkan mythos that is the result of a union between a vampire and a human. This union was usually between male vampires and female humans, with stories of female vampires mating with male humans being rare
Zmei:
a dragon or serpent, or sometimes a human-like character with dragon-like traits in Russian mythos
Strzyga:
a female demon in Slavic mythology, which stems from the mythological Strix of Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece. The demon is similar to a vampire and is predominantly found in Polish and Silesian folklore.

A small, semi-hypothetical story for my Creatures of Fairywood Forest AU, a FOP AU where fairies are tiny, Tinkerbell-esque creatures more in line with fairy mythology both new and old.
In this story, Periwinkle, having been long since captured by Dev & Dale Dimmadome, contemplates why he doesn't just leave during a golden opportunity to do so.
More info about the AU here.
Wanna hear more rambles and writing snippets? Check out the Discord server mentioned here.
---
Periwinkle breathed in, shaky and slow.
He, at his core, was a being that craved the outside. Just as any other fairy did. Flying through branches, snacking on flowers, resting with his back against the cool grass. Staring up at the trees, or even better - the bright blue sky.
He hadn't felt that in a while.
Even as he laid back now, with the grass and the sky he so adored, he still didn't. He was miserable. Being out here and knowing he couldn't leave… it was almost worse. It was like he had a hole in his chest, and all the joy he had managed to gather in his time being captured by the Dimmadomes was just leaking out onto the bright environment.
Why didn't he just take the opportunity now?
"So the Crimson Shin is the Crimson Chin's other clone, and he was introduced in 2009."
It would be easy enough to leave.
"Apparently they're gonna introduce him in the next movie, which I'm super excited for."
To just… go.
"He's sort of a misunderstood villain-turned-hero, so he'll probably be evil for this one, but hopefully they'll redeem him pretty quickly! I like him better as a hero."
Honestly, it was selfish to stay. He had family and friends that cared about him, who surely wanted him back home.
Periwinkle turned his head, looking at Dev, bright as a firefly. His hands moved as he talked, rambling on and on about something called 'The Crimson Chin'. A comic book and movie series, he said. Periwinkle thought that he had heard Timmy talk about something similar before, though last he heard it didn't have this much lore. It was honestly a bit overwhelming.
He seemed happy to talk, though, so Periwinkle listened.
… But, again…
It would be so easy. All he'd need is a little glamour. Drop a fake Periwinkle in his place and start flying away as Dev's lost in his ramble.
"Some people online were saying that they should introduce another character, because that trope is kinda overused."
The O-Pairs would be able to spot him through the lie, as he had already figured out. But if he used magic to sap the electricity from them, Dev wouldn't be able to know which way he went, even if he did notice.
"I dunno, I like it though…" Dev shifted his legs, pulling them closer to his body. "It's nice to think that even clones made solely to be evil can be redeemed. Y'know?"
He could do so many things. Use a powerful gust of wind to knock him over. Make the plants grow to tie him up. Start a fire that distracts them. He could use animal magic to make Dev forget! He was a powerful enough fairy to influence humans, and at this point he was sure that everyone would understand why he broke the rules!
"It'd be nice, at least," Dev sighed, ripping grass out of the ground. The O-Pair buzzed away beside him. “If that could…”
He checked his phone with one hand, mouth twitching downward. Periwinkle sat up.
"You okay, kid?"
"Yeah, I-" he yanked harder, pulling a whole wad of them out. "It's time to go. Curfew, you know. I'm sure Dad's missing me!"
He chucked the blades of grass at the ground, only seeming to get more mad when they made absolutely zero impact. Periwinkle's wings twitched.
"You- I- ugh!" Dev shoved his phone back in his pocket, with enough force that it would absolutely have ripped if it were like the leaves that adorned Periwinkle's body. "I can't- grr."
He hadn't been with the Dimmadomes for very long, but he already knew full well that Dale wouldn't be missing him at home. He never was. That's why he didn't even know about these outings, about Dev letting Periwinkle see the sun.
Periwinkle fluttered over, landing on Dev's shoulder.
"Wanna tell me more about the Crimson Chin as you walk home? Just pretend you're on one of those 'calls' or something."
Dev stared off into the distance. When Periwinkle followed his gaze, he only saw a child playing with their parent. He didn't usually regret his tiny size, but…
"Yeah, alright," Dev muttered. "Remember to hide."
"Already on it, kid," Peri said, slipping into the jacket's hood. "You were talking about the Crimson Shin in the upcoming movie?"
He felt Dev start walking as he snuggled in, movements slow.
"Uh, yeah," he said. "Yeah, so, he's definitely not my favorite, but he's one of the better ones, and that's why…"
Peri listened. That’s all he could do. Even as his mind still strayed elsewhere…
Truly, it was the perfect opportunity. Why hadn't he left?

My Autodesk Sketchbook is being a bit of a butt and is practically begging me to throw it an extremely long distance, so while that's the case, please take this little sneak peak of another Welcome Home AU that I have in the works!
This AU is called...
Forest Folk AU!
I thought of this AU while thinking about the folk music that I have in one of my Spotify playlists, and I don't remember seeing anything too similar to this before, so here you go!
In this AU, the neighbors are all combined with different creatures that are either from folklore/fantasy/mythology, are inspired by said creatures, or are just little forest critters that you may also find in a ren fair!
The first few characters are under the cut, but I'll be sure to post the rest soon!
Here are the first few characters and their descriptions!
These guys are colorless for now, but I'll give them color soon!
Tumblr media
Here is this AU's Wally! I thought that it would be fitting to make him a charming and gentle Faun, which are the pretty people with deer legs! He has the closest bond with Home, which I plan on making a big ol' tree that controls part of the forest that these guys live in. This kinda makes him a sort of protector of Home, and he's protective of the other critters that call Home their... well... home. He can also turn into a deer, and he does this to be able to go into the town near by with little suspicion, as well as to travel quickly and to scare off people sometimes!
Tumblr media
Next is Barnaby! In this AU, he is inspired by the creature titled Cù-Sith, which is a big ol' hound made of grass found in Celtic folklore. Barnaby is a lot less scary and hateful than this creature, but he is still a little gruff and intimidating with new people, though he becomes much nicer as one warms up to him! He is still besties with Wally of course, and he is surprisingly comfy to lay on! (That is, if you don't mind the feeling of grass!)
Tumblr media
Next up to bat is Frank! He is half human and half butterfly fairy, which I found fitting! He lives in a town that is near Home, and he uses some of his fairy magic to hide his fairy-ness from the townsfolk, lest he get chastised or even killed. He is still in slight denial of his fairy lineage, but it's kinda hard to completely deny this with his large, pretty butterfly wings. Frank's wings are likely too light to let him fly, although they do sparkle in the sunlight, which is very pretty! Frank still loves studying butterflies, although he is also interested in folklore!
Tumblr media
Eddie looks kinda small in this drawing, but he is certainly not small in reality! Him being a centaur not only makes him pretty big, but it also helps him greatly when he is delivering mail! Two extra legs really do wonders for traveling, that's for sure! Also, with his horse body being based off of most work horses, Eddie is a pretty tough and resilient dude, although he is still very humble about his strength and ability. Although, even with four legs, this kind mailman still manages to be clumsy, sometimes forgetting his size and strength. Oops!
Of course, there are still more characters to come for this AU! I just need to finish a couple designs yet and I will be sure to post them!
Also, feel free to add these dudes to your own work! Just be sure that the content they're in is not NSFW in the sexual way, and a little credit is always appreciated! Other than that, go wild!

Hey uhm uhm I fell down a rabbit hole because I saw your crochet comm of the rodent creature on tiktok and I wanted to know what it was and all about it and also offer some varying creatures of my own
Their species names, in order, left to right, top to bottom:
Jayvie (fuzzy venomous salamander)
Morgante(essentially a living hill, hibernates a lot)
Mustela (no one knows what he actually is)
Olfactoron (gliding nose and mouth, a personal favorite)
Lion rabbit (they are neither of those things, they're an alien species that survives entirely off of sugar water, like big fluffy quadrupedal hummingbirds)
The demadog clone is still a wip,,, haven't come up with a real name for them
Fairy grass (fun sugary flora for the lion rabbits)
Scorbeum (guardian of life on a molten planet, commander north is who studies the life forms and names them)
Igneouscattle (will absorb everything they touch into their body for chemical elements and minerals, body consists of primarily phosphorus and they die if they cool down too much)
Oken (Strawberry lover, gets high off of blueberries)
I'd love to see what other species you've made!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
^the tiktok in question
yeah! That’s Jee! It’s a jerboa, which is an actual creature you can see! Really cool and really cute!
I love all your creatures! Mr. Mustela is so fluffy and adorable! The Igneouscattle looks amazing! And the Morgante looks so cool! Reminds me of the turtle islands from Chinese mythology!

QUICK FACTS
tw: stillbirth, references to infanticide, murder (dark!)
pandora was born to a rosier daughter, and a mañosca son. her mother's family was one of the oldest and most sacred in the united kingdom, and her father's was the oldest and most sacred in the philippines. growing up, she spent her time between both countries, in the lap of privilege. she experienced everything the world had to offer.
she noticed how it was kinda weird that her father's family only ever had one male heir per generation. turns out they practice poisoning their unborn male babies so that there's never any contention for the family seat!
her mother killed her dad for revenge when pandora was 8 and came back to the uk with the kids where she moved to one of her family's residences in ireland!!!
people used to call pandora weirdddd growing up, but her mother told her it was because they were jealous <3 . she had bright, starry eyes, thought she could do anything, and had never known the word no, so tended to march to the beat of her own drum. throw in all the weird murder stuff, it just made her have a lilll streak of insanity
she's very tender, very soft, whimsical almost, but definitely has a fierce side to her where she could easily kill for people she loves. very few friends.
she's a spell creator, very imaginative, head in the clouds. definitely an optimist and idealist. has a lot of self-confidence. she also doesn't really know when to stop, and has never known any limits.
also v artistic, loves painting, scrapbooking etc. she's into very sterotypically witchy things, loves herbology and plants and astrology, quite mystical, maybe pretends to be a seer and gives people fake prophecies for shits n giggles
in terms of the war, she's neutral/a pacifist. her family's big on blood purity but she's not really bothered. she's just doing her own thing
WANTED CONNECTIONS
friends! she has only a few but would kill for them.
people who she doesn't like. pandora can be vicious, sarcastic, mean when she wants to be
xenophilius lovegood....

Faeries in Sweden
Faeries, also known as "väsen," are an important part of the mythological and cultural landscape of Swedish folklore. These ethereal creatures are frequently portrayed as supernatural beings that live in the natural world and have a variety of effects on human life. These faeries, often referred to as "älvor" (elves) or "vittra," are thought to live in forests, meadows, and other natural areas as the embodiment of the land's spirit.
Sweden's most well-known faerie species are called "skogsrå" or "huldra." A lovely woman with a hollow back and a tail who can charm and seduce men is the traditional description of the skogsrå. Legend has it that she protects the forest and all its inhabitants, rewarding those who respect her realm and punishing those who do harm to it. Because of the strong bond that Swedes have with the outdoors, encounters with skogsrå can evoke feelings of both fascination and danger.
Tumblr media
A intriguing further facet of Swedish faerie tales is that of the "tomte" or "nisse," a diminutive gnome-like creature that protects homes and fields. The tomte, who works around the farm in exchange for respect and a bowl of porridge with butter, is renowned for being both protective and helpful. On the other hand, the tomte may turn spiteful or mischievous if ignored or insulted. This image emphasizes the value of preserving peaceful ties with these fabled creatures by highlighting concern and respect for one another.
The "älvor," ethereal creatures connected to dusk and moonlit evenings, are another subject of Swedish faerie tales. It is reported that these faeries dance in circles in the meadows, leaving "älvringar," or fairy rings, behind them in the form of flattened grass or rings of mushrooms. Meeting the älvor can be a thrilling but dangerous event since those who interrupt their dances may find themselves lured into their realm and occasionally lose their sense of location or time.
In Swedish tradition, there exists another kind of faeries known as vittra, who are said to reside underground in a civilization that is a reflection of the human world. It's reported that these entities have their own farms and livestock, and that occasionally, people can spot them looking after their invisible cattle. People know that the vittra can do favors for them as long as they are treated with dignity. When someone disturbs their homes—for example, by erecting a structure on their property—it may come back to haunt them.
Tumblr media
These folktales aren't just artifacts from the past; they still have an impact on Swedish culture today. They convey a profound reverence for the natural world and a conviction that there is more out there. The moral teachings imparted by faerie tales emphasize the value of showing respect and care for the environment and its invisible inhabitants.
In summary, faeries are guardians, tricksters, and middlemen between humans and nature in Swedish mythology, representing the enigmatic and magical aspects of the natural world. These fables use characters such as älvor, vittra, tomte, and skogsrå to illustrate themes of environmental harmony, prudence, and respect. They are a living example of Sweden's rich mythological past, captivating and motivating people even now.

"Wow, really? I gotta get in on that! And thanks for supporting my business, if you want a flower! That's really nice of you!"
Most people jumped at the thought of something free, but this person didn't seem to be one of them. It was... almost strange, that they wouldn't accept one of the most beautiful autumn flowers that grew in the season for free.
"...But are you sure?"
Kounosuke pulled out a rose from his basket.
"It's said to attract mythological creatures, when planted in the ground. These are some expensive flowers, are you sure you wanna buy one? It's at least three thousand yen! Although..." He winked. "For you, I could offer a discount."
Being friendly was so important to this tanuki.
"If you plant it in grass, it's said to attract fairies. Near water, it's said you'll meet a real live mermaid! They're called the 'Fairy Rose', and I really love growing them."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fyodor had photographic memory. He remembered faces and names of those he took a liking to. Though despite his perfect memory, sometimes he just never BOTHERED to remember other people's names, just because they held no interest...
"Yes, you remember me! Oh, you're in town selling flowers? That's actually rather sweet. I am flattered you'd give me some for free-- but I am a man who enjoys supporting businesses. So I would insist I purchase and not simply take."
The Russian didn't like to just accept free things. Despite having issues accepting offers, he at least knew how to insist paying if someone offered him something for free.
"Also-- I feel like going to the Yokohama park would be a perfect place to set up. It's right now busy with people watching the leaves turn. So many folks are walking around the park. I am sure many would be interested in your flowers."

✨ Mods visuais que utilizo
Tumblr media

Veela (or Vila in Serbian, Wiła in Polish) is a magical creature whose infinite beauty inspired many poems, novels, and movies. According to the legends, the beauty of their bodies, magical dances, and lovely voices is beyond the mortal’s imagination.
These mysterious beings are not exclusively part of Slavic mythologies. The fact that Veelas dwell in Slavic legends as well as in Nordic and ancient myths, demonstrates the archaic origins of these delicate creatures. Even though they are seductive and graceful, Veela are passionate warriors as well. Veela usually likes people who fight for a righteous cause. In Serbian epic poems, you will see them helping the heroes with their prophetic and healing powers.
The favorite activity of Veela is dance. Sometimes people explained circular shapes of darker grass in the fields as being trodden by fairies dancing during the night. Stepping into this place was considered the cause of insanity.

Lithuanian pre-Christian mythology and snake worship (part 3)
(copied from Twitter)
Many of the adjectives in Lithuanian for snakes are "related to the names for the devil"; there is also a "queen of all snakes" and "Even wizards try to avoid it as they cannot hope to overpower it"
Tumblr media
Which is great because I hate wizards. Hogwarts wizards, exorcist wizards, all of you get bit by the snake queen
Raudonoji, "the red one", "a lethal venomous creature that dwells deep underground and only emerges once in seven years to strike people dead"
Tumblr media
"Naming the snake after its 'missing' body part - horns" "They say there is a snake with some sort of horns. That's the leader. Its bite takes twelve enchanters to cure. One just will not cut it."
Tumblr media
Naming snakes after metals: copper snake, brass snake, silver snake, gold snake, iron snake Rascally feather snake
Tumblr media
"a culprit responsible for a plethora of sins", "The iron snake only strikes once in seven years, and it does not choose its target, and its strike is incurable"
Tumblr media
"In fairy tales, the snake bestows the treasure to those who have its favour: 'And that snake would emerge from its hole, and bring all sorts of precious stones and golden toys to the kid'" Judgment snake, judgment snake!
A large vocabulary for glittering or sparkling snakes. The sheeny one, little light, the glittering one, "sparkles like a grass snake"
Tumblr media
Days when snakes go into hiding and reappear
Tumblr media
