GQ Global Creativity Awards 2024: Introducing Our Sophomore Class of Visionary Honorees
Our second-annual gala celebrating “Big Ideas for a Better World” kicks off on April 11 in New York City.
The GQ Global Creativity Awards are back! Our second-annual gala celebrating the industry-spanning innovators who are setting the tone for an increasingly multidisciplinary, creativity-minded world will take place on April 11 in New York. As GQ's global editorial director Will Welch explained last year, the very notion of creativity has morphed from being a mercurial quality possessed by some, into the "most desirable cultural currency of our times." In turn, the GCAs were conceived to answer a question, as Welch put it: "In a world where everybody wants to be creative, who are the real-deal global icons setting the bar?" This year, our 2024 Global Creativity Awards honorees are: Lewis Hamilton, F1-transcending powerhouse. Hunter Schafer, Hollywood star and activist. Danny McBride, renaissance funnyman. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, legendary rock gods turned Oscar-winning composers. And rounding out GQ's GCAs Class of 2024 are the American multimedia artist Lauren Halsey, Marni's surrealistic creative director Francesco Risso, and ground-shaking Afrobeats innovator Asake. All of the honorees will join us for our big bash on April 11, where the evening's MC will be none other than Emmy-winning comedy veteran JB Smoove, hot on the heels of Curb Your Enthusiasm's swan-song season. As with our inaugural GCAs gala last spring, where we honored Apple CEO Tim Cook, Hollywood multi-hyphenate Donald Glover, global breakout star Hoyeon, and fashion world-builder Yohji Yamamoto, this year's event is a celebration of "Big Ideas for a Better World." Either way, it's sure to be a night full of great speeches, killer style, and other major surprises. Stay tuned here for more details.

𝗟𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 (10 years)
Dear Imologang
Currently you are an ambitious, lowkey self-conscious, broke, beaten and hopeful 19 year old who just viewed different Met Gala outfits and stated that one day you are gonna attend the Met Gala idk how plus Anok Yai ate that shit, who has for the longest time been battling with a lot of insecurities inflicted by both loved ones and strangers and I'm not gonna lie, you have been fighting and that's what I truly admire about you...You are a fighter. "You are more powerful than the things that kill you" (Ukh0na's word '19'). This letter is the funniest shit ever I just hope everything comes true and that by God's grace I attend the Vma's and do that successful shit. Plus this is the longest introduction ever in the history of letters ;(.
Okay I'm losing sight of why I am writing this letter cause this is not a sob story letter but it is a letter to express how proud I am of you and its a letter to remind you how powerful you are to have made it this far plus in a way it is a manifestation letter to God. I know that I am writing this letter in advance so I can't really be sure what the future truly holds but I'm really rooting that it will be the best time of your life.
For one, I envision you achieving all the things you were claiming you are gonna do. You hustled your hardest, you took yourself out of the darkest place which was your fears and you made it. Having attended an abroad University, I don't know which but yes you faced tough times, you lacked the skills, the resouces, the capital and you made it work cause you believed in yourself more than anyone else did and you belived in God and God believed in me. Even so you will probably meet people who will make life a little hard but you will learn from them and the God, the universe and all the good energies are rooting for you. Plus save money, that's really important.
You are gonna be amongst the greats and you are gonna help many people through your great ideas. You are gonna give seminars in your own building (Africa's largest maybe second largest building), you are gonna be a great creator/creative. Plus you are finally gonna meet Elsa Majimbo ;) just wanted to add that hehe I really love her <3333.
People will make fun of you, doubt you cause of course being on the comeup comes with having haters. Some may write lies about you & some maybe harsh truths but remind yourself of the goodness that is within you. Always tell the truth for even if it is hard, for these are the lessons for your growth. Plus mind your damn business too cause you never know what shit you might get pulled into, that will save you from alot. You will fall in and out of love some may hurt and some may serve as lessons but never give up on love.
You are gonna finally gonna make your dreams come true. You are gonna be a great Chairman of Afrocan Org & Co chair of Sariro botanicals , photographer, model, fashion designer, maybe a singer on the side like Amandla Stenberg, maybe athlete, something involving coding and computers, business woman and creative director. What I'm saying is you can be anything you want, it will be hard, you will lose hope but I'm rooting for you, remember to be kind, humble and remember where you started and be intentional.
The generational wealth you requires for your famiky begins with you.
Can't wait for you to cover Vogue, GQ and all the great magazines and meet many great people, don't forget who you are.
Manifest, Visualise & Achieve.
Create. Explore. Expand Conquer
Post...Onwards and Upwards
I love you
Forever and always

Harry Styles has appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair and GQ. But the singer's recent cover is the most provocative yet.
Now, on one cover of Beauty Papers, a biannual magazine based in London, the 26-year-old sits bare-chested in a pair of fishnet stockings and heeled Gucci loafers. In a second cover, he wears a suit and lipstick, his face expertly contoured.
Harry Styles on the cover of Beauty Papers Credit: Casper SejersenInside the magazine's Summer 2020 "Revolution" issue, Styles, shot by Danish photographer Casper Sejersens, poses in a wardrobe that includes Mary Janes, '70s-inspired suiting, a traditional bowler hat and a showgirl's headdress, deftly defying gender norms of dress.
Together, these looks capture "Styles's multifaceted joy in creating new identities and personas," the magazine wrote in a press release. "He is everything, known, unknown, famous and infamous."
The images in the issue, which also features a creepy clown-inspired shoot by fashion photographer Tim Walker, "viscerally responds to the shrinking freedoms of our world with an explosion of individuality, creativity, diversity and unity," according to the release.
This isn't the first time Styles has embraced androgynous dressing. A long-time fan of traditionally feminine colors and fabrics (and accessories -- who could forget his pearl earring at the 2019 Met Gala?), the One Direction band member and solo artist wore a bold yellow suit from Marc Jacobs' Spring-Summer 2020 womenswear collection to the Brit Awards in February, and a ballerina tutu in a portrait as part of his guest hosting of Saturday Night Live last year. And in December 2019, he donned a Comme des Garçons dress in his cover shoot for The Guardian Weekend magazine.
"What women wear. What men wear. For me it's not a question of that," Styles told The Guardian in the accompanying interview. "If I see a nice shirt and get told, 'But it's for ladies.' I think: 'Okaaaay?' Doesn't make me want to wear it less though... I think the moment you feel more comfortable with yourself, it all becomes a lot easier."
And it seems fans ar e responding positively to this outlook. On March 17, Beauty Papers, founded by makeup artist Maxine Leonard and brand consultant Valerie Wickes, announced on Twitter that its site had crashed due to the high number of visitors trying to order a copy of the issue. Currently, sales remain suspended as existing orders are fulfilled.

Harry Styles
His fashion has been noted as "flamboyant", "fashion-forward" and "fun". Citing his use of the colour pink, Styles quoted English musician and The Clash's bassist Paul Simonon in a Rolling Stone interview: "Pink is the only true rock & roll colour." Ann Powers of NPR wrote that his personal style recalls the Spice Girls' "theatrical parade through pop's sartorial heritage" and that he "comforts with fashion's way of telling stories through artful accessories." Tom Lamont of The Guardian noted that some of Styles' fashion choices have contributed to "an important political discussion about gendered fashion."
Styles won the British Style Award at the 2013 Fashion Awards. In 2018, Styles was voted fourth on British GQ's list of 50 best-dressed men, in which fashion designer Michael Kors deemed him "the modern embodiment of British rocker style: edgy, flamboyant and worn with unapologetic swagger."
Journalist and editor Anna Wintour chose Styles to be a co-chair of the 2019 Met Gala alongside Lady Gaga and Serena Williams, which preceded the art exhibition Camp: Notes on Fashion. In 2020, Styles became the first man to appear solo on the cover of Vogue, for its December issue. Following criticism from conservative commentators and activists for wearing a Gucci gown on the cover, Styles defended his decision by saying, "To not wear something because it's females' clothing, you shut out a whole world of great clothes." He went on to say that "what's exciting about right now is you can wear what you like" and that the lines "are becoming more and more blurred. "He was voted GQ's Most Stylish Man of the Year in 2020.
Grayson Perry
Grayson Perry (born 24 March 1960) is an English contemporary artist, writer and broadcaster. He is known for his ceramic vases, tapestries and cross-dressing, as well as his observations of the contemporary arts scene, and for dissecting British "prejudices, fashions and foibles".
From an early age he liked to dress in women's clothes and in his teens realised that he was a cross-dresser. At the age of 15 he moved in with his father's family in Chelmsford, where he began to go out dressed as a woman. When he was discovered by his father he said he would stop but his stepmother told everyone about it and a few months later threw him out.
Perry frequently appears in public dressed as a woman, and he has described his female alter-ego, "Claire", variously as "a 19th century reforming matriarch, a middle-England protester for No More Art, an aero-model-maker, or an Eastern European Freedom Fighter", and "a fortysomething woman living in a Barratt home, the kind of woman who eats ready meals and can just about sew on a button". In his work Perry includes pictures of himself in women's clothes: for example Mother of All Battles (1996) is a photograph of Claire holding a gun and wearing a dress, in ethnic eastern European style, embroidered with images of war, exhibited at his 2002 Guerrilla Tactics show.
Perry has designed many of Claire's outfits himself. Also, fashion students at Central Saint Martins art college in London take part in an annual competition to design new dresses for Claire. An exhibition, Making Himself Claire: Grayson Perry's Dresses, was held at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, from November 2017 to February 2018.
As of 2010 he lives in north London with his wife, the author and psychotherapist Philippa Perry. They have one daughter, Florence, born in 1992.
Leigh Bowery
Leigh Bowery (26 March 1961 – 31 December 1994) was an Australian performance artist, club promoter, and fashion designer. Bowery was known for his flamboyant costumes and makeup as well as his performances. Bowery was born and raised in Sunshine, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. From an early age, he studied music, played piano, and went on to study fashion and design at RMIT for a year. He moved to London in 1980: 'I was so itchy to see new things and to see the world, that I just left', he said in 1987. There he found himself part of the New Romantic club scene. He worked in a clothing shop and appeared in commercials for Pepe jeans. He soon became an influential and lively figure in the underground clubs of London and New York, as well as in art and fashion circles. He attracted attention by wearing wildly outlandish and creative outfits that he made himself. As a fashion designer he had several collections and shows in London, New York and Tokyo. He has influenced designers and artists. He was known for wildly creative costumes, makeup, wigs and headgear, all of which combined to be striking and inventive and often kitschy or beautiful.
Bowery influenced other artists and designers including Alexander McQueen, Lucian Freud, Vivienne Westwood, plus numerous Nu-Rave bands and nightclubs in London and New York City.
Jaden Smith
Jaden Smith (born July 8, 1998) sometimes known by just the mononym Jaden is an American actor, rapper, singer, and songwriter. GQ described Smith as "in a league of his own" in terms of fashion and a "superstar who has taken fashion to an entirely different level". Smith has called Tyler the Creator, Batman and Poseidon his icons when it comes to fashion. Smith said that Tyler the Creator introduced him to the brand Supreme. Batman's dark, gothic scenery has influenced the clothing he has created through his brand MSFTSrep and his personal clothing style, wearing Batman protective armor to Kanye West's and Kim Kardashian's wedding and his prom. MSFTSrep's range includes hoodies, T-shirt, trousers and vests. In May 2013 Smith collaborated with a Korean designer, Choi Bum Suk, to create a pop-up store in which customers can buy clothes with their collaborated logos.
Smith raised controversy in 2016 after modelling in a womenswear campaign for Louis Vuitton wearing a skirt. Explaining his choice to wear a skirt, Smith said he was attempting to combat bullying, saying "In five years, when a kid goes to school wearing a skirt, he won't get beat up and kids won't get mad at him." Smith continued to wear womenswear throughout the rest of 2016. Smith was the first male model to model women's wear for Louis Vuitton. Smith created a denim-line with fashion brand G-Star in 2018.
