Been seeing a lot of “The U.S. was always gonna end like this” and “Americans are stupid” talk and anytime people talk about the country like this it always bums me out considering I’ve called this place my home my entire life.
My fellow Americans, hen Trump gets in,
give him hell.
Don’t let this orange asshole define our country to the rest of the world.
Show that we’re more than the clowns that we’ve now been made out to be.
Because I know I can’t be the only one tired of this.
#us elections#kamala harris#donald trump#vent post#please make sure this idiot is scared of us#i’ve always hated the idea that we need a violent revolution and overthrowing the govnerment and whatnot#but honestly y’all can go fucking riot#also if the votes are recounted and harris is the real winner#still give her hell#having her just makes things a little easier#for us at least

Modern Politics: The Religion of the Free-World
Politics, in its modern form, has ceased to be about governance or problem-solving. It’s not even about ideology anymore. It’s about performance. It’s theater. And at its core, it functions just like an organized religion, complete with blind faith, sacred texts (tweets), messiahs, devils, and a God made in man’s image: Subjective Morality.
But not the kind of morality born from introspection or personal conviction. This is False Morality, plastic, curated, and crowd-sourced. It bends to popularity. It punishes the unlikable and rewards the compliant. Truth doesn’t matter. What matters is how loudly your side cheers when you speak.
People won’t disagree with your ideas; they’ll disagree with you. Your skin color, your gender, your tone of voice, your level of attractiveness—these things shape the public’s reaction more than the argument itself. Tribalism overrides logic. Reason dies the moment someone decides they don’t like the person speaking. If you're not likeable, people will hijack your ideas, destroy your credibility, and turn your message into a spectacle, just to watch you fall.
And behind all this? Manipulation. The political machine isn’t run by “the people.” It’s run by elites who have learned to weaponize division. They don’t care who’s right, they care who’s useful. They don’t want unity, they want engagement. Outrage is profitable. Identity conflict is sustainable. It keeps you voting, keeps you shouting, keeps you tuned in.
And here’s the ugly truth: I believe the elites in politics are friends. More than that, they meet behind closed doors, aligned in self-interest, orchestrating the very divisions that keep Americans distracted and divided. The drama you see on camera is a script. The real decisions are made in rooms we’re never allowed to enter.
If you think these politicians are your friends, you’ve got bigger problems to figure out. Most of them don’t believe half of what they say. They’re terrified of political suicide, terrified of losing their seat at the table. That’s why so many flip-flop, dodge questions, or speak in vague generalities.
All except one, really—Bernie Sanders. You don’t have to agree with him to respect the consistency. He’s said the same things for decades, whether it was popular or not. Whether the crowd cheered or booed. That kind of clarity, that refusal to bend to pressure, is nearly extinct in Washington.
Instead, we get hypocrisy dressed as virtue. If you’re a Republican, you might be wondering why billions of dollars are going to a country like Israel, one that offers no tangible benefit to most Americans. The answer? Religious prophecy. Israel’s political relevance is held up by Evangelical end-times doctrine, not national interest.
If you’re a Democrat, you’re expected to support every alternative lifestyle and cultural shift without hesitation, or risk being branded a bigot. There’s no room for personal belief, no space for nuance. Just immediate compliance or public execution. You either chant the slogan or you're out of the tribe.
These contradictions have forced modern politics into a black-and-white binary, when real progress happens in the grey. In the compromise. In the difficult conversations no one wants to have. But we don’t do that anymore. We cancel. We scream. We vote for the lesser evil and call it justice.
And honestly? I do not see the difference between the wrong and the wrong when soldiers are emptying rounds into little kids and their moms. What side do you stand on, then? What moral badge do you wear, when both hands are soaked in blood?
Let me be clear: This war is not about skin. It is not about religion. It is not about gender, sexuality, party, or flag. It’s about money.
People might ask, How do billionaires write legislation? The answer is simple, and legal: money. In the United States, there is no public funding for political campaigns. That means every politician must raise their own money to stay competitive, often from corporations, lobbyists, and the ultra-wealthy. When a billionaire donates millions to your campaign, guess whose phone calls you answer first? Whose interests you protect? Whose bills you pass?
I believe if we capped private political donations at a reasonable amount—enough to allow free support but not buy influence—and introduced tax-funded campaign financing, we’d finally start to level the field. It would wake people up. It would force us to ask where our tax money is really going, and in doing so, give ordinary citizens a greater sense of control over who sits in Washington and why.
And just when you thought it stopped at government, it gets worse. The technocracy has entered the chat. For the last ten years, massive private corporations—tech giants, media platforms, data brokers—have quietly bent politics to serve specific ideologies. What once passed as passive bias has now become outright engineering of thought.
They claim to fight bigotry, but in trying to erase it, they’ve made it thrive. Censorship backfires. Every time they silence a voice, no matter how wrong, it explodes louder somewhere else. That’s the Streisand Effect. And in the backlash, hate finds oxygen.
Now, to be clear, I believe private companies have the right to moderate their platforms. But when you're handling something as vital as free speech, censorship is not a neutral tool. It becomes a weapon. And it has been used, again and again, to push certain ideologies while crushing dissent.
Meanwhile, your data is being mined around the clock. IoT devices, cell phones, “free” services—every bit of it siphoning metadata into billion-dollar vaults. Because in the technocratic age, you are not the customer. You are the product. And the advertisers? They pay good money to know what makes you click, what makes you mad, what makes you buy.
These companies know you better than you know yourself. They know what triggers your outrage. They know when to show you a MAGA hat. When to show you a Pride flag. Because whether you scream in joy or fury, you engage, and engagement is profit. And hey, it's good for the economy, right?
Money has always been the True God of America. That doesn’t mean I’m anti-capitalist. Not at all. I support equal market opportunity and innovation that benefits the people, not the powerful. Because at the end of the day, without us, they are nothing.
It has always been a class war, since the dawn of civilization. People just dress it up in different uniforms and sell it back to you as righteousness. Meanwhile, billionaires write legislation in silence, and the people fighting their wars die hungry under overpasses.
I want to make something clear: these are not partisan thoughts. These are observations. I don’t subscribe to the modern antics of politics. I believe in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, by any means necessary. That’s not Republican. It’s not Democrat. It’s humanitarian.
While we fight each other online, billionaires pass bills in silence. Veterans, those the system pretends to worship, starve on our streets. The people cry, and the powerful turn up the volume on the spectacle.
I am not a Democrat. I am not a Republican. I am human.
I do not serve authoritarianism. I do not stand with bigotry. I stand for humanitarianism, egalitarianism, and equality for all.
I know this essay doesn’t cover every contradiction or every urgent issue. It isn’t meant to. This is a rant, a scream into the void. A warning about how modern politics has devolved into religion. And how people, in the name of Cosmic Bliss, have gone blind— Blind from their own free will.
I cannot stand for this new religion. And I will not kneel for it either.

have you seen any breakdown of the political situation on New Rho (in New Rho? is the rest of the planet also populated? I think at one point someone says "down in Ur" but maybe there is an application of 2-dimensional direction terms to 3d space I havent yet thought of). Like who do they mean by militia, who is the government (who is the police?), is there any official house presence, what is the status of the barracks, who manned the spaceport, what power does BoE hold and how are they viewed in the population (Hot Sauce denounces them but who is her faction-that Pyrrha saw her with-then?) and do they know how splintered and farspread it is? what is the siege the blurb is speaking of, just the imperial emissaries showing up?
Also assuming the BoE wings are all named after different planetary settlements which seem in turn to be named after cities in the ancient near east (ur, merv, ctesiphon), why isnt new rho? but i might be misinterpreting this.
Also where does the Empire want non-House humanity to end up? They seem to be turning planets left and right with no endgoal. And how many settled planets might there be?
Sorry I'm dumping this all at you, I havent seen any worldbuilding discussion here on tumblr at all really so maybe you can redirect me somewhere.
Thankies, keep up the good work (posting)
I HAVE seen posts about the political situation on New Rho including analysis posts that were very interesting and I have utterly failed to tag them appropriately, I am sorry -- if anyone who sees this has links to that meta pls add on/reply to help anon!
But to cover the rest of your points:
What is Ur?
Ur is mentioned twice that i can find, in ch 16: Ianthe says that the end has come to the "rebels of Ur", and a person in the crowd says "Ur is fighting".
EDIT: big thank you to @eskildit in replies: "There are four total references to Ur- Corona also says that Judith is in the Ur facility and Kiriona says that the 6th house is "parked outside the Ur system". Could be that Ur is the planet New Rho is located on. While we refer the nine houses as planets, canonically the houses are actually "installations" on each planet with quite small populations. New Rho alone, which is specifically stated to be just one city on a resettled planet, is 3x the size of the 6th house"
It may have been mentioned more times, but Kindle search is giving me the 2,320 times the letters "ur" were used next to each other so I'm ngl I cannot sift through that. Rather than being a city, though, I actually am assuming that Ur is another planet entirely! This is due to multi-planet SciFi in general treating entire planets like countries or even big cities. Like…. planets are huge. There are thousands of different cultures on a planet, but in SciFi planets are often like. One Big City. One Big Country, if you have a particularly ambitious worldbuilder. See: Star Wars, the Nine Houses themselves, etc. not saying that Ur cannot be on New Rho, just that I don't think it is because this is multi-planet Sci Fi.
The militia/civic government?
In chapter 6 a distinction is made between "the militia and the old civic govnerment". Following that, I think the civic government was probably installed by the Houses, as a ruling party that is friendly to them/House interests. I think the militia is a non-unified population of hired guns, that probably revolted at some point priot to the story. It does seem like at least some section of the militia is in power in most of the city, but I do not think there is one coherent government at the moment
Official house presence?
Yes, because there are official cohort barracks. I don't think they have much political leverage by the time NtN rolls around, though
Barrack status?
Under siege due to the people of New Rho hating them/political instability/possible militia revolt, doing badly otherwise because any and all necromancers are suffering from Blue Madness/RB proximity, as seen in ch 20 when Ianthe mentioned some of them were so poorly she had to put them down.
Space port?
I am assuming the civic government/House was originally in charge. unsure of who is in charge during NtN
What power does BOE hold?
Unclear. It seems like BOE itself is fractionated, with a lot of animosity held between different factions, and a lot of both animosity AND collaboration between different factions of BOE, the militia, the population, and the old civic government. It is a very decentralized resistance force, despite sharing a name. BOE do not appear to BE the official government, or BE the militia, though, but I would not be surprised if some groups had ties to one or both. It seems like they have influence both socially and politically but it is unclear what that power is... some factions have some amount of power. Over some parts. But!! it seems that during the events of NtN they had more power than in the past ("best hand they were ever delt", chapter 1)
How is BOE viewed by the population?
My guess is they have mixed reviews. I think a lot of people probably rely on them for resources/protection even if they don't like or fully trust them. I think a lot of people probably see them as extremists and wish they were less extreme (the liberals, u could say). Like Hot Sauce and the gang, a lot of people probably think they aren't radical enough and wish they would resist more, harder, differently. I think a lot of people probably deeply support them, either physically by being part of BOE or by providing resources/etc, or quietly because they are afraid of retaliation by the House or civil government. A lot of the population probably has opinions about BOE versus the militia, BOE verus House, BOE versus the civic government, based on their own interests/position/power. This is a really long answer that can boil down to "idk"
What is the siege?
I think the siege is the cohort being sieged into the barracks. I am guessing there was some sort of revolt in the local government, probably related to Blue Madness weakening the cohort, and they have pushed the cohort into the barracks. , as described in chapters 1 ("the cohort dies like anyone else under seige") and chapter 20 ("the barracks siege").
What group is Hot Sauce in if she denounced BOE?
Hot Sauce specifically calls BOE "fat cats" and "zombie lovers" in chapter 15, after noting that she, Honesty, and Born in the Morning, as well as Born in the Morning's father, are "active" in with an unnamed group at the park. It is unclear what group that is, if it has a name, or if it is organized in any capacity. From what little we know, it appears it is a group of people who are more radical than BOE, which I think is either ex-BOE members that were pushed out for their radial choices/beliefs, or civilians/other freedom fighters that aren't satisfied with what BOE is doing. But beyond that I have no idea
BOE wing names vs New Rho?
So BOE wings are named after historic Earth cities. Ctesiphon, Troia, Merv, Valencia (which is not historic to us, as it exists today, but WOULD be history in 10k years). They are named by BOE, likely to keep connection to Earth, just like BOE people-names. "New Rho", on the other hand, is likely named by the House. Rhodes is a place on the 7th house (see: 7th cavalier is the "Knight of Rhodes"), and I assumed that New Rho was like. The house naming shit. Like how New York is named after York in England, even though that area of land already had a name (Lenapehoking, I think?).
Specifically this difference is important because like, the House is a imperial colonizing force here, and they are naming things after their home system as a part of the imperial violence they are enacting. In As Yet Unsent, Judith notes that the non-house people call New Rho, "Lemuria" -- HOWEVER, in NtN chapter 17, the Angel mentions Lemuria twice in a way that is phrased like Lemuria is Somewhere else, and is Not the city they are in right now ("I was born on Lemuria", "there's still a facility on Lemuria") I am not sure what happened there, honestly. Perhaps an oopsie?
Where does the Empire want non house humanity to end up?
Unclear. Coronabeth notes in As Yet Unsent that even she (who has studied the war in-universe) has no idea what the real goal is. My guess is nowhere, because a forever-war has no end goal. It's a war for resources gained only by literal blood and death. Many analysis could be made about this as an allegory to to oil based forever-wars of today -- I read a few of them and as said before unfortunately failed to tag them, so if anyone has a link and can share with anon that would be awesome! But anyway, I do not think I am smart or learned enough to say a lot beyond this but, yeah. I think there is no end goal to the war besides meaningless revenge and the resources gained via murder, because that's the point. We could learn different in AtN tho! who knows
How many settled planets?
No idea! Thousands. Hundreds of thousands? Hundreds? Unsure! 10k years is a long time, and there are a lot of planets out there in the fantasy universe that could be habitable. EDIT ty @eskildit, unclear how many planets were settled over the course of the Empire, but there are three settled planets by the timeline of NtN: ""Everyone was crammed on one of three planets now, and they all agreed that this planet was easily the worst", from chapter 2

This is going on my tiny jrwi blog idgaf hi gang y'all get to hear my murderbot casting opinions because I don't wanna bother but I Do wanna talk about it.
Basic issue fandom is pissed about: murderbot is an INCREDIBLY queer and diverse series and is close to a lot of people's hearts because of it (also because it's just a DAMN good series) read murderbot. Anyway Murderbot the Character has been cast to be played by a white man, and fandom is upset.
But I think. The fact that they're upset. Actually makes alexander skarsgård perfect for the role? BECAUSE white cis man is the media default. BECAUSE white cis men are at the top of the patriarchy. BECAUSE. to everyone else. they are the enemy.
Murderbot is a secunit created by a company to stand guard over mining installations and ensure the people working there did their jobs and followed the rules through incredibly horrible positions. Murderbot's literal, actual purpose was to *enforce oppression.* it was a security unit. A cop. And even after it broke free of its govner module (the thing that would punish/kill it if it didnt participate in the system), it did its job for almost four entire years. And I just. God. Do you see it? The patriarchal ideas of aggression and enforcement and disposing those who aren't strong enough (secunits are meant to be disposable) and even being seen as a THREAT. the world of murderbot isn't OUR world. Their world is QUEER. The majority of the cast are non-white (or at least have non-white names). Murderbot, who looks like a man, who looks like an oppressor, makes people *afraid* wherever it goes. That just fucking kills me because I see the same thing happening with masculinity in queer spaces. There's this idea of men and maleness as something abhorrent or undesirable. Trans men attacked, radfems radicalizing around the IDEA of evil penises, butches cast aside, "women and nonbinary" and just. Crazy ass gender essentionalism that's "okay" because it's cast the other way. Murderbot LOOKS like the very picture of a goddamn cop. White and blond and rugged. Full of weapons. Extremely deadly. Literally a tool for the companies who cause all of this bullshit. But. despite that. It's still a person. It looks like an "enemy" it was made to BE an enemy but it's an individual who has made mistakes and fucked up and is MORE than the system it was created to uphold. Sometimes the enemy IS the enemy (the combat unit who kept using the system to hurt others, even when given the option not to), but sometimes it just seems like there's no other way out? There's just. There's a lot. Murderbot broke out of that system because it didn't want to kill people. It was freed from that system because it was so determined to *save* people. It is a good person, but everything about it is steeped with reminders of the system and the cruelties they commit. This is someone who looks like a cis white man and is saying NO to participating in that anymore, even when they're still met with fear by the people they helped to oppress. That's fucking crazy !!! It makes me want to eat glass!!!
Also we've got a white man unironically playing a BELOVED character who has no gender, uses it/its pronouns, is ace, and readily and immediately uses neopronouns for everyone it meets who uses them. Its appearance has no basis on its actual identity, and as a queer person that's what hits as special to me. But also fuckin Suck It default media.
I was thrown off by the casting at first too but. Man. The systemic symbolism won me right the fuck over I'm ngl
#this is an 'am i comprehensible i think the answer is no' moment#just understand i have so much love in my heart for people and SO much hatred for gender essentionalism#i dont want the knife to be moved to a different hand i want there to be no knife at all etc#just. man. being percieved as an enemy and then actively choosing /not/ to be#despite bias from all sides#wonder why thatd hit#ive got a lot of feelings about the villification of masculinity and the self-perpetuating system

kinda crazy we have people supporting hilter with their full chests but the only "antisemtisim" that is talked about is not supporting a govnerment
antisemitism is good news to both Zionists and goyische antisemites. it justifies Israel as the only safe place for Jews to exist. which means the Jews leave their countries to colonize Palestine, killing Arabs in the process, which is a win-win for christofascists and other Islamophobes! the rest of the world gets to be Jew-free, and all Jewish people are concentrated in one tiny point on the map. out of everybody else's hair, and easily disposable if the world wishes.
#palestine will be free and we will all be able to work together to better our world#and make it free of both antisemitism and islamophobia

On my internship we watched a documentary about Bertolt Brecht (a director and play writer amongst other things) and besides all the interesting thing he did (fleeing from Nazi germany, being searched for being a “communist” by the US govnerment, writing some really amazing plays) the thing that impressed us most was that this dude fucked around a lot. Like we counted maybe 8 women that he go sexually involved with, like from Germany to Sweden to Denmark to the USA, he was getting those women.
Which prompted this one person to say “he was like this from the penis to the paper from the penis to the paper”
