Vibes '05 was one of the best experiences of my life, because it was the Grateful Dead's 40th anniversary celebration. The 50th, two years ago, was way too commercial for everyone's tastes. A lot of people made a lot of money from the 50th, but the Grateful Dead are about making *just enough* money, not about getting filthy rich. The music at Vibes '06 was excellent, but my tent got flooded with several inches of water, and everything I owned except my guitar got soaking wet and many of my belongings, including my car, were covered with mud. I was so upset after Vibes '06 that I thought I would never attend a music festival again. But I was wrong. I've attended about 100 more music festivals since then. I don't attend many events way out of town now unless I'm much better prepared, and I'm now ready for any weather or any type of problem. Mostly I am prepared for anything I bring to have to be replaced, even my car (full coverage). What I've learned from experience is to go to festivals solo if you can, for maximum flexibility.
