>Your name: submit What is this?
Why are so-called friends never consistent? You were beginning to feel like your soul, when it came to friends, was just a revolving door. Every time one of them opened their mouths you got angrier.
“But that's just it-- friends shouldn't make me feel this way. Friends should be there for you, listen to you when you're down, and be ready to stand with you. No-one here is even close to being a friend to me. 'You're our toy’, those idiots, I swear, I am not just a toy!”
“You want a toy?”
You jumped and quickly turned around when you heard someone talk. At first, you didn’t see anything but when you caught something moving in one of the empty classrooms, you furrowed your brows.
"Uh...hello?"
When there was no answer, your feet cautiously moved forward toward the door of the classroom. Your eyes scanned through the window, but you still couldn’t see anyone. Just as your hand touched the doorknob, it started to turn on its own.
Your eyes widened as the door flew open, sending you to run backward as a dark figure poked his head out, he grinned as he stared at you.
”Toys, toys! If you like toys, then you should visit my Black Magic Club.”
Your face contorted at his strange offer and you took a step back from him, inching your way across the hall. He fully emerged from the room and you spotted the black cloak that covered his entire form, his hair was covering his eyes, adding even more emphasis on his emo aesthetic.
”We’ve opened a marketplace that boasts black magic items from across the globe. We’re also holding mass around the clock.”
His arm revealed itself from the cloak, your eyes going big at the puppet his hand was inside.
”If you visit right now, I’ll even throw in a free curse doll.”
He got even closer, a wide smile on his lips as he pushed the doll in your face.
”Don’t you want Belzenef as your free gift?”
Your mouth was agape at the extremely random situation you had found yourself in.
“Um...It sounds like a lovely offer, but I’m not really into that.”
Not even a second after you finished your sentence, you felt hot breath on the back of your neck, startling you to turn around.
“Don’t get involved with that guy, Y/N.”
You huffed from the slight scare he had just given you. “Tamaki, what are you doing here? You shouldn’t breathe down a girl’s neck like that!”
He barely acknowledged your response and only eyed the guy dangerously. ”Stay away from him. If you don’t, you’ll end up being cursed.”
You gulped at the seriousness in his voice. You might’ve been a little superstitious about that kind of stuff, so hearing it made a chill run down your spine. ”W-what? Seriously?”
He grabbed your arm, pulling you away from the strange person, slight fear in his voice as he tried to hurry away. ”Yes! Now come with me Princess, I’ll keep you safe in the music room--”
”No!”
You managed to pull your arm free from his grasp, keeping your feet glued in place. ”I’m not going back in there. You know, I can put up with all the times you make Haruhi and I feel terrible because of the way we live, but I will not tolerate being treated like that.”
Tamaki sighed at your stubbornness, continuously eyeing the guy and his strange doll. ”Oh come on princess, don’t take it seriously. They care for you, as do I. That’s why they’re in there right now, fighting over what happened.”
You crossed your arms over your chest. “Yeah, well they got a funny way of showing it. I barely even know them, but after hearing the things they said about me, I don’t care if I never see them happy again.”
He shook his head, frowning at your statement. “Now Y/N, you know you don’t mean that. Making people happy makes up most of your personality, you’ll probably forget about this whole thing by tomorrow-”
“I’m not gonna be with you tomorrow.”
He paused, now completely forgetting about the hooded figure standing nearby. “What are you talking about?”
You shrugged. “I’m cooking for the headmaster’s event tomorrow, I’m only coming to pick up some supplies and that’s it. I don’t wanna see either of them and if I do, I’ll just ignore them.”
He unintentionally scoffed with a smirk. “You can’t be serious…”
By the look on your face, he knew that you were dead serious. His smirk dropped when he realized it.
“Ah, Tamaki, why did you leave your table so suddenly? You know we can’t keep them waiting. We’re losing valuable time.”
You both turned to see Kyoya emerging from down the hall, a raised eyebrow on his face when he caught sight of the two of you.
“Kyoya, do you happen to know this guy? He was hiding in one of the dark classrooms and keeps trying to make me join something.”
Kyoya adjusted his glasses and looked at you. “His name is Umehito Nekozawa. He’s a third-year who doesn’t really care for brightly lit places. He’s the president of the Black Magic Club. Don’t mind him, he’s just trying to find members since he’s lacking them.”
Remembering why he was with you in the first place, Tamaki’s eyes moved back to the mysterious figure. He pointed a menacing finger on him.
“That creep was bothering Y/N! I had to save her from being cursed!”
Sighing, Kyoya rubbed his forehead. “This curse nonsense again?”
Tamaki put his hands on his hips to emphasize his point. “It’s true! Remember when I wandered into another dimension during a test and I couldn’t understand a thing on my paper? Or when I woke up with my legs like lead? That was all because of his curse, how are you supposed to explain that?!”
Kyoya’s eyes grew heavy with boredom. “First of all, you accidentally wandered into the beginning greek class and took their exam instead which is why you didn’t understand anything, and second, you ran a marathon the day before your legs got heavy, remember?”
“You shouldn’t underestimate the dark powers of Belzenef the curse doll.”
When he appeared right beside them, Tamaki jumped from fear. “All you have to do is write the name of someone you hate on his back and that person is certain to come face to face with misfortune.”
You tilted your head curiously at what he said, growing intrigued at the idea. “Excuse me, Nekozawa? Can I buy one of those curse dolls you mentioned?”
Everyone’s head turned to you. The surprise was evident in their eyes, especially Kyoya’s.
Nekozawa’s entire face lit up as he pulled out one. “But of course!”
Once you finished your exchange, you looked it over, your nose scrunching at the odd smell adorning the wood. But it is a dark magic club, so...
“Y/N, what are you doing?!”
You looked at Tamaki, an innocent look on your face. “What? You gotta admit, it is intriguing. Besides, wouldn’t it be better to hold the power of cursing then being the one cursed?”
Kyoya smirked, a chuckle escaping his lips as he pulled on Tamaki’s sleeve to bring him back to the host club.
“I never would’ve expected that from you, Y/N. I like that mindset. I’ll see you tomorrow, chef.”
You smiled at him as he continued to drag Tamaki away, all while he shouted at you how dangerous it was. You turned, continuing to walk down the hall with your new toy in your hands.
You were so much in your thoughts that you didn’t catch the eyes that witnessed the entire scene.
******
Hikaru’s eyes stayed glued to you until you disappeared down the staircase, a wave of regret washing over him for what he said about you.
“I’m so sorry, Y/N. I didn’t mean to hurt you. You’re the last person I’d ever want to hurt…”
He closed his eyes, your words echoing in his mind.
‘I barely even know them…’
‘There’s no way I’d be interested in any of you…’
He sighed, his shoulders feeling heavier by the second. “Why did you have to say that? I didn’t think she’d be that angry. I think we went a little overboard.”
Kaoru glanced at the floor. “Yeah, I’m sorry, Hikaru. It was in the heat of the moment. But at least they think we’re fighting, right?”
Hikaru smiled at his brother. “Yes, you’re right. Let’s get ready tonight.” His smile transformed into a smirk. “It’s time for phase two.”
******
“Okay, how about I make the dessert and you wash the dishes?”
The glare that you received from her as she chopped the vegetables made you gulp.
“No. We had a deal, honey. I’m making your dinner and you have to wash the dishes. You’re lucky I’m not making you clean this entire kitchen, you are so messy it’s not even funny.”
You placed your head on the island and closed your eyes. “Fine. Whatever, I don’t care.”
Her eyebrows raised at your bratty tone. She put down the knife and walked over to you, wiping her hands on her apron. “Okay, do you want me to listen, give advice, or beat someone up? Pick your parenting technique.”
You loudly groaned and rubbed your temples in annoyance. “It’s nothing. I just had a bad day. Those idiotic twins made me angry.”
She raised her head, her mouth forming an ‘O’ shape. “Oh, so it’s about those boys again, huh? What did they do?”
You frowned, keeping your eyes on the table. “They just said some things that irritated me. They keep treating me however they want just because they know me from back then.”
Her eyebrows formed a straight line. “What do you mean? Wait, they know?”
You glanced at her, noting her worried expression. You shook your head. “No, they don’t. None of them do and I intend to keep it that way. We met one time outside my old school when this bully tried to pick on them. I chased him away then they asked who I was, somehow came up with the nickname ‘butterfly’ and made me play their stupid spot the twin game. That’s literally it.”
The corners of her lip turned up. “You sound like you’re trying so hard to not care. But I know you sweet pea, and I know you care for these twins. And from what I’ve heard, you’re beginning to care for this host club.”
You rolled your eyes at her, getting off your chair. “Sure. But it doesn’t even matter cause it’s not like they’ll ever know the real me when I’m not at work-”
*ding dong*
At the alerting noise, you both put your attention to the front door, then shared a glance at one another.
You turned and marched over to the wooden door. Crouching, you looked through the peephole, and who you saw made you hurriedly open the door not even a second there.
You smiled when you saw her. “Haruhi?”
She grinned at you, holding up a large box. “Surprise, neighbor!”
You slowly closed the door behind you. “What are you doing here? It’s pretty late.”
Her lips pressed together. “Well, I know how upset you were after the whole thing with the twins. I thought you could use a friend tonight. So, I thought we could have some dinner!”
The sincerity in her tone was enough to lift your gloomy mood. “Really? That’s really sweet. Wow, thank you, Haruhi.”
You looked back at the kitchen where she was curiously looking at you, mouthing ‘who is it?’ and opened the door wide. “Come on in.”
She happily skipped inside but stopped short when she spotted the extra person.
“Oh! Hi, I’m Haruhi. I’m a friend of Y/N’s.”
She smiled in response, walking over to reach a hand out to Haruhi. “Oh how nice. I’m always happy to meet Y/N’s friends. Hinata Kitahara, but you can just call me Hinata. What brings you here this late, Haruhi?”
Haruhi outstretched her arms, showcasing the box. “I thought I’d come over and share some of this dish I made. It isn’t much and probably isn’t nearly as good as Y/N’s but I thought she’d need a pick me up.”
Taking the box, Hinata stared at it in surprise. “Well, that’s very nice of you. I’ll put another place setting then.”
She then looked at you, snapping her fingers. “Y/N, go to the hall closet and get your friend a placemat and extra dishware.”
As you hurried off to get what she asked, Haruhi giggled at the sight. “Wow, if anybody at the club talked to her like that, Y/N would never be that eager.”
Her eyes widened. “You’re in the host club with her? I thought it was all guys minus her.”
Haruhi’s teeth clenched as she explained her situation to her.
“My, that is quite the pickle. And quite a large debt. I hope they’re treating you right, even if you’re not exactly a man as you’re there.”
Haruhi waved her hand at her. “Of course, they may be a lot sometimes but they don’t ever cross the line.”
“Well that’s good.“ Haruhi watched as Hinata turned and noticed the details of her appearance. She reminded Haruhi of you when you cooked, but something about her just displayed a sense of elegance as if she was someone with manners of high class.
“I hope you don’t mind me saying, but you did a good job with Y/N, she handles the shenanigans of the members really well and she seems to tackle everything thrown at her with ease. I honestly wish I was more like that. And looking at you, I can certainly see where she gets it.”
She spun around with pure shock on her face from Haruhi’s confession. “Oh...well, thank you. She is quite something, isn’t she?”
She placed her hands on her hips, a warm smile spreading on her face as she looked off in thought.
“I always knew there was something special about that girl. I feel so happy to have her in my life. Honestly, I never thought I’d love someone as much as I love her. Like she was my own daughter…”
Without another word, she turned around and placed down continued preparing her food.
It took a moment for Haruhi to process what she had said. Slowly, her eyes widened once it processed in her mind.
“Hold on, what do you mean ‘like’? I thought you were her mother? That’s why she lives with you and has your last name.”
Hinata went still, knife frozen mid-air, and Haruhi couldn’t tell, but her hand began to shake. Biting her lip, she looked at Haruhi over her shoulder, a serious expression on her face.
“No. I’m not her mother.”
She placed the knife down and let out a shaky breath. “I took Y/N in when she was 15, and we moved here when she turned sixteen, which was two years ago. That’s when we started this business.”
Haruhi listened to every word without an expression, growing more confused. “If that’s so, then what about her family? Her parents?”
She instantly shook her head, putting a finger to her lips. “That isn’t for me to tell. Y/N isn’t very comfortable talking about what happened so please don’t mention it. She’ll tell you if she wants but that’s all I can say.”
Haruhi stared at her before nodding. “I understand.”
Her eyes snapped to you when you walked back into the room, your hands full with the tableware. “Okay, there were a lot of styles that looked super pretty so I just picked with my eyes closed.”
With a huff, you placed them on the kitchen table and put them in their proper place. You looked up, noticing their expressions, and immediately straightened up.
“What happened?” You looked directly at your foster mom, raising an eyebrow.
For a moment, she stayed quiet. Then she sighed and locked eyes with you. “Y/N, I told her I’m not your mother. But before you get upset, that’s all I told her.”
Haruhi glanced at you and from one look she could tell you weren’t happy, your jaw tightened as you stared down the woman who spoke.
*ding dong*
You kept your eyes on her, refusing to look away. She huffed at your reaction and walked over, opening the door without even looking to see who it was first.
“Oh! It’s you!”
Your eyes narrowed as you walked further up, your breath catching in your throat once you saw him.
He adjusted his glasses and flashed a smile at her. “Hello Hinata, it’s nice to see you again.”
You breathed out in disbelief. “Kyoya?”

Your name: submit What is this?
The soft clicks of her heels hitting the marble floor as she walked around the desk to sit and face you was enough for you to feel a wave of anxiety hit you. She smiled with a bit of hesitance as she clasped her hands together. "How are you settling in, Miss Kitahara?" You tentatively rubbed the side of your arm as you shrugged. "So far, everything's been great." She gave a slight nod in response. "That's good." After a moment of silence, you rose an eyebrow at her. "Miss Headmaster, is there a reason you wanted to see me?" Her smile didn't falter and it only made you on edge when her eyes stayed on you for a few seconds more before she leaned forward. "From what I've heard from our students, you are a very talented chef. It seems they quite enjoy the food you prepare in the Host Club." At this point, you weren't as anxious as before and crossed your arms out of growing curiosity. "Is that a problem...?" Her eyes instantly widened. "Oh, no! Of course not. It's great! In fact..."
You soon noticed how shaky her hands were. She couldn't even meet your eyes. "Now, I am speaking for the school. Miss Kitahara, we have a problem that concerns you." $$$ The sigh that escaped your dry lips as you closed the door was slow as if your brain needed that time to process what had happened. You chewed on your bottom lip as you looked down in thought. Kyoya had spotted you enter the room and tilted his head at you from where he stood. "Y/N, could you come over here for a second?" You brought your gaze over to him and nodded before trailing in his direction. You kept your gaze to the floor when you reached him and he sighed heavily as he looked through his black book. "It's a good thing you're back, we were running out of snacks for the guests." You forced a smile toward him and turned away. "Of course sir, I'll get back to work now." His eyes noticed your hands folded together in your lap and he stopped flipping through the book instantly to slowly raise his head and watch you walk away to the kitchen. However, he straightened up when you turned around and looked at him. "Oh, and by the way, the headmistress has requested me to handle the food preparations for the banquet tomorrow. I won't be available to you tomorrow and I will have to leave early today, I hope you won't mind." He didn't say anything and you walked away, while his eyebrows scrunched together in slight confusion. "Hey Y/N, we've got a favor to ask you." You paused mid-walk and looked over at the twins who sat in two chairs across from each other. "Sure, what is it?" "You two are disgusting!" Your eyes widened when Tamaki suddenly ran over and pulled you away from the twins. "After posting something like that, you're going to ask for more pictures aren't you?" He turned you around and hugged you tightly. "Now don't you worry Y/N, I won't let them touch you. You don't need to give your body up for food money." You unwrapped his arms from you and patted his cheek. "Tamaki, I don't know what this is about, but if I wanted food, I'd go in the kitchen and make it anyway." He gasped and grabbed a hold of your shoulders again. "You mean you don't even know? About the pictures these two idiots posted on the club website?" Your eyes narrowed. "What pictures?" You were suddenly pulled out of Tamaki's grasp as two arms wrapped around your back. "Don't worry about it, sis. Boss is just overreacting about some photoshop we did." Tamaki stepped closer, pointing a menacing finger in Hikaru's face. "Posting naked pictures of our club chef is not overreacting!" The twins suddenly yelped in pain when you grabbed them both by the hair and moved them in front of you. "You did what?" Kaoru shrugged at you. "It's not like you can see anything. It's just photoshop, Y/N." You crossed your arms and glared down at them. "Yeah, but the students and faculty here do not know that. They think it's real, Kaoru! Do NOT do this again without my permission, got it?" They looked at each other from the corner of their eyes before nodding. You shook your head at them as they stood up. "Honestly, I don't get you two. Why would you even think of doing this--it's like you forget who I am here. How do you see me in those small brains of yours?" You narrowed your eyes at them when they looked at each other with a smirk. "Isn't that obvious?" They both looked at you with evil eyes. "You're our toy." You were taken back by their very straightforward response. Your shoulders dropped in disappointment. "Your toy? That's what I am to you." They laughed at your reaction and placed their arms around your shoulders. Hikaru rubbed the side of your cheek with his hand as if to change the subject. "Anyway, what we wanted to ask you is, the next time we get a day off--" Kaoru poked the side of your stomach as he gave you a smile. "--can we come over to your place to hang out with you and Haruhi?" Your eyes widened and you quickly stepped away from them as a blush formed on your cheeks. "W-Why would you wanna do that?" They stepped closer to you and looked at you with a playful gaze. "We're curious, we want to see where you live-" "No way in hell." They tilted their heads at your sharp tone that was directed at them. "Aww, come on, pretty please?" You turned away from them and picked up a nearby tray that had empty glasses on them. "I said no and I mean it. You guys are just gonna make fun of us." You felt them place their chins on your shoulders. "No matter how much we beg you?" From the corner of your vision, you could see Tamaki stepping closer to you with a playful smile on his lips. "I too have been thinking that it's about time I pay my respects to the families of our beloved Y/N and Haruhi-" "No way, Tamaki." His shoulders drooped as you walked by him but you didn't get far before the twins stepped in front of you which had forced you to stop. "We can handle this with a game. If you can't pick out which one of us is Hikaru, then your penalty will be the two of us coming to your house to see you and Haruhi later tonight." You rolled your eyes at them, silently questioning why they would even suggest that. "Seriously, guys?" They only shushed you in return as they spun around and placed identical hats on their heads before coming together again. "Okay. So which one is Hikaru?" You heavily sighed as you pointed at each of them. "Fine. This one's Kaoru, this one's Hikaru." You turned away from them to pick up more stray glasses as you heard them giggle. "Uh-oh! You got it wrong!" You held up a finger at them and turned around to walk away. "Don't even try that. It's like I said last time, it's silly to think of you as the same. You'd be surprised at how different you both are." You shook your head at their behavior but you didn't even see the subtle looks on their faces as they stared at your retreating figure. You were making a beeline to the kitchen door but a couple of girls had pulled you aside after witnessing your exchange with the twins. "Wow, how did you do that, Y/N?" "She's right. Whenever they wear those hats to cover up which way they part their hair, it's impossible to tell who's who." "Yeah, how can you tell them apart?" You smiled at them and rubbed your chin for a second. "Well, to put it into words...by the way that Hikaru speaks and acts, you can easily identify his mischievous personality." From behind you, Kaoru quickly slapped his hand over his mouth to cover his laugh but it still came out clear as day. You gave a little bow to the girls and nodded toward the kitchen. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I gotta get back to work." After they saw you disappear, Hikaru turned to glare at Kaoru who was still laughing. "I'm sorry Hikaru, I don't mean to laugh," He said in between giggles. Hikaru crossed his arms at him and held his chin up. "Well, I don't see what's so funny. I'm honest, I speak my mind and I don't hold back." He turned his sight to the direction of the kitchen and lightly scoffed. "She doesn't know what she's talking about. It's sneaky people like Kaoru who are the troublemakers." Kaoru instantly stopped laughing and turned Hikaru around to face him. "Don't turn this on me, Hikaru. After all, I'm the one who's always going along with all of your selfish games." Hikaru shrugged Kaoru's hand off his shoulder. "I may suggest them, but you're the one who really gets into them, Kaoru. If you hate it so much, then stop being a part of them." Kaoru smirked a little as he stepped forward into Hikaru's face. "Because I'd hate to see you make an ass of yourself in front of everyone. Especially to a certain someone who you seem to have a weird fantasy obsession of." A small gasp came from Hikaru as he looked at his brother, silently begging him to stop. A few customers were beginning to turn their attention toward them, even Kyoya and Mori looked over. Kaoru rose an eyebrow at him as if saying 'what are you gonna do about it?'. "Wasn't it you who started this whole 'brother-sister' roleplay? Since day one, you wouldn't shut up about her and it was your idea to call her our toy." Kaoru poked him harshly in the chest which forced him backward. "Just admit it already Hikaru, that for all these years you've actually been in love with Y/N, isn't that right?" Tamaki shot up from his seat once he heard what Kaoru said, catching the attention of everyone else in the room. "What?!" Panic arose in Hikaru as he saw the looks everyone was giving him. He narrowed his eyes at Kaoru and laughed harshly. "You've got it all wrong, Kaoru. Man, you're such a freaking idiot. Why would I fall for her? I mean, with those clothes, she looks like a frump." "A frump, eh?" All heads turned to the person near the back of the room. Kaoru's face instantly fell once he saw you. "Y/N..? When did..." Hikaru's eyes went wide at the cold way yours looked at him. You gave him a tight-lipped smile and chuckled a little as you lay against the doorway. "Heh, that's really funny, Hikaru. I didn't know your mind comprehended words like that." Hikaru stepped forward, shaking his head. "Y/N, wait. Butterfly, I didn't mean to say--" You immediately held up your hand to stop him from talking. "Please, don't. Honestly, it doesn't even matter if you have the same face because there's no way I would even be interested in either of you. Because as far as I'm concerned, one of you acts like a sad, lost puppy and the other is just too damn annoying." Kaoru tried to come closer too, but he froze when you slammed the tray on a table and the whole room went silent. Tamaki glanced at Kyoya and nodded at him to intervene but Kyoya stayed where he was and only watched you. You took a deep breath before straightening up and turning toward Kyoya. "I have much to do for tomorrow's preparations. May I excuse myself, sir?" Kyoya looked to the floor and answered instantly. "Come in early tomorrow, I'll have a driver drop off the key to you." You bowed to him, then turned and walked away. Everyone watched in heavy silence until you left. Haruhi walked up to the twins, shaking her head at them. "You two are really something, you know that?" Hikaru shrugged his shoulders at her. "What?" Haruhi couldn't help but groan at them as she turned away. 'Oh man. Y/N, are you okay?'
