Well on the GOT theme now that we're here... you've written before about how the Black family fascinates you. Are there families or houses in the GOT universe that pique your interest and curiosity in that way? What are your head canons about them?
NOW THAT WE'RE HERE... such a tasty question. The for real answer is that I am Starkpilled forever. Ned Stark worst politician of all time they could never make me hate you. Rob Stark you hot dumb bonnie prince charlie clone they could never make me hate you. Catelyn Stark you gorgeous vengeful bitch they could NEVER make me hate you. Jon Arya Sansa Bran and their feral kindergartener baby brother. Theon Greyjoy somehow serving levels of stepbrother never seen before in a family with a literal bastard stepbrother in it. A boring Stark? Never heard of one. All of them are insane deranged crazy intense weirdos who believe that They are the only Normal One in this crazy-ass family. And they all are kind of right but mostly wrong! The Targaryens are the sexy dragonrider house with a million cool names and dynastic squabbles and that would usually be my jam but. BUT. God damn do I love fucking weirdos. God damn do I love some brunette bitches in fur capes.
The more serious answer is that I think the Starks are one of the best families because not only are all of their characters individually developed and rich, but their family as such also has a really clear identity, which in turn informs how each of the members sees themselves. The Starks are often hinted to have a similar magic/spiritual connection to the earth that the Targaryens do, but because it's not as flashy, they aren't recognized as such by anyone. The children's pseudo-psychic bonds with their direwolves are the first kind of creature "magic" that we see in the story, long before Daenerys's dragons or any dragons are introduced, and I think the parallel is intentional. They're one of the oldest dynasties in Westeros. They're far older than any of the Valyrian houses; they've held Winterfell for so long that living memory doesn't even account for the full history of the castle. They built the Wall! They're a family of greenseers and wargs, children with mystical powers of sight and perception! And they're tied into the history of the land. They're mystical and ancient and old and powerful, and their stories all take the shape of myths. Which is such a fucking cool idea for a curse, right? Because like, what if your family curse was that you were destined to be the heroes of the story, every time? No matter what it cost you, what it did to you, what it asked of you? When the world calls, it's you, Stark, against the slings and arrows of fate. And it bequeaths to you the magic gifts that you need to perform that duty, because it is your possession of those gifts that make you the only ones who can. What kind of a tragedy would that be?
The serious and non-textual answer is that the North is to some extent modeled off the Highland clans — that is, a bunch of really proud, distinguished houses that all predate the unification of empire and maintain their distinct identities subsequent to that unification, and live in an ice-cold highland climate with mountains and rivers and lots of mythology and folklore about magical creatures and ghosts that is basically like the highlands and like okay the North is Scotland, okay, if you've never been to Scotland you just need to trust me on this but it's Scotland, it's fantasy Scotland. Which rules. Because Scotland is fucking awesome, firstly. And secondly, I love that Scottish house is the one house that keeps its shit together and hangs on for hundreds of years while all the bitches down south try to kill each other every 50. I love that the North is its own place, and it's still a little wild and mystical and it scares off everyone who's not from it, but the Stark children all know it and love it and so to them that wilderness feels like coming home. That's my pitch for House Stark.

Miscellaneous Jonmund AUs
(Aside from the classic biker Tormund), because I love AUs:
- Camp counselors shenanigans! Their cabins started prank wars, Tormund is into it as much as the kid. They have a rope course and due to some kind of malfunction Jon gets stuck, Tormund has to help him. Tormund won't stop talking about how he can fist fight a bear because he's actually part bear (Jon is all *eye roll* about it and then Tormund starts a rumor that he's a werewolf). Tormund's canoe upturns and Jon drags him out of the water. Jon plays the guitar around the fire and Tormund breaks out in a song and his voice is actually good?? Jon and the kids join in.
- Jon is a Marine Biologist (or studying to become one) and either Tormund is a fisherman or him and all the Wildlings are an enviromental group and they meet when Jon moves and tries to get acquainted with the place and the people. Tormund immediately wants to show him around.
- Jon is the fencing instructor of one of Tormund's daughters. Usually his ex-wife picks them up but his work hours recently changed and now he's free to pick them up once in a while. He's very enthusiast about it and is always asking questions about his daughter's progress directly to Jon because he wants to catch up and then "oh no the fencing instructor is mad cute". Also a competition comes up and Jon's there both for his kids and for Arya and Tormund's like "I'm fucked" when he sees Jon getting all fired up over her.
- Jon and a couple other Starks work in their family owned bakery and Tormund comes by often and always buys their cutest looking muffins and cupcakes and sometimes eats them there with some of his friends and always picks even the tiniest sweet delicately between his fingers and carefully eats it (and he usually just tears through foods). He also makes a lot of compliments and most of those sweets are made or decorated by Jon who always stays on the kitchen because he feels awkward around clients but sometimes pokes his head out to mumble a thanks at Tormund. And then they end up meeting through their mutual friend Ygritte at a bar or something and Jon almost flees.
- Jon movies into a tiny town to recover after [some kind of bad event that left his face scarred and hand burned] and to work on the book he's writing. He's usually very withdrawn and moved just a little outside the town so he actually barely speaks with anyone the first few months. But Tormund works in the place Jon visits the most often and they strike conversation there. He's a handful but Jon slowly warms up to both him and the rest of the town.
- They go to the same half desert gym late in the evening and sometime spot for each other or chat on their way out. Then Tornund starts to get flirty.
- They volunteer at the same animal shelter and Tormund is so gente with all the puppies and kittens and Jon dies a little when he coos at them.
- Tormund has to work in a library because community service and spends most of his time shelving books, making inventory, mending books and going through donations with Jon, who works in the library.
- The Wildlings are all part of a farming Community. The Starks have had a rough bunch of years both indivually and as a family and end up buying a plot of land to the Wildlings and move there (+Theon, Hodor, Jojeen, Osha, Gendry and Margaery all eventually add themsleves to the Group). The Wildlings help them out a lot and especially Ygritte and Tormund end up being around a lot.
- Jon is backpacking across Europe/Modern!Westeros and meets Tormund who's doing the same thing. And they start traveling together.
(Also Ghost is present in all these AUs and Tormund absolutely fawns over him).

Little bit of an update on my current Game Of Thrones fanfiction front:
I know I have yet to post on my wattpad this week in the GoT Oneshots. This is for a few reasons.
1. I alternate my posting, and have yet to have a designated schedule for my GoT book (for that matter, admittedly I need to get myself organized on a schedule for Supernatural and Pokemon as well - I've been relatively sporatic).
2. I have about 5 ideas in the works currently (Sandor Clegane, Ned Stark, Bronn, Jorah Mormont, and Jamie Lannister). I have two of those that are near completion, and I'm going to make it a surprise once they are posted.
3. I currently have a full fanfiction book in the works for Little Fingers x Reader (planning on keeping that under wraps until I actually have the (first?) book completed. As usual, pushing for at least 11 or so chapters. If I can manage to get that completed before August 1st, I'll be entering that one in the 2019 wattys as well.
4. I work my schedule around working from home and my little. Occasionally I do get the opportunity to create oneshots and fanfictions while she's up and about, but it does also prove to be difficult at times.
I appreciate all of those that are enjoying my fanfictions, be it GoT, Supernatural, Pokemon, Adventure Time, Rick and Morty, etc.

Do you have any OTP ASOIAF ships? I'm definitely a Sansan fan based on the books and the heavy beauty and the beast symbolism (the fantasy kiss she invented is so... interesting)... I definitely think he's the gravedigger and will eventually prove himself to be the "true knight" she's been waiting for (though I do acknowledge that the age difference is wild irl... but in the context of Westeros... not as insane as it could be). I also have hopes for Gendrya...
Team Jaime/Brienne forever. I'm so giddy that they're back together by the end of Dance and about to get front-row seats to the Lady Stoneheart plot line. It's one of the rare matches in ASOIAF where they both do make each other better and bring something good to each other's lives. Jaime gives Brienne the validation and friendship of an equal she's never known as someone outside the gender/class hierarchy, and she rekindles his faith in the concept of goodness and knighthood as ideals. I love a POV/POV romance because you get both sides of the arc and it's beautiful.
Along those lines, I thought Tyrion and Sansa in the show was cute because (a) Peter Dinklage could charm water from stone and plays show!Tyrion as much more respectful/honorable than book!Tyrion, and (b) Sansa is aged up in the show, and even though we're told she's like 14, she's being played by a 17/18 y/o actress who is much more capable of holding her own in scenes with adults. I do not think it would work as a relationship because Tyrion has a terrible track record with treating women badly and Sansa at that point is basically just a traumatized child trying to get home, but I like the quasi-friendship they develop, and if the war had ended after Joffrey's death I could see them eventually having like a Ned/Cat thing. Gendry and Arya would also be sweet, tough as-is because Arya is still so very young in the books, but I could see them being cute together later on if they meet again as teenagers.

…in the vein of GoT and ASOIAF, I would love to pick your brain on House of the Dragon (if you’ve seen it / read F&B!) and more specifically, your thoughts on the most recent season + retcons / changes they’re doing.
Loved reading your most recent ask btw it made me want to read the entire series (sadly I’ve only watched).
Okay I think the problem with HOTD is that while they're clearly leaning into the "maesters are biased, all history is constructed" motif in FAB, they're losing track of the changes they're making, and hence failing to keep the characters consistent. Making Alicent and Rhaenyra into embittered former lovers (textually or subtextually) is a cool choice, but they don't commit to exploring that idea! because the second half of season 1 is about the collapse of their relationship and their transformation into incredibly violent, resentful enemies (alicent tries to attack rhaenyra with a dagger? tries to deny her children the right to inherit driftmark? usurps rhaenyra, invokes a law that denies ALL women the right to rule, and sends aemond to kill luke (for all rhaenyra knows!) and just when you think you're finally going to see some good REAL nasty vicious lovers-to-enemies arc, rhaenyra is like "hang on. i gotta see if i can still smash" and does SeptHeist2024. and alicent then says NOTHING about this to any guards and just fucking. lets her go??? and then by the end, the woman who tried to carve out rhaenyra's eye with a KNIFE in front of the fucking KING and FULL COURT to avenge her son — rhaenyra tells THAT woman, to her face, that she's going to kill that woman's firstborn son, and that woman SHRUGS? because — what, she wants to go fucking wildlife camping?
in general, s2 feels like they've reverted these characters to people who can have the scenes that the showrunners want to write. all the juicy rhaenicent resentment and fury and thwarted yearning is boiled down into some milquetoast refrain of "i miss you :( war is hard :(" and a bunch of empty parallelism that doesn't make SENSE because these characters are not offered the same choices! the ONLY thing that was interesting to me in s2 is that they seem to be prepping for the rhaenyra messiah-complex arc (cf. the scene where she tells the dragon-keepers to fuck off and watches vermithor roast about 50 peasants with a stone cold straight face.) her relationship with daemon is way more nasty and dynamic and CONSISTENT than her relationship with alicent because i think they're balking and reluctant to let rhaenicent be as nasty and spiteful and jealous as daemyra is! but like! that's the POINT! none of these people are good or virtuous and their relationships are all terminally fucked by the weight of the duties levied on their shoulders! it's the cycle of violence! let them perform cyclical violence to each other!!
anyway it's like. i think the show has a lot of promise. i STILL am hype for s3 because i think this could be mid-stage growing pains and you can still correct a lot of these wobbles in the next season. pros: good cinematography, GREAT dragon cgi, that way aegon does a spring-jump and vaults over the horse when he's riding to vhagar is fucking awesome. cons: too many scenes of alicent looking sad, not enough scenes of alicent being vengeful or resentful as is established for her character. too many scenes of daemon tripping balls. also not enough scenes of baela and rhaena having character or relationships. also not enough simon strong dripped out within an inch of his life and being unrealistically mouthy to the queen's husband. never enough of that.

v much agree w this guy, the main thing that I clocked as being weird w the shavepate was the torture thing. Like. martin has made a point of showing torture as ineffective the entire books so it did seem strange that in this One instance it would just work
