It helped us get more insight into Louis's thoughts, like the Armand/painting scene or the Claudia/Louis one in episode 1. Your argument also isn't valid because "Dreamstad took way too much screen time" is not true. He appeared in at most three scenes in an episodes full of Louis, Armand, and Claudia. If you got annoyed by him, then that's a you problem.
