I have been told explicitly multiple times this year by electoral board officials to ONLY register and/verify my registration in a federal/state facility (post office or dmv for example) or in person at the polls because of how often people are getting "scammed" during their registration process, many of whom are then shocked to learn at the polls that they neveractually GOT registered.

This doesn't mean you should distrust voter registration opportunities!
