Duck Comic Reading Club Week 24: Paperinik New Adventures: Mekkano

Once again, is comic review time.

This time, the Evronians are not the enemies. How so? Let's see.

This issue started presenting Gorthan, a lonely Evronian, who has technical difficulties and crash his ship into Duckburg dessert.

Meanwhile, a jerk businessman and a scientist present a drone to a bunch of army men. The presentation is a failure, but before anyone could left, a high tech flying machine appear and get everyone attention.

But we know that's PK's ship. The hero is on his way to get Gorthan, because when there's trouble you call PK.

The Evronian attacked PK from behind, and it looked like he had the upperhand. Sadly for his interest, he fainted to the injuries of his crash.

PK can't leave Gorthan behind, so, he took him into his ship and to the base. There's an joke that made me laugh, when the jerk told the army men that the ship "will come back", and the guys just stand there waiting for it.

Ok, so, I mentioned the scientist. The guy found the crashed ship and stole an energy tank. He's gonna used it in his newest invention.

What the hell is that?

How many weapons you want on this? Yes.

This is, so far, the worst looking mech in the series. And he acts like is the greatest invention ever. Even the jerk wants to steal the machine.

Back to what's important. Gorthan is an evolved Evronian, since he has feelings. Imagine that, having feelings; what a loser. Other Evronians didn't take that well, and now Gorthan is an outcast.

But having feelings isn't the worst thing happening to Gorthan right now. With his energy tank stolen, he's in a one way ticket to meet St. Peter.

PK is going to help him because, hero and what not.

But remember, the ugly mech has the energy tank, and it gave it life. Yeah, that things is kinda alive now, and goes by Mekkano.

And since they decided to give Mekkano all the weapons, he's shooting his way out.

I'm gonna be honest with you, I like Gorthan, I like the idea of a Evronian who has gain the ability of feeling, and had to leave his planet because of that. Also, PK teaming up with an enemy, that works.

But everything about Mekkano and all the characters around, I don't care. The scientist and the jerk are specially unlikeable to me.

Anyway, PK and Gorthan found Mekkano, fought with the machine, and then…

That's right, Gorthan loves PK, and who can blame him?

Mekkano, who's obviously homophobic, took Gorthan and launched itself to the space.

I have no idea why.

Really, is like, Mekkano said, oh no, I not staying in this planet, and I'm not letting you live a good life.

To make things worse, Gorthan was captured by the Evronians. He would probably be executed for his crimes. The crime of loving. Kill him with fire.

Donald reflects on what Gorthan could have done, and didn't. Maybe he can trust him the next time. Sadly, Gorthan is probably dead by now.

And those idiots are still waiting for the ship.

That's funny.

Gorthan has such a huge boner for The Duck Avenger, that he too imagines him in purple, in sexy pose on a throne, and leading the Evronian army.

A Better Life

Imagine Gothi taking baby Sips and raising him in order to ensure that her closest friend has a good life this time.

Imagine the stumbling lost princess trying to balance foreclaimer stuff and trying to be a "normal" parent for Sips, which is both something that Sips doesn't necessarily need and something she's incapable of supplying.

Imagine Sneeze going from being the little brother to the big brother overnight, and trying to "toughen up" to keep his friend safe and happy.

Imagine the other party members coming over to visit baby Sips. Erina is a loving aunt-like figure. Gorthan is a goofy uncle. Julian just makes sure Sips doesn't get himself into trouble and die. Jack avoids him because Sips keeps biting him.

Imagine Gothi meets Vicky and has to "introduce" her to Sips, and she doesn't quite get it because she's so young and the monkey she knew before had a crocodile hand and had much more of an edge and he didn't shrink THAT much, did he? But she still loves him regardless.

Imagine Gothi missing her old friend while he sits RIGHT THERE in front of her, a helpless toddler, different and yet the same.

Imagine Sips starts to catch on that he's different, and not just because he's a monkey. His family talk about him like they know more than they reasonably should, and they also say things about him that he KNOWS aren't true. He catches them telling stories about him that he definitely doesn't remember, sighing wistfully. He has nightmares filled with scales and hands and hearts and crystals that he doesn't fully understand but that feel so REAL.

Imagine how lost Sips would feel when Gothi and the others finally tell him that this isn't the first time he's lived this life, nor is it the first time they've lived a life together. How confusing it would be to see the others talk about him like an old friend and a young child at the same time. How hurt he may feel that almost nobody important to him actually came to love him in this life, the life he can remember, the life he identifies himself by.

Imagine Sips slowly gains his memories of his old life back. They're fuzzy and lack detail, but he remembers. He remembers the love and time he shared with his fam- his friends. And he remembers the hardships. The beheadings. The loss of control. He remembers bantering with someone he views as his mother like they were- well, not parent and child. He remembers the pain he felt, and the pain he caused. He remembers, and the trauma starts to affect his life again because oh god HE REMEMBERS. But he's not on the run anymore. He's not cursed. And his frien- his family can look out for him.

Imagine Sips grows up. Some of his friends grow older with him, some don't. Gothi doesn't, and eventually they reach a similar "age." Gothi is thrilled because this is what she WANTED. She wanted her friend back, the one who she danced and fought and bickered and bantered with. She wanted her friend to have a better life, and he HAS one. But everything's not the same, because Sips is just as much a baby monkey she raised as he is her old friend. And they both get confused by this, and for a while they stumble through their dynamic. But eventually they reach stability. Something unfamiliar, but not different.

Imagine that everything isn't perfect and nothing's the same, but Sips gets a chance to live his life, without curses or gods screwing it up for him, with the people he loves so much.

malva does some stuff including shooting at lyla and pk which i mostly ignore because im not good at looking at shapes. somehow they end up in the long ago year of Ye Olde 1878. you can tell it's 1878 because there is a chinese man there whose name is chan, presumably Benjamin Franklin Chang (chang eats the sun and drinks the skies and they both go with him when he dies)

here's what im fully imagining: pk and vlad are complaining but have some sort of camaraderie where they work together and bond like Gorthan-Lite. malva and lyla are fully clawing each other's eyes out trying to bite out throats etc the entire time theyre in the same time period
