The fact no one has (to my knowledge) written a post Phantom Liberty ending fic where V takes Reed's offer up, wakes up 2+ years later completely fucked over and has to learn how to live their life as a normie. Only to get their asses dragged out of the gutter by a pissed of Goro Takemura, who happens to have the perfect mixture of compassion and lack of pity for V's wallowing and then proceeds to spend however many thousands of words needed to kick their head back on straight and realize their life isn't over, it's just a new path they are now walking....

Is a GOD DAMN CRIME.

I've seen so many really good Devil ending AU's but fuck if anyone is gonna understand what post Phantom Liberty V is going through, it's Takemura.

BABE THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT. Cyberpunk, even as a tabletop game, revolved around the fact that there is ALWAYS something going on that you don't know about. The whole point of the series is that YOU CAN'T WIN. You, no matter how reknown you become, will be an insignificant cog in the big machinery that is night city, and you will die that way. The entire point is that there's no satisfying way to end it. There is no "good" or "happy" ending because THE WHOLE POINT OF THE SERIES IS HOW FUTILE TRYING TO BEAT THE SYSTEM IS. The most compelling thing about the series is that no matter what choices you make, you lose, and you've got to grapple with that to get to the ending that you consider the best possible outcome, and even then, you won't be happy.

There are no happy endings in Night City.
