Short answer: he just would. Cartoon logic.

Long answer: I had this semi-serious conspiracy theory that Dazai wasn't actually drinking in Bar Lupin. Because Dark Era had him eat canned crab, but only play with his glass, while Oda was described drinking from his own. But then The Day I Picked Up Dazai was more direct in implying Dazai does drink. So my conspiracy falls a little flat.

I’m still unconvinced that he was actually drinking alcohol.
