Finding the Best Schools in Chennai for Your Child’s Success
Chennai is home to a wide array of schools that cater to the diverse needs and preferences of families seeking quality education. From traditional academic environments to modern, experiential learning approaches, the city has institutions that focus on comprehensive student development. Many schools in Chennai emphasize not only academic achievement
But also the development of critical thinking, creativity, and social skills, making the educational experience well-rounded. When it comes to specific curriculums, ICSE schools in Chennai are a popular choice for parents who want a balanced educational approach. ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education) is well-regarded for its emphasis on analytical skills, language proficiency, and a broad-based curriculum that includes humanities, sciences, and arts.
This curriculum is ideal for students who want an education that promotes not only knowledge acquisition but also personal development, problem-solving, and communication skills.Alternatively, CBSE schools in Chennai follow the national CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) curriculum, which is known for its consistency and focus on science and mathematics. The CBSE curriculum is structured to prepare students for competitive exams, making it a preferred choice for families with a focus on academic rigor and a national-level education standard. With an emphasis on practical applications and conceptual understanding, CBSE schools provide a solid foundation for students aiming for careers in fields like engineering, medicine, and research.
The right school for each child depends on their unique learning style, strengths, and future goals. While some students may thrive in an ICSE environment that encourages creativity and a broad skill set, others may excel in a CBSE curriculum that focuses on structured learning and exam preparation. Fortunately, Chennai’s educational landscape is varied and offers plenty of choices to meet diverse needs. For families exploring options, it’s helpful to visit and research schools in Chennai, assessing each institution’s curriculum, faculty, infrastructure, and overall learning environment. Ultimately, finding the right fit can make a significant difference in a child’s educational journey and future success.

...some more desi!jon and martin hcs? for the soul?
Hello!!! Sorry for taking so long to answer, I needed to get into the right headspace lol
You know how it's a desi custom to like feed each other cake on birthdays? You do it with your loved ones especially so I'm imagining it's Jon's birthday and Tim insists on feeding him cake and he begrudgingly agrees then suddenly everyones feeding him cake and laughing and feeding everyone else and Martin really shouldn't feel like it's so intimate (indirect kisses as such) but it's a bonding moment for the whole archives crew
Jon is like insanely good at rangoli patterns, his grandma put him to work every festival season and it kept his hands busy for hours on end, building spiral patterns with vibrant powders. He lost some of it over the years, but in the Scottish Safehouse, he makes smaller patterns across the entrance almost as a sigil against everything they were being hunted by
Martin has a pretty good Bengali accent and is fluent, his mum refused to speak anything other than Bangla so he's kept it up all these years and gotten quite good at it to the point where he's sometimes mistaken for a native speaker
Jon has an atrocious accent and can just about get by in Hindi, he had been sat down by his grandma to try and teach him a couple of times over his childhood but he never could concentrate for long enough, his grandma shouted too much for his liking and he was a gifted kid so if he didn't get it immediately, he wouldn't do it at all
Jon's favourite Bollywood actor is Irrfan Khan cause he thinks he's super impactful and he loved him in Piku (but he grew up watching mostly old black and white Bangla movies directed by satyajit Roy like Pather Panchali)
Martin's favourite has to be SRK cause he's a classic and he grew up watching him and whenever he's sad he watches Kuch Kuch Hota Hai or Chennai Express
They both adore 3 Idiots though, like they were both screwed over by the education system in different ways (Martin struggled with juggling school and caring for his mum so he ended up dropping out, Jon and his burned out gifted kid vibes), they understand the pressure to get a certain level of educated and a certain type of profession (they would've gotten it from judgemental relatives lol like you couldve used your intelligence to become an engineer and instead you work for a falthu place) and they definitely understand the mental health issues and the friendship between the guys reminds them of their own friendships over the years
Also that song "give me some sunshine, give me some rain" like one day Martin's humming it and Jon's like is that???? and then Martin starts singing it and they do a little duet (martin was classically trained in rabindra Sangeet so he has a smooth velvety voice and jons is decent) and then it can become a super angsty call back in MAG 200
That's all I got!! Thanks for the ask!!

Yesterday was the celebration of a 100 years of Good Shepherd Convent-the only school I ever studied in- from Kindergarten until Higher Secondary. And this is how I was dressed. The reactions made me write this story.
Good Shepherd gave us many memories. But particularly the uniform. The white frock and red tie was a classic and was the envy of almost all school going girls in Chennai at that point. When we entered Class 7 our uniform changed to something that we didn’t particularly enjoy - though our new uniform was practical we sorely missed the white and red. Since then this uniform has been in the minds of many.
I was in the post partum phase this year and was always looking online for clothes and goodies for my new born. Combine that with emotions running high and low , I suddenly thought of wearing my old school uniform just for myself. Imagining myself in that white frock and red tie gave me a boost of much needed energy - amidst tiresome days and sleepless nights.
That’s when I bought all the necessities - the red tie, the white canvas shoes and the white socks. Now when I had all this, there was the announcement of the Legacy Gala that was to happen on August 10 - to mark a 100 years of Good Shepherd.
My initial thoughts were around whether I would be able to attend, whether I would have help at hand for the baby to be able to attend etc. And did not plan ahead at all.
The beginning of this week, by Good Shepherd’s grace I had adequate help at home - and actually thought why not wear the uniform? Many mixed feelings arose- oh am too old to be sporting a school girl uniform… it would not fit well… and the likes. But I decided that if I was attending this event it would be in this uniform !
That’s because this uniform was a recurrent image in my dreams since childhood. I never got the chance to wear it after 11 years of age - as an adult I have not worn it at all. And somehow I felt I should follow my instincts. I was going to wear it anyway for myself so why not wear it irrespective of whether it was acknowledged or not?
So I did wear it and what emotions it triggered in this meeting!! How many alumni from so many batches came to me and took pictures of that uniform and with me! It was overwhelming to say the least. I understood the nostalgia it evoked in each one of them - it was evident they all had emotions running high for that splendid Good Shepherd uniform of the past.
So many ladies from all age groups, those who were old enough to be my mom or aunt took the chance to appreciate it with all sincerity and the icing on the cake was when the school asked me to get on to the stage to showcase the uniform- where my own illustrious classmate Anu Menon was MC !!
And a gentleman alumnus when I was getting off stage smilingly said “ you are showing off” and chuckled!
The uniform evoked a lot of happiness, amusement , nostalgia and without doubt a bit of scorn from a select few. Some “ girlies “raised eyebrows thinking that I was showing off, that I had guts to show off, that I wore all that in public transport… and the snidest was “ Oh you didn’t grow out of your uniform? “ 🤣
Ladies, Good Shepherd was my home. It’s a place so close to my heart I cannot even begin to tell how close. That uniform is my armour. When I wore it yesterday I had a spurt of courage to take on the world and to do well all that I do. Which is exactly what I did , not to show off but to follow my heart. And the world reciprocated! So yes, in that way, I am never going to grow out of my white uniform with my red tie AND badge :)

For the top 3 ask game - any of these? Throwing out a bunch in case of duplicates:
33, 45, 54, and/or 57?
You're the only one to send an ask so far, so I'll tackle them all!
33. Top 3 things you’d buy if you gained three million dollars
Okay, this is selfish and I don't know if it counts as buying something, but I would have just every medical test done. Like, I occasionally fantasize about being able to just...I don't know, be put in a coma for like a week or something while every specialist that exists runs every test that makes sense to run so they can figure out what the hell is wrong with my body. I understand that what I'm describing is basically a medical version of the plot of Severance, and that's super messed up, but also, I am tired of medical testing and I want answers.
Also, one of my besties has a whole gaggle of kids and a very small house and they need more space, so if I could just give them a house or something? That'd be rad.
And...paying for a literary agent? I'm still playing very loosey-goosey here with the definition of "buy", but since I would love to just write for a living and having three million dollars at my disposal would mean I could maybe just do that without worrying about traditional work, hiring an agent for the novels I haven't quite finished would be cool.
45. Top 3 things you hope to accomplish in college
Literally just graduate at this point. I don't care about my GPA. I don't care about making connections with anyone. It's an online school, I'm 36, and I'm majoring in the job I've had for half a decade. I want to graduate so I can go, "More money, please!" and get paid a higher rate than I currently am doing the exact same work all because I now have a piece of paper saying I'm good at school.
I have a very cynical view of the level of importance our society places on higher education for careers that do not require it can you tell.
54. Top 3 types of foreign food
I'm...kind of going broad here and just listing varieties, not specific dishes?
Thai
Indian (I know India is huge and I could get into regions, I guess, but I've never had an Indian dish -- whether it was while I was in Chennai or stateside -- that I haven't liked)
Mexican (like...Mexican...not so much Tex-Mex. It has its place, but...Mexican)
57. Top 3 cheesy romance movies
The Holiday
The Princess Bride
To All the Boys I've Loved Before
Top 3!

Top Schools in India: Where Brilliance Meets Books
India is home to a treasure trove of schools that blend academics, extracurricular activities, and memories you'll laugh about later. Parents and students alike often face the daunting task of choosing the perfect school from innumerable options across the country. Worry not; we have got this! Whether it is a traditional powerhouse or something quirky and modern, our roundup of the top schools in India has you grinning from ear to ear.
What Makes a School "Top"?
Tumblr media
Let's first discuss the magic ingredients that make a school top-notch, shall we, before we begin listing names?
Academic Brilliance: A good school isn't just about topping the exams (though it helps.). It's making you fall in love with learning—well, almost. Sports and Arts: Not everyone's born to solve algebra equations. Some are naturally adept at scoring goals or painting masterpieces. Infrastructure: Spacious classrooms, sprawling grounds, and possibly a library that is an absolute nook to doze off (oops, we meant read). A Lighthearted But Controlled Ambiance: The ideal school understands how and when to get the rules through-and-also know how and when to roll with your really lame jokes.
Top Schools in India
Dynamos of Delhi: Delhi Public School (DPS) DPS needs no introduction. With branches across the nation, it's like the superhero of schools. Famous for balancing academics and extracurriculars like a circus juggler, DPS makes sure students leave with both high grades and great memories.
South Indian Gems: Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Chennai Want discipline served with a side of inspiration? Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Chennai focuses on spiritual development along with academics. Plus, its annual cultural festivals are so good, even outsiders want to sneak in.
The Royals of Rajasthan : Mayo College, Ajmer Want an expensive boarding school that feels royal? Mayo College is your chance. It's one of the finest hostel schools in Gwalior's region, with some old-world appeal in modern education. You might get a feeling if you are going to a class or a drama shooting of old history.
Star Shining Glamour of Gwalior Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya(SKV)
SKV is located in Gwalior and is the answer for parents looking for a top CBSE school in Gwalior with excellent hostel facilities. It is known for developing leadership qualities in young women, and it is a school where confidence grows faster than you can say "math homework."
The Iconic Scindia School
If SKV is for girls, The Scindia School is where boys get groomed into gentlemen. Perched on Gwalior's iconic fort, this school has history in its bones and innovation in its soul. They mix learning with adventure, and let's just say that students never forget the view—or the lessons.
Why Schools in Gwalior Shine Bright
Gwalior is not a metro city, but the schools are big-time. It marries academic seriousness with hostel life that teaches a child independence and, maybe, how to sneak midnight snacks without getting caught. Schools here produce achievers, as exemplified by SKV and The Scindia School, which help their wards score both in academics and life.
Conclusion: Selecting the Best
So, how do you pick? Focus on what matters to you—whether it's academics, extracurriculars, or the vibe of the school. From the heritage-rich Scindia institutions to the culturally vibrant Mayo College, India's top schools are ready to shape your future (and maybe throw in a life lesson about why procrastinating is bad).
The trip is just as significant as the destination, as they say. And if that journey happens to include a beautiful hostel school in Gwalior with top-class facilities, then you are very lucky! The right school does not teach subjects but helps in writing the story of your life.

Small Story 119.
Small Story 119 Senthil's Reunion: A Vacation of Peace
Senthil arrived at the Karaikudi bus station, where his old friend Karthik greeted him warmly and took him to his car. They had both studied together at IIT Chennai but had since moved to different parts of the world for their careers—Senthil to Singapore and Karthik to Australia. Both were originally from Madurai. Karthik’s wife’s family hailed from Karaikudi, and they were there on vacation—Senthil had come from Madurai to visit.
As they chatted about their college days, Senthil handed a large packet of gifts to Karthik’s son, Venu, who was in the 12th grade. "Thank you, Uncle," whispered Venu, a tall, handsome boy, and a talented cricketer with several medals to his name. "Venu, you should open it and see inside," said Senthil. Venu eagerly opened the gift to find a beautiful shirt with a cricket bat monogram. "Lovely! I like this," he said, clearly pleased by the thoughtful gift, especially since he was an avid batsman.
Karthik’s wife, Valliammai, asked with curiosity, "Anna, why didn’t you bring Lalitha with you?"
"She had to attend a wedding in Alwar Thirunagari," Karthik replied. "One of her classmate's brother’s wedding. It's a famous Srivaishnava sthalam."
After a delicious Chettinad lunch, the friends rested for a while. Later, over tea, Karthik, with a mischievous twinkle in his eye, said, "I’m going to take you to a place that will shock you."
Senthil, intrigued, asked, "Where, man?"
"Wait and see," Karthik replied, as he stopped in front of a grand house. He parked the car and led Senthil inside. When Karthik rang the doorbell, a young boy of about sixteen answered and greeted Karthik with warmth.
"Mummy, Karthik Uncle has come!" he called out.
A sweet voice from inside responded, "I’m coming," and soon, a beautiful lady appeared. Senthil was stunned. "How is Nandhini here in Karaikudi?" he thought.
Nandhini, equally surprised to see him, gasped. They had both attended the same school in Madurai, and Senthil had harbored a crush on her from a young age. She, too, had feelings for him. However, Nandhini’s father, a textile engineer at Madura Coats, had not approved of her marrying Senthil. After that, Senthil had left Madurai to attend IIT, and they lost touch when Nandhini's phone was switched off. Focused on his studies, he excelled and landed a lucrative job offer in Singapore.
Nandhini smiled warmly and said, "It’s so good to see you after so many years, Senthil. My dad arranged for me to marry a textile engineer from Karaikudi, a man with a wealthy background. It wasn’t my choice, though. Two years ago, my husband had a massive heart attack and passed away."
Senthil realized, in that moment, that life’s decisions were sometimes out of one’s hands. No matter what we choose, ultimate control lies elsewhere.
"By the way, what’s your son’s name?" Senthil asked, his curiosity piqued.
"His name is Senthil," she replied. "I felt blessed to give him that name because it was my late father-in-law’s name, too."
Hearing that name, Senthil realized that, in a way, he had always been a part of Nandhini’s life. Though their paths had diverged, fate had ensured that a part of him remained with her.
Senthil’s vacation in Karaikudi not only allowed him to reconnect with old friends but also gave him the peace and closure he had been seeking. In rediscovering old bonds and reflecting on lost relationships, he found a sense of inner satisfaction and a newfound acceptance of the way things had turned out.
