In Ultra Galaxy Fight: the Destined Crossroad, there’s a strange tagline: ARE YOU TOUGH ENOUGH?

Which begs the question: what does this mean? Who’s it talking to? Tough enough to do what? What does this have to do with a Crossroad, Destined or otherwise?

The obvious, easiest translation seems to be: are you, the viewer, tough enough? The implication being, I assume, to ask if we’re strong enough to stand with the Ultras against the Absolutians, fighting for the Land of Light.

But that seems incomplete; if that was the intent, I feel like there’d be something more specific they’re asking the viewers to do, a specific call to action (eg SUBSCRIBE TO FIGHT THE ABSOLUTIANS or VISIT OUR WEBSITE AND DO THIS THING TO ETC ETC). There’s the Narak Tower game but since they don’t tie that in as strongly in mainstream advertising, I don’t think that’s the intended meaning of the tagline.

I also assume it’s not saying “are you, the viewer, tough enough to sit through a movie-length series of ideas that Klenda will eventually do an overly long thoughts-thread about.” So I think it’s safe to assume it means someone within the story.

Because of the UGF format, there’s no one true “main character,” or even a main cast. It’s “everyone is here Except Agul” which means it’s hard to tell what characters are considered central. But let’s go over the possibilities. Who in The Destined Crossroad needs to be Tough Enough?

Grigio is the first character we meet who can be called a main-character. And like…in a sense she needs to be tough? They start a really interesting direction with her and Gina, and Grigio deciding throughout that she wants to be stronger—hence, “tougher.” Even Mebius mentions that her strength and powers could be the key to ending the Absolutian threat.

So is it talking to Grigio? I’m inclined to say no; Grigio starts that arc of growth and strength, yes, but we never really see her go anywhere with it. Her last scene ends with her saying “I need to get stronger!” And then we just. Never see her again. She vanishes an hour into the movie, and never again becomes relevant to the story.

So not Grigio. Maybe Zero?

He seems like a likely candidate; his arc in this is about getting back to his roots—on multiple levels. He circles back to his origins as a character and in his legacy, both as a leader and a student, and he has to use that in a new, tough way.

So does Zero need to be Tough Enough?

There’s a better argument for him than Grigio, but I’d argue no. His power and new ability is relevant to the finale in a way Grigio’s isn’t (read: he’s THERE AT ALL, thanks Tsuburaya), but is it Zero’s story? I don’t think he’s the one the story’s truly about. And I don’t think he’s the one the tagline applies to the most.

Ribut’s another main(ish) character, but he doesn’t do enough for me to really think it’s asking him to be tough. That and it feels contrary to his role in the story, as his “toughness” is in his stubborn belief in his friends and his faith in his ideals.

The only other likely candidate seems to be Regulos, the new kid on the block. The story establishes him as incredibly powerful, and master of THE strongest space-martial-art that we know of in the Ultra universe. Not to mention he has a personal grudge against the Absolutians, so it seems like it’s him who needs to be Tough Enough.

I’d like to posit that none of these people are the one the question is addressed to. Because it isn’t their story. They’re all part of that story, yes, but they’re not the reason the story’s happening.

None of the Ultras are so consistently pushing the story forward, so constantly active rather than reactive, so desperate to achieve their ends that they’ll burn down worlds to get it.

No one in The Destined Crossroad needs to be tougher than Absolute Tartarus.

Tartarus is, in the technical sense of the word, the protagonist of UGF3. He’s the one moving the story forward, connecting all the threads of the story, his role is active and reactive. This is his story; a story about his downfall.

UGF3 itself lets us watch in real-time as Tartarus slowly deteriorates under the pressure of his mission. He started UGF2 as a polished villain, never losing his cool, cold and calculated, who will carry out his task whatever the cost. And by the end…he’s desperate, screaming, self-destructive.

And in the end, he wasn’t tough enough.

Rather, he was tough in the wrong ways; he wasn’t tough as in resilient, but tough as in closed-off. He sacrificed everything for his ends: any sense of honor, morality, his own life, and even the lives of those entrusted to his care. The lives that, supposedly, he’d been fighting to save.

So TL;DR: the Ultras were Tough Enough, in the sense that they stayed strong in the way all true Ultras do. They held fast to their hope and their bonds, and persevered in compassion and empathy.

And Tartarus acted as a foil and antithesis to those ideals.

….so is that what Tsuburaya meant by that line? "Are You Tough Enough?"

Hi everyone, Celesti here! I'm not sure if i completely understand the twitter situation, but i made this tumblr 2 weeks ago just in case everything goes south.

It's gonna take a while for me to transfer my theory threads to here (although i only have a few to begin with). It will be a challenge to transfer threads that have more than 30 pics. As far as i know, desktop version allows a max. of 30 pics per post while mobile version allows a max. of 10 (pls correct me if i'm wrong).

I'm gonna try my best to start with threads that have less pics first. Because oh boy, the 2 Ei threads that i made before 2.5 have so many pics and they both took months to research and plan 😭

I'm really disappointed that things came to this, since the genshin loretwt community became one of my motivations to share what i love about genshin lore, and it inspired me to find my writing style. Although i won't be leaving twitter yet (i still have to wait and see), i welcome the features that tumblr has to offer. I'm completely new to the platform, but i admit that i actually like the blog post formatting and curating here, and i think that maybe tumblr will also help me learn more new ways to write my thoughts.

I'm still sad though, but no matter the outcome, i hope that those from the genshin lore twt community, other twt communities, artists, creators, etc. will be okay soon.

No matter where you are in the stars, the abyss, and every branch and root and fruit of irminsul, you, your memories about the community you've created/participated in, work, memes, and fun memories existed, and will continue to exist.

I hang upside down on the couch and listen to music waiting for 1-A to get here. I sit up as I hear talking outside. I stand up and quickly run into the kitchen. I heard the tea so, I pour a cup for myself. I walk toward my room avoiding the teens in the living room. "Aizawa who's she," I walk faster trying not to spill my tea.

"Tenshi, introduce yourself," I silently walk over, "I'm Tenshi I'm a transfer student."

I anxiously walk into my room. I silently shut my door trying not to disturb anyone around. I continue to fix my hero costume.

~The Next Day~

I fix my skirt and walk out, " This is Tenshi, be nice to her while I'm gone."

I nervously walk forward and introduce myself, "Hi, I'm Tenshi Bureikāfeisu."

I hear Izuku's voice in my head. I block out his attempt to enter my mind. "What's your quirk?" Izuku asks.

"It's called, 'Better Be Good' I can do anything I want as long as it benefits someone," I explain. "But if it doesn't benefit many people it is harder to use."

I keep up with what I hear from their thoughts. Derogatory thoughts, Derogatory thoughts, Derogatory thoughts, Derogatory thoughts, I shut off my power. Aizawa comes back. "Tenshi will be joining us, she already has her provisional license-" the alarm sounds. "Tenshi what is the problem?" he asks.

"LOV," I respond as my weapon arrives in my hand.

"Take 1-A to 1-B," he hands me his keys. "Guard them both with your life."

I usher them into 1-B's classroom. As their teacher shuts the door I cover the windows and shut off the lights. Locking the door I'm swarmed with questions. I bang against the wall shutting all of them up. "Quiet, if you are it'll throw off the trail of the LOV," My hair changes to black and my real identity shows through, "I'm not taking bullshit today sit down under the desks and be quiet."

I glare,"You really-"

I smack Bakugo's face stopping him from speaking. My hair turns red my eyes completely black. "Shut. Up. Katsui." I hear running feet.

I peek out the door. Shingaraki. I morph into Toga and run out. "Have you found the targets?" Shingaraki asks Dabi ready to torch the place.

"Not yet Shiggy! I'll keep looking in this section! But it looks like the pros are gathering that way!" I point the opposite direction of where they are and where they came from.

"Good," he and Dabi take off. I listen to their footsteps. Gone.

I morph back and hide, slipping back into the classroom. I re-lock the door and type in a key to the hidden keypad under it. "Move to the outside of the room," I command typing the other key codes. The ground flips to a holographic map of the campus. "You guys can fight," I hear gunshots and see Mr. Aizawa, tears stream down my face as I run out my hair my normal pale blue. I yell out catching Shingaraki off guard. He spins around and I angerly punch him in the jaw, "That wasn't your the plan!" I scream dropping to my knees to heal Aizawa.

"It just happened that way!" he rolls his eyes.

I stand up, "YOUR 'PLAN 'WAS TO GET THE FILES AND THE KIDS AND LEAVE!!"

I angerly stab him with my dagger. I glare at Toga and Dabi who take off with the other villians. I carry Aizawa and set him in the classroom and find where they keep the prisoners. "Izuku with-"

I pass out with a sharp pain to the head.

I wake up in recovery girl's office chained to a hospital bed. I sit back and sigh, "I told Aizawa you were no threat? But does he listen? Noooo!" Recovery girl complains walking over. "You've been out almost all week!"

"Aizawa thought I was a threat I presume?" I ask sitting on the edge to help her reach.

"Him and All Might both, completely KOed you. You're fine now, and nothing has permanent damage."

I stand up, "Thank you Chiyo, should I head to class then?" I ask.

"You'll pick up class tommorow, it's 4:52pm."

~Dorms~

I walk in and lock myself in my room texting Hatsume.

I walk up to the front with Aizawa and Bakugo. "We'll be doing a test, villians vs heros. Tenshi will lead the villians and Bakugo the heros, please move to the side you want to join."

Im pleased to see my vision was correct. Everyone else is on the hero's side except for Denki, Uraraka, and the invisible girl (can't remember her name TwT). I quickly guide then to the base in the fake city. I call Hatsume,

"You here yet?"

"Of course! And I brought students from class B!"

"Perfect! You are amazing Hatsume! I'll be down in a second!"

I hurry everyone upstairs and we talk costumes. I start creating costumes as Hatsume attached trackers and gave out pins. "What the hell is going on!?" Shinso exclaims.

I roll my eyes, "If I have to explain..."

moblit making sure the rookie knows what she’s getting into <3 a lot of the veterans check in with her to make sure she’s down and i think that’s pretty great. yeah they’re military but there’s a lot more personal freedom than you’d expect

some do it more than others XD another way levi put it was saying she wouldn’t survive even if she was a cat with nine lives ( he’s actually super critical of hange in this game, like a lot more than usual. i don’t recall him saying anything good about her, actually D: )

gang gang! the game changed eren’s spoon episode: instead of a spoon, his hand transforms reaching for a bandage you meant to hand him and he dropped. doesn’t really seem like a necessary change, but titans ran in and you had to protect him.

game levi has a lot less chill than usual lmao so demanding (this changes later tho)

getting to know jean: tease him about his mother XD (highkey bc no one else has one sakdjfnaksnf)

it’s really sweet how hange picks you out. it’s mostly bc your character’s eager to help her with experiments. in bel’s fanon, anyone can advocate for her as a plot point.

while getting to know levi, he leads a joint training exercise for a select few soldiers from all the regiments to teach teamwork. most were just looking to earn brownie points for a promotion, so he calls it off. bad form y’all~

um sir she’s already killed a fuckton we’re flattered but a bit condescended to askjfnaksfnaj (he ends up teaching you some new moves tho so fair bc we all know he’s clumsy with his words)
